Guest Reviews
Rue calme, personnel agreable, chambre propre
- Verified traveler (8/5): Fine for a quick business trip! - Cute room but very small. Fine for a quick business trip. Those with lots of luggage may want to ask to stay on the ground floor as there's a twisty staircase and it didn't appear that the elevator was operational. There was also a sign that indicated you're not allowed to eat in the room, so keep that in mind.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Hôtel propre, personnel accueillant - Hôtel très propre, bien qu'un peu vieillot.
Personnel accueillant.
Accueil tres sympathique
- Jeff (6/5): The beds have problems. - The hotel was very clean. There are a few strange things like the elevator is on the stairs between floors but that wasn't that big of a deal. The morning staff was very helpful in giving us some answers to some questions about the area. Our major beef with the hotel was the quality of the bed. That was probably one of the worst beds I have ever slept on. At one point I actually slept on the floor because it felt better on my back than that bed. It took me almost 2 full days to recover from that night.
- marwanu2018 (10/5): Excellent - I had a good time there, the people are really very nice at the hotel, the position is very close to the metro the room is clean and included bathroom, great location awesome room comparing to the price
- William (8/5): A clean and comfortable hotel - A clean and comfortable hotel, a little old-fashioned in terms of decor but good value for Paris (well, almost Paris: express RER train is one stop to Place de la Nation, also good metro and bus links to main sights). I did not take the breakfast. Lift stops between floors with some steps up or down. Decent restaurant, cafes and baker's nearby in what is a residential area close to the large park that is the Bois de Vincennes.
- harpb2017 (10/5): Good rate good quality - I think the quality is so good for the rate i payed. Rooms are clean and very confortable. The people at the réception are very helpful and attentive. The location is like most of hôtels in the center of paris very good and very confortable to visit the city.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great staff, very friendly! Bed was very comfortable and the room was a nice size. The shower was very small and the toilet was next to the bed in a closet which wasn’t great but overall, it is a good hotel.
- manuel (10/5): Stage Insep - Stage à l’insep.
- Andrew1145 (8/5): Good value for the money - The room was clean and had a good size (it didn't feel too small for 2 people). The bed was a bit smaller than expected, but it was comfortable. The lack of soundproofing means that you can hear the people in the other rooms.
- clairesQ9316CP (10/5): Very nice stay. - We booked the hotel because it was the closest one to the Rhum festival. Hotel quite far away from the city centre but still close to a metro station. Very nice small hotel with a friendly staff. Quiet hotel. Nice and comfy room. Worth the stay !
- Eileen (10/5): Great access to the Metro, quiet and comfortable. - The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel, easy distance to Paris by Metro - There is always someone at the front desk and as far as I can tell, very friendly. It is comfortable and charming.
- camilla (6/5): Kleines, charmantes Hotel - Ganz freundliche Personal.
- audem406 (10/5): Great stay--lovely receptionist/manager - The room was neat and clean, the location great (trust me, I lived in nearby Nogent and I know what I'm talking about).
Most specifically, the people were lovely. Unfortunately, I cannot remember names, but I remember the experience. I had a small breakfast and a great talk with the young woman who was there at the time, while enjoying the cozy living room, books, and tv.
- FAMELART (10/5): Hôtel facile d accès,accueil parfait - Hôtel parfait pour notre week-end'
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- ruuthee (10/5): Great hotel - This is a small, attractive and comfortable hotel. It is in Vincennes which is a fairly upmarket and pretty part of east Paris. It is next to the lovely Bois De Vincennes. The hotel is conveniently near to the Metro. It is on a side street so not noisy.
The hotel is stylishly decorated and very clean. The beds are comfortable. The room we were in was fined for two of us and the armchair would convert into a single bed so we could have squeezed in a third person.
The breakfast was very simple and pretty expensive at €11.
We chose this hotel as we have friends in Vincennes but I would recommend it for general tourists to Paris as it is a short metro ride into 'the sights' and feels untouristy and real.
- Gilles (6/5): Bof - Accueil correcte. Confort literie correcte. Douche trop petite. Bouquet TV correcte.
- anabelamira77 (10/5): Very good experience! - It's a very nice hotel, beautiful and very calm, located in a very beautiful area. The room had everything we needed, was of a good size, confortable and had a nice view.
But the best thing about this hotel was the people. Our hosts were very nice and attentive. We loved it and we recommend it!
