Guest Reviews
- Heiner (10/5): - Excelente hotel, buen trato y muy cerca de todo, super recomendado
- Helen (6/5): Clean and well located - Clean hotel with good breakfast and well located. There was a lot of building / maintenance work going on whilst I was there which was noisy. The grounds don't have as much wildlife as local properties.
- Preeti (2/5): No Hot Shower, Lizard Dropping on the Bed & pillow - Poorly managed property to maximize their profit. It ruined part of our vacation. Here's why:
1. We found lizard droppings on worn-looking comforter and pillow. Unsure how long the room was unused, and no one refreshed it before given to us.
2. Towels felt like old rag, yellow. No hand towels. When asked for hand towels, I was told that they don't give hand towels but gave 2 to me. And changed the yellowish towels to less yellow towels, still old and used.
3. Shower had no hot water. With hot and cold nob fully opened the water flow was low. The water situation is to keep the water and electricity cost low (as mentioned by a hotel staff). They have a solar-powered water heater. While I appreciate using renewable energy, coming to a hotel with a trickling cold shower is not ideal. Allegedly, while we were out, they tried a couple of times to fix the shower, but it wasn't fixed. I asked for a key to another room with a working shower, so our family of four marched three flights of stairs for our two day stay to take showers.
4. Dated and neglected property. Inside our room, the countertop's edges were falling, bathroom sink had permanent stains resembling puke marks, shower nob was had concrete residue all around it. Soap smelled washing detergent.
5. Tight, small parking lot at the front allows tourist buses to unload; cars cannot come out until then. It has overflow parking spaces nearby.
Breakfast was decent.
Overall a very poor experience for $288 a night stay.
- Mitchell (4/5): - Our room was very small and run down. Room was clean but fixtures and finishes were old and beat up. Smelled like moth balls or some kind of air freshener, and there is loud construction going on all day in the compound.
- Sergio (10/5): Enjoyable stay - We enjoyed our stay. The hotel meets what you need, it is clean, the staff is friendly, the breakfast is good and many things are walking distance. We walked to the beach (20 minutes), walk to a few restaurants (less than 10 minutes) and even did a yoga class and massage (2 minutes walking distance).
It's only 10 minutes driving from Manuel Antonio national park.
- Pedro (10/5): Great! - Very friendly staff. Cozy stay
- Jose (10/5): Will stay again for sure. - The bus to Manuel Antonio stops in front of hotel. Did not have to drive anywhere. Plenty of suvenirs, restaurants and bars in walking distance. Very friendly staff
- William (8/5): William in Quepos - It is not a high-end hotel, and is one of those struggling to stay alive as a result of the COVID plight. It was clean and maintained excellent COVID sanitation.
As with many operations affected by COVID, the administration is grasping at straws wherever possible, in order to collect that "extra dollar": and, while understanding the need, I did not appreciate the underhanded methodology and false claims used to extract an additional 30.000 CRC. [If required, I have no problem with giving the details.]
I would recommend Divisamar for an inexpensive "no frills" stay in a fabulous location.
- Nina (8/5): - It was very close to all the main tourist destinations, like Manuel Antonio. There was a good breakfast in the morning. They took a lot of precautions because of COVID so it felt very safe and clean.
- HermanR (10/5): - The hists were very polite and friendly. The restroom could ge a lilltle TLC.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff was very nice; folks at the breakfast were very kind. I think overall is a good place, and it's on the affordable side. You can get luxury facilities someplace else, but you'll probably will have to pay 5x more for that.
I like they clean the room very well everyday and it has a good location (but please check the map before you go so you don't think is right next to the beach - I knew it wasn't, but it's close).
I'm happy, my family was happy and we will stay again.
