Guest Reviews
- Loredana (10/5): -
- Ingrid (10/5): - Emplacement, petit déjeuner au top, facilité de stationnement, personnel adorable.
- Sally (7/5): We did not want to be located in extension on 3rd floor - Room clean and very nice except cups too small We are older people and we were put on top floor of the extension. We should have been asked/told.
- Catherine (6/5): Mattress and pillows were very uncomfortable and need replaced (room 4) Beautifully decorated - Beautiful decor. Central location Really uncomfortable bed and lumpy pillows. Room poorly laid out. No mirror above dressing table. The mirror was opposite the bed. No mini fridge. Plumbing not great (smelly drains). Breakfast was £17pp extra. Room cost was already expensive.
Paid parking expensive. Spaces too small. Tried to charge us twice for parking.
We weren’t asked how our stay was on checkout.
- Barbara (8/5): -
- Jackie (9/5): Highly recommend! - Nice big room, friendly staff, breakfast was great! Was a little hard to figure out where the reception office was, but after asking, they pointed us in the right direction.
- Chloë (9/5): Really good - Excellent location, really short walk to the beach and to bars / restaurants in Southsea.
Rooms comfortable. Breakfast was good. Staff were all excellent and very helpful throughout. On street parking which was a bit limited and on narrow streets so if you have a larger car it may be worth paying for the gated parking.
Rooms aren’t particularly sound proof - we could hear the TV and snoring from the next room!
- Rob (10/5): - Very local and very nice - warm welcome
- Carla (9/5): - Staff were very friendly. The property was clean and comfortable. Great location.
- Alison (9/5): -
- Mary (7/5): -
- Jillian (6/5): - The breakfast was good and the size of the room was great. Furniture added to the room is lovely, decorated as pictured. The parking, even though we paid for gated parking which was supplied trying to drag luggage to the room was a nuisance (on the day we checked in the guy on reception did help, however that may not always be the case.) Dragging luggage upstairs, again too much when travelling internationally. If there is a warning for this I missed it.
Towels and linen on beds are extremely dated and poor quality.
- Michelle (9/5): Lovely break in Portsmouth - The breakfast was delicious and freshly cooked. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The room was lovely and a good size. We managed to park right outside in the street. Comfortable bed and nice chairs in the room. Buses to town very convenient. On arrival from the outside it didn’t look great and we had to cross the road in rain for breakfast as we were in the rooms were on other side of the road.
- Stephen (2/5): It was a Terrace House. Not a 'Hotel. It was Cold, Miserable and an awful breakfast. - Very little The description. Somerset House Hotel is NOT a hotel! It is at best a bed and breakfast. It was cramped, cold and was just a converted terrace house. The stove didn't work in the kitchen so all we got at breakfast was a pathetic, very small bowl of cereals, with a pot of coffee that had only been shown a coffee bean. The car parking I booked was useless and I had to park on the street, This was despite contacting the 'hotel' and making sure secure parking was available as my car was an expensive sports car that I did not want damaged.
- Lady Deborah (10/5): Perfect place for the beach and walks the hotel was in a great location and the staff were amazing - This hotel had everything we needed and in a great location
- Linda (9/5): - Our room was lovely and spacious, and the reception lady was very welcoming and hard working
- Jason (8/5): -
- Cathy (10/5): Can highly recommend, and will definitely be back. - Great location! Breakfast was fabulous! Parking was available but very small spaces! Struggled to fit my car in!
- Sarah (10/5): One night stay to meet up with friends and attend a concert in the Wedgwood Rooms - Lovely large room - although on the ground floor facing a residential road it was very quiet. The bed was comfortable and the room at a good temperature. The breakfast was fantastic and the waiting staff couldn’t have done more to help. Nothing
- Mark (9/5): Overall A Good Stay. - Great stop off hotel when disembarking from our ferry from Spain. We enjoyed our deluxe room (Room 6 in Somerset House) which was nicely decorated and clean. Breakfast was great quality and nice to be able to have our dog with us in the dining room. Staff we encountered were lovely.
