Guest Reviews
- Moe9470 (8/5): Nice Quite Place for relaxing - Hotel location is really nice if you're looking for quietness and relaxing time, room is spacious and clean, bed is nice , room decoration is really nice, staff members are helpful and decent although not speaking good English but it's all around Thailand, rare to find good English speaking staff, hotel food is really tasty but comparing to other hotels are a bit overpriced. Breakfast is very basic and I see it poor, could be much better.
- Therese (10/5): Bästa hotellstranden. - Trevligt hotell ,slitet. Det var väldigt lungt när vi var där kanske 1/3 av bungalos bokade. Mycket personal som hade det lugnt. Fantastiskt strand både vid hög och lågvatten. Klart vatten. Skulle inte välja någon annan strand. Bra mat på resorten.
Kan absolut rekommendera.
- Rodolphe (10/5): Paradise - The Seaview bungalow was just top of the top. Quiet with almost private beach in front of the bungalow. Private big garden. Perfect for Honey Moon. Personal really charming and many excursion possibilities. We will come back.
- rainerstaub (8/5): quiet hideaway with private beach - if you expect a luxurious resort then you will be disappointed. but if you look for a quiet, peaceful and friendly place then you are at the right location. the mooban talay is a small resort on a private beach near the main pier of ko samed. friendly staff welcomes you with a warm smile. the rooms are spacious and very clean. the breakfast is simple but very good and the coffee shop that belongs to the hotel makes a good coffee.
if you like a nice thai dinner with a good fish or a very good tom kha gai then stay at the hotel and enjoy it on the resort’s beach restaurant. the food is well done and tasty.
if i had to comain about something its only that the hotel should better care about the alluvial trash. sometimes there ist to much around on the beach.
but thats complaining on a high level. because the mooban talay resort is a nice place to forget about business and hastle and noice in the city. i definitely come back.
- Daydream627417 (10/5): Amazing - We really enjoyed this resort.
Beautiful scenery and it’s relaxing, quite and the breakfast is tasty. The rooms where cleaned everyday which is a plus especially with all the sand.
Lastly the restaurant is affordable and the food is great!
- Phillip (10/5): Thailand trip - Very clean and great location
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Glad och hjälpsam personal. Lugnt och bra läge, återvänder gärna.
- cj2020202020 (4/5): False Advertising - Unfortunately, this resort did not meet our expectations. We booked a room expecting to have a quiet, clean, calm holiday and we were met with anything but. Our room was small, not extremely clean and had mold in the room. The resort restaurant food was mediocre and the beach was very crowded with boat loads of tourists who came in for the day. We cut our trip short and moved hotels as we were not satisfied.
- ddijk (10/5): Paradise! Bountyfeeling - We were very happy to stay here! It was beyond our expectations. We have rented a scooter and saw many other resorts which made us realise even more that we had the best! Bungalow is modern and not outdated but totally renovated. Shower is not really outside, but gives you an outside feeling. Good warm water. Great big soft bed. Private beach with comfortable beds, great pool and hammocks. Good breakfast and the restaurant is great with super food! Why is it not on Tripadvisor??? Very friendly service!
This place is a dream and we could not have wished for anything better!
- TequilaPepita (4/5): Never again! Very run down resort! - We recently stayed at this resort and it turned out to be a complete letdown. The filthy pier and the resort boat which was poorly maintained already gave me an idea of what to expect. Apart from the location which is good, the rest is truly dissappointing. After checking in a room which was basic and an outdoor shower with missing floor tiles, we proceeded to the pool with a timber deck that ought to be replaced entirely! Wooden planks are missing (see pictures), nails are pointing out etc..., a potential safety hazard. The worst had yet to come. We spent some time on the beach which was infested with sand flies and were bitten all over. A week later many of those bites are still itchy and infected. We also had to deal with mosquitoes in our room. A complete nightmare. The breakfast buffet is basic at best with the cheapest quality of bread juices, jam and butter you can find. Lunch and dinner dishes were acceptable. The staff whilst very kind were untrained and we could not get our food served for the 3 of us at the same time. I am sure they are far better resorts on the island offering better value for the money we paid. You have been warned!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was very quiet and relaxing. No tours on the beach and basically no one on the beach ! The food was excellent at the restaurant. It’s a great chill out place and romantic if so inclined. If you are looking for a busy nightlife the island is probably not for you.
