Guest Reviews
- Neale (10/5): - City centre, staff were very welcoming, dining area on top floor with views over the city, very spacious rooms
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice staff. Rooms ok and reasonably sized. Noisy in the more expensive rooms overlooking the street in front. A convenience store afew hundred yards away is nice. Some restaurants nearby. Ok breakfast. Little tourist support, but they did arrange for airport pickup. Will stay again.
- MissionDoc (8/5): - I like the ethnic feel. It felt like a real Burmese hotel down to the puppet show at dinner. The decorations were a nice touch. All the rooms looked authentic and as if they were straight out the 15th century. The only thing I didn’t like was no availability of late check out. Most hotels I stay at will least give you till two or three but there’s no budging from the staff on this one. So I basically just packed up my bags and left at 9 o’clock in the morning And explored Mandalay all day and then went to the airport in dire need of a shower.
I would definitely recommend this hotel. And if you want to explore Mandalay all day and then leave I would just rent the room for another night if you have the financial ability to do so.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice and friendly staff. Good location. Free snacks and cocktails between certain hours.
- Alison (6/5): Aveage - People were very nice, but the room was small with a large pillar near the right side of bed, which made moving around challenging. Restaurant staff very nice, but the food was not.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Awful value for money - they charge as though they were a 5* property but they are actually rubbish. rooms may look big but they are not spacious if you know what I mean. Impossible to work on the desk provided, impossible to sip a cup of tea on the coffee table provided, impossible to open up the luggage well as there is a pillar right in the middle of the room. the bathroom is crap also. staff severely undertrained although quite friendly, but that's common in Myanmar. English spoken quite poorly. Noise 24/7 as the property faces 2 big roads.
Breakfast was pathetic.
For the money they charge I am surprised they are so highly rated. Incredible really.
- Thierry (10/5): - Super hôtel très bon rapport qualité prix
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff were lovely and helpful. Hotel clean, and food nice with a good selection for the size of the hotel. Nice rooftop bar and restaurant. Ms Aye and Mr Arar at reception were happy to help and restaurant staff were lovely as well. Bed was very hard and a lot of light from the street and outside lights made it difficult to sleep but apart from that, great little hotel in the city centre.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The location is excellent. The hotel is clean. The breakfast is okay. The staff are not very keen to help. Waiting is expected
- Overstayer (2/5): - Unbearably rude, we were held at airport due to visa issue we contacted the hotel prior to ask to move date or hold for credit until we resolved they responded to only add additional fees for no-show. Not a good way of doing business when we offered to leave excellent review to move our reservation back one day. Buy insurance and also not these people are very rude Online and on the phone. the country in general is extremely greedy and a tourist trap across the board. Very upset how they handled this
- Marla (10/5): - Good location closed to restaurants. Excellent staff and good breakfast !!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good location, nice staff. Room was riddled with mosquitos and had a terrible smell. The room was dark even with curtain open . We had a room that was looking out to a wall. Very dark and depressing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely hotel in Mandalay! Love the design of the rooms and the breakfast area is on the 6th floor which gives a view of the city. Breakfast was delicious and staff was friendly! Highly recommended!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff are fantastic and very helpful. Location very good. The breakfast is ok. Beds comfortable.
- Jane (8/5): - Hotel was fine. Near attractions and 45 mins from airport. Hotel offers airport pick up and dropoff for fee. Staff are very good. Great value for the time we were there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - My sister and I stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Mandalay and it's located near several restaurants. The staff is very welcoming and help as much as they can. Thank you! Eveline
- John (8/5): - Nice property and staff. They do try to go out of the way to help you. If it’s booking buses, tours and airports transfers. Clean hotel, roof top restaurant with good views of the city, and central location. You cannot go wrong if you pick this hotel.
- Eric (10/5): Mandalay - As soon as you enter the hotel lobby, you will notice unique artifacts decorating the hotel, including the large, bronze statue (of three noblemen). Check the beautiful ceilings here and in the 6th (?) floor restaurant where you get panoramic views of Mandalay. Staff were very helpful throughout, except, the breakfast waitress seemed to spend too much time out of sight, and I never got a second cup of coffee. Evening crew at restaurant were great Enjoyed their happy hour drinks. Their puppets for sale are better and cheaper than those available at the airport. Overall, a comfortable place to relax, sleep and eat.