- PeteyL (8/5): - Helpful staff, clean rooms, good facilities. The hotel is located centrally.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - As soon as i entered the room, I checked out. Nasty old room with rust and mildow.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Good location but a rooms and bathroom are in need of an upgrade. Low water pressure.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent location with choices of dining close by. convenient to take the bus to quepos or manuel antonio parks. rooms were ok. ac was very noisy. some water leaks in the bath that kept dripping all day. but otherwise, we loved the place.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - At check in they didn’t have our reservation. The next day when we asked front desk to watch our luggage, they insisted that we return by 3pm. Given our check-in was such a debacle, we expected more consideration. When we asked for more time, they responded that they were so busy with new reservations, they couldn’t watch our bags any later than 4pm. When we came to pick it up, they weren’t busy at all and we realized they were being difficult for absolutely no reason. Overall this hotel had the most unfriendliest staff we’ve ever experienced in Costa Rica.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff was super! They helped with setting up tours and all our needs. The hotel is very dated and not super clean. It is very noisy and the beds and pillows were very uncomfortable. The pool area was nice and the parking was secure. Within walking distance to restaurants and shops. Again, the staff was amazing!
- Leyna (8/5): - The room was nothing to get too excited about, but was nice enough. WiFi, AC & Fridge are all a plus. Even though I didn't use it, the pool looked awesome. Walking distance to Selena, which has a pretty cool nightlife. The owner/manager was very nice and helpful.
- Richard (10/5): Love Manuel antonio - Just the best location
- Rodrigo (8/5): - The location was not as close to the beach as depicted on the map.
- Noha (6/5): Could be better - Found hair ALL over the bed. Not just a couple strands but also a big clump of it. I was so disgusted. When we complained to the front desk he told us he couldn’t do much and would have to speak with the manager. He was very stand offish when we brought it up to him. They changed our sheets and eventually agreed to give us a free breakfast. The manager, Eric, is very loud and sarcastic. The power went out and when asked if he knows when the power will return he replied “when we pay the bill. Maybe tomorrow, maybe next year, maybe never” as he was walking away from me. No customer service skills at all. The location of the hotel is about a 15-30 min walk to the beach. There are only sidewalks part of the way so it can be a little dangerous since the roads are winding and cars zoom past you.
- k (8/5): - Hotel was nice for the area, we toook advantage of the pool and free breakfast. Al the owner was very helpful with all our questions. there is a very cheap bus to get you to the beach and back. We loved the location near a grocery store, pharmacy, and we loved the restaurant across the street.
- Colette (8/5): Exceptional staff - Staff, especially Al on the front desk was exceptional, only negatives were:
A lot(!) of French students were there on the 1st night and they were running between rooms, playing loud music, shouting across to each other and at 1 stage banging on one of their friends door.
Wifi was hit and miss.
Shower was either very hot or cold, no in between.
Location is very good.
- Jet (6/5): Nice hotel - The hotel is easy to locate, very convenient to park and restaurants. Good value, clean, friendly staff.
- Jennifer (10/5): - We stayed for 2 nights and toured locally during this time. Secure parking, a restaurant with a fantastic view right across the street, and within walking distance to small supermarkets, this was a good hotel for our needs. Private, quiet, and has AC too.
- Cristina (4/5): - They should give it some maintenance. Family hotel and somehow they have a not good relationship this reflects in the spirit of the place.
- Brian (10/5): A beautiful property - A nice and conveniently located place to stay in Manuel Antonio. The property has a beautiful garden and Al is very helpful and kind. Facilities such as banks, cafes and supermarkets are just a few steps away.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Great staff and breakfast, stuffy room - Check in was easy, although they only gave us 3 towels when we had 4 guests (3 adults, 1 child). The pool was nice and warm and reception was very nice. Breakfast was amazingly delicious! The issues I ran into were regarding the room itself. It was very stuffy and I developed allergies only when I was in the room, and the floors could have been cleaner. Overall, I think I paid more for this hotel than I should have.
- Sam (6/5): Reasonable price, easy location, nice enough - Nothing to rave about. One of the more reasonably priced places in Manuel Antonio. All the staff were nice and helpful. The bus stop is right outside which makes traveling to the beach (National Park) or Quepos really easy. A few nice cafes/restaurants around the area in walking distance as well as a small supermarket across the street. WiFi only seemed to work outside the room. Bring insect repellent. If you plan to use WiFi at night you will need to sit outside and there are a lot of mosquitoes and other flying insects that sting or bite.
- Robin (6/5): Nice hotel, little things to improve. - Pros:
The hotel is really pretty and on the perfect location, you can go walking to a lot of restaurants and you can book a variety of tours right from the front desk.