We would stay again. The bathroom tiles in the shower need a good deep clean - some signs of mould spots, especially around the window and on the ceiling.
The bathroom towels were a little threadbare.
On arrival the secure parking gate didn't shut and had to be closed manually by the staff. We were told it was broken but was being repaired. The gate was open again early the following morning. I've no objection to paying for secure parking, but this wasn't secure parking.
- Carol (9/5): Excellent hotel in a great location, perfect for what we wanted. - We were upgraded to the sister hotel, Florence. The room was lovely, very spacious with a great shower and a comfy bed. Our only disappointment was that the room was very hot overnight - this is a common problem with hotels, especially older buildings.
- Lynette Jennifer (9/5): -
- Robert (9/5): - Breakfast not much choice if you stay for a few night did not enjoy every day cooked breakfast
- gary stickland (8/5): Comfortable stay in Southsea hotel - Large room that was well decorated and clean. Comfortable bed and generous bathroom. The room was a little impersonal. Ould have done with a few homely touches.
- Keith Robert (8/5): Hotel in good position for all Portsmouth and Southsea has to offer. - Good breakfast and nice room.
- Christine (8/5): - Tucked in close to seaside Breakfast not included. Small room (no place for suitcases. Shower was Luke warm.
- Laureen (9/5): Great stay. Very large room. Would recommend. - Noise from other rooms
- SC (7/5): -
- Craig (10/5): -
- Sally (8/5): A really great find, perfect location, would stay again on the lower floors with our dog - The breakfast was excellent, lots of choice on the menu, the room was nicely presented The bed was quite soft
- Karen (10/5): Ideal hotel for a visit to Portsmouth and Southsea - We came to see the silhouettes at Fort Nelson and chose this hotel for its location in Southsea as it was close to the beach and shopping at Gunwharf Quays. Hotel was beautifully decorated, very quiet location and we had an excellent breakfast! Staff were fantastic
- Manfred (10/5): Schönes Hotel in top Lage - Lage top, Frühstück super, sehr freundlich --
- Mark (10/5): - Upgraded our room as we were staying for 7 nights. Picture shown of the sea from the hotel is not true, you can not see the sea from the hotel at all.
- Susan (10/5): Good clean quiet hotel with lovely breakfast - Relaxing very quiet and comfortable To wasn’t big enough
- stephen (10/5): - Friendly staff who very helpful and supportive.
Great location and excellent service.
- Ann (10/5): Very good location and beautiful area - The location & facilities were excellent the meals were a little expensive but for the quality very good Paying extra to park …. but the location was near the seafront and all parking scarce
- Claudia (8/5): Lovely stay in a great location. - Very friendly and helpful staff. Great location. Gluten-free options in the restaurant. Parking is very limited and tight. Access road is very narrow.
- Anna (10/5): - Great location, breakfast was excellent and staff very friendly The secure carpark provided by the hotel could be difficult to navigate entry and exit due to residential car street parking .
- jan (7/5): Prima locatie voor een tussenstop. Geen hoge verwachtingen hebben. - Verdeeld over meerdere locaties. Wij hadden kamer op de bovenste etage. Douchen in de badkuip. Ook geen stang om douche kop te bevestigen.
- JK1Gloucestershire (8/5): Nice stay - Arrived at 2pm and room wasn't available until check in time 3pm.Had pre-booked parking for £10,room was spacious and clean. Very quiet.
If staying at Somerset house, please be aware that this part of the hotel is a separate annex to where you have breakfast.
Breakfast was great, huge choice.
- Ann (8/5): -
- guy (8/5): You get what you expect - An older classic hotel in a quieter part of town. The room and bathroom were in good condition. The hotel is 15 minute walk to a lot of food options.
- Lisa (10/5): Solo visit pre-cruise - From check in to my room to breakfasts and dinners my expectations were exceeded. Of most importance were the staff. Everyone I interacted with was not only welcoming but exceptionally kind & helpful. Highly recommend. Having to leave.