- alessandrasJ4270SA (10/5): Lovely hotel - This hotel is a true gem in quiet and lovely Vincennes. You can get the true french experience in Vincennes, without overly touristic aspects, while being at a very short and convenient distance by metro to Paris centre. It is also on the RER line. The hotel is very clean, nicely decorated, the stuff is friendly and speaks fluent english. My room had an excellent bathroom, modern and clean. The carpet in the room was superb. I usually cannot stand carpets in hotels (dusty, dirty, etc...), but this one really made me want to walk around barefoot. It is a small hotel, so you can hear from time to time voices and steps from other guests, but it tends to be very quiet. At walking distance from the hotel, you can find a lovely pedestrian district full of high quality shops where to buy delicious french food or go on a fancy shopping spree.
- Eugene (4/5): Did the Job - Let us acclimate just flying from Los Angeles
Tres agreeable sejour.
- samia (10/5): What a nice surprise! - Highly recommend this hotel. I stayed there for the Paris half marathon and the hotel was walking distance from the start and finish line. The hotel staff was very professional and fully bilingual in French and English. Although my room was small, it's was very comfortable, warm and clean. The hotel is located on a quiet street but yet in walking distance to the metro.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice quiet hotel out of the hustle and bustle! - Room was small but comfortable and had everything needed. It's not a fussy hotel - but it's quiet and very convenient location to the park and Chateau de Vincennes. Easy access to trains that go to all the sites of Paris. I would recommend to anyone looking for a quieter suburb of Paris!
- gregory (6/5): ouais bof, y a mieux - chambre petite vieillote, personnellement j'éviterai pour les prochaines fois
- yk2115 (6/5): Ok room, huge bathroom - This hotel is a little more older looking than what the pictures suggest. My room was tiny (two twin beds) but the bathroom was huge! [the closet is in the bathroom - is this common in Parisian hotels?]. Though really, they need to put a shower curtain for the tub. Also, you can hear everything around you when you are in your room so if you are a light sleeper, this could be a tad bit hard to sleep through the hours of 11-2AM when guests are still returning. The staff is friendly and keep the rooms and hotel area very clean. I thought this was a good price though and very close to the 1 line which takes you to the Louvre in 30 minutes. Vincennes streets can be quiet though in the night so I would get to my room by 9.30 PM since I was a solo traveller. Good supermarkets nearby if you just want a good, cheap sandwich for dinner.
- 131mickyw (8/5): Very good hotel in vincennes - We have just spent 4 days in The Donjon and our experience was extremely positive. The hotel is very clean, the room we had was light and airy and extremely quiet. The staff were helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.Vincennes has much to offer and is on an excellent metro line.We would definitely come again.
- Hallonorn (6/5): Funky hotel in attractive Vincennes - Vincennes is a good place to stay when visiting Paris, easy access to city center with the Metro. The Donjon hotel has a clean feel to the rooms. There was unfortunately plenty of noise from the little back street through the night. The walls and door of the hotel appear to completely lack insulation or sound-proofing. Shower curtain will act as harassing Parisian, clinging to your body uninvited. If you bring your cat, don't try to swing it around in the small rooms. If you bring your car, forget about parking outside of public for-pay garages (€30/day).
- uksmartman (8/5): Paris Marathon Weekend Visit - This was our second visit to Paris for the marathon in 2 years, and the second time at the Hotel Donjon Vincennes, which pretty much says it all. If you want a perfect, luxury, 21st century experience in the beautiful Vincennes quarter then go book a Holiday Inn. If you want a warm engaging Parisian hotel, with bucket loads of charm, style and helpful staff, then this is the one. Located in one of a number of cherry blossom lined avenues leading from the striking Chateau Vincennes(worth a walk round just to see the gargoyles), it's quiet and welcoming. Clean and tidy, the rooms are small but this is an old city hotel so that's normal. They have a separate apartment which is good if you want somewhere for you and your support team to meet as it's a lot bigger.
TIP: Don't have breakfast in the hotel (sorry guys), nothing to do with the quality, it's just there's a Pauls in the town centre on the Vincennes high street which is a lovely place to start your day.
Vincennes? what can I say? lots of typically Parisian bars, restaurants and some great independent shops including handmade chocolate, wine, cheese, shoes etc. and a couple of supermarkets for the essentials. It's close to the metro so easy access to central Paris, Disneyland and the chateau for a gentle stroll in the evening sun and to drink in the atmosphere. If you've ever spent time in a European city you'll understand the joy of an evening's promenading or people watching with a glass of wine.
So if that sounds like the kind of thing you enjoy give the Vincennes quarter a go, and stay at the Hotel Donjon, we loved it, hope you do too.
TIP: There's a bar in the town centre on the opposite corner to Paul's, great for just sitting and watching, lovely beer too! And there's a brasserie opposite the chateau, with good basic food and really nice waiters(they were there both years we visited).