The included breakfast was really good.
The pool has a good size and temperature.
The room was clean and it has a mini fridge.
In general it is very calm so you can relax and stay away from all the stress :)
Cons:
The beds, you can feel the springs in your back.
The pillows, very bad quality pillows.
The shower, they have a solar heated system for the water but something has to be wrong because the water comes out too hot or completely cold.
The tv at the room is very very little.
- Julio (8/5): Well located. - Close to Manuel Antonio National Park and with public bus stop across the street. Hotel is a place to leave your bags and sleep, not really a place to spend all day hanging around. Facilities are clean and simple. Staff is nice and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good budget hotel - Good budget hotel for a couple of nights. Easy to get local bus to both Manuel Antonio and Quepos. Local cafes good. WiFi not so good. Very clean, fridge in room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel with a great pool - Inexpensive, compfy, friendly, close to bus stop. Numerous restaurants and bars close by.great pool and very nice breakfast.
- Mark (10/5): Excellent value. - Room adequate for sleeping and resting. Garden and pool well maintained. Efficient, friendly staff.
- María (8/5): Okay, close to beach and park - It was okay, a bit expensive. I used Expedia points so it was okay, but I wouldn’t pay regular price
- michael (8/5): Good hotel but weak wifi - Good hotel all around. Like most Costa Rican hotels, the WiFi sucks (issue for those needing to do work while on vacay)
- Christopher (8/5): one of the cheaper hotels, perfect on a budget - This hotel was a little dated, but met our needs sufficiently for our two night stay in Manwell Antonio. Just a few minutes walk to the restaurants (like el avión), bars and markets. Definitely one of the cheaper hotels, would highly recommend if you're on a budget.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Conveniently 5 mins by bus from the beach - Quiet and well located. Bus stops for public transportation across the street. 5 mins away from Manuel Antonio Public Beach. Close to bars and restaurants.
- Roger (10/5): Reasonably priced, older but clean establishment. - We highly recommend Manuel Antonio Park and surrounding area. Extraordinary wildlife, beaches, food, and activities.
- Ms (10/5): Great hotel for solo travellers - Thank you Al for putting me next door to another solo woman traveller, it was lovely to meet someone new! I found my hotel room extremely clean. The only small difficulty I had was working out the shower - basically you have to turn the left hand tap on full, which is the hot water, and then when it heats up add a little bit of cold. The pool is quite warm, despite that I still loved my swims. Excellent sunset, happy hour and meals at the Barba Roja restaurant over the road, and delicious banana pancakes and coffee for breakfast at Cafe Milagro next door. Wifi worked fine for me - I only used it for emails and Whatsapp
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice small boutique hotel close to the beach. - This hotel has a lot of character and personality! It's very close to Manuel Antonio and the beach. There are a lot of great restaurants in the area to have dinner and watch the beautiful sunset over the Pacific Ocean. There are monkeys, iguanas, and other rare animals that live and hang out on the property.
- Dave (10/5): Don't miss out on this place! - Big AL is a great host...the place was beautiful and the best part was watching the white faced monkeys come through the complex at 6am and 5pm every day...can't wait to go back...Thanks AL from minnesota!!!
- SARAHB (10/5): Loved Divisimar! - We arrived late after reception was closed, a friendly 24 hour security guard greeted us withs room key. Our room was super clean and comfortable. I couldn't get hot water in the shower but didn't mind. The owner Al was very nice and recommended cheap breakfast place close by. The pool and gardens were very pretty and neat. This hotel is a great affordable place to stay in Quepos.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Clean - The adminiatradors should be more polite
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ok for the money - A bit outdated hotel with pool and jacuzzi. The room was comfy and location is great. Free breakfast is a joke really
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice Pool, Rooms not so much - If you are looking for a cheap hotel to stay in Manuel Antonio and you are not looking excatly for comfort this is the place for you.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bug infestation - Stayed there for one night when we reserved for 3 nights. We could NOT stay here for another day for many reasons.
- The beds were lumpy cots and had only sheets for blankets.
