- christopher (5/5): Change has not been for the better. - The rooms are still good although they have taken away some of the character of the Gotham. Cannot understand why the new owners renamed and changed a winning formula. Ego probably and a lack of imagination. A lack of control of other guests who had no respect for fellow guests. The old regime would have prevented this and dealt with this. All of the humour and clever quirks to maintain its uniqueness have gone. The original branding is watered down as was the concentrated juice (used to be freshly squeezed). A series of small cost savings that take the shine off of what was a unique and high quality product. All of the staff who looked after me have gone, nice enough people have replaced them, but the personal service has gone replaced by a less edgy corporate feel. Still a decent hotel, just won’t look forward to staying there anymore.
- griffin (10/5): Amazing time would definitely comeback - The day we arrived at The Rex the staff in the front entrance was so helpful and remembered my name when coming and going i got warm greetings and were impressed that they remembered my name . The staff was also so polite throughout the hotel and happy to help. The staff made you feel important and treated us like royalty and we had a wonderful time at the Rex hotel . Everything was amazing

Someone had clearly also been in our room and left a receipt on the floor as evidence 🙄no turn down service as requested and no where near a 5* experience. Breakfast was good but left waiting for over half an hour. Should of got the train home and not bothered. Tried contacting to complain and no response. Staff at check in and out lovely but that was the only plus side.

- Claire (7/5): Sadly disappointing 50th birthday stay - Great location, lovely building, friendly and helpful staff Property looks tired inside, needs some attention. Room was disappointing - sheets far too small for the bed so ended up sleeping on a plasticy mattress protecter as the sheet kept moving. Duvet too thick and air con cold/ dry to counteract so we both had a terrible nights sleep. Poor for the price and expectation of the hotel

- David (10/5): Best Hotel EVER - Stayed in the inner sanctum., Didsbury Suite. Room was very romantic. A single red rose was left one the bed and same chocolate covered strawberry’s for our arrival. Mini bar was fully stocked up with drinks, some snacks, and a few NSFW goodies I cannot mention in this review 😊. Room was amazing bed was large, lots very comfortable seating. Water fall shower was really good. Showe caps towels slippers and robes all provided. Roof top bar had an amazing view with table service and very friendly staff. Breakfast was delicious. Valet parking was expensive for where I come from but reasonable cost for Manchester. Someone met me at the door on arrival and took keys to park my car helping my stay be very stress free. Car was then waiting for me right outside the front door when I checked out. Just to be clear there is nothing I did not like about this hotel or my stay. Breakfast took a while to come and I thought I was going to be late for check out, however the staff in the restaurant arranged for and extra hour grace for late checkout which turned a negative into a fantastic positive. Had to go up to 6th floor to check in before going back down to room on 2nd floor which at first seemed like an inconvenience but later I realised this was also a good thing because the bar and restaurant are on the 6th floor so I knew exactly where they were when I wanted to find them later.

- Christopher (5/5): Far better choices elsewhere - The room itself - the bank manager’s suite - was an impressive space if in need of a refresh. The staff were mostly great. Location wise very good - except the noise detailed below. The bank managers suite we stayed in was directly above the Lucky Cat restaurant which has a DJ, at least on a weekend, and is exceptionally loud with zero soundproofing in the room to compensate. The noise from below went on until midnight. Any other floor and it probably would have been fine, but putting premium rooms in the worst location is certainly a choice. There were other issues too. The room was a bit tired - curtains not fully attached to the rails leaving gaps, lights in the wardrobe not turning off, hard uncomfortable beds, scuffs and rust stains in the bathroom, turn down service promised but not carried out. This is in the top category room so no idea what the others are like. The check in was fairly painful - staff didn’t know restaurant opening times or how to take a security deposit, we’d paid for breakfast but were almost charged until queried because the staff didn’t understand the system. The breakfast itself was bland and especially disappointing given it took over 30 mins to arrive despite a mostly empty dining room. Only soy as an alternative milk was offered but they sent cow’s milk even when soy was requested. The toast was bread that had maybe been in the same room as a toaster at some point. Yes I’m being picky but these are basic things that I’d expect any hotel to get right, so when somewhere at this price point falls short it’s especially noticeable.