- Kelly (10/5): Wonderful Hotel Run by Wonderful People - I cannot begin to express how wonderful this place is. The staff are kind, professional, and attentive. The room and shower were immaculate. They offer complimentary afternoon tea with snacks and an evening happy hour, both of which were a delight. I would most definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Exceptional! - The service and the staff in Bagan King was amazing and truly exceeded our expectation. On the last day of our stay we checked out early and left our luggage at the hotel then went off for more sightseeing in Mandalay. By 6pm we got back to the hotel and found ourselves in sweat and dust. Then we tried to request if by any chance we can take a quick shower before our 8-hour overnight bus journey. Maw Si, the reception lady, immediately made a few calls and arranged a vacant room for us to take a shower which we really appreciated. During the time we waited in the hotel lobby before we started our way to the bus station, she was so attentive that she noticed our bottle of water was almost finished and kindly offered us two new bottles for free. She did make our experience with the hotel perfect.
The hotel also offered free snack time and happy hour at certain hours. The staff at the restaurant was so nice to us even we didnt spend any money there.
Will definitely come back to this hotel if I visit Mandalay again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay in Mandalay - We had a pleasant stay at Bagan King. The staff are all gracious and hospitable. The rooms are clean and fairly spacious. The hotel is located in a central location with nearby eateries and a short ride to the attractions.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very helpful staff who spoke excellent English
Enjoyed a free puppet show and traditional music.
Good central location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Overall quite ok, friendliness, cleanliness & food excellent.
- BMK (10/5): - Central situated, nice restaurant, nice and spacious rom,
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very helpful and pleasant staff. Good food and service in the rooftop restaurant. Rooms are pleasantly decorated in local style and well equipped. Hotel provided box breakfast for early flight. Only weakness is too firm bed common to Myanmar hotels. Nevertheless I would not hesitate to stay here again.
- Arielle (10/5): A lovely hotel near Royal Mandalay sites - This hotel is convenient to Royal Mandalay sites and excellent restaurants. Inside the hotel, the staff is friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The hotel offers many extras like snacks, drinks and entertainment at no charge. The rooms are attractive, clean, comfortable and well maintained. I definitely recommend staying here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Highly recommended! - Great hotel. Clean and comfortable rooms, attentive and friendly service, good breakfast, beautiful rooftop restaurant. 5 min walk to one of the best burmese restaurants in town (Minglabar restaurant). Short tuktuk/taxi ride to all tourist sights. This hotel has everything one needs for a convenient stay in Mandalay. Would stay here again. Highly recommended!
- Anand (8/5): Good hotel. - Good hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely hotel decor, good location , staff helpful
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel with good atmosphere - The deluxe room was big and spacious; but only one room is with the bathtub, though i booked deluxe rooms for all the the price are the same.
The breakfast was pretty decent.
The staff were helpful and attentive to our needs.
- John (10/5): - Nice resort and great location. Excellent staff. They’re renovating some rooms which need it. I enjoyed the garden like atmosphere. My only issue was the the 10 hours of music and someone talking into a PA at the highest level possible until 10pm. Totally sucked to have to listen to that most of the day and into the night. Ruined my experience on May 29th 2018.
- I-Chun (10/5): Wonderful hotel & great service. - Wonderful service/ attentive staff, good location and spacious rooms. Nice breakfast and overall a wonderful hotel. Will be back.
- Patrick (10/5): Nice hotel! - Great clean hotel.. had a black out which I think is common for area but had power restored in few minutes from generator.
Has a unique theme to it almost like a temple. Much nicer than the standard box hotel
- Arthur (8/5): Nice reasonably priced hotel. - Good value when considering level of service and free breakfast and evening drinks.
- Bill (8/5): Nice hotel in Bagan - It was a nice stay and I enjoyed the location close to town and easy access to restaurants and museums. Nice staff and hotel is clean
- karen (8/5): Nice Hotel in the Bagan style - We only stayed 1 night in this hotel but found it to be comfortable and clean. The 6th floor resturant had great views out over the city and we were lucky to be there on the full blood moon night.
- Frank (10/5): Nice stylish hotel in town great location - Nice hotel in traditional Myanmar style in great location to attractions and restaurants. Small But very functional and stylish rooms and rooftop restaurant with good breakfast. Very helpful and knowledgable staff.