- found a pile of termite eggs on the counter. Having stayed at tropical hotels before, we were willing to overlook this after cleaning it up ourselves. But the next morning, we woke up to a new pile of termite eggs.
- our first night we tried to enjoy the pool and jacoozi outside but the jacoozi was broken and the pool had no lighting.
- we decided to just go to sleep and try to look forward to exploring the town the next morning. I woke up at 3 am to go to the bathroom and there was a swarm of crawling ant-like bugs all over the bathroom floor, ceiling, and toilet. This was the last straw.
When trying to explain our situation and discuss our options with hotel Divisimar, the staff was very unhelpful and refused to give us a refund. The staff made us feel like we were at fault for not having bug repellant all over our room. Very thankful we left when we did because the next hotel was a completely different experience and it was only 20 steps away form Hotel Divisimar
- Verified traveler (4/5): Rude and not helpful. - The manager and front desk person are rude and not helpful. I reserved a room with two queens and gave me a room with one queen and one twin. They said I had to take it up with Expedia because there was nothing they could do. I would never book anything through Expedia ever again or recommend Expedia or this hotel!! For the price you can definitely find something better...
- Ricky (8/5): Quite nice hotel - Fine location, nice breakfast, kind staff and clean room
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The rooms were full of bugs and the management did not seem to care. I had to ask for my room to be switched as there were too many bugs in the washroom and I woke with bite marks on my face and when I told the front desk, all they said was thanks for letting us know, but you know this is a tropical area so there are bound to be bugs. Yes, but not in hotel rooms, it means their hotel needs renovation and they did not seem sorry or offer to change rooms or reimbursement. I had to ask for room to be changed.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Enjoyed are sta only stayed one night wish we had more time to stay longer . An Al was so nice an helpful with all my question
- Taimi (10/5): Great location, price & staff - I wouldn't think twice about coming back to Divisamar, the hotel was clean, room was well equipped and very spacious, the AC worked wonderfully; but the best part was definitely the friendly & helpful staff. The pool was ALWAYS clean, and it stays nice and warm after a sunny day, so you can relax after a long beach day.
- Leslie (8/5): Close to Manuel Antonio park and beach - We arrived late after a long drive across Costa Rica. Fortunately security was there and the keys and wifi password were given to us. The two rooms were perfect for us and our 2 children and grandchild. Live music and great smells from the neighbouring coffee shop, Cafe Milangro, welcomed us. Breakfast was included but not available until 7:30. We had to leave on a tour at 7:30 so the aforementioned Cafe Milangro met our needs magnificently.
- Orin (4/5): Adequate place to stay - No car? You can walk for most services, but a long way from the beach and Manuel Antonio Park. Limited parking & breakfast. Airconditioner too small for the room. Pool, shade and abience good. Would only recommend to persons on a limited budget, and having transportation.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel - Hotel was great for our stay. Staff was very friendly, room was cleaned everyday. Hotel was within walking distance from a lot of things. Defiantly enjoyed it there!
- julianne (6/5): - Rooms could use a little updating and it was a bit nosey but it was clean and in an excellent location.
- Teri (6/5): Old beach hotel - While close to Manuel Antonio beach, its a cute little hotel that could use some room upgrades. Reminds me of quaint old beach hotels on the shoreline of Florida. The room walls are paper thin, as when sitting outside in the morning having a QUIET conversation, someone in the room over said could we please keep it down they were still sleeping. Breakfast is okay, not a buffet, no eggs. Toast, fruit, rice and beans and coffee. And they bring it to you. Definitely a budget hotel.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Run down hotel, some way from the beaches. - While I booked the hotel substantially increased the price of the room. The increase was not justified. Breakfast was very ordinary, Wi Fi often did not work. The pool was far too hot because the water filter was switched off every afternoon. I enjoyed my time in Manuel Antonio because I knew the area. The hotel did not add to my enjoyment.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Convenient location, nice grounds. - Primitive room. Mattress not the best. Clean and AC worked ok.
Enjoyed the grounds w monkeys. Very nice staff.