- viveksheeld (2/5): Horrible and worthless - First of all getting here is a pain. There is only 1 transfer the hotel offers which is at 1pm from Ban Phe. If you reach after that, you are left to fend for yourself with the cheating and aggression of the touts at the filthy pier. Btw, be warned you have to carry your own luggage on the pier and onto the speedboat.
A beach landing, where the hotel staff were present, we proceeded to the resort.
Unkempt, poorly maintained and inefficient service are clearly visible. No one to attend at the reception, coffee shop and restaurant staff busy chatting among themselves.
Poor toiletries.
Mosquitoes.
Lack of cleanliness within public areas. The pathetic welcome drink they offered us, the glasses of which were still lying at the reception after 4 hours!
Poor quality of tea in room.
No lockers in room.
Light bulbs non functional.
Slow wi fi
When we said we wanted to check out after 1 night as were dissatisfied with the resort, they told us they would charge us for an extra night as we were booked for 3 nights. When we asked Booking.com through whom we had booked, they said it's the property's discretion and the resort says it required clearance from Booking.com. Pure harassment!
We requested an oil massage on arrival. They have NO SPA! They said a lady would come at 5 30 and give massage to me and my wife one after another. Then they informed that she was on the mainland and could come only at 6 45. When the therapist finally turned up, she said she didn't know oil massage and could give only Thai massage!
I have never given such a poor review to any property in the past but Mooban Talay deserves nothing better. Stay at your own risk!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - it was a nice stayover here, anytime again ;)
Ko Samed is such a beautiful island!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - RUSTIC YET CHARMING
VERY CLEAN
VERY FRIENDLY STAFF
ONLY THING I DID NOT LIKE WAS THAT THE POOL IS REALLY DIRTY LOOKING AND THE PADS USED FOR SUNBATHING ARE ATROCIOUS.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - ชายหาดที่สะอาด สงบ รมรื่น แวดล้อมไปด้วยต้นไม้ สดชื่นมากค่ะ
- sabinbkk (8/5): Lovely Resort - Our Beachfront Bungalow was stylish and newly renovated, the white sands beach in front of it is quiet and in the evening, you can have fantastic dinner there. Real recommendation!
The staff is very friendly.
Pool is ok for a dip.
- Arturas (8/5): Clean and comfy bungalows at island’s quiet side. - We have rented 3 bungalows for 3 night. It was clean and comfy. Wi-Fi unfortunately was working only in reception area and just. Very odd – kettles in the room, but no tea or coffee provided. We have tried to book tailor made service in advance, but because of lack of communication hotel lost around £700.00 revenue we spend at nearby beach restaurant celebrating one of our friend’s Wow’s Renewal. Hotel is on island’s quiet side, providing free transfer from/to mainland, walking distance to main pier and other amenities.
- Henk (8/5): - Beautiful rooms in a garden with pond, great beach and Nice food!
- Jenny (10/5): - Loved the accommodation, so close to the beach and pool. Also easy walking distance to other places on the island.
- Mark (10/5): - Hotel is fine, beach is clean, food is nice
Price versus quality very good
- st_phaneb443 (10/5): Amazing stay - Great stay at the resort, perfect gateaway from Bangkok, nice beach, great bungalow and outdoor shower!
The food is also amazing. The staff is great and welcoming.
Will definitly stay again!
Only thing about sandfly, take some spray to prevent being bitten - not here everyday but better to prevent
Thanks for amazing stay :)
- MoloyBiswas (10/5): Beautiful resort - This is a beautiful resort right on the Koh Samed beach. Food is really good and we had our dinner right on the beach. Though the dinner time was till 10 PM, we were allowed to stay there till 11:30. Staffs are very helpful and always responds with a smile.
