Katrina (10/5): Beautiful inn with modern extension provides a restful stay. - Continental breakfast was as advertised and and available at early hours so we could get our day going. Email was thorough about arrival. Helpful, since arrival was automated through ipads. Building is gorgeous, and the room was well appointed with multiple shelves to allow travelers to keep track of sundry items. We were in the far back of the addition, which was fine. It would have been helpful in the information provided to tell us to park in back and use the rear entry. Also to tell us more about how to access breakfast. We heard about both only because we ran into the site manager by chance.

Michele (10/5): Beautiful Home with great history. - This is a beautiful old home. Our room was however, located in a much more modern wing built to expand the number of rooms. The extension was much more charming inside than it looked from the outside and it was connected to the main house. Tyler was there to check us in and was quite friendly and helpful. He gave us a personal tour of the Harkness Porter Amateur Telescope Museum. It is a tribute to Harkness and his love and knowledge of telescopes. The museum is housed in a series of rooms connected by tunnels under the house. Harkness also built an articulated telescope in his yard and connected it to his workrooms through a 150 foot tunnel. We don’t eat breakfast, but the coffee was hot and good. There were some fruits, pastries and doughnuts available with the coffee. Would have liked to be in the main house, but I didn’t realize this in our communication.

Cristina (6/5): Hotel suggestivo ma poco pratico - L'hotel è in una villa d'epoca del 1900, con lobby e parti comuni molto suggestive, arredate come una vera casa in stile. Al mattino ci sono a disposizione caffè e the in abbondanza e una piccola selezione di dolci. Anche se l'ambiente è suggestivo, la comodità delle camere lascia veramente a desiderare: i letti sono tra i più scomodi in cui abbiamo mai dormito, con materassi sfondati, bugnosi e rumorosi e i piumoni sono soffocanti. In più l'hotel non è in una posizione comodissima. Visto tutto ciò, il rapporto qualità - prezzo non si può dire conveniente.
Mercedes (8/5): - The mansion is stunning, the connected hotel is very average. The pillows might be the least comfortable I have ever slept on!! If they got better pillows, the whole experience would be much better!

Bathroom didn’t have space/counter around sink area. Strange wall shelving around tv that wound not work. Over priced for a mediocre stay.

Milcah (10/5): - I visit Springfield at least once a year, this is my second stay at the hartness house, I’ve stayed in the mansion and in the hotel, I have been very happy with both options. The mansion is stunning and enjoying a coffee and pastry in the mansion in the morning is lovely. I’m glad to see this historic building being taken care of so thoughtfully.
Lisa (8/5): - The room was very nice. Very clean. The bed and bed pillows were very very uncomfortable. Too hard. I had to go buy a new pillow at Walmart so I could sleep better. Coffee and pastries and fruit in the morning was great. Check in and check out was easy.

Leticia (1/5): Terrible experience! - I would not recommend this hotel. So disappointed. I booked the hotel based on the pictures the hotel has on the Booking platform and when we arrived we got a room in an entirely different building. The room was worn-out, the bathroom tiny and the staff absent. The breakfast was bread and fruit put out the evening before. Everything was serve-yourself. I had to call the hotel's phone to get someone to come out and help. Worst service ever. There is no way a double room in this hotel during May is worth what we were charged.
Jennifer (8/5): - Very nice place, clean and comfortable. I received several emails with instructions on checking in, codes etc… check out was not so easy; the doors lock with your key and yet no instructions as to where to leave the key. No staff and no key boxes!
Sean (2/5): - Talk about a bait and switch. This is my 176 nights in hotel beds since 1/2024. Worst mattress I've slept in all of those nights. The market depicts a glorious mansion. More like broken down Motel. Only stay here if your desperate or broke.

