Guest Reviews
- Rosy (8/5): - The hotel needs new bathrooms. Wonderful people. Luis and his team are very nice people
- Kaleena (2/5): Niemals wieder! - Unpassende Lage; sehr laut; inkompetentes Personal das nachts!! Unerlaubt ins Zimmer kommt; jeden Tag muss man die Schlüsselkarte fürs Zimmer aktualisieren lassen; verstopfte Toiletten oder außer Funktion
- Abdul (2/5): Don't book this hotel - We had a terrible experience at this hotel. Our doors would not lock, we had to go downstairs every time to get new magnet keys. They don't do basic room services for days and you have to keep chasing them just to get clean towels. On our check out we got charged almost an extra $400 dollars supposedly because we got charged for 2 rooms even though the one room had nobody in it for 3 days. We debated them for hours and it got to the point where we almost missed our flight back to the US so I just paid. I had booked like 9 rooms and had an issue with just about every room. It was just not a good hotel, the upper level personal were horrible, there is no management to get a hold of. So only book this hotel if you have to, just overall bad. The worst hotel we've ever stayed at. My group and I travel somewhere new twice a year for the last 8 years and this was our worst experience hotel wise.
The bartender, the chef, and some of the night staff were really good though. They actually tried to make things better and tried to explain the issues.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The hotel that I intended to book in the website is NH Hotel Punta Cana. Although after booking the photo still to be NH Hotel, the actual booking transferred to 'Hotel Merengue Punta Cana' for some reason.
We took the taxi to NH Hotel and then found out no reservation there. Then have to take another taxi to this unexpected 'Hotel Merengue Punta Cana'. Both facilities, location are not as what we expected when make the booking for NH hotel. No hot water for the shower. The staff can't speak appropriate English, which is very difficult to make order for the breakfast. Also we realised that we have overcharged for the exchange local currency to US dollars when paying the hotel fee afterward.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Had no hot water. Had problems with locking the doors. Sheets were dirty. And there was a cockroach in the room. The only good thing was the breakfast.
- sylvie (6/5): Propre - -personnel à rentrer dans ma chambre à minuit
-eau chaude très difficile presque inexistante.
-personnel de chambre parfaite
- manque de mobilier.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not worth the money - Hotel water went out after first night. It was no water for 2 days. Toilet could not flush. No wash clothes. No safe in the room as advertised. Very disappointing
- Verified traveler (6/5): Wouldn't stay here again - We were only staying one night so I assume that's why we didn't get a very nice room. Tired and dated and rough around the edges. There was a conjoining door to another room which didn't provide much sound proofing - you could hear talking and the television from the room next door. Air con was good and so was the WIFI. Woman at reception wasn't the most friendly. The lady who served breakfast was lovely - although breakfast was random (mashed potatoes, ham and egg, followed by a nice fresh fruit salad)
- David (8/5): It was ok for a short stay - The first day of my stay the hot water wasn't working the wifi in the rooms wasn't working when your information clearly says rooms have wifi and the safe was broken in the room I was unable to lock/secure my valuables had to walk around with them on me as I said for a short stay it was ok you guys need to do better and stop with the false advertising
- Roselyn (10/5): Highly Recommend to friends. - We originally planned to stay for two nights, but decided to spend our entire week at the
Merengue. We found the staff extremely friendly and helpful, especially Tomas, Luis and
Mari. It's in a great location close to the beach and all of the excellent restaurants. Very relaxing atmosphere and reasonable price. Family friendly.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice hotel for short stays - The hotel has a nice placement, you can get to the beach in less than a 5 minute walked, it has several places to eat nearby, ranging from local food to something more "gourmet". On a 10 minute drive you will find the usual suspects, Burger King, Dennis, Subway among others.
The staff on the hotel is very nice and try to help you as best as they can, but take a deep breath while doing your checking it will take a while.
