Guest Reviews
- Raul (10/5): - Good hotel nice grounds a bit dated but overall a good choice for the price.
- Q6546QZivanr (10/5): Twice a month my home far from home - The best bed in the best room in town. The Hotel premises are just beautiful and convenient. The staff the friendliest. What else can you ask for? And the meals, yum!
- Jose Luis (10/5): - Todo excelente
- Ernesto (10/5): - All good! Had a greaf time in a great room and the dinner was excellent!
- Christopher (10/5): - Wonderful staff!!
- Amanda (10/5): - We stayed on Valentine’s Day and scored reservations for a delicious dinner while a beautiful singer serenaded us. It was perfect. They had a photo station set up. Afterwards we walked the property and enjoyed the beautiful night and pretty gardens. Will definitely be staying here again.
- Christopher (10/5): - Excellent place and service
- tom (6/5): - This was our second stay at this hotel. I was prepared to give this hotel a high rating with only a few minor annoyances.
However, on our last night they had a very loud band or DJ playing at the open air bar from 7 pm to 1 am. It was incredibly loud.
I complained at check out and they said that they had a notice on their site that there was music on Thursday nights. I asked how they would have responded if I had played music at that volume in my room.
This was not music. It was F@*KING MUSIC!
WE WILL NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL AGAIN!
- Walter (8/5): - sehr freundliche Mitarbeiter
- Ester (10/5): - Excelente! El desayuno delicioso
- Becky (10/5): - The staff is wonderful; kind, accommodating, fun, helpful!
The breakfast is amazing. The location is perfect for many things.
The oldest rooms could use some work, but are as advertised.
Highest recommendation for this hotel!
- Zoltan (10/5): - Very kind stuff!
- Anthony (6/5): - Average place... Old facility with disorganized construction
- Roberto (6/5): - Bien
- Ivania (6/5): Almost had it all - This maybe just a small misunderstanding. I was made feel accountable for a bottle of water in the fridge at check out because it didn’t match the hotels brand. I did not put the bottle there so it made check out very awkward for me. The check in experience was wonderful with Roy. The team involved in the water debacle needs opportunity feedback on how NOT make a customer feel unwelcomed. The young lady who tossed the bottle of water into the bed so that it flew off and rolled under the bed… dramatic for me. lol. This hotel is beautiful. Good luck with your stay.
- PattiD208 (10/5): stay @ Hotel del Sur - Wonderful place to stay, Amenities are very nice, Staff is extremely helpful. Manager, Juan, goes above & beyond to ensure your stay is stellar. Juan gives personalized information on the surrounding area. He helped us immediately when we were having car problems. He found us a reliable reasonably priced mechanic,
- 147mauriceh (4/5): I feel like I made a mistake booking this resort. - The resort is three hours from San Jose Airport. Two hours from the beach. Four to five hours from the Panama border. It was suppose to be all inclusive but the manager told me I had to pay for my meals. Staff was nice, friendly & accommodating. The telephone number that was listed was incorrect. I wasn't given a tour of the resort facilities.
- bjdramou2023 (8/5): Two Weeks Stay - This property is great and the staff are courteous. Cleaning is excellent 👌🏾 and the excursions are amazing especially Caño Island with snorkeling.
The only downside are the challenge with WiFi connection (but then again, why is this important if you are relaxing and should be off digitally) and the bedding was not comfortable. Otherwise, lovely place!!
- Sergio (8/5): - Nice place, very nice staff, good food. Rooms are a bit outdated but besides that its a great deal!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The breakfast was good the first day but it got worse and worse. Over the weekend the hotel got crowded with people with a day pasos. This prevented a good service and the waitresses took very long to place an order.
