Guest Reviews
- Andysee79 (10/5): Second stay here, still a great stay - This is our second stay here, the previous one was in 2019. In 2019, we came during winter but now we came during summer. The hotel looks the same, the room that we stayed in is also identical to the one we stayed in 2019. The room is well-kept and offers a view of the ski resort. No snow this time though.
The resort has a great onsen and the Ningle Terrace is nearby.
- Ruth (8/5): Great Location - Hotel right on the snow, location couldn't be better. Buffet breakfast had a wide selection and quality food. Ski hire and lift tickets available at hotel. Rooms older but clean and comfortable
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- 398MarcoS (8/5): Nice option - Fascinating and nice atmosphere; it reminded me of the good old times, back in the 70’s and 80’s, when I spent every single winter skiing in norther Italy, with my parents first, and then with my friends. And this is also the first set back, as the rooms are somewhat outdated and need some refurbishment, although there is not a singles speck of dust anywhere as Japanese people are very attentive when it comes to hygiene.
The location is astonishing, just on the sky slopes. All you have to do is just get your skis on and ride them straight out of the lobby!
Try and get some of the packages they offer, including dinner and skipass, as the hotel is somewhat out of the town and chances are that you are not really in the mood to venture out in the cold to eat your meal; if not included, the buffet can be somewhat expensive, in the range of over €40. The buffet itself is good enough but does not vary over the days; as a result, you might end up a little bored with food if you plan to stay for a long vacation.
The skis and the whole equipment can be rented and the service is very attentive and efficient. Do not bother to bring your own stuff unless you really hate Salomon (like I do), as it is the only type of equipment that they feature. I managed to get along with it … by the way. My calf will reprimand me for the next six months but I will survive.
Personnel is really friendly and helpful and although not everyone speaks English they will do their best to communicate as efficiently as possible.
There are no proper areas where you can relax and this is really a pity; the two rooms with he huge glass panes are only for restaurant use and the only other public area is occupied by an always almost empty bar. The lobby only features few benches and sofas but even if you manage to conquer one, your reading will be disturbed by the chilly wind gusts coming from the constantly opening and closing of the main door.
The SPA is dreadful … small and the water if full of chlorine. Necessary, I know, when you have some many people in such a small place but my sensitive skin detected immediately.
- 17vladislavm (6/5): Only Come If You Are A Skiier. - To get to this hotel you get the bus from Furano Station and make sure it goes to Furano Prince Hotel, as announcements will be made along the way where the bus is stopping.
When we arrived it looked interesting but a bit old. We went to reception to check in and we were assisted by a Trainee and they were quite helpful and did everything to assist us. They did not get upset when one of our group wanted to change to the New Prince Hotel and then they changed their mind to stay at the Prince Hotel instead. This staff member states professional all way and they even assisted us with the time of the shuttle bus to the New Prince Hotel.
At one stage we decided to ask the Bell Captain who was also a Trainee about the bus ,one of us asked and they said the shuttle bus to New Prince Hotel was at 6:30pm not 5:45pm. I was a bit surprised and decided to confirm with them the time and the Bell Captain Trainee became annoyed and raised their voice and told us to go to wait for the shuttle bus at the bus stop. We then went over to reception to confirm the time of the shuttle bus and this staff member came over with us to the Bell Captain and they found out that the Bell Captain did mot realise that there was an extra time table for the shuttle bus and they told us the wrong place to wait which should have been at the lobby neat the front.
The Bell Captain Trainee did not have good customer service as they raised their voice and got annoyed because a couple of us asked them the same question. They also advised us the wrong place to wait which showed either they did not have enough training and could not cope with being asked the same thing a few times.
The other interesting thing about this hotel is that they have real keys for your room instead of keycards. If you went out and thought the door locked itself you were wrong as had the put the key on to lock your door.
The room was quite compact so if you had luggage made it harder to move around. The one good thing about the room was the view from the window. The bathroom was small and the tub had a curtain to stop the water going on the floor and this showed the age of the hotel.
We only stayed one night and felt it was a bit too far from town so you had to take a bus or taxi. The other option was the take the shuttle bus to the New Prince Hotel and look around there.
This hotel is more for skiers so if you enjoy skiing then recommend this hotel but if you not a skier would not recommend this hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room is old and a bit dirty (#184)
The toilet is too small.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Crenations (8/5): Ski-in ski-out - Typical Japanese style hotel. Rooms are small but enough for ski season. There is a large ski rack / storage area at the first floor for all your gear, it is heated as well, almost every morning our gear was relatively dry as it was just central heating and not personal locker heating.