- Joe (4/5): 3 Star? Not! - I wouldn't recommend this joint to anyone at anytime ever. The ladies doing housekeeping and breakfast were nice, they kept up the landscaping, but the front desk and furniture all need to go for the price. I think Expedia thought they were 3 stars based upon rate. I've stayed at number of 3 stars and this place is overrated!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Okay, but not great - The internet was spotty at best. The hotel was basic and tidy for the most part. The personnel were friendly! The best part was probably the pool. Sitting in the pool area you can see iguanas and monkeys pass by on the back fence. The breakfast had room for improvement, a little more variety would be nice. Overall it was a good price for three people, quiet laid back hotel in Manuel Antonio, close to a small grocery shop and some restaurants. The AC was great!! This is what I was expecting based on the price and the region.
- Tom (6/5): Hotel with dirty pool! - Dirty swimming pool, old buildings and rooms, however A/C was working OK. Agly breakfast area, served very late 7:30AM, and staff were late, so we ate around 8am, food also poor selection and amount, choice of white toste with tiny jam and agly tasting margarin (probably remembering technology of WWII) or rice with beans. Owner said staff leave outside of town, so they are late everey day (dont expect breafast at 7:30!!!). We were also charge extra for extra guests, two children cost us extra $80!!!. Poore wi-fi coverage. Owner seems to be squizing evrey single dollar from this place. With little investmen and little bit more labor it would be nice place to stay. NOT RECCOMENDED PLACE TO STAY!!!
- Joseph (8/5): Not sure why other reviews are bad. - Not sure why people have bad reviews.
They recently remodeled tho so ....
Men in the office were very helpful.
- John (8/5): Centrally located on the cliff with a nice pool - This hotel is situated between the only 2 casinos, but of course no one should gamble there. The concierge was helpful in picking great restaurants and tours.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It's all good . Quite clean place . Nice pool , friendly staff
- Verified traveler (6/5): - enjoyed swimming and lounging around the pool. rooms were great with tv, and fridge.
- Carl (10/5): You are lucky to stay here - This place was great. I read a previous review which compared it to a motel 6. That was so wrong! It was very charming and a very spacious room. The location was perfect for going to Manuel Antonio. The bus stops right in front of the hotel. Easy to get a taxi. Free breakfast. Clean rooms. Big bathrooms. Beautiful landscaping. Nice pool. They did everything right that they could. It is a quaint perfect place.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The WIFI is suck.
In breakfast without aggs.
- wellington (10/5): good hotel - nice hotel good room clean beautiful grounds, bus stop to park right in front restuarants and stores within walking distance, atm too brothers who run hotel were very helpful and excellent hoteliers
- Kaveman (4/5): I couldn't wait to get out of there!!! - The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. Booking tours, arrange rides etc... The swimming pool area was nice and pleasant. It is on the main highway and close to some really good restaurants and bars.
I stayed at the Forest Hills Suites in Herradura prior going to Hotel Divisamar. Perhaps I was a bit spoiled. But, the hotel have just celebrated its 25th anniversary. And it shows!! I know that they are trying their best. However, there is no excuse for having really crappy beds for your guests. My back is still in pain after sleeping there for three nights. OUCH!!! If they make real upgrades. Yes, perhaps I will give it another try. I hope this helps. Bon voyage!! - K
- junaid (8/5): Clean hotel good location - We enjoyed our stay at this hotel the hotel and room was clean room was big enough for two of us we enjoyed the pool, very good location less than a 10 minute ride to manual antonio beach, Eric the owner was very helpful providing information about the places to eat or visit.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Costa Rican motel 6 at best - This is close to a motel 6. Don't expect much except that it is very close to what you need to get to. Beaches, national parks and restaurants are very very close to this shack. The guy who operates this place is informative
- Chris (6/5): Good location - The hotel is well positioned for access to the beach via the regular bus. It is close to good restaurants especially the one next door. The service is very good and helpful on how you can arrange your itinerary. The room was in an older block and the amenities very a little tired. The bed and air conditioning were excellent.
- Mario (4/5): Worse management ever. - Management sucks! From the beginning they provided a very poor customer service. The one who should be taking care of the customers is the security guard. Can you believe it at the check out they even checked if the towels were all in the room. That was very humilliating! I will never stay in that hotel ever again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Worst - I will not stay there ever again.
With $20 extra I found much nice place on the beach.
