Guest Reviews
- Louise (8/5): Thank You! - Room was SPOTLESS and well-appointed, although I recommend having facial tissues available. Check-in was efficient and courteous, even though it was a late arrival time.
Trickiest issue is finding the way into the property (the city's problem, not the owners').
- Alexander (8/5): Easy Stay - Motel was clean, close to airport, and affordable.
- Tanner (2/5): - Rooms are nothing like what’s advertised. Ordered a king and was put in a full with dirty sheets. Smell of must annd old smoke and felt damp and humid. Owner refused to let us cancel after going in and checking out the room and pulling back the sheets. Accused of “using the room” for ten mins and since we stepped in he wouldn’t allow us to cancel.
- Caterin Johana (2/5): Its a Motel - Front service attendant was rude, said we could only shower once during my stay
- Carrie (10/5): - The room was small, but very comfortable and perfect for my husband and i on our visit to see his childhood friend that lives in the area. Owners were very friendly and even gave us plastic silverware when our DoorDash forgot to send it. Very nice coffeehouse within walking distance as well.
- Skylar (2/5): - My first reservation with a Airbnb ended up not being a reliable place to stay, so I booked this hotel while already in Minneapolis. When I arrive the man working the desk tells me that I need a state id to check in, which I did not have because I travel with my passport. He gave me a hard time as a woman by myself until a male coworker showed up with me and his whole attitude changed. Long story short I never ended up checking in to this place because I felt extremely uncomfortable and the man did not sound convincing that I would get back the $500 deposit they were asking for. And on top of that they gave me a hard time canceling my reservation and did not fully refund what I had paid to be there , extremely inconveniencing me because I had to pay for another hotel reservation in full on top of what this place had charged me.
- Alan D. (8/5): - the staff were very friendly and the location is perfect for folks , who want a place near the airport. the cost was moderate. the physical layout worked out well, since I had a room on the ground floor[ worked great].
the place I modest and I did not expect a palace. 2 issues. there was no shape in the shower dispenser . also the cleaning material used on the floors, smelled like FABULOSO. I find it offensive and the ingredients are such that I would never use in my home.
if they regularly refill the shampoo and change cleaner, I would have been thrilled.
- Walter (8/5): - Basic no frills older building but clean, newly renovated with friendly helpful staff. Convenient to public transportation, airport and down town. Enjoyed the stay.
- Ryan (8/5): - It was mostly good, It wasn't bad but few minor things should be better like don't put snow on lawn between parking lot and sidewalk as it gets muddy. Don't want to track that mud into the room
- Dawn (8/5): - Fine for meducal stay over
- Lawrence (8/5): Don't Be Put off By the Appearance - From the outside, the Snelling makes the Bates Motel look like Disneyland. But actually I am completely satisfied with what I got for what I paid. The room was clean and spacious enough. The bathroom was clean and adequately stocked and the shower worked. There was a fridge and some complimentary bottled water. The office staff is very friendly. My only complaint is a small one, that the in-room HVAC unit is quite loud. But I got used to it. I came to Minneapolis to visit my daughter who lives 10 minutes away, and all I needed was a place to sleep. I would gladly stay here again, and probably will.
- Greg (8/5): - Very Convenient for us as we were able to use the Metro transit for everything.
- LeRoy (10/5): great experience - This hotel is undergoing new renovations and my room was fantastic, everything new from the bathroom to the new windows, carpet and all new furniture.
this was an excellent choice for my trip to Fort Snelling.
walking distance to the rail transit.
- Lawreen (6/5): - Really not worth the price they want.
- Dr Anne (8/5): - The room was fine -- clean, with everything we needed. The property was also fine, though the stairwell was cluttered and appeared to be in some state of repair. The location was perfect for us. There was no restaurant but we had a great lunch at SeaSalt, nearby. The next morning I picked up fruit and a muffin at the nearest grocery store while getting my 10K steps in. It was much better than I expected!
- Randy (8/5): - Check in was easy, the room was nice and recently redone and clean. It's a convenient location. The exterior needs renovation, but I sense the owners care about the interior first, which is good. I felt safe at all times. It is located near the airport, local busy streets, and the light rail line, so expect some noise from those facilities.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A wonderful stay! Amazing staff. Right next to metro, convenient but also really quiet. I know where Im staying when i come back to Minneapolis!