Breakfast was amazing ! Local product like milk and cheese were provided, one of the best honestly.
Staff were friendly and helpful as all japanese were, although they spoke minimal english, enough to get by.
Literally ski in and out, the hotel is right by the end of a slope but you'll have to ski and track just a little to the to the next chair lift.
Hotel is kinda far away from other shops, esp at night and in the cold... Took the local taxi for food at night.
They have a self service Landry mat as well, simple but enough
- Verified traveler (2/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (2/5): -
- UniqueSin (2/5): Very Disappointing - I was recommended to book Furano Prince Hotel by a local driver.
Never did I know it is a tourist trap.
I paid 33,335 yen (SGD$420) per room night and expected at least a 4-star standard.
I checked in to the hotel room at 4 pm, the room is so tiny, we could hardly find space to place our luggage. There wasn’t any wardrobe, we could only find hanging hooks on the wall. The bathroom didn’t have basic amenity such as conditioner. There is free internet only in the common lobby area but not in the rooms. The most disappointing thing was the room smelled stale and was warm, despite switching the fan speed to max at 18 degree celcius. By the time we returned after dinner at 9 pm, we realised the aircon wasn’t working. We informed the front desk requesting to change room, and was told to wait in our room. The staff came to our room and after ascertaining that the aircon was indeed not working, she came back with a fan and expecting us to accept the arrangement. After some negotiations with the front desk Manager, finally we got our room changed, but this is such a bad experience it really spoilt your holiday mood.
For anyone who is considering holiday in Furano, please think twice before booking Furano Prince Hotel, so you don’t make the same mistake as me.
Frustrated Guest
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- anitasia (10/5): New Prince Furano 2-6 Feb 2019 - Although is a bit costly but worth to spend more days especially for those skiers. Breakfast provided is good and satisfying. Very clean at all places, rooms, common areas, hot spring, lobby and etcs. There are outdoor and indoor hot spring and well maintained. There’s a souvenir shop opens till 10pm and the convenient store till midnight 12 everyday. Free parking is available.
- go1ng_place5 (8/5): Pretty little resort - It’s an older hotel comparing to New Furano Prince. Our room was on the top floor providing a wonderful view. Room is clean with comfortable beds. Our booking included daily buffet breakfast, we had lunch at Kitanomine ski terminal, and buffet dinner (around 4000yen) in the hotel. The hotel staffs are helpful and can able to communicate in English. WiFi is only available in hotel lobby and reception is weak but I guess that’s expected in the mountain.
- Chiung Ting (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (4/5): -
- 806thierryh (2/5): Stay away from this place - It’s dirty. Infested with bugs. Noisy as hell and the room was all worn out. Probably 20+ years old. It’s nothing even remotely close as relaxing. And it’s insanely expensive for what you get. Stay away from that place.
- Wen Ta (4/5): Wouldn't stay again - No wifi in rooms and no elevator up three stairs! The buffet dinner has poor selections and most dishes were empty without timely refills!
- peunga2017 (4/5): Not worth for money - I stay one night here in second floor. There is no elevator. You need to walk up with ur stuff by yourself. The room size is ok but too old. Reception told me that the restaurant will close at 9.30 but when i arrive restaurant at 9.10. They said it is already close. So i missed my breakfast (which i already paid) Not recommend. There r over charge you for the price
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- bbyma (6/5): Expensive, crowded but nice environs - Expensive but the only five star hotel at furano. The ground facilities are nice and parking was convenient. The rooms were terrible small and the three of us had practically no room to move about with our suitcases inside. Breakfast was awfully crowded but the salmon roe servings were generous. Front desk staff was variable in terms of helpfulness, I was being extra courteous and used google translate but that did not help. This lady at the concierge was probably stressed out at work and after I had waited patiently for a while for advice and help with restaurant booking, I was met with a flat ‘no’ at the end. Luckily I approached other staff and they were fine.