- susansU1152UZ (10/5): Very nice and clean - Spent 5 nights here in Paris. Vincennes is a small suburb and the hotel is in a quiet residential area. The chateau is interesting nearby as is the large park/forest. My son and I walked a lot around it after a day in Paris. Metro and RER stations a few blocks away. Hotel is very clean and breakfast was convenient and good Staff was very polite and helped me with my French. Would definitely recommend hotel donjon.
- Yasminka21 (2/5): Rudeness personified - avoid! - I usually find tripadvisor a very useful tool but in the case of this hotel it was completely misleading. My experience of the hotel was nothing like the majority of reviews of this hotel so I am very disappointed. I booked the hotel via hotels.com and was given a price for my stay. When I was about to check out, the hotel tried to charge me 16 euros more than the price given. When I pointed out that they had made an error in the room rate for one night which increased the price, I received a very rude email back from the Hotel Manager that was bordering on being abusive and threatening! The walls in the hotel are paper thin so I could hear everything from the room next door from the TV noise, snoring and conversations. Luckily my neighbours went to bed at midnight so I managed to get some sleep otherwise I would not have managed to get any sleep during my 3-day trip. The reception keeps the door locked and so sometimes I had to wait several minutes outside the front door before being let in. The wifi did not work. I appreciate it is a budget hotel in the outskirts of town but if you cannot get any sleep in the hotel, then what is the point of using it? I have never had such a bad experience in a hotel and the reaction I got when I pointed out the error is amazing. I will attach a photp of the email I received so that others can judge if this hotel is worth the hassle or not
- Melc060279 (10/5): Excellent hotel! - Loved our trip to Paris, and loved staying at this reasonably-priced, English-speaking hotel. Right on the 1 Metro line, it was perfect. Great, quiet hotel in a locals neighborhood with nice restaurants close by. Also down the street from the Vincennes Castle. Highly recommended for those wanting to travel on a budget but not sacrifice convenience or comfort.
- ericz382 (8/5): Great place with very helpful staff - Very nice hotel - right in the neighborhood. Extremely convenient to metro, a small food market, and restaurants. Gwen at the front desk was phenomenal - she spoke great English, made sure our breakfast was to our liking, and answered all questions we needed to make Vincennes a great stay for us !
- RoosterfishWiehl (10/5): Recommendable accomodation with friendly personnel - We have spent our years end in this small and simple but quiet and proper hotel with very friendly personnel. Also the breakfas is to be mentioned here, which is a lot above the standard of hotels of this range.
Location is easy to reach with the metro and the personnel of the hotel is always really helpful also with regard to recommendations for sight seeing, dinners etc.
Roosterfish, Wiehl
- pgwLondon (8/5): you will like Vincennes - We enjoyed our short stay in this small hotel in the Paris suburb of Vincennes. It is very easy to get to on the metro and is in a really nice area. Just a short walk from here is the large Bois de Vincennes and also the mighty Chateau. The town itself has lots of choice of restaurants and has a nice community feel to it- somewhere away from touristy central Paris. I would think it probably idyllic in the warmer months. Anyway the hotel is warm, clean and friendly. If you are disturbed by noises from the corridors and other rooms, then it is probably not for you, but a good helping of vin rouge in the local restaurant means you will either not hear or not care!
We found breakfast here convenient and the service very friendly and helpful, but I epect there are many choices nearby.
- ezinneu (10/5): Again, this hotel is a winner! - This is my second review for this hotel and again, I have nothing but positive comments to make. The location in Vincennes is very quiet, and is in a residential sort of neighborhood. The rooms are smartly made up and are average in size. Customer service is exceptional, and this is probably because it is a family operated hotel and the owners care about the service they provide. After a hectic day of visiting attractions in Paris, returning to the hotel was a much needed respite because of the serene location. A short 8 minute walk from the metro, it provides very easy access to all of Paris. It is also a 7 minute walk to the Chateau de Vincennes, and a 10 minute walk to the Parc de Vincennes, all very nice attractions to visit with less crowds than are typical in Paris. My second visit only reaffirmed my decision that this is one of the best places to stay while in Paris.
- lavenderbloom (8/5): sweet - tiny cosy little hotel with the most amazing atmosphere. gives you something to giggle about when you realize the location of the lifts - a must see! clean and neat with friendly staff. we were there for a very short stay but the linen was changed and it was great! we asked for a room with a bath - and the bath was tiny :) the surroundings is absolutely amazing and I could not get enough of this amazing location. here it is LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! close to subway, no noise, great restaurants, wonderful area to get 'lost' in. the people were great and full of smiles. thank you!
