Guest Reviews
- Hayley (6/5): Was okay for a night stop over but probably more suitable for multiple days to experience all facilities. - Affordable for a one night stay. Offered a late airport collection for an additional cost. The bin had not been emptied before our stay.
- Roxana (10/5): -
- Harri (10/5): 10 days - This family hostel is so nice. The stuff is really nice and the son,Carlos speaks a fluent english and ready to help with everything.
He can take you to around jungle or city tour and pick up from airport etc.
The hostel is located at quiet street where you can walk to the center, supermarket or pick up a mototaxi (tuktuk/ 1e / 4s) everywhere on town.
You have nice shared cooking place and a big fridge where you can keep your stuff.
Third floor there is a chilling place with few hammocks.
Iquitos is quite noise because of the mototaxis but this place is quiet.
We stayed there for 10 days and next time i would there again. There is nothing bad to say about this place.
- Libros (9/5): -
- Kamal (7/5): Amazing - Nice n tidy n the host was very friendly

- Gregory Joshua (10/5): Highly recommended - Host, Carlos was very friendly & gave good tips on the slow boat. The room was very comfortable & clean.
AC and water heater was working well!
Highly recommend this hostel.
Location is slightly off centre but it's still walkable.
- Kirsten (10/5): Exceptional - Staff were excellent and helped arrange onward travel tickets. Also very helpful with providing local information on transport and prices.
- Eszter (8/5): Very good - Lovely hostel, great breakfast. Location was not the greatest, didn't feel super safe wondering alone. I recommend to take a taxi or tuktuk instead of walking.
- Kristoffer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Isabel (10/5): Beyond expectation! Excellent experience. - The hotel is very clean and well maintained, staff is polite and friendly.
The room was confortable with nice warm shower.
The kitchen is well equipped, spacious and with individual cupboards to store your own food, very good!
On the top floor there is a very nice varanda with rock-chairs and hammocks where you can relax and enjoy the sun set.
Location is ideal if you want to be away from the noise of the town but still it is only 25 minutes walk to centre or 4 soles ride by moto carro.
The manager was very accommodate and kind to fit my schedule, thank you very much appreciated!
Overall it was a positive experience and definitely I recommend and would book again! There is a police of use of the kitchen between 8am to 9pm, so if you start the day early early it might be a problem.
Once, I only put the kettle on, just to make a cup of coffe at 11pm, and was told off, I am 57 years old and felt like a school girl in a boot camp.
So, be respectful of the rules and regulations as the police is tolerance zero, to maintain the order and discipline of the place, which is understandable.
However, a little flexibility and common sense would be beneficial, as people are on holidays and there is no harm, mess nor noise in having a cup of coffe out of hours.
- Katja (7/5): For value it was clean and fairly comfortable - It was a fine room. The bed was adequate. The sheet was minimal as was the towel, but both were provided and the room was clean. My biggest issue was the light in the hallway waking me up throughout the night. Very bright shining through windows too high for me to cover
- Tjau (3/5): NEVER EVER AGAIN!! - Kitchen facilities They don't respect your privacy. 3 Times they came into my room without knocking! To turn of the ven... and once without any reason.
The owner (the guy) is extremely rude!!! To a lot guests.
They charge you more then the booking price!
- Cindy (9/5): A great place to stay, clean and comfy - Carlos and his parents are very welcoming. The Laundry Service is excellent, smelled super fresh. The whole Hostel has super detailed atmosphere and the roof terrazze is great and comfy. The breadrolls, but this seems to be a Peruvian thing 😅. But maybe I am to spoiled as a german.
- Nicole (9/5): Superb -
- Lucía (8/5): Very good - The air conditioning in the bedrooms It's a bit far from the center.
- Madelyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Madelyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gokce (1/5): !!!!Attention travellers!!! - If you want to have a family experience completely full of rules, you are in the right place. The hostel consists entirely of rules, signs everywhere telling you what you can and cannot do. For example, you are not allowed to use the kitchen after 8-9 o'clock. Since I was cooking after 9 o'clock, the host came and told me to stop (in the middle of cooking), so there was no point in all my ingredients going to waste and he was very insistent. You will come across warning signs on everything from how to use the refrigerator, how to use the bathroom, how to enter the toilet! Be prepared to smell damp in the room and be breathless all afternoon due to the heat and humidity combined with dampness, and if you want to use AC they will charge you a difference of “30” soles! And even though the room was not completely cleaned, they changed our bedspreads once every 4 days upon request. Check out at “11” am. Very Of course, there are warning signs on the back of the door: "You can be late for 15 minutes, but if you are more than that, they will demand 50% of the money." On the check-out day, at 11.25, the door was open and all my belongings were collected, although I was only checking the room, the officer who did not speak English entered the room and made a hand gesture. and tried to take me out with a scolding tone. Even though I told him I was checking the room, his actions were unacceptably rude! Then I left the room, went to the terrace, took our bags and emptied the room. Then the other officer “supposedly” came to apologize, but instead he reminded me that it was the hostel's rules and said that I would not be allowed to sit on the terrace after check-out, and kicked me out of the common seating area and the hostel, saying it was 11.40! If you think you deserve this treatment and want to spend a holiday with your money without being afraid of the rules, I definitely recommend it!
- E (4/5): I don’t recommend to stay there. - Very normal The staff were unfriendly and they didn’t give back to our passport and we needed to pick up again.
They shouldn’t keep it during the stay.
Also some cockroaches and insects were inside the room.
It was far from the main places.
- Hellen (6/5): Pleasant - In general my stay was ok, however I booked a full day tour and it was not what they said and mentioned in a contract that I signed.
I wanted to go to a sanctuary to see rescued animals and I ended up in a zoo. Animals locked and they also allowed to feed them and taking pictures with them.
Very sad situation
I asked them to return to town and they didn’t make a refund even though that was not what I signed and did not try to calm down the situation. The guide did not show up anymore.
- Manning (10/5): Exceptional - The family that run the hostel are extremely friendly and accommodating, especially Carlos.
I stayed in a private room with double bed which was excellent value, really comfortable bed and en-suite
- Marco (9/5): Superb - Super friendly owners, always with a smile on their faces, giving valuable information;
Good breakfast, nice facilities;
Overall great value for money
- Sara (8/5): Very good -
- De (10/5): I just stayed for one night, but the staff was super friendly and let me leave my stuff for The day - The rooftop terrace is a very relaxing place
- Russell (7/5): Good -
- Victoria (1/5): Avoid. - The gentleman who checked us in seemed nice. 1. The front door requires a key to leave. Dangerous if there was a fire as you can’t easily get out.
2. Price quoted in USD but payment taken in soles. Hostel determines their own exchange rate, which doesn’t appear to have any relation to global exchange rates, meaning the property cost us £6 more than expected. Had we known, we wouldn’t have booked.
3. There was a hair on the sink which wasn’t ours and definitely wasn’t from someone’s head.
4. The shower was dangerous and kept tripping, meaning the hot water would go off and the lights would flicker.
5. Pillows were stained.
6. Breakfast very average.
7. Hostel seem to overcharge for services. Looking at other reviews, we should have realised this but as we weren’t booking a tour through them we didn’t think it would matter. This was until we were quoted 70 soles to go to the airport the evening before we needed it - 20 more than they told us the day before (it’s about a 20 min journey). The hostel will say this is because of the time of day - this is untrue, as when we checked in we said it needed to be 5am and specifically asked whether any transport was available at that time in the morning. The guy said at that time in the morning, it was ‘safer’ to book with them for 50 soles. When I was unhappy with this and say ‘I feel that you’re taking advantage of us’, a lady from the hostel proceeded to scream at me and insult me for 10 minutes, that it was her house etc., that I was no lady and even told my boyfriend to reconsider his relationship with me. It was absolutely insane and after reading other reviews afterwards, seems to be a common reaction when guests realise they have been massively overcharged. I can anticipate the hostels response to this to save grace - but she went completely over the top and took it way too far. I was ordered to ‘apologise’ in front of her family for daring to speak to her this way (I.e.
- Tomas (10/5): Exceptional - Karin is really great and nice person. Hostel is small and cozy with a wonderful view of the moon from the terrace.
- Patrycja (10/5): Exceptional - Great place, away from the loud street, room service, kitchen at your disposal, nice terrace with the possibility of total chill, comfortable beds. The hosts were very helpful, we felt very taken care of. I definitely recommend this place. :) :) :)
- Nneka (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bojana (10/5): Exceptional - really lovely family run hostel with a beautiful terrace, we enjoyed our stay there!
- Massimiliano (7/5): Amazon house - Karina made everything easy during our stay and she suggested to visit the main attractions in the area The neighborhood is too noisy.