- MATTHEW (10/5): Excellent for me. - As I have recorded, everything went well. I have given top marks so needn't add more I think. I was pleased by my choice which was ideal for my visit to the John Rylands Library with the London Travellers Club and Lunch with the group at thre St Ja,es's Club in Manchester which is exactly opposite the hotel, and so ideal. I was able to walk everywhere, alkthough I need a strick sometimes. I wouldn't sayt I didn't like the carpet in my room but I would say just one small note, please - I did fall over because I have poor eyesight and coming in to the room [110] I didn't notice with the rather "busy" carpet zigzag pattern that there was a drop of two steps as I moved towards the window end near the bed. It was unlikely a person with not so good sight, and perhaps without all the lights on, would notice the drop because the zig zag pattern distracts the eye into thinking the floor is flat all through to the bed. Perhaps a Note to people if poor sighted ? Or maybe a slight adjustment to highlight where the steps are, without spoiling the aesthetics ?

Unfortunately, the room was a massive let down. Room: Paid £420, ish and it was a small room, about size of a Premier Inn room. The USP, Feature wall, was broken, 1 x can of water, ordered prosecco to the room before arrival and it was not in the room, 2 x tea bags and 4 sachets of sugar. This is not a 5 star [or even 4 star] hotel.
- Jared (7/5): A good stay but if we stayed again id definitely like a different room, we stayed in an Exec Room - Really nice hotel with lovely staff especially in check in and in both restaurants. Food was great and the roof terrace was lovely as was a sunny day and not to busy. The room was ok not as spacious or well planned as we would have expected and not really value for moneys. Was badly designed leaving little room for moving about and sofas weren't great. Bed and pillows weren't the comfiest either tbh.

- closimpson115 (6/5): Lacked From Previous Stays - Hotel Gotham used to be our place of choice to stay in Manchester du to its great location, however our recent stay definitely didn't live up to previous high standards that had been set. The doormen were extremely helpful like always, took our car for valet parking and had it ready and waiting when we asked before departure - couldn't fault. Check in was quick and easy but do note the hotel takes an additional £100 at check in as a hold. This seems to be the norm now in most places. The rooms had not changed but were exceedingly hot even with air conditioning. There was also no bar menu for prices in our room. We went for drinks in the rooftop bar and the service was appalling...we found a table which hadn't been cleared so sat down as it was the only one available - the table still hadn't been cleared of the previous drinks until we left over an hour later! Table service was non existent, so we fetched our own drinks which were not quick. A 12.5% SERVICE CHARGE HAD BEEN ADDED TO ALL DRINKS BILLS... Im more than happy to tip where I think it's due. However, in this case it certainly wasn't due. You were not informed of this added charge and just handed the card machine to pay at the bar. Customers should always be informed of this and should be given option to remove it they see fit. I'm still a fir believer, as many are that tips should be awarded when you see fit...Not just as standard. Hot breakfast was mediocre but the continental section was nice. The hotel has also not refunded the £100 to our card and deducted car parking from the wrong room of our party even though it had not been put on either bill. Unfortunately, from previous stay it has really gone down hill and we will be looking for somewhere new to stay in future.

- Wade (10/5): Very relaxing and great atmosphere, wish I stayed longer - Very clean and in a super convenient location. The bathrooms are amazing very spacious and the shower is heavenly, great bar area upstairs with nice views, beds are very comfy and the staff are super helpful. Zero complaints can’t fault the place.

- katebB6790CE (6/5): Disappointing stay. - This was our first stay at the Gotham and we have a very mixed view of our stay! My partner had ordered Prosecco in the room and disappointingly this was not there when we arrived. We booked the inner sanctum suite which we felt let down by. It was smaller than we expected and the wonderwall was broken and had a burnt image on the screen so you could barely see the image that was supposed to be on it. Looking at reviews this was flagged 5 months ago and still isn’t fixed. Room amenities poor considering this room cost £420 a night - there were 2 tea bags, one can of water and no communication as to what was complimentary- not even a basic price list for the mini bar. The water situation however was resolved quickly by reception staff. Afternoon tea was nice, but expensive and the rooftop bar certainly redeemed some of the earlier disappointment that we felt. The hotel had been told it was my birthday yet this was not acknowledged at any point. Can’t comment on breakfast as we didn’t have it. Location excellent perfect for shops and nightlife. Watch out for service charges - every bottle of wine we had included a service charge! on checkout we were just ‘told’ what we owed and had to ask to see a breakdown on our bill. We asked for the service charge to them be removed! Felt really underhanded. Compared to the midland and Edwardian this hotel is nowhere near a 5 star!