- O9715 (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE - Upon our arrival, the hotel was completely silent. There was not another person in sight, besides the man at the front desk and the security that had let us through the gate. We immediately noticed the cubby system for the room keys directly behind the receptionist. For one, most every key was sitting in its respective cubby hole. But more importantly, there was no security for the keys. It was an open system with no covering or lock system over the keys. Anyone could walk behind the front desk and take a room key, and let themselves into any room. The receptionist was friendly enough, checked us in and told us our room was on the second floor. There was no elevator, so we carried our bags up the stairs ourselves. I have had six knee surgeries and a shoulder reconstruction, so this was not easy for me. Upon entering our room, the first thing we noticed was the door to the room did not close all the way and there was a large gap between the door and the doorjamb. There were water stains all over the door and it was very warped. We overlooked the door and started to settle in. We started by turning on the very small AC as it was off and the windows were left open. The screens over the open windows were broken apart with many holes in one and the other only partially attached on the sides. So not only was the room very hot, it was full of mosquitos. In a country that is known to have illness and disease spread by biting insects, mosquitos in particular, this is absolutely unacceptable. I understand that it is common practice to minimize energy by reducing air conditioning, but not like this. The sign on the door to the bathroom asked us to keep the bathroom door closed so the room would stay cool. The room cooled a tiny bit, but it was still quite uncomfortable.
We went to lock up our valuables and noticed the safe was locked, so my boyfriend went down and asked for the key to the safe. He was told that they didn’t have any guest keys to the safes on the property, as they were all lost. The only keys for the safes were a couple of back up keys, and guess where they were? Out in the open, in one of the cubby holes near all the regular room keys. So even if we did have a key for the safe, someone could just walk behind the receptionist desk, grab the back-up key to the room and the safe, and then steal everything important with no trouble. My boyfriend came back to the room and attempted to lock us in for the night. When we went to lock the door knob, we noti
- Joe (10/5): Great Staff - I was in CR for 7 nights - my best stay and value was at Hotel del Sur. I couldn't find the place upon my arrival - thank goodness Stephanie at the front desk spoke great English and was able to guide me to the hotel. I came to learn all of the front desk staff spoke good English actually. Not only did Stephanie help me find the place, but she was super friendly and accomodating regardless of my late hour arrival. I'll definitely be staying here again on my next visit.
- scott (10/5): Great Place for the money - I always have a great stay here. The room is very clean and comfortable. The staff is excellent and it is always clean. The included breakfast and menu items are great as well.
- Timothy (10/5): Great staff rooms need work - Great check in nice staff and the grounds and gardens are very well kept. The pools and restaurant areas were good. The restaurant staff was excellent and very attentive. Food and drinks were good and breakfast was. Great. The rooms were very basic and needed work or paint. No chairs or tables in room. Rooms were large and bathroom shower leaked. Hotel was built 40 years ago and could be very good place to stay. We would still go back if going through San Isidro General.
- Barbroolkie (8/5): South Central Location - very nice facility. we would have preferred to have kitchen or priveleges. lots of driving required from this place to places of interest. the nearby beaches are not the best. it was a good location for Chirripo which we did do.
- 605barbaraa (8/5): food was good - it was in the middle of nowherethere wasn't anything close by to do or see anything. i went to walmart two times to get supplies. torent a car it was $66.00 a day . we didn't do that. there wasn't a travel company that picked you up to take you any where
- 166evelynz (2/5): OMG!! - I have been coming to PZ for 20 years and have never stayed here. It used to be the best of the best in The area. I stopped here 2 nights ago and it was HORRIBLE!! The girl at front desk was nice, but rooms were subpar. I would say equivalent to the cheapest days inn are super 8 you have ever stayed in. In the morning there was no water, no free shampoo or conditioner, no wash cloths. Walk out the door and all you smell is pigs S@&t. Continue to breakfast which was just so so and see the young man that is the cleaning guy. Wow! I own my own company and would have fired him in a second. He mopped only part of the floor . But with a dry mop and no cleaning agent! Then he got the broom and walked around with it, but never actually swept the floor!!! 😱I will never return here!!!!
- KathleenLeo (6/5): Good Hotel in the Center - The hotel is good for the price, clean, air conditioned, includes breakfast, has restaurant plus a bar. It is situated next to where they have the festival for horse shows, rides, cattle for sale and right across the street from the Mall where they have a movie theater. Westay each year because we enjoy the Tope (horse parade). Sleep quality is not good during the festival because of the loud music.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The work out room was great and lots of things for children to do. so many amenities, tennis courts, pool table etc.