Victoria (10/5): A wonderful gem we were lucky to find. - We had a wonderful stay, the house is absolutely gorgeous. We were lucky enough to meet one of the owners and get a tour of the tunnels and a bit of the history on our first night in. It was fascinating and I highly recommend chatting with them if you get a chance. We stayed in the last room in the back but it is connected to the rest of the house through hallways and is easy to navigate. My friend and I went skiing while my boyfriend stayed in the house and explored the town. He had the house mostly to himself both days on a holiday weekend and he enjoyed being in the space reading and working. The house is not staffed all the time but it is set up to have everything you need and you can always call someone. The rooms were warm and cozy. They offer pasties and coffee for breakfast which was lovely. Short 20 min drive to Okemo. Copper fox in town is delicious for dinner. All in all a wonderful gem that we were lucky to find.

James (8/5): - The place was very clean and well kept, but we felt like we had the entire Inn to ourselves. We heard coughing from another room, but it felt very empty. We saw a staff member only in the morning and they were great! Very friendly, very helpful and took us on a tour of the tunnels and told us the history of it all. What was disappointing is the lack of a restaurant/ bar which was a big highlight when we stayed here years ago. When we came here years ago, it felt lively with what seemed like locals coming for dinner and hanging out and guests enjoying the their time. This time around, aside from the morning we were there with the staff member, the whole experience felt hands off. We even joked that it felt like the "Ghosts" were running the business. Would we return, yes. But as the staff member said, we were in the slowest time of the year, the in between seasons. So, next time, for us, perhaps a busier time and maybe after they open the restaurant/bar for good food and good times.

Ji Hye (4/5): - We were given a room in the very back of the facility by a passcode given to unlock the back door ourselves, and the facility seemed to be a cheaply constructed addition to the original mansion and the whole place seemed to be quite empty. We were already disappointed at the condition of the poor room, we realized that the room also reeked with cigarette smell which gave us bad headache. No staff was to be found in the building to assist us, and after calling a number, a staff person was reached after some time, and came to the property, gave us a different room which was in the mid-section and much cleaner compared to the first disastrous room offered to us. The cleanness (or the lack of it) was very disappointing for the first room we were given and I hate to imagine if we got there later in the evening and no one could come to fix the problem we had. The main lobby interior was very charming as shown in the pictures, but there was no air conditioner running so it was stuffy and not pleasant to stay there either.

We were in the motel section which was clean and quiet, however not all amenities were present. Arrived around 7:30pm, but disappointed that the bar was to be closing soon. Beautiful house, nice self serve breakfast amenities however again disappointed not to see anyone present to talk to or ask about the details of the house. Perhaps it was because it was a Monday evening/Tuesday morning, but felt like we missed out on more of an engaging experience. Almost seemed like an empty house.
Dana (4/5): - Finding it was a problem. Goggle maps sent me in circles. The mansion itself was lovely but the hotel attached to the back was hardly better than a youth hostel. The room and linens were clean but parking was just bare ground and broken curb stones too rough to wheel luggage over. Most of the time my room had no internet connection. Most of the time there was no staff available on site. There was no ice. The bar was closed by 8 on Saturday night; maybe it was never open. It was comfortable but much too expensive for what it was. The manager was nice.

Katherine (10/5): - Staying in a clean hotel/rental is top priority for me and my family. Our room (35) in the back rooms of the Hartness house was impeccably clean. Pay attention to your booking, there are many rooms not in the original house where we stayed and I would highly recommend. You still have access to the charming main house, with its rich history, and if you’re lucky, a tour down underneath the house to check out James Hartness’s private quarters, telescope and small museum honoring him and many inventors from his time. Breakfast was just what we needed before heading to Okemo to ski, only a 25 minute drive. The small town of Springfield is very charming as well, with food options and remnants of an industrial era. The Hartness House is definitely worth a stay
nathalie (10/5): - We stayed for 2 nights in the mansion, it was super clean and the staff was very friendly. It’s quiet so it was very easy to feel relax. The bar was great! The rooms are big and very clean, we love the history of the house. Overall a good experience
Mary Ellen (10/5): - I was looking for an overnight stay after skiing with my adult children and visiting family nearby. We were limited because of only needing a one night stay when Hartness House popped up on the internet. Was a sweet surprise because this place was a gem. I was getting in late so the area was dark but then we pulled up to the mansion being well lit with beautiful string lights. They give you a door code to the front door and to your room so no assistance was needed at the late hour. The inside was wonderful with its old world phones, victrola, grand staircase and all the comfy seating areas on the first floor. The next morning we woke to coffee and scones in the living space and sat in the window seats. Upon reading about the Hartness history and the tunnels underneath we were able to get an unexpected tour of the tunnels, office and lab underneath. The history was really something. The woman was very informative and knew all the facts about the space under the mansion and the family and took a lot of pride telling us about it.

