Guest Reviews
- Christopher (8/5): Beautiful location, helpful staff, lovely pub. Wider range of breakfast options would be useful. - Excellent staff - very welcoming, hardworking and helpful. Unexpectedly limited breakfast options. Only cooked breakfasts available - which we don't usually have when on a cycling tour as too heavy. No cereals, porridge, yoghurt, toast and marmalade/jam or continental breakfast available.
Cooked options were imaginative, varied and well presented so no problem if this is what you like.
- Mark (9/5): - Location. Staff. Food was amazing. No live TV.
- paul (10/5): Beautiful area good food and facilities very friendly and helpful staff will definitely visit again - Setting locality Nothing
- Louise (9/5): Lovely location. Delicious food. - Lovely food selection. Great real ales. Lovely location. No comfortable seating area just dining tables. It might have been nice to sit, read and have a nightcap/ drink after our meal. But don’t get me wrong as this wasn’t an issue as we went to bedroom early and watched TV.
Barking dog on site from 7am discouraged a lay in.
- Judith (9/5): A lovely experience. Very doggy friendly and we would stay here again. - Friendly, quirky and comfortable. Quite expensive
- Lydia (10/5): A little gem, would definitely recommend - Location was beautiful, a true get away place to relax and unwind. Walks starting at your door step or just sit with a drink in the garden and listen to nature. Only 6 miles to Ashbourne so not far to go for a shopping trip or a coffee Nothing we didn’t like but WiFi and tv a bit hit and miss but we were ok with it
- richard (8/5): A pleasant stay in lovely surroundings. - The food was good, and the pub is very popular with diners. The evening menu was very different and may not be to everyone’s taste. Staff were great and every dogs needs were catered for. The chairs in the restaurant were very uncomfortable and everything is set for food so not really the place to sit and relax with a drink inside.
- Alexandra (8/5): - The staff and the standard of food in the restaurant are what really make this lovely bed and breakfast. We would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in this beautiful corner of the world.
- Helen (10/5): A lovely place to stay with cosy rooms and super friendly staff , great location close to Dovedake yet away from the cro - A wonderful pub in a lovely location , the staff were all super helpful and friendly , room was cosy yet spacious and well heated , great shower room too .,
Dinner in the restaurant was excellent as was breakfast the next day .
Loved the view across fields with lambs frolicking .
Highly recommended accommodation . Can’t think of anything

- John (5/5): Average stay but overpriced for the standard, - Very good breakfast. Big car park. Room was quite small and the bathroom. Washbasin needed attention, loose tap and plug.
- Philip (8/5): - Location was perfect, view from room lovely
Food was excellent
Room was clean Not much hot water in the evening for a shower to freshen up. They did put the water heater on but it took quite a while. Plenty of hot water in the morning though
- Rebecca (9/5): Brilliant, friendly staff, perfect for an overnight - Very cute little inn. Well appointed with everything that we needed for an overnight stay
- Ian (6/5): Was fine, but not really what we were looking for - Nice location and friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Clean and warm room. Comfortable bed. Was looking for a comfortable country pub stay, but this is really just a restaurant with rooms. Evening meal took a LONG time to arrive, and was underwhelming. Same for breakfast.
- Colin (10/5): Great family Stay for Alton Towers - Food was amazing, view was lovely over fields with lambs and sheep. Family room was really good our 2 boys had their own room. Accomodation and food was on the more expensive side but we loved it and would defo recommend. The food was exceptional.
- Sarah (7/5): Great location - The area is great 😊 lovely view from our room & good value food The room does need some updating and sorting out minor maintenance issues
- Michelle (9/5): -

- rachel (9/5): Great value and perfect for our party. Food? Out of this world. Staff welcoming and fun! - Amazing food, friendly and accommodating staff, comfortable rooms. Bathroom needed a little attention, as did common areas but ok.
- Kirstie (8/5): - Beautiful location across from Dovedale, bed very comfortable. Breakfast very tasty.
- brett (10/5): Great place with cute rooms and good food -
- Martin (6/5): OK apart from the food - Quiet location Good Ale Tapas night food was not to our liking
- HELEN (8/5): Lovely country pub. - Staff are lovely and the pub has a really country feel to it. Great location for the bike trails. Gorgeous view from our window. Pub very quiet after 11pm which meant a good night sleep. Breakfast wasn’t great.