Did not like the fact that the shower was not fully enclosed. Water kept getting all over the floor even though we pointed the shower head at the wall. The safe box did not work. Otherwise the room was fine.
- 391teryng (8/5): Nice place to stay to see the south west quarter of Costa Rica - Hotel del Sur is conveniently located in San Isidro del General to be able to day trip all over the southwest quarter of Costa Rica. A short drive over a couple of ranges from the Pacific via downtown San Isidro (we found other mountain routes not paved all the way and appropriate only for 4-wheel drive, all-terrain vehicles). Las Quetzales National Park is just north, while another day we drove east to Chirripo National Prk. The longest drive we took was a day in the Osa Peninsula, eating in Puerto Jimenez and hiking along a portion of the Tiger River. Manuel Antonio National Park was another place we loved, and an easy drive once over the pass and along the Pacific coast.. The resort itself was nice, and Tony used the gym every day. Otherwise, we were there to see the area rather than to hang in San Isidro!
- Wander238387 (4/5): over sold as a resort - just a hotel and casino - miles from anything interesting and service for English speakers is hit and miss.
room service brought me fries still in the fry basket without silverware, plates etc.
we left this location after 4 days ( we booked 7).
it was OK at best.
- Phil (4/5): Expensive hotel, friendly staff - Hotel staff is friendly and helpful, and hotel in general is OK. Room floor was not really clean, lighting could be better (only one source of light in the room, and not very warm). Shower water was hot, which is always nice in Central America, but we had the visit of a cockroach in the morning. The hotel has a nice swimming pool and a nice restaurant with tasty food (slightly overpriced, though), but the pool table had no cue sticks or balls readily available... The casino is a nice option to waste some time and money, and is smoke free, which is definitely a plus. Overall disappointing for the price paid. Welcome to Costa Rica, I guess...
- María Rosa (10/5): - Lugar tranquilo, bien ubicado, relajante piscina
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great option - The hotel is 3kms away from the san isidro its location is great and is front of the only mall in the city the new part of the hotel is great the best option in the city
- James (8/5): INTERESTING COMBINATION OF AVAILABLE ACTIVITIES. -
FOOD WAS VERY GOOD. SWIMMING POOL VERY BIG AND NICE. PLEASANT MUSIC IN BAR.
ROOM NEEDED MORE LIGHTING. BEDS WERE HARD. STAFF WERE NICE.
- jose (8/5): Stayed for one night - Hood breakfast, good for the price you are paying.
- Kathleen (8/5): Hotel in Center of Everything - We stay at this hotel whenever we are in San Isidro. Food is good, pretty atmosphere, has air conditioning, queen beds. It is right next door to the Expo that comes in February, and right across from the Mall and a movie theater.
- Chris (8/5): A great place as a base and to relax - Helpful and friendly staff with an excellent pool good restaurant and lots of outdoor space to relax.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Basic room. Pools- nice, restaurant-nice. Good location for our stay. Loved watching the fitness classes, and Firday night dance
- Verified traveler (8/5): Jon and Fred - Nice
- Rolando (8/5): Best place to stay in the area - Nice pool and gym. Great food at the restaurant, though overprice.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great hotel in the area - I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights on a business trip.
The hotel is a country club in San Isidro. It has a nice pool, hot tub, tennis courts, full gym, restaurants, and a casino.
Hotel: I was there during low season, so I pretty much had most of the hotel to myself. The hotel staff wasn't very friendly, but they answered most of my questions and made some effort to be helpful. Just not friendly. They do have secure, gated parking which is included with your room, and the hotel is on the Panamerican highway, so it is very accessible. The rooms are big and well kept. Some limited toiletries in the bathroom, but everything is clean. The AC worked well. The beds were hard - I sleep better in hard beds, but some people may find it uncomfortable.
Restaurant: the food was decent, though some dishes overpriced for the location. The restaurant staff was very friendly and courteous. The breakfast was a very typical Costa Rican dish, and overall food quality was good.
Gym: the hotel/club has a full gym where many of the locals are members, so it is usually packed. But it's a very complete gym for a hotel. I think I saw a personal trainer there as well, in case you need it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - not too many choices in this area, not a great hotel but best in town. good pool, gym and tennis courts