- Donna (10/5): - Was welcomed there. Good instructions about checking out during times when the office was closed. Friendly staff
- Daniel R (8/5): - Basic room and amenities. Very comfortable bed and pillows!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Would recommend to a friend - Never been to Minnesota before but stayed here so I could take the train to the mall or America and the twins game. It was clean, safe, close to the train stations, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Definitely staying here if I end up back in the twin cities!
- lina (6/5): - The property needs a lot of work. When I arrived and looked at the building,I almost turned back. The paint on the walls as falling apart. The stairway entry had a lot of construction stuff and junk. The place smelled bad,musty/old carpet. The room appeared to have been newly remodeled .It was clean except for the curtains with holes that need replacement. The door did not lock from inside.I appreciated the shower cap and a comfortable bed. They need to work on making the bed too.The sheets were hanging, which is not a big deal but is something that makes the room look better when you walk in.Had to clean the inside of the door because it was dirty. It was hot but the hallway air conditioning was not turned on.The two staff I met were really nice.I pointed out to them what I have listed above and their response was “they are always remodeling’.Felt somewhat unsafe but everything turned out okay. Its a place that I would not return though.
- Michelle (2/5): - There were no elevators
- Giulia (10/5): - Nice, undergoing construction but clean rooms, even if a little run-down. Nice staff, friendly and right next to the metro
- Kimberly (8/5): - Our first impression when checking in was that we weren't sure what we were going to get. But the room was better than what we thought. It was clean suited our needs for an overnight stay. There were a few cosmetic things, but again, it was clean and that is what matters most. We would stay there again
- paul (10/5): - The owners were very friendly and accommodating. The blue line is a block away so very convenient. Sheets, towels, etc. All clean. Very quiet. The only slight negatives would be that the carpet itself is a little worn and the Wi-Fi is a little spotty. But overall we were very happy with the stay and would stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Conveniently Located - Check in was easy and the hotel is right on the Blue line, so we could easily get to various points around the city, including the airport, with a $4 all-day pass.
- Hoang (10/5): - Affordable, clean place that's near to the rail.
- Juliet (8/5): - Staff were really nice. Microwave and big fridge a hige plus. Big room. Very clean!
- Charles (8/5): - Nice rooms and a great price , there was a microwave, fridge and coffee maker in the room and even received a call to see if we needed anything. Polite and courteous staff.
- Cory (10/5): - Good place nice and quiet.
- Andrew (6/5): - Property is next to rail tracks, is on a street split by the tracks (you can’t cross them) so if you’re not on hotels side oof the street, good luck getting there.
Arriving in the evening, we found the next morning that the refrigerator was warm. Management told us of course we had to turn the refrigerator on. No mention of that anywhere
Bed was comfortable, floors squeaky. Average stay.
- Carlton (10/5): - Kind staff and comfortable setting
- Kara (8/5): - I liked that it was quite, owners were friendly and hospitable. I liked that it was near metro station.
- Melissa (8/5): - I was satisfied with my stay.
- Kristy (6/5): - I chose this place because it was just down the road from the boy scout Base Camp where my son's troop was for the night. The staff member that checked us in was super nice. Property seemed old and could have used some updates in the rooms for sure. Didn't like that there was no lock on the room door besides the key card entry lock. There was a dead bolt type lock, but it didn't line up so I was unable to use it, which made me feel a little unsafe. My daughter tried to take a shower but after waiting for the water to get hot, it was still luke warm after 10 minutes. The fridge, coffee maker, and tv worked fine. Didn't try the microwave. I don't think there was an ice machine, but I didn't feel comfortable looking around the property for one, and no type of breakfast or anything. The light rail track was on the road in front of the building, so that was a little loud. Overall, it served its purpose, but I'm not sure if I'd stay there again.
- Robyn (10/5): Snell ya Later - Booked this hotel because it was close to the airport and was pleasantly surprised. The location was perfect for our trip. Metro was super convenient. Room was cleaned every day. Hotel staff was friendly. Will definitely be back.
- Jon (8/5): - Our stay was good. The staff was very helpful and pleasant to work with. The room was nothing fancy, but was clean and felt safe.
- Raymond (8/5): Wonderful trip - Relaxing, convenient to get around town, courteous staff
- Gabriel (8/5): - This property is better than expected, even if those expectations are low. This motel is now called the Snelling Lodge, so don't get too confused when you're looking this up on the internet or your maps.