- Allan (10/5): Great hotel with a good location - We stayed for 3 nights and the staff were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts up on the rooftop restaurant had an excellent range for all tastes. The rooms were very comfortable and quite. Launching out for a days sightseeing was very easy from this location.
- paul b. (8/5): Very good experience - A bit noisy area but very good service and restaurant
- Fiona (8/5): Beautiful hotel - Hotel and staff were fantastic. Nice extra touches like afternoon snacks and free cocktails. Also they already anticipated our v early AM departure and had booked packed breakfasts. Loved the telescope in the bar directed at Mandalay Hill and the sheet with useful info on arrival (rather than trawling travel through a big folder). Staff were so friendly and helpful. Downside ..being downtown the noise of traffic was incessant.(triple glazing could help?). They need more hooks in the bathroom. Small complaint but easily rectified. Beautiful hotel.
- Tim (10/5): Great hotel - Beautiful hotel and rooms, lovely staff, highly recommended!
- Gustavo (10/5): Great service - This hotel has one of the best guest service I have ever experienced. Not the cold heartless service one get used at 5 stars, but a truthful team wanting to resolve your needs. In a crazy city where no one seems to care, this is an oasis.
- John (8/5): September vacation - Staff was great and helpful. They helped us set up excursions even at the last second. The rooms were nice and clean. The restaurant had good food and service. I like the dacour as it made you feel like you were in Mandalay.
- Rene (8/5): Nice boutique hotel with old Myanmar style decor. - Breakfast was fantastic. Cooked when you order... the food was hot and tasty
- Nabil (10/5): Amazing Hotel - Once we arrive we were welcoming by everyone with their charming smile .
The resturants was also great they haf an exceptional chief who is really very proffesional plus the staff and the resturant manager .
In fact we enjoyef our stay alot and we do recommend it to everyone
- Anna (10/5): - Loved this hotel! Super nice room. Great breakfast. 2 complimentary cocktails in the evening. Staff helped to organize city tour.
- Diane (8/5): - Nice hotel offering a more authentic experience than your standard business hotel.
- Emily (8/5): Good hotel with nice decor - This hotel had great decor and atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and helpful. And the restaurant had good food. I ended up hiring a driver through the hotel to go around to the different sites as not a lot was within walking distance and there really wasn't public transport. However, the driver was reasonable price and a nice option as it was very hot when I visited. You might be able to find a better location but given how spread out everything is in mandalay probably not.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pleasent stay at Bagan King - Hotel room was very comfortable with beautiful decor. Staff were very friendly. Food was tasty! 5 mins walk from Mandalay Palace wall. Very happy we stayed here.
- luke (10/5): would stay again for sure - This was a great little hotel right in the centre of Mandalay. The restaurant had great food with Myanmar, Thai, Chinese and western dishes on offer. We are there 3 tim s and we're very happy with everything we ordered and the chef made sure our specific dietary requests were catered for.
The rooms are really nice with comfortable beds, great AC and nice bathrooms.
The only down side is that you can hear any noise in the corridors and when other rooms are being opened as the door locks have a loud chime when opened. But this really is only being super picky and never interrupted our sleep.
The staff are soooo friendly and helpful as well
- Verified traveler (8/5): - friendly staff, rather disappointing dinner and breakfast, amazing decor, thin walls, spacious rooms, stable wifi
- bank (10/5): Nice room and location - Nice hotel staffs . They were very kind and smile all the time.
- Victor (10/5): Great stay - Great location, service and atmosphere.
- Igor (10/5): Fair enough! - Mandalay is a busy city and this hotel is a good possibility to find silence and tranquility in the middle of the city.
- Nora (10/5): a pleasant hotel - Hotel provides free drink in the afternoon, some puppet shows in the evening, while the 6th restaurant has good view of mandalay.
Room size is a little bit small. Toilet and shower place is not separated, but acceptable.
Overall rating is very good.
- Paul (10/5): Good location - Very good hotel very warm welcome and lovely staff. Appreciated the towel and drink at check in. Room good but cramped and the wash basin neede to be smaller like the shower in order not to get personal items wet
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice Hotel in Mandalay - Nice hotel, friendly staff. Free puppet and traditional music show with free cocktail for hotel guess. There are nice local restaurant nearby, (about 5 mins walk across the road with a yellow signboard). Convenience store (abc and G&G) are near by for the cheap local Myanmar beer. Shower is a bit interesting, which it is different not to make the whole toilet wet. Anyway, we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a good experience at the hotel, the staff was very helpful and always with a smile.