- RajibBanik (10/5): A pleasent stay in Haven - We three couples stayed in the resort for three days. We all enjoyed a lot. The Resort, Rooms,Staffs,Cuisine are excellent. The staffed always try to satisfy their guest as much as possible. We all enjoyed a lot.. But the swimming pool is little bit small and the resort management should arrange some Entertainment after the sunset.
- gaurab6851 (10/5): Nice Bunglow - I liked the stay here and would focus on pros and cons:
Pros:
*Private small beach
*On other beaches u will find speed boats all time but this beach is quiet
*Nice private bungalow with cozy rooms
*Open shower
*staffs very nice specially morning and evening receptionist
*Nice food and restaurant
*Near to pier
Cons:
*No nightlife
*Difficult to climb and get down from bed due to platform
*swimming pool very small as most in koh samet
*No settle transport service as mostly do not have in ko samet
*Breakfast timing starts at 7:30 as minimum it should at 7 am
*Landscape requires some cut and maintenance
i found Chinese tourist all over thailand and in all hotels cannot help it.
- M9433FNmatthewb (6/5): Nice room - We stayed in a beech front bungalow Mimi good and didn't charge the earth beautiful beech.
I would say your quite far from the town so you need a moped.
Friendly helpful staff.
We stayed 2 days the jungle noise starts about 5:30am so be warned remember your ear plugs lol
My major issue was they state they have a private beech it should be called not so private we had 3 boat loads of Chinese tourists turn up then the chaos being they tried sitting on the sun beds even going into the swimming pool they were very load which unfortunately spoilt our romantic 2 days when they left it looked like a tsunami had hit with litter all over the beech.
In my opinion if that is a regular arrangement you might as well not opt for the private beech and get a room elsewhere for around half the price
- mkambhu (10/5): Jaja - Had an absolutely amazing time here. We love moobarn talay and i think this was our favourite resort in ko samet so far. Beautiful room, dining space and just a lovely relaxing experience. A big thanks to everyone who work there .
- bot306 (10/5): The best place in koh Sa-med - I'm visit 3 times in koh Sa-med but "Mooban Talay" is the best place, best food, comfortable room, good view, nice service. Crispy pork and shrimp porridge is very deliciuos.I will comeback again.^^ 🌊⛱️❤️
- noppaworns (10/5): Tangtwin - Such a nice place and wonderful food also all staff is very friendly.
The reccomend menu is seafood - very fresh.
The room is very clean and comfortable.
I and my friends spend 3 days and 2 nights with the good memories here.
- Toddy555 (10/5): Amazing private beach with nice view - Resort is located at the private beach that make me feel so private.
The room is very good, and clean.
I loved swimming pool that can enjoy the sea view while I'm swimming.
And I did some shot trip from resort to do some snorkeling that's also very nice too
I highly recommend this hotel again when I back to Koh Samet.
- Bowl-of-Special-K (6/5): Nice room and beach but lack of service - Located on the upper most point of Koh Samet, it’s nice to be away from the Main Street but not too far away with a scooter.
Their beach is nice and quiet, not too many boats and clean water.
The room was nice, we booked a beachfront bungalow for 2 nights. Big enough and bathroom good although they had turned the hot water off - we didn’t realize we needed to turn the water heater on ourselves.
Restaurant ok the beach was ok. Heavily tastes of MSG - so food tastes great but wouldn’t eat too much of it. Breakfast is straightforward, we only had it one out of 2 mornings and went to Jeps further down the coast for better scrambled eggs on toast and a cappuccino.
Unfortunately this resort is really lacking any service or friendliness. The staff seem to get the basics done overall, except one staff member in the restaurant - Ging or Gee (not sure)... was the rudest, most aggressive service staff we’ve come across in years spent living in asia, snatching 2 bottles of minere water out of our hands after we questioned the price of 2 small bottles: 100THB! Anyone should know you can buy these anywhere else in Thailand for 10 baht each. Her backchat and yelling and rude behaviour was appalling however there was no management around ever either. It’s obvious that experience left a bad taste in our mouth and we’ll never book this hotel again as the rooms are far overpriced for a 3 star rating, service and facilities available, unfortunately.