I was greeted by a kind gentleman on the phone and at the check-in desk. The overnight stay was quiet and comfortable and I slept soundly.
- Deborah (4/5): - Bad area, hallways hot, entrance. Door not working.
- Anthony (6/5): - I like what Sanjay and his family are doing with the place and I want to support them, but I cannot deal with all the strange people working on their cars in the parking lot and hanging around in front of their rooms, staring at you. They need to make rules about what you can do in the parking lot and shoo away people "living" there on a daily basis. It could be a real gem then.
- Bob (10/5): - Just what we were looking for!
- yalemselam (2/5): Bad experience not as advertised . - The worst customer service experience with lady that we emcountered in to after a long drive late night. She was so unprofessional and insulting in many ways . And told us to leave the premises when we asked about there policies. Because that was never mentioned on the site on hotels.com anywhere that you cant have three guests in a double bed room . I have been booking with hotels.com for a while now and never had a worst experience ever? Even if we were willing to understand the situation the lady kept disrespecting us and attempeted to scare us off by saying " i am calling the police" as if were criminals that we would budge. Over all i dont recommend for any one one to saty in this hotel. I am still puzzled how the state still haven't revoked their licenses.
- Susan (6/5): Ok but would not recommend or stay there again - This place was pretty run down and not in a great area . Though the room itself was pretty clean it was below average in terms of updates. It appeared this property might have been a long term resident for veterans. I was concerned for safety and requested a second floor room and was concerned about my car in the parking lot. There were no issues but I would not recommend this for a business or family traveler or a single traveler. There was nothing around the property in terms of restaurants or stores. I was glad I bought a salad at the airport and had that for dinner
- Behnam (10/5): - Very affordable with very friendly staff
- Margaret (4/5): - Stuff stacked all over in stairwell and hallway and boxes galor. Made it look trashier then it qlready looked on outside. I chose it for location right nect to the VA hospital.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Got to the place and was a little scared to go in. Not the greatest. Looks like doing remodeling. No heat in halls and no elevator. But had room 36 with king bed. Room was very comfortable. We were on the side of the building so the sound of the commuter trains didn't bother us. Convenient right next to VA. Room was very clean.
- Jessica (10/5): - Easy to check in and drop my key at the end of my stay, clean, spacious, secure, and incredibly well located by a light rail station just two stops from the airport.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Very shoddy structure and grounds.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - As we checked-in, the police were evicting a customer. Check in behind security plexiglass. Hallway to room strewn with remodel materials. Room was dirty and poorly kept (except sheets & bedding were clean). Charged extra for 2nd adult and only provided two towels. Few outlets in the room. Carpeting so dirty my feet were filthy stepping into shower. I could hear light rail all night. I've stayed in better cheaper hotels, this one wasn't cheap. Couldn't wait to check out.
- Venture692230 (2/5): Worst hotel ever - They tell u u cant have guests most people come to town to visit people and it says nothing in there rules about guest I was a domestic abuse victim getting shelter the woman there does not need to speak with people at all she's very very rude and she thinks she's superior she's gonna do that to the wrong person in that neighborhood and it's not going to be pretty also the tell people that your not there and dont put there calls through which domestic violence victim I was having the courts and my Advocate calling me all the time and they would tell her not to call so much then they told my boyfriend he couldn't call after 10 p.m. they would not put them through if I am paying for a room I expect to get my phone calls and be able to have visitors as I please this is the worst hotel ever I don't know who they think they are if they can tell you who you can have call you in your room my suggestion if you want yes or any phone calls I mean I guess you got to be a Hobbit to stay there. Just don't stay there it's not worth it
- James (10/5): Great stay and will book again - Very great place to stay with very friendly staff
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was near the light rail.
It was clean.
It was convenient.
It was old.
It was not far from the airport.
- Greg (8/5): - Decent hotel. Nothing fancy. VERY close to light rail and a 15 ride to downtown. They look they are making updates so it will improve the overall quality of the property in time.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Book a room I was too scared to stay in. Not a great experience.