AS we were often picked up for sightseeing it seemed not too far from any sights, so a good
location
- Sebastian (10/5): Nice hotel - Good location, friendly staff, comfortable room. Very good restaurant located on top of the building.
- David (10/5): Great service and location - Really really good
- Naomi (8/5): Newer hotel with great amenities
- Great customer service. They have snacks in the dining area for 2 hours every day and a Happy hour every day. Room was comfortable. Since it is only 2 years old, there plenty of outlets. Food is good in the restaurant.
- Nicole (10/5): Beautiful hotel with quirks - Very nice property, great service, excellent restaurant. Nice room.
The only negative thing was the design of the bathroom. The shower was essentially above the toilet so that the toilet became soaked when showering. It was probably a space issue, but very odd, uncomfortable design making it impossible to shower without the toilet getting drenched. It was a base room on the bottom floor, which was the only one available when booking, so maybe higher floors or the better rooms have more well-designed bathrooms.
It wasn't a huge deal and did not take away from the experience of this lovely, pretty hotel. We especially liked the view from the top restaurant at breakfast when they open the windows. Great service, very helpful and attentive staff.
- Satish (10/5): Excellent hotel - Fantastic hotel. Good location. Clean and looks just like the photos. Need to taxi to attractions from all Mandalay hotels. Highly recommend this hotel for price and cleanliness.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good Value - Bagan King is a serviceable hotel. It's comfortable enough and you can tell they're trying hard to be a boutique hotel. There were just a few things that needed some tweaking (the bathroom tiles were faux brick hence I imagine they were hard to clean and I a few stray hairs left over when we walked in.) But service-wise, they were great. Everyone in the hotel was pleasing and eager for you to have a good time. Overall, this is probably your best choice in Mandalay.
- Colin (10/5): Good location, quiet. Great Service - Could not ask for more in a city hotel. Lovely style and feeling. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were fine. They would cook great omelet to order. Happy to recommend to anyone. Delighted to have picked Bagan King!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice boutique hotel in Mandalay - The hotel is well designed and is in good location not far from Mandalay palace. Hotel staff are very helpful and friendly. The room is clean and well decorated. Buffet line breakfast was good with selection of international and local food. Hotel offered 1 free drink at its roof top restaurant once. Overall a good stay at Bagan King hotel.
- Timothy (10/5): - Best staff in all of Mandalay
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pretty nice hotel - Nice hotel, good restaurant. Internet was horrible, but I guess that's to be expected.
- SHASHIKANT (8/5): Value for Money - We were there for one night & had a comfortable stay Nice of them to have a get together on the roof top bat with one free cocktail & snacks. Great to meet other guests.
- Hiromi (10/5): Good choice - Enjoyed the happy hour drinks with the puppet show and the breakfast.
Arranging a day trip was easy and smooth.
- Laura (10/5): Lovely hotel - This hotel is a gem - wonderful staff, beautiful rooms, and working WiFi. Will definitely stay here again.
- Thea (8/5): Good hotel - be careful of money making!! - Lovely looking hotel. Just like in the photos. But that the price you expect that! It is not in downtown Mandaly - more Royal Mandalay. Which means if you any to eat near the hotel or try a bar you are out of luck. I ate before I came back to the hotel but one night I was hungry by 9pm so ordered a ridiculously privy omelette which didn't come with any bread. When I asked for it they said I had to pay extra!! And then didn't bring any jam like they said. Also was entirely fleeced by the driver service they offer. All I did was ask for recommendations for what to do in 1 and 1/2 days in Mandalay and then they told me I had arrived late and would need to get going if I wanted to see everything they recommended and they would call their driver in. The next thing I know I have him for 1 and 1/2 days and it cost me $75. I later learn the exact same driver and car would have been $10 - $15 if I found them in the street and the drivers receive the same as the hotel pockets all the profit from this. Do not use the hotel driver service. There are drivers on the corner outside your hotel who will offer you their services for much less!
- jan (8/5): Nice rooms and great breakfast. - try to get a room without a pillar( which will block your comfort) Some rooms have a pillar in the room which is very awkward and uncomfortable.
The windows are locked and cannot be opened, so a little claustrophobic.
They have a great breakfast and wifi is ok. The restaurant serves great food for reasonable prices. This is a non smoking hotel, so if you are a smoker its quiet uncomfortable.