- airliehughes (2/5): Horrible and difficultwould not recommend - My partner and I checked In went up to our smoke filled second floor yuk even though our room was non smoking then I went to organise a first timers lesson snow boarding and hire a board and a helmet mission impossible.... limited English spoken in the hire shop then I’m put on the phone to MEG from furano snow school which is located at the new furano prince hotel who assured me that I was booked in for the 1:10pm group snowboarding lesson great so I turn up with my board and equipment and am told nope you are booked into the ski group lesson and asked if this is ok but I’m standing there holding a snowboard... I am then told not many ppl snowboard at furano even thought there are snowboarders everywhere and that I will need to book a private lesson for snow boarding and will need to wait a few hours to see if they can get an instructor so I wait three hours and $170 later I’m out on the hill with a Japanese man who is a ski instructor and speaks no English!!!!!! Amazing work guys not!!! Biggest waste of time and money he was reading from a piece of paper how to teach snow boarding such a joke anyways I fell and rolled my ankle about an hour in to the two hour lesson and then I told him I’m done it was so hard to understand him but I wanted to persevere... the hotel staff were rude pretty much no English everything to organise was difficult and these big groups of Japanese men would take over the whole area in the lobby or dining room with no regard for noise or other people all that you pay for is the fact that the resort is ski in ski out nothing else
- Stephen (10/5): Happy happy stay - Excellent value and great location
- W9171FFmichellec (8/5): Base of Operations for Ski Getaway - Very decent hotel that has the awesome feature of being one of 2 major hotels that have back door slope access to the Furano/Kitanomine slopes. Check-in was fast because it was Tuesday afternoon. There was a big group of Japanese students checked in on Thursday, yes lots of kids are skiing mid-week instead of going to conventional school. Rooms and lobby are dated, but the room had everything that we needed except moisturizer(but the shop downstairs had it) The view from the breakfast room is amazing. The breakfast seemed good on the first day, but on the second day it seemed less appealing, even though it was all the same. Can buy lift ticket at front desk. Rental shop has Salomon ski gear, which was amazing since I've had difficult skiing experiences in Japan due to rental gear made to smaller calf standards. A locker on first floor for gear corresponds to one's room number. Hotel can also ship bulky snowboard ski bags to other parts of Japan if needed, for the reasonable cost of ¥1800, AND you pick the time of delivery. The shipping service showed up to take my husband's snowboard before our resort liner bus for Sapporo showed up. When checkin staff mentions that you need to make a reservation for dinner (¥3300) at the restaurant on premises, seriously consider it because there are no other cheaper easy dinner options. 50 minute walk or 12 minute taxi ride from Furano town. While the New Furano Prince seems like an eating alternative, the food options get more expensive (we spent ¥4800/person on their buffet) There are lots of ways to get out (with no car) when the hotel itself and skiing are not appealing: 1) pay municipal bus which goes as far as the Asahikawa airport 2)pay coach bus which will go into town 3)free shuttle that runs between the 2 prince hotels 4) taxis that front desk can summon. Ningle Terrace at New Furano prince was worth visiting even if we didn't buy anything.
- Tony (4/5): Over price hotel and poor onsen - Room is old and little facilities but charged 5 stars hotel price. Hotel need redecoration. Wouldn't come again.
- Leslie (8/5): Good Stay - Nice Place. Service staff was excellent. Arrived at 10am in the morning, expecting to check in only in the afternoon, but reception staff allowed us to check in earlier as they had available rooms.
Room is clean, but slightly old. Nevertherless, service was very good.
- pancakemarmalade (8/5): Good - In terms of location, this place isn't very convenient unless you are driving.
We were a group of 3 without a car, and had to take a taxi to the station everytime we wanted to go out. It was about 2000+yen each way.
Staff was however, very courteous and friendly and always helped us to call a taxi if we needed one.
This is the older version of the Shin Furano Prince Hotel, and the rooms do look like they need some maintenance.
Hot water wouldn't flow properly.. and I scalded myself on the tap as hot water suddenly came out even though I turned on the cold water tap.
Breakfast was good though, a very wide spread complete with Furano milk and pudding.
Also, free wifi was only available in the lobby... that is definitely a minus point.
- Wong (8/5): Beautiful place - A nice hotel. Great for family. Room is a bit small though.
- CHOW (8/5): Hotel view good view and location. - S nice. Good view. But no hot spring. Room is clean and large. Breakfast is good quality. You can play fireworks. Yeah!
- CheukLun Alex (6/5): - Room is small, toilet is extremely small, no lift for the 2nd floor, not suitable for okdies
- phaiksimh (8/5): Up in the mountain - Good place for relaxation after a long drive from Hakodate, Front office staff are polite and friendly,Hotel is located on the mountain with public bath, room is clean Breakfast is good both Japanese and western. So much of greenery and so peaceful.Definitely a great place to stay.
- peter tsai (6/5): Location is good - Restaurant service very good, room is comfortable but a bit old
- Vincent_HKC (8/5): Friendly staff - I would like to say thank you to the friendly staff here. Especially the trainee 增田 san in the bell captain desk. She is very helpful to get our family 2 very good dinner venue with reasonable price. Though our first choice restaurants were not available, she kept calling other restaurants until another good venue were booked. We would like to say thank you to her.