- Clare (9/5): Fantastic food and location. - The breakfast menu was excellent and very varied for cooked food. The meal in the pub was outstanding for dinner. The location was beautiful, and perfect to be able to walk to Dove Dale.
- Dawn (7/5): - The breakfast was fabulous with quality produce Bedding a bit dated, need some white linen
- Jo (10/5): Very relaxing and we will be back - Fantastic service , such a beautiful room located on a relaxing area
- Jacqueline (4/5): Poor communication.poor customer service and an apathetic approach. - The Okeover Arms is set in stunning surroundings with a fantastic view from the room we stayed in.A beautiful part of the country which was very tranquil during our stay. Booked as a treat for my wifes birthday so we could eat(made a separate restaurant booking) and have a few drinks without driving.
Contacted before our arrival to say the restaurant wouldnt be open.
Decided to keep the booking and go out for a meal and return for a couple of drinks.
Unfortunately on arrival it was plain to see the pub is going through some sort of renovation and the bar wasnt open.
We were then informed that there wasnt any breakfast and if we wanted some we could travel to Ashbourne.Despite on the booking stating it is included which at time of writing this it still states now.
Finally we were told there wouldnt be any reduction in the room rate for no breakfast as it costs next to nothing to make.
As per our review we were only contacted to advise that the restaurant was closed, nothing about the pub, breakfast or renovations. Nobody "insisted on coming" we could have done much better for our money and had a breakfast, if advised of the full picture we would have reviewed our options. The management response is a shocking fabrication.

- Alice (10/5): Great friendly team, comfortable stay, excellent value for money. - Amazing breakfast - we couldn't believe it was all included! Really friendly staff, very helpfully let us dump our bags in before check in given the time of our event. N/A
- Su (10/5): -
- Mandy (10/5): Had a lovely time and our favourite place to stay - Love the location and the pub, great food and friendly staff, a very nice place to stay
- david (9/5): A real findxin the peaks - great service, friendly staff great food and wine, Angela made our stay memorable, the chicken on the bone curry was the best restaurantt curry i have had in a long long time nothing it was great
- Huw (10/5): Excellent location.Very cosy room and food was very tasty. Will definitely be coming again - Was very clean and cosy Nothing
- Anthony (10/5): Great stay - Second stay here.Very welcoming staff.Room comfortable and quiet.Good breakfast and had a great curry in the restaurant.Particular shout out to Angela who spoilt our dog with treats.
- Jenny (10/5): Great location, amazing food, great staff! - Very clean and tastefully decorated, real Christmas feel to it which added to the experience as we were visiting Xmas markets etc. The food was brilliant, really good quality and quantity. Rooms were really nicely done and it was lovely to wake up to beautiful views. Staff was really friendly and so keen to share information and be as helpful as possible. We definitely feel like our weekend wouldn't have been near as perfect if we hadn't stayed here. We are already planning our next visit!
- PETE (10/5): Clean friendly, lovely surroundings & dog friendly - The rooms was just right,we spent one night at the okeover. Lots of walks around the area, main reason for stopover. They were dog friendly which was excellent.the facilities in the room were perfect.the whole place was very clean with friendly helpful staff.the food was excellent. We will definitely be stopping there again The shower cubical was a little bit of a squeeze.
- Wendy (10/5): A lovely stay in a characterful pub!! Perfect weekend - Warm and friendly staff
Very dog friendly
Great facilities
- Christine (10/5): - Very pleasant stay, very dog friendly. They go the extra mile for the pets, providing dog bowls and blanket for the wood floor areas. The bedroom was a very pleasant size and nicely decorated. The bed was comfy. The menu was different and Indian Cuisine orientated which was different to expectation in a pub, but there were limited other options on the menu. The lighting in the room and the corridor was a bit dull.
- Debra (10/5): Wonderful stay - Beautiful pub, Great location. Christmas decorations and open fireplace added to the ambience.
The food was excellent.
We had a selection of starters, lamb curry, and chicken curry.
