Guest Reviews
- Daniel (2/5): - I arrived at the hotel entrance only to find that the hotel was closed and I couldn’t check in. After multiple communications with customer service, I received a full refund.
- Anthony (8/5): - Great location, very helpful staff, nice pool. Watch out for insect bites at pool , surrounded by trees
Personal amable y atento.
- Jesper (8/5): Centrally located quite hotel with friendly staff - Good hotel with plenty of friendly staff. No view from the rooms. Very quite place.
Service accueillant.
- Simone (10/5): Can't imagine a better hotel in Mandalay - It's already been said that this hotel is an absolute oasis and that is exactly what it is, which is exactly what you will need in Mandalay. Staff and hotel are perfect.
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- Gerry (10/5): - Great central location with the bonus of beautiful gardens.
- Stephen (10/5): City Oasis. - On the main street my heart sank when the taxi slowed and I saw the sign next to a derilict building, but he drove through an arch and down a bit of a lane opening into a tropical oasis! In the middle of the city it was definately unexpected.
The hotel is of an age but the rooms especially are renovated to a very high standard. The restaurant serves very tasty and high quality food and the staff as always in Asia are excellent.
I was very pleased we did not have to go hunting for restaurants outside as there did not appear to be many.
We only stayed one night but it was a positive and enjoyable experience and if I were to return to Mandalay I would stay again.
- Yoong Han (2/5): Fail in hospitality - Hospitality, zero. Staff are not proficient in english. No matter how clean or how centralise the hotel can be, poor hospitality bring the whole image of the hotel down.
i was unfortunate to be sick during my trip in Mandalay. The staff can hardly understand me. Can you imagine you are very sick and trying get people understand you.
As i was so sick that I have no appetite, i wanted to order porridge which I know is not on the menu. I asked if this can be done, and was told that it can be. By dinner I called for room service and I was told that it cannot be done. And what was agreed earlier was a suggestion of steam rice and soup. And the person over the phone laughed and said 'we don't do italian rice'. Anyway i totally have no energy and i gave in to soup and steam rice in order to stay alive overseas. Honestly with the soup, the rice was still hard to swallow.
- Anne (8/5): Great Pool Area - It's hard to decide what you should consider a nice hotel when staying in a place like Mandalay in a country like Myanmar. The room was small, but nice. It was clean, the bathroom was modern and the bed was comfortable. The curtains needed to stay closed on the windows in my room, due to the building next door. The kettle was old, but there was one. I'd recommend it. I lowered the service rating only because they didn't speak enough English to make every request easy.
- Felix (6/5): Has seen better days - The staff are very nice and try their best, but the hotel is old, the rooms and bathroom were quite smelly. We booked a car through the hotel and the car was really old and dirty. We specifically asked for seat belts and there was only one. I wouldn't recommend this hotel, however no shadow falls on the staff, they are friendly, but the hotel is old and quite run down.
- Lee (8/5): Lovely hotel in a central location - Great service team that made us feel welcome throughout our stay with their warm hospitality
- Theresa (8/5): Wonderful location and service. That's all - Great quiet hotel on very busy street. Service without compromise. Weird elevator, always 1/2 a flight of stairs from where you want to go, either up or down. Hot water seldom found. If you need to use more than one electrical device, you have to unplug something. Room is small.
- Kathleen (8/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful, Beautiful grounds, felt peaceful. Breakfast good. Would recommend. Reasonable English spoken.
- JEFFREY (10/5): On the road to Mandalay City - Great hotel with great staff in a very good location. Only negative was the lack of a lift.
- mike (8/5): Oasis in downtown Mandalay - Comfortable room, friendly & helpful staff, great pool. Hotel feels far removed from it's immediate surroundings. Minuses are slow internet (which may not be the fault of the hotel), and no hot water.
- Geoff (10/5): Mandalay City Hotel Excellence - Presentation was excellent, room was large and comfortable with all facilities and pleasant garden view through large windows. Staff service was friendly and extremely helpful.
- craig (6/5): Okay for 1-2 night stay - Room a bit pokey & plain. Bathrm was good as was bfast, & pool was excellent too. But elevator not workng.
- Susanne (10/5): Mandalay City - Nice Hotel and staff was really helpful
- Bryan (8/5): Well located and comfortable hotel - Mandalay City Hotel is quite centrally located. The most lovely part is that it is about 100 metres from the main road, connected by a driveway and is enclosed by trees that you almost do not hear the busiest road. It has a medium size swimming pool and is really relaxing to dip in it and be surrounded by plants. The lobby is flanked by koi ponds which are well maintained. My single room is comfortable and reasonably priced. The bathroom looks newly renovated too.
The breakfast is basic by international standard but I am sure it is pretty good among a 3 star hotel. The staff are very attentive and you can also ask the restaurant staff to make you delicious fried rice or noodles.
Although you cannot change your currency to kyats with the staff, there is a ATM machine within the hotel lobby.
To the left of the hotel entrance is a popular Indian Muslim roadside food place and Burmese Indian food is delicious.
Lastly, do not be shocked by the uncompleted building over the driveway to the hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Hidden and very nice - Great hotel set back from a busy industrial street so it seemed quiet and like we weren't in the middle of the city. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Pool is beautiful.