- Tanja (9/5): -
- Jenny (10/5): Interesting place for a very good night's stay in Portsmouth - The room was nice and roomy and we had a very comfortable night. Breakfast was excellent and the location is great, very close to Southsea seafront. I didn't particularly like the evening meal I had at the Garden restaurant, which was also quite pricey. As a B&B the place was an excellent choice though.
- Diane (8/5): Overall an excellent hotel with good facilities. Unfortunate location on narrow street. - Cleanliness and comfort Parking bays a little tight
- Carter (8/5): really great 2 nights - lovely breakfast, staff really nice bigger tv in the room
- roger (8/5): - Comfy beds Location of the reception
- Patrick (8/5): - Food Converted attic room for an elderly couple with no lift
- Cristina (9/5): -
- Melisa (7/5): -
- Charlotte (9/5): Superb -
- Charla (3/5): Nice property and location, terrible room. - The location was ideal. Away from the crowds at Gunwharf Quay, but close to the coast and restaurants. We were given a room in an attic. It was hot and open windows and a fan didn’t help. Carrying our bags for an 18-day trip was very difficult up the narrow, tiny, 3 flights of stairs.
- Claire (8/5): Very good -
- Marylen (9/5): Superb -
- Sheila (10/5): Superb - Lovely comfortable large room
Allocated parking
Good bar and breakfast
Would definitely stay again
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Regina (10/5): Wonderful stay at a Hotel with a difference who definitely put customer satisfaction as a priority. - We arrived off the evening ferry at Portsmouth so were shattered. Had a drink in the bar before turning in for the night. Lovely atmosphere in the garden. Our King size room and en suite was spectacular in a beautiful Victorian house across the road from the main reception. After a much needed sleep went across the road to the restaurant/garden for a wonderful breakfast. So much choice!! Location was great. Took the dog for a run in gardens 5 minutes away before we checked out. Would definitely recommend booking a parking slot as it is limited. We just managed to get our camper van in the booked space but were more than happy as nowhere else nearby. Would definitely book again. Nothing!
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andy (9/5): Superb - Food, friendly service N/a
- Sean (6/5): Pleasant -
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Richard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin-john (10/5): Exceptional - The property was beautiful and spacious with lots of natural light. Some of the furnishings looked a little worn in places
- Sharon (7/5): Good...but could have been better. - The very helpful staff, the location, the food all good. Liked the quirkiness of the set up.
Would come again .... The room was very basic although described as Executive. The tiniest wardrobe both in width and depth...clothes had to hang at an angle.
Lack of drawers..only 3 small ones.. and surfaces to put anything. There was a very pretty console table but would have been much better if it was a chest of drawers. Nowhere for a woman to put face products etc.
The bathroom extractor fan was insufficient. The bathroom felt constantly damp. The towels never dried and even the toilet roll felt dampish.
Could be quite noisy too with doors banging.
Apart from all this we did have an enjoyable stay and would return.
- Paulina (9/5): Amazing time - Amazing location, very friendly staff, clean and big room, highly recommended 👌 Nothing, everything was as we expected.
- Joseph (9/5): Superb -
- Davies (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (7/5): Ok with nice staff. - Nice room The room was over the road.the menu was very small and if I had known in advance would have eaten elsewhere.
- Angela (9/5): Lovely stay - Room was lovely and enormous, tons of space, wonderful shower, also tons of room. Parking straight opposite hotel. Staff really friendly and helpful. Very accommodating in request to change dates. Breakfast was great, although it did get very busy around 9am. Dinner also nice. Really close to restaurants and seafront.
- Jules (9/5): Great location, pet friendly well appointed luxury boutique hotel with secure parking - The hotel was pet friendly which was our reason for staying however we didnt feel that we were compromising on quality because we had a dog! The rooms and restaurant area were very well appointed. The staff went out of their way to be accommodating. The pre arranged secure parking was exactly that.; secure, safe and reasonably priced. There were allocated spaces with the guest name on.