It was one of the best Indian meals I have eaten, and I have been to some excellent Indian restaurants.
Compliments to the chef. There is nothing to dislike
- Claire (9/5): -
- Mark (8/5): - Good food, friendly staff, cosy room and good location for exploring/walking

- graham (6/5): -
- Chris (9/5): We booked late at a very reasonable price and were genuinely surprised at the quality :-) - Lovely location, with ample parking, plenty of walks close by, comfortable room, friendly staff, good range of real ales and a particularly tasty breakfast! Nothing
- Steve (10/5): - Lovely place, very friendly staff and superb food. We will certainly stay again, well recommended for a visit.
- kerry (10/5): Lovely friendly accommodations. Would highly recommend. Breakfasts were beautiful. - This accommodation exceeded our expectations. The bedrooms were beautiful very comfortable and clean. There wasn’t anything we didn’t like.
- Jan (10/5): Literally no complaints, lovely staff, great location, incredibly reasonable, will be going back soon - Set in a lovely location, the restaurant downstairs is absolutely outstanding and the staff were happy to cater for dietary needs, going out of their way to help. The room was cosy and had everything you needed including a really lovely comfortable bed. The owner spoke with us many times over our visit and was an absolute joy, she made us feel incredibly welcome along with the rest of her staff. Couldn’t recommend this place enough, a must stay if in the area
- Alex (7/5): Stay - Clean easy to get to and great view for the area. Menu was limited 2 of the meals were very spicy when not indicated on menu. They need to show this incase of issues as this can affect some people. Think there should have some other choices other than Indian and fish. Pie was the only one.
TV should be set up to work on live TV not have to add user details.
- Dick (10/5): -
- Paul (10/5): -
- Megan (9/5): Perfect little gem! - The Okeover Arms is a little gem! We went to Alton towers and wanted somewhere close but not extortionate and the pub had fantastic reviews. The staff were very friendly, the room was nicely decorated, small but perfect for our needs and comfortable. The breakfast was incredible - very good value for money! I hope we are in the area again one day because it would be lovely to stay again. It was a shame the pub was only doing Sunday lunch because we arrived at 18:30 Sunday evening and had to venture out again in the rain for dinner. Also the pub shut early - we were back by 9pm and would have had a drink in the bar but it was all closed up.
The corridor where the rooms are upstairs did smell a little doggy (we don't have a dog but appreciate this would be a perfect pub to stay with a pet) but our room was fine.
- Craig (7/5): -
- Robert (8/5): -
- Caroline (9/5): A great short break - Fab location and very nice hosts. Dog friendly for sure. Lovely food Nothing
- Neil (9/5): - Really friendly staff. Beautiful location.
- Linda (10/5): - The staff were so friendly, even offered to help us with our bags from the car. They also made a table available for an evening meal even though they were fully booked.
- Karenanne (10/5): Came up to run with The Dovedale Dash. Great location and really enjoyed our stay. Will definitely come back! - The location, the friendly staff and the food 😄
- Susan (8/5): Lovely staff and a very comfortable stay. - Excellent breakfast. Would have preferred ordinary bread to bagels. And perhaps some cereal and yoghurts.
Interesting evening meals. Very friendly staff. The lighting in our bedroom was poor. Not easy to read by at our age, The duvet for us was way too warm for a mild night.
- John (7/5): -
- Gemma (8/5): -
- Brian (8/5): Very pleasant, we would return. - Location restaurant N/a
- John (8/5): Wish we could have stayed longer. Hopefully will come again when the bar and restaurant are open. - Its location is beautiful in a small village in the Derbyshire dales. They love dogs and and catered for us magnificently. We stayed for one night and unfortunately the restaurant was shut that night. The owner did give us directions to a really nice pub where we met some wonderful local people so not all bad.
- Julie (10/5): Lovely people and very welcoming to dogs - The fact that it was Indian food served in a pub. Beautiful food. Felt very comfortable sitting alone. The staff made me feel welcome. Amy, my dog, enjoyed it, too. Lovely area for walking. Nothing to complain about.
- lisa (9/5): Great location for walking - Views and location stunning. Dog friendly Waiting 40 minutes for a cooked breakfast once arrived it was cold and over cooked
- AnnenDunc (10/5): Great value and great location. - The whole place is geared up for people with dogs. Perfect!