- Romain (9/5): Quiet and beautiful place -
- Marjorie (9/5): Super friendly staff and nice common areas to socialize with fellow travelers! - Super friendly staff and nice common areas to socialize with fellow travelers!
- Jorge (7/5): Good -
- Anonymous (10/5): A perfect place to stay in Iquitos! - Fantastic place! Clean, cozy and welcoming. Thanks to Carlos and his family for making our trip to Iquitos memorable!
- Christian (5/5): Great facilities, bad location - The hostel is a small house, but it has almost everything you will need during your trip to Iquitos. The room was cozy, clean and quiet, the bathroom was also well-equipped. The TV had access to Netflix, so it was easy to watch a nice movie. Regarding the breakfast, it was fair and had a nice presentation. The location is not the best, so taking a tuk tuk became expensive. It's not in the city centre. If you don't have problems with walking a bit, great.
- Carlos (3/5): Poor -
- Vitaly (10/5): I can recomend this place for everyone - Owners were incredible helpfull and friendly. They helped us a lot to fing perfect jungle tour.
Kitchen is very well equipped here.
And rooftops is the best. You can relax in a hammack or party with some international travellers. And amazonian sunsets are just amazing as well.
- Sbrandy (7/5): Good - The host (very well English-speaking! ) was very nice and helpful.
The terrace and kitchen area is very much comfortable and has everything to chill. If you would imagine this place somewhere else it would have been perfect. Right now there is massive construction going on right in front of the accomodation. Unfortunately you cannot chill between 8am and 7pm - it is so loud you don't even understand the person next to you. We asked the host for a reduction since we didn't know about what was going on but they refused - too bad!
You have to be aware that this place is in the middle of the slums and you definitely need a Tuktuk to get into the main part (around 3-5 soles)
HONEST ADVICE: skip Iquitos - it is not nice at all!!!!! It is loud (many tuktuks and too many people), massive dirty.
- Anna (10/5): exceptional staff! very helpful -
- Viviana (10/5): wonderful - It is super clean and the bed is very comfy. iThe Terrance at the roof is super nice.
The kitchen is very nice, as the vegetarian, there is not much choice in Iquitos, appreciate able to cook.
There have some shop near the hotel that can buy the ingredients. And it is very close to the square.
Thank you Carolina to help plan the trip in the city.
Thank you for the arrange taxi at the airport ( with extra money) and all the penitent on what’s app communication.
Thank you for the wonderful breakfast. Try the vegetarian one, love the fruit mix, it was fantastic.
The jungle trip is wonderful, must need to try. It is once in the life time experience.
Thank you for the Wi-Fi.
If I go back to Iquitos again, will stay here again. nonp
- Eva (8/5): Great Stay with superfriendly Owners! - We were welcomed by Karina, who is the very bubbly and friendly owner of Amazon House. We wanted to do the Amazon tour but weren’t sure how many days because the activities you did on the tour depended on how many days you were going. Karina arranged the extra activity to go to The Monkey Island which is normally not in the itinerary so that was great! Furthermore did she also give us many tips regarding restaurants, other activities and transport.
TIP for Amazon House: everybody loved the Monkey Island so definitely an activity to consider putting into the usual itinerary;)
The room was also very clean at the apartment and we had AC to cover the heat. Because we did the tour with the overnights and the arrangement of Monkey Island, we weren’t able to get a discount on our room in the Amazon house..
The tour itself was quite fun. However there were some activities mentioned on the program that didn’t take place due to dry season. it would’ve been nice to be informed about this. ;)
Also the cabins in the Amazon were more basic than we expected, as the pictures they showed us were different from the cabins we eventually got.
Our guide Raoul was a good guy and could speak English which was great as wel!
- Jill (10/5): Exceptional - The owner, Karina, was so kind and welcoming. She truly made us feel like part of the family and I would happily stay here again!
- Felina (10/5): Exceptional - The Amazon house is run by a family. They are all really nice and helpful. The tours they offer are safe and we could even change the program to our liking. nothing at all
- Jonathon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rob (9/5): Superb - Local hostal with comfortable roof terrace with hammocks, and very friendly owners. The rooms are simple but comfortable, in the end, it is what I had expected for what I had paid. It´s a bit from the centre, and expected a better breakfast (even though they have the options to upgrade your breakfast).