The facilities are what you could describe with "Plain and Normal" so don't spec anything more in your room than the bed, a tv and towel, your are getting what you paid for, although they have a nice poll.
There are only double bed rooms or a king sized bed ones, so carefully thing how an uneven group will sleep before doing the reservation.
- Merengue Hotel (6/5): Boa hospedagem - Boa
- Verified traveler (2/5): - They cancelled our reservation without telling us, when we arrived we had no place to sleep because the hotel was full. The receptionist just laughed and told us sorry it was cancelled at 2:30
- Francisco (8/5): Muito Bom! - Bom.
- Verified traveler (8/5): The hotel was nice and close to the beach - The hotel had the nicest staff I had ever met. If we needed help the hotel staff would go out of their way to help us. Hotel is close to the beach and there's always a ride available. Hotel is protected by security 24hours a day. Felt very safe and welcomed. The breakfast was awesome and the pool was beautiful. There's nice restaraunts right across the street next to two markets and a gift shop. I would recommend this hotel for the price.
- Amy (6/5): Nice stay - Cool stay. The night life was good. Came for semana santa , there were lots of tourist so the beach was full and active. Nice stay overall
- Arno (6/5): Hotel simples - Hotel bom, transporte até a praia.
- Felipe (4/5):
Not recommendable
- The room was badly damaged : Humidity on the ceiling, the unpainted furniture, lack of maintenance. The shower rusty and leaking water. Stained toilet. Lack of maintenance.
The bed uncomfortable.
For the price and the 3 star ranking, I was expecting much more .
The staff attention was very regular, staff need so much service attitude .
- Verified traveler (6/5): Reasonable plain small hotel in downtown Bavaro - OK for price but drab, little hot water, beat-up towels, noisy. Nice staff. Only few blocks from beach and across street from good restaurants
- 2 adults and a baby (6/5): 2 adults and a baby - Nice hotel with comfy private jard. Friendly staff. The rooms was a bit old and in need of a facelift. A 3-4 minute walk to the beach.
První pokoj jsme nepřijali vůbec, protože chyběl a)Hotels.com inzerovaný oddělený sedací kout (nebyla tam ani židle), b)trezor, c) žehlička a kromě toho tam strašně vrčel snad transformátor.
- Rose (8/5): Nice hotel; close to beach, restaurants. - When I was booking a hotel, this one had the most availability and was reasonably priced and included breakfast. I was concerned about the condition of the hotel since it had very few reviews, not the best ratings and as I said a lot of availability when other hotels were full. But I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, the staff was pleasant and helpful, the pool was nice, breakfast was good (eggs made to order with a side of mashed potato or plantain, toasted bread, cheese, ham, juice, coffee, no tea). We had lunch there as well - good authentic Dominican food at a reasonable price but there were other items on the menu. There are restaurants across the street and a free golf cart shuttle to the beach. At the beach there was a section of tables and chairs for guests from the hotel which was nice. The only draw back was having to walk through a section of shops/vendors but they weren't too aggressive.
- sheree (8/5): The hotel personnel are really nice - The hotel personnel are really nice. They really helped us when we wanted to go to a different restaurant, they gave us a ride to that place coz we didn't have any car that time.
Also. The hotel is very close to the beach even if they give you a ride, it's just like 10 minutes walking. But not just the beach, their front has a variety of stores and restaurant. It's close to many things.
I would just comment about their facilities, the room is not that great. The one that we had, there was a glich on the ceiling in the bathroom, the water is so gross too, not hot water (well, it's nice for the weather though, but I'd love to have hot water)
Our package includes breakfast, there was no verity of breakfast. Their service is slow.
But for the price, it's very reasonable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): A mixed review - Franklin and his staff were polite and well meaning, but the hotel is a bit tired. The breakfast choices(?) were quite limited and why was there no black tea, only coffee? The pool and grounds were well maintained but I didn't stick around much. Several decent bars and restaurants close by. When checking in at 1:30am there were a couple of 'working girls' walking out; saw a few more during my stay. Not the best place for a family.