It was a pre-ferry overnight stop so no opportunity to try the restaurant. The seafront and promenade for walking were a stones throw away but the hotel was set one back from the main street so it was peaceful and quiet. Just 15 mins drive from Portsmouth ferry terminal. nothing
- Katherine (9/5): Superb -
- Tony (8/5): Very good - Lovely room, friendly professional staff, clean room with good shower. Good quality breakfast.
Thanks for a great 3 night stay. I am 6'4,our room was on the top floor, so low ceiling hight.
Banged my head 3 times, I did learn eventually haha 😄.
- Jackie (5/5): Passable -
- Julie (7/5): Good - Some additional room amenities such as tissues, shower cap, pen and notepaper would have been handy. Also central heating only operated between 7-9pm.
- Julie (10/5): A comfortable hotel in an excellent position, close to the beach, restaurants and amenities. - A lovely quiet room which was of a good size. The bed was extremely comfortable. Noisy neighbours upstairs coming in at 3am.
- Peter (8/5): Very good - problem with overflowing drain in shower
- Jayni (9/5): Superb -
- Julia (10/5): Great stay, will be back - Lovely room and breakfast
- Matthew (8/5): Very good - Easy check in and parking permit provided. Lovely clean room in an excellent location
- Emma (2/5): Stay anywhere else, unbelievably poor - Nothing redeeming The room was very small and stuffy. The shower base was cracked, there was mold around the tiles. Even the soap dispensers were dirty.
Walked to the local shops and frankly didn’t feel safe, the area is very rough. Had paid £30 extra for ‘secure parking’ - there was a pedestrian gate access with no locks and a press button exit which completely negated any ‘security’.
We left after about 4 hours and went to a Premier Inn instead which was much better. They refused any refund, not even the parking.
- Terence (9/5): Superb -
- Josephine (10/5): Wonderful - Everything was good
- JackieF334455 (8/5): Mostly good - Mostly good. Pleasant room (upgraded but couldn’t tell what was better?) but bed a bit soft and towels not the fluffiest. Arranged parking was great. Lovely breakfast, and reception really helpful but dinner and environment in sister hotel bar (Florence) underwhelming.
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Habib (9/5): Superb -
- Christine (9/5): Superb -
- Sez (9/5): Perfect. - Lovely check in staff and such a comfy room Nothing
- Philippe (5/5): Very disappointed. Our room not as expected. Parking a big problem. Would not return. - Breakfast was okay Our room was very small. Our friends who came with us had a lovely big room, but we both paid the same money!
- Christian (8/5): Very good -
- Kathryn (7/5): Clean and comfortable. Accommodation split between various buildings so very disjointed and room much smaller than appea - Funky wallpapers! The way the ‘Hotel’ was split up between lots of houses, it didn’t feel like a hotel with its own facilities eg a bar - it was all very disjointed. Also the room was a LOT smaller than it looked in the pictures on the website.
- Deborah (7/5): The staff very friendly fooled lovely location good but not as described on internet - Staff and breakfast were really good The room above you could hear everything and room was cold not as expected for a king size luxury boutique room
- Q1594GWrachelg (10/5): What a wonderful hotel!! - What a lovely hotel! We only stayed here 1 night but really impressed.
The staff are all so lovely and welcoming. Extremely dog friendly, my boy had the best time.
Stayed in a family room and it was big, extremely clean and it had everything we needed. The bed was so comfy!
We had breakfast here the following morning and really glad we did and it was lovely with plenty of choice.
We will be coming back here in summer for longer and we can’t wait.
- Maryrose (7/5): Good -
- Kerrie (10/5): Couldn’t have asked for better service. Staff helpful friendly and would definitely come back again - The staff were amazing and the room was lovely There was nothing I didn’t like
- T (8/5): Comfy stay. - Staff were friendly. Room was comfortable. Our room was next to the stairs, which were quite noisy when people went up and down.
- Kathryn (9/5): Superb -
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Darryl (10/5): Exceptional - We love stopping here, it’s beautiful and all the staff are super friendly, looking forward to my next stay and the fantastic breakfast
- R (10/5): Fab - Very clean, comfortable hotel. Delicious meal and breakfast. Friendly staff.