- lisa (10/5): Great hotel! Wish we had more time here. - Lovely hotel, one of the best rooms we had in Myanmar. Good size, we both had room for suitcases and hanging wet clothes. Loved the bathroom with waterfall shower head. Great breakfast with lots of choices (got to try the Mohinga soup). Nice pool to enjoy after hot days sight seeing. Pretty good central location, we felt safe out walking around, and there were lots of restaurants in the area. It was right downtown but because of the way it was situated (down long driveway) it truly did feel like an oasis in town. Loved the landscaping and pond up front. Front desk staff helpful with directions and recommendations. Only downside is having to walk through lobby or restaurant to get to pool.
- James (8/5): - all good - great staff - friendly and very accommodating
Pool was ok but over grown with trees - no sun
good location to see the sights of Mandalay
- Derek (6/5): Nice hotel and staff, quiet but awful wifi - All was ok except the wifi - very pleasant and comfortable place (although views were non-existent)
- kimberley (10/5): Very good breakfast and attentive staff - An oasis of tranquility in a very noisy city.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights, in a single bedroom. The bathroom which matters me the most was very clean so does the bedroom. The staff was very nice and helpful too. And the location of the hotel was excellent.
- Isabelle (10/5): Best hotel I stayed in in Myanmar - At $25/night, in the price range, this was the best hotel I stayed in during my 3 weeks holiday in Myanmar.
The room was clean, modern and comfortable.
The pool was great and the staff could not do enough to help.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Highly unreliable wifi. I liked the fact that it is located very close to the Central Market.
- Mugs (8/5): Convient but tired - Mandalay City Hotel is an inconsistent experience. Hotel is great. Central location. Building and rooms very tired. The pool is lovely. Front desk staff real pains. Dining room staff couldn't be nicer. Bed is as hard as a rock.
- kimberly (8/5): - nice hotel tucked away off main street- good cafe in restaurant which is important because not much other food around- long walk to palace but cabs to palace and surrounding ancient capitals are reasonable
- Moira (8/5): Oasis in Mandalay - As someone else said, this is definitely an oasis away from the heat and dust of Mandalay. It's away from the street and I really I enjoyed the pool. My only complaint is that a couple of times the chaises were all taken. (They only had about 8 on one side) and you couldn't get wifi out there. Bed was very comfortable. The location is near the palace and other sights, but no restaurants very near. As a result we ate in their restaurant 2 of our three nights. Prices are all in dollars. a bit more expensive than elsewhere, but the food was good. Service was a bit slow (they were quite busy) and entrees did not come together. They had no wine by the glass, but they did have half bottles and the rose was very nice. I wish the lighting were a bit softer. Good breakfast buffet with eggs made to order. I would definitely stay here again.
- Steve (8/5): Good hotel tucked away down a quiet laneway. - We had a very nice spacious 1 bedroom unit on the top (5th) floor with an outlook above the rooftops. The pool area is also very nice although being February the water was quite chilly but still very nice. The food and drinks in the hotel are quite good which is important as there aren't any other real options close by.
- Mark (6/5): Mandalay - Staff is very friendly, rooms are small but very clean. Neighborhood is typical of Mandalay. Burmese people are very friendly and gracious. Good value, buffet breakfast was adequate.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Right choice - An oasis in the heart of Mandalay. Quiet and slightly away from the overpowering street noise. Great breakfast, helpful staff. Clean and comfortable room.
- Kristian (8/5): Mandalay Stay - Good hotel close to the palace
- lily (8/5): Comfortable hotel - Hotel was lovely and clean. Wifiwas reasonable (pretty good by Myanmar standards) and even worked in the room. The hotel has a pool which was great for a cool down. Located on a main road, not many eating options within a short walk of the hotel, however motorbike taxis were readily available and affordable.
- Andrew (6/5): Great staff, poor wifi - Very friendly and helpful staff. Central location. Rooms clean. Pool very nice though was cool when I was stayed. Wifi was atrociously poor, almost non existent. Hotel restaurant & bar ridiculously over priced
- Kevin (8/5): Nice hotel in a grim city - A nice hotel with helpfull staff. Pool small and very shaded. Mandalay is not a great tourist city and neighbourhood was pretty from. Restaurants few and far between and even street food very limited.
- Lesley (8/5): Central city hotel with pool. - Clean hotel with lovely swimming pool in central Mandalay. Easy walk to markets and royal palace. Very pleasant friendly and helpful staff. Great restaurant. Rooms redone with nice bathrooms snd plenty hot water.
- E (10/5): Comfort, quiet, lovely pool, great staff - The hotel is lovely with an entrance through a garden with lily ponds and koi fish. The room was not large but nicely set up, good breakfast, lovely inviting swimming pool in shaded garden in the back. VERY quiet as hotel is set back off a main road. Nice restaurants in area, taxi stand a half a block away. We had a lovely stay here and the pool was great after a day of sightseeing. We recommend taking the Lonely Planet's suggested bike tour as a walking tour as it starts close to the hotel and takes you through the old part of the city that you would not see otherwise.
- Bradders (8/5): Great location.... - A nice relaxing hotel, nice staff and good breakfast buffett under the huge Jacaranda trees replete with birds and squirrels.