- jg491 (6/5): Great location, needs work - At these prices, one cannot expect too much; but this motel seems to be in search of its identity. Marvelously located on the light rail line and close to the park, relatively easy vehicle access, and overall fairly clean. There are signs that management has made improvements, such as a brand new shower control valve in the room and a new bathroom door. Yet, the entryway is piled full of boxes and bags and lawn care tools; the light switch is filthy, the lamp shade is torn, the new bathroom door has not been finished, and the walls have been patched with the skill of a four year old. Check-in is conducted through bullet-proof glass, but the neighborhood didn't seem that bad-it may be improving since there is a major apartment complex being constructed next door. There was a fridge and microwave in the room. Bed was comfortable and clean, AC worked better than in some expensive hotels. I would probably stay here again since the flaws are mostly cosmetic.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - room was nothing like pictures on website. power outage in middle of night not at all what we expected
- Dave (8/5): - Overall good experience. Staff was very friendly. Room was clean and tidy, and the area was quiet. Way-finding to the motel was a little tricky, plus my Google map directions were lacking, so study your map closely before visiting.
- Glen (8/5): - Nice little place near light rail for Vikings game.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Close to VA light rail station. Ok for an overnight, wouldn't stay longer. Overpriced; no breakfast, poor parking, felt like my vehicle was going to get broke into.
- Dave (4/5): - My out of own guest reported being bitten by bedbugs.
- denise (10/5): Excellent - Convenient and affordable
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owner & his stuff were very nice. Clean rooms.
- James (6/5): - Right next to light rail so convenient from airport and to other locations on the light rail line.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hard to find but a good value. I would use it again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Near the airport - Without a car/automobile I thought this (within walking distance of light rail station) would be convenient. But there's no eating nearby - and no breakfast either.
Adequate enough, within those limitations.
- Bill (8/5): - Perfect for the price. No pool. No valet service. Clean and safe.
Clean and safe for the price. Location is wonderful. Office staff was wonderfully patient dealing with Orbitz and some changes. I just booked another stay with them.
Believe me...I'll burn the bridge if I feel robbed. Not so here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great, safe location via light rail - Nice place for our stay. Gentleman checking me in was very nice. We stayed in an updated room with king bed. Bed could have been more comfortable, but room and bedding was clean! Can’t go wrong staying here.
Convenient to airport and downtown via light rail. It is right off the VA light rail stop.
I noticed some reviews mention this is not a safe neighborhood, this is untrue. I used to live in this neighbor (which is why I chose to stay here). The neighborhood has always been safe, in my opinion (single female). I have never felt uncomfortable, even walking to the light rail at 3am to catch a flight. I don't think you can find a better hotel for location and price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice spot, right on lightrail stop - Nice place for our stay. Gentleman checking me in was very nice. We stayed in an updated room with king bed. Bed could have been more comfortable, but room and bedding was clean! Can’t go wrong staying here.
- JoAn (8/5): - convenient to airport, very nice room, newly appointed. on metro line
- joanpU2432QO (8/5): Excellent location and newly renovated room - we chose the Snelling Motel as it was close to the Minneapolis/StPaul airport. It turned out to be easy to find, quiet, beautifully renovated room. The location is right on the Metro, near a VA hospital, and convenient to route 55. Since the motel is obviously undergoing rennovations, it was not too busy, and we had an easy drive to a lovely restaurant nearby and an easy ride to the airport at 3 am. It is a small motel, so there was not a congestion going in and out of the parking lot.
- K519KCmarkj (8/5): Very nice motel. - Our room was comfortable, very nice, and the couple at the desk were so friendly and helpful. No extras that we were aware of, but a nice place to stay. Would have enjoyed a continental breakfast but did not see that anywhere.
- Jessie L. (8/5): Great 2 night stay! - The owner/manager was direct and flexible on the checking in and out. The room was nice and spacious and very convenient to the rail.
- Verified traveler (8/5): nice motel, easy train access. - Nice motel and location. Easy access to train. Operators where helpful.
- Cindy (10/5): Stay near airport - This hotel is not the Ritz but the room was clean and comfortable. The Wi-Fi worked great. The woman on the front desk was very friendly. It is near a train station but the train wasn't loud. Convenient to the airport which is why I chose it. Overall, it was a nice overnight stay.
- Susan (10/5): comfy stay - The Snelling Motel was super clean and the manager was very friendly. He helped us find the best room for my husband's needs. We would definitely stay here again.