- kew (6/5): Hotel is tired and outdated. - Super dated hotel and rooms are small. Hotel is I neeed of renovation. Staff are friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was nice with a good variety.
- Yuet Ming Milly (8/5): overall rating 6 out of 10 - convenient location. hotel room a bit run down. staff very helpful. excellent breakfast. would give a higher rating if wifi is available in room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quiet environment away from main road. - Hotel a bit old and need renovation. Mattresses and pillows are too soft to our liking. Checking was smooth and fast. Service were also good. Location is not convenient if you don't drive. It is a ski resort during winter. Therefore its location is away from the city centre.
- RobynF65 (8/5): Feb ski trip - The Prince Hotel is comfortable and the best ski in/ski out we have ever had. Staff were very polite and helpful but limited English. Breakfast at the hotel was good but not much variety unless you wanted to be adventurous with asian options.
If travelling with more than 4 people, remember to book restaurants in advance as they are small and often run out of food.
- Lizzie87h (10/5): Great Hotel - We had a fantastic stay at this hotel for 7 nights in feb. Rooms are small but that's what you expect in Japan compared to western countries. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean. Great relaxing place to come back to after a day skiing.
The lockers are located right near the ski out area which is great. It makes it so much easier with ski gear. Breakfast was fantastic and the buffet was pretty good too. The only downsides are the wifi is only available in the lobby and the bathrooms are very small (but so far every hotel in Japan has had a tiny bathroom). Definitely recommend this place.
- HeathS273 (2/5): Convenient, charm but not the best. - I want to start off by saying that this hotel has some real charm to it. Almost like the grand Budapest hotel feeling to it. It really sets the mood and we loved that. I want to state that you have ski rentals inside of the hotel along with Storage. We got a package deal for 2 nights and 1 day lift ticket for 2 people for a really good price also. We also had a rental car ordered and dropped off at the hotel for us for a day use. This was very nice and helpful. So now let's get to the bad stuff.
The hotel is a bit out dated, you can see this in the bathrooms(old school plunger style flush). The bath rooms are so small, it was easier to go to the public bath to get ready in the morning. This also go for using the restroom.
We had a non smoking room but it's on the same floor as the smoking rooms. So when ever you open your door, smoke comes into your room... so ya, that sucks. Also, the rooms smell like old linen/mold. Could see the black patches on the 1980 wallpaper.
The food is right below average for chain hotels. Breakfast: The eggs are powered and watery, the the over selection is ok. They say "European" but its more Asian then anything. Dinner: make a dinner reservation but you can go early and still get a table. The best seats are near the window but they tend not to give them out to 2 or less people. Food was ok.
The ski lifts are good. They have a weird schedule for when lifts are running. We checked in at 2 and got on the slopes at 3 but the transfer lift that lets you go to the other side was shutting down at 3:45. Just little things like that. Runs are great and the snow is dry and powder. Enjoyed that the most.
Over all the hotel is 80% right. It's the little things that are killing this place. It has the charm and the feeling. Just need to get the basic stuff back to where it should be. If you can do it, go to the new price or something else.
- Ash (6/5): Great ski in & out location - Food (breakfast & dinner) is excellent but would be better without dinner so can enjoy the many excellent Japanese restaurants that Furano offers.
- cheeweis (6/5): A bit old but well maintained - There is 2 building, 1 with lift, another without. So, make sure to ask before booking ad you will need to climb a few staircase and it is inconvenience for oldest.
The staff is friendly and helpful.
Facilities such as tennis court and a public bathroom where you can soak yourself in a hot water.
Room is spacious for 2 pax but not for 3 pax. Bathroom is very small and hard to climb into bathtub as it is quite high.
Located slightly up to hill, so, it is windy and have a nice view. It is also near to ski ropeway which located at New Furano Prince Hotel (I think both is the same company) but is at different location (about 5-10min drive). Make sure before you book ya.
- Justin (6/5): Conventional and the bath tub is too small - Quiet yet the bath tub is too small.
- Five (6/5): Location are fine - Hotel facilities are dated, standard size Japanese rooms. Air con is not good enough during summer time. Hope their staff could introduce the facilities in the hotels.
- Alvin (6/5): not worth for this price - no wifi in room; no lift; washroom is small
- Mellisa (8/5): Great stay! - The view from the car park, which is just a stone's throw away from the hotel entrance, is breathtaking!
Furnace Delice is just around the corner and if you drive, it's pretty convenient to go to the town city as well as the famous Kumagera Restaurant!