The food was really good and nothing was too much trouble. All the staff were lovely. A dog bed was put by the table when we ate and there was a treat for the dog each time we came to the table. The bed was a bit too firm, but that's purely a personal opinion, I'm sure others found it fine.
- elaine (10/5): - The whole experience Lovely staff and excellent food
The I dian dishes were so good only that
- Eleanor (9/5): Well worth staying there. - Good size room with a country view.
Excellent chef cooked meals & friendly staff. Recommend the stay for the meals. The bathroom had a damp odour, could be the age and no window.
- Nigel (6/5): Good location for visiting middle Peak District - Centrally located for this part of the Peak District. Food was ok but not made aware that the main dishes were Indian cuisine with limited plain dishes available Rooms are above the bar and very noisy until pub closes. Massive difference in the additional breakfast we paid for the day we arrived early, which was piping hot and excellent and the breakfast we got included in the room rate, which was poorer in comparison, cool when served and we had to wait 40 minutes for despite being the first and at that point the only people in the restaurant. Interestingly there was less on the plate, no hash brown, only one slice of toast and weird sausages compared to the previous day? Virtually no phone signal was frustrating as we needed to stay in touch with our family due to recent bereavement and very limited tv channels despite a young man spending 40 minutes trying to get it working for us.
- Lisa Coley (10/5): Absolutely amazing - Everything was perfect, the room was very clean and comfortable.
The staff amazing, so friendly and couldn't do enough for you.
Food, out of this world Nothing
- James (9/5): -
- Judith (10/5): Would love to return and do some more exploring of the area! - Location suited us beautifully. Staff were friendly and service great. Evening meal lovely. Breakfast choice good but our crumpets weren’t cooked well enough. Foam pillows!!!
- Anna (10/5): - Fabulous place to stay.
- Taisia (10/5): - Camera bellissima con bagno grande e doccia comoda. Contesto molto tranquillo in campagna. Il cibo del pub é ottimo così come la colazione
- Patrick Curtis (9/5): -
- paul (8/5): -
- Blake (10/5): the most perfect night away - i loved everything about the Oakover Arms Leaving, i would have loved a 2 night stay rather than 1
- Jo Harwood (10/5): - Fab little country pub with local walks on the doorstep. Staff were very courtesy & food was delicious. Lovely room looking out onto the fields. Perfect location for exploring the Peak District, can't wait to return :-) Nothing
- Cathy (9/5): Very nice pub/restaurant with rooms in a lovely location close to Dovedale. Definitely recommend. - Great location. Good sized carpark. Beer garden.
Staff very well trained, friendly and helpful.
Sustainable products- no plastic bottles
Food was EXCELLENT The room was a bit noisy when the bar was busy
- Alyn (8/5): -
- Peter (9/5): Relaxed and comfortable in a very popular pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. - Fabulous location with plenty of parking. The staff are very friendly, courteous and professional, the owner is absolutely lovely. Generous with her time and happy to chat to make us all feel welcome and at home. The food was very good, the breakfast was well cooked and a generous enough portion to make sure you were full. Tiny issue with a broken coat hook on the en-suite door and one on the main door, but these were nothing to detract from a lovely stay.
- Sarah (10/5): Beautiful pub, in a beautiful location run by beautiful people - Lovely friendly pub with amazingly helpful staff who obviously love their jobs and are very proud of the pub. The food was exceptional. The breakfast was spot on.
The rooms were spotlessly clean and welcoming.
We went to a wedding one night and had easy access back into the building with a key fob. Nothing we didn’t like.
- Steve (9/5): Spot on - Very friendly, good location and top quality breakfast. Great value for money Nothing
- Danielle (10/5): Beautiful countryside pub - Stunning location. Had a wonderful view from our room overlooking the field. Really comfy bed. Great value for money. The food in the pub was delicious as well. Highly recommend having dinner there. Nothing
- Janice (9/5): Superb - The food was excellent 👌
- Yvonne (8/5): Great stay in beautiful location with very friendly and helpful staff and delicious Indian food. - Location, staff extremely friendly and helpful. Delicious food.