- OSCAR (8/5): near beach - It´s good
- Cici (4/5): Walking distance to the beach but not very clean - Walking distance to beaches and a few restaurants and shops across the street. Take advantage of the cart/shuttle rides. Citrus offered the best food in my opinion but couldn't really find Dominican food anywhere. Seems a little dangerous to walk around at night which the sunset around 6pm for us. Taxis are usually 15-20 dollars flat rate wherever you go. The hotel itself was not very clean, especially the tub. The first room we had the tv didn't work so we switched room. In the next room, we were told the a/c would kick in about an hour and it never did. The lighting is very dim especially in the bathroom. Front desk staff was very helpful but still doesn't make up for overall condition of hotel.
- Stanley (6/5): Ain't no thang but a chickenwang - I arrived late and the staff was super attentive. I came just after a heavy rainstorm so a lot of roads were flooded.
Place was overall fine, pretty much in line of what you'd pay for
- javier (10/5): bueno - bueno
- Sulaiman (10/5): Super happy - Simply super - Franklin, supposedly the in charge, and rest of the staff was super friendly & helpful, and made sure that our stay was smooth and comfortable. Glad we booked that.
- Hiten (10/5): Excellent stay with good location and close to bea - My stay at Hotel Merengue was more than what I expected. Location is very good with lots of restaurant, walking distance to beach and great for night life.Hotel manager Franklin was very helpful and accommodate all our request. He booked for our excursions with good price. Definitely will stay here again.
- MARIO (8/5): Nice hotel close to the beach
- Hotel is close to the beach and across the street from nice restaurants. Very well maintained and good breakfasts
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice little alternative to the mega resorts - This hotel was recommended to us by a friend in Santo Domingo who swore by it for comfort, convenience and value. She was spot on, but only if you don't mind walking 10 mins to the beach. The accomodations are basic but clean. Tnere is a microwave and fridge with a few bottled drinks in there that they call a "mini bar" (soda, beer, water) and a decent size flat screen with enough channels in both English and Spanish. Breakfast is a la carte, except there is no menu - the waitress will give you a couple of options to choose from and that's it. Don't let that be a showstopper, though - everything we ordered was good, the fruit fresh, the coffee nice and bold. Only drawback, maybe, is that it sits right acriss the street from a little shopping center / restaurant area and those places keep their music loud until about midnight. Not a big deal to us since we never went to sleep early, but something to consider for some.
- Robert (8/5): Comfortable and pleasant Hotel Merengue Punta Cana - The rooms are older, but well maintained, cleaned daily and well stocked for a medium priced hotel. The water pressure and temperature was no less than what you would expect at a more expensive property. Other reviews complained of insects, I personally had no experience with insects. The in room WIFI had a strong signal and consistent. Hotel security was present and courteous. The entire staff at the hotel was very good. Thomas the resident manager and Louis the service desk receptionist were professional, courteous and informative of the local area, public transportation and activities in Punta Cana. Thomas speaks excellent English, as does Louis. The dining room and house cleaning service were also friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was included with the room and made to order. I highly recommend the Hotel Merengue. I plan to stay again.
- Justin (4/5): Merengue is not so sweet - Although we made a reservation through hotels.com, the front desk claimed they did not receive it. Luckily the price was basically the same and we didn't have to argue about it. The rooms were not that clean as there was hair in the beds, but they did give us new pillowcases and sheets, not sure how clean they were, just put them on and went to bed. Food is ok at best, free breakfast saved this from being a complete disaster. Area is loud and bright due to the night-life in the area making it hard to sleep if you are a light sleeper. I would not recommend this place to anyone that I know!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Decent stay - The hotel was nice for a one night stay. Staff were friendly and room was clean. Only complaint was the extra firm mattresses.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I had a good time at merengue hotel every was fine mainly the bar and the music they have good music list and an excellent food