- 128bradleyp (8/5): A Nice Beach and Great Staff - I booked this hotel last minute before a holiday weekend in Thailand. I was happy with my booking. The location was great because it is off the main centre of town and very quiet. The hotel arranged a speedboat for us to arrive their pier. The fast boat ride from Nuan Thip Pier was only 10 minutes. I advise always taking the speedboat and not the slow boat. You will be glad you did. We rented a scooter to get around the island. The best way to get around but drive carefully. The hotel rooms are bungalows and very comfortable. The bed was amazing. We had breakfast included and it was very good. Nice selection on the menu. I was impressed by the coffee as it was surely needed. As comfortable as it was, the resort has seen better days. All of the wood furniture outside, the decks, beach chairs and anything exposed to the weather is nearly completely deteriorated. The entire resort needs a full restoration but I still liked its rustic character and quiet location. The staff were great, very pleasant and eager to please. They all waived us goodbye from the dock when we left. Koh Samet was on my bucket list for many years since I moved to Asia mid 90's. I think it would have been more like a paradise many years ago. Today, it is showing the stress of over population and heavy tourism. Waste management is a real issue as you will see (and smell). Garbage, discarded junk and sewerage stench are noticeable everywhere near the main centres. The government needs to step up and ensure it is maintained or it will be a real mess in the near term. All things considered, I will go back and will stay at Mooban Talay again.
- LuellaDeVilles (6/5): Lovely beach , staff very pleasant , relaxing: location not perfect - Please don’t be disheartened when you arrive outside your resort and it’s a dumping ground directly outside the hotel .
Inside the boundary is very pretty and they work day and night on the grounds.
The beach is beautifully calm , clean and quiet. We availed of their paddle boards and they have kayaks but only 3 paddles to the numerous paddle boards so only 3 at a time can be used .
Food was very nice ; mix of western and Chinese - Thai food. We are mainly western here as we had Thai food so much and here they did great pizzas , burgers etc... I know that’s awful but we’d had Thai 5 days in a row lunchtime and dinner so we were ready for it
Lovely staff , most pleasant; especially restaurant tall girl /boy and the Filipino girl at reception.
**********One or two small issues . Room was not cleaned our 2nd day so over 3 nights only cleaned one of the days . Also the shower outside ( nice idea ) but was really ineffectual. Very hard to wash hair as it basically sprinkled water and also
No hand towels in room at all
Oh also !!!!! Most important the curtains had quite a large gaps ( poss 4 or 5 inches ) as they were too short on both windows behind our bed : I went outside and looked through and you can see practically the whole room !!! God knows who could have been watching us in the night .
On the whole though, we were most relaxed here. We booked because of the pool but ended up not using it all all as the ants are in the deck and the loungers are just mats on the ground so you’d get eaten alive - but the pool did look good but the beach was so pleasant we didn’t feel the need to use the pool
- Adam (8/5): Relaxed - This was a very friendly hotel. The staff were excellent, the food was delicious and fairly priced and the location beautiful.
My only gripe would be that the bungalows were in need of a kick of paint.
That aside, if you're looking for a relaxing stay, you could do far worse. It's very quiet at night but you're 10 minutes in a taxi to the nightlife
- Chida and Zack (6/5): Over priced - Over priced hotel. Very far from everything. Breakfast menu very limited, first morning we asked for fruit and was told not available. Pool very small and the beach only looks nice but not clean.
- Pannakorn (6/5): Not so bad but not as 3-4 star. - Too quiet if you want to have some fun on the beach bar.
- Moonich (10/5): Nice hotel with great location and services - We stayed at Mooban Talay for 2 days/1 night. Everything here is awesome (foods, sports, hotel facilities and especially staff services).
IT'S HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Leave the crowds behind you! - A very personal service
- vikrant (4/5): AVERAGE HOTEL...WITH INTERESTING Shower. - Just above average. ...
nothing fancy.
- Wim (8/5): Holiday - Little dated but clean.Nice beach and easy transport to village
- Anonymous (10/5): Excellent. Romantic. - Excellent. Romantic.