We had strangers enter our room using their code in the middle of the night, which was very scary. The bar also closed over an hour early on a Saturday night by 8pm. It was disappointing as we came back from dinner looking forward to having a drink in the beautiful lobby.

Place was very clean. It was amazing to see a lot of older things withing the main lobby. The beds were not comfortable to sleep on. There was no staff in the building. And while we were a party of 3, there might have only been maybe 2 other parties staying at the hotel. No Mini Fridge to keep cold drinks in.

Robert (8/5): - The place is really nice and clean. I am not sure about the totally automated check in and out. I am 75 years old and it was kind of strange to not interact with any of the staff.

Paul (7/5): Manager was amazing - No breakfast kitchen closed. Minimal staff so we we re e greeted by an envelope taped to the front door. No personal attention. Not the kind of place for us.

Kathryn (2/5): If you want to feel welcome where you're staying, skip this place. - Property is beautiful. Room was clean and quiet. Nice view out the window. There are no human beings at this hotel. If there's a problem, no one to see. It's all done online or by telephone. I was locked out of my room at 10:30 at night, only managed to get in on the 4th try. Lynx system informed me I didn't have a reservation, though I had paid over $200 for one. Main house on property devoid of people, everything is passwords and devices.
Amanda (6/5): - It wasn't the easiest check-in, it took about 15 minutes for me to actually get inside the building because I did not receive an email with my information only an envelope with my information taped to the front door after the only directives I was given was to check in through the back door. I was also disappointed that they don't have any microwaves or refrigerators in their hotel rooms.
T (6/5): It’s a beautiful facility but no way to alert in case of an emergency - Location and updates underway I was locked out with no one on property to help get in. They use code locks that worked until my early morning departure.
Sharon (9/5): Just very interesting and enjoyable to be part of history there. - I enjoyed the history and mansion very much, so interesting. Tyler was exceptional in explaining about the underground tunnels, inventions and about James Hartness and his family to my friend and I. We enjoyed our stay at the mansion very much!

Peter (8/5): Unique Mansion experience with amenities and very few people. - Very nice place to stay - in a well-kept mansion house with a unique history. I was imagining coming in with a group of people and using the piano room, dining room, or bar room, or wandering around the grounds in the summer months. Everything was very clean and comfortable. The A/C worked well. I didn't see or come in contact with anyone there. Almost everything I needed was accessible though. I saw that staff are there during the day and I was coming in late afternoon and leaving early morning I did have to look around and found the "hospitality closet" to grab a bar of soap though. Also, the combination didn't work until the 3rd or 4th time I tried it, but it may have just been the quickness of how I put in the code- eventually it worked and worked first time after that.

Jacopo (10/5): overall we had a very nice experience and we are planning to come back. ideal for a ski vacation at Okemo and in the sur - historical mansion, we loved the atmosphere the building annexed to the main house is colder with heating not running at full.

Verified traveler (6/5): - Check in was confusing. I had received emails with conflicting instructions. Tried to register using a kiosk just inside the door then finally gave up. Was able to access our room anyway. The TV system was complicated but was able to watch a rerun of a tv program. Too difficult for seniors who are not very tech savvy. Breakfast selection was dissapointing.
Verified traveler (8/5): - Very nice facility. Rooms are pretty basic. No amenities like a coffee maker or refrigerator or anything other than a couple of plastic cups. Coffee station in Main Hotel is quite a distance from the rooms in the back section. Also no cable, but smart TV for streaming was nice.