- wolfhollow (8/5): clean and comfortable - Stayed here while undergoing medical evaluation at the VA which is very close-walking distance. Very clean place with comfortable beds. Absolutely no frills-a basic clean room. We had a flat screen TV-nice-fridge and microwave which worked out fine for us. Our heater would not hold temp but we made it okay. Our room was recently remodeled with new carpet and appears -beds. It still needed touch up paint and some pix or something on the walls. The owners are super nice and very customer focused. No restaurants real close or groceries but its all doable. Again-the place is nice and clean.
- Verified traveler (4/5): convenient but very run down. - this is a rough motel in a rough neighboorhood. bullet proof glass windows at the check in
- Melissa (10/5): great family run business - When we have an early AM flight out of MSP we typically stay at the Snelling the night before. I like that it is a small family run business. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and it was very clean. We'll be staying again in the future.
- Kirk A. (8/5): Nice stay in Minneapolis. - The area in which the motel is very clean and peaceful a very convenient to transit. Overall trip was pleasant.
- Jeffery (8/5): Great location and staff very nice! - Good location for getting around all of Minn and St Paul. Felt very safe lots of families walking around, nice park with a waterfall right next door, wild turkeys in front of the hotel every morning was a nice surprise. A little noisy if in a room on the street as the metro runs past. room very clean, hotel in general had some ex-remodel items around that they should remove. Husband and wife team that runs the hotel are so very nice, made the stay special.
- lorrainem265 (8/5): Comfortable, Clean, and Convenient - My room, at least, seemed to have been recently remodelled. The bathroom had a shower that had new tiling and fixtures. The carpeting and bed linen seemed new and there was a TV with lots of channels, a microwave and a refrigerator all for a very reasonable price. This motel is close to the airport and just a few minutes walk from the light rail that goes either to Mall of America — a huge mall with an indoor theme park and many restaurants — or right downtown to the Nicollet mall, the stadium, government buildings, and more. The light rail was easy to use and the blue train runs every 10 minutes. The hotel owner (?)/manager was friendly and helpful — made sure I was getting on the right train. The property itself doesn't look like much but the motel was very clean and comfortable. Great value; great location.
- bob (8/5): Room was recently remodeled - room was very nice. great bathroom. Only problem was the office area and stairway. Very confusing and crowded. Otherwise great room for price.
- Babs (6/5): under renovation - Staff was very pleasant. Room was clean. Bath needs to be updated/replaced. Tub side walls were patched. I'm sure it was clean but it did not "feel" clean as the tub was old and stained. The color was an intense peach in the sink area, Making it very dark.
- ogibbs (6/5): Inexpensive comfortable - If you are looking for an room that is inexpensive and has a good bed, plumbing that works, a functioning TV, refrigerator and microwave, this is a good place. I have paid more for motel beds that were not as good.
The Snelling is not updated, new or fancy, but is quite functional.
- Mark (10/5): Nice clean basic hotel right next to light rail. - We stayed for a Vikings game. We caught the light rail one block down the street and it took us right to the stadium.ifs a basic hotel with everything you need. I would definitely stay again. If your looking for a high end ritzy hotel...this isn't it. But if you want a nice clean comfortable quiet place to stay with cheap transportation anywhere then this place is perfect!!!
- Michelle (2/5): This experience was HORRIFIC DO NOT STAY Here - This was a total dump, in a sketchy part of town... we where concerned for our safety!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Looks a little dated on the outside and where you check in but rooms were clean with reasonable rates. Staff was friendly.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Dive - It was s flop house...
- Marianne (8/5): - This is an older Motel that the owners are in the process of remodeling. I was there to visit family at the VA hospital, just a 10 minute walk. The Metro blue line runs in front of the motel. They gave me an upstairs room in the back, #31, very quiet. I did not heat the metro at all. Almost all the rooms are non smoking, $500 fine if you smoke ifbthe room also. The room was large, cozy, very clean and comfortable. The owners are very friendly. No frills of a find hotel, such as a gym or pool. I stayed 3 nights. No restaurants in walking distance, but many deliver to the hotel. I mostly ate in the VA cafeteria. Very short cab ride to the airport or you can ride the blue line, which also goes to the Mall of America. While here, go see the Minnehaha waterfall. You can also walk here.
- PattlyG (10/5): Awesome! - We were forced to stay the night in Minneapolis due to a mechanical error and were so lucky to find a room available here. It is only seven minutes to the airport and is run by the kindest man in town. He cheerfully welcomed us after midnight and cheerfully drove us to the airport at 5am the next morning, no charge, just out of the goodness of his big heart. The room was comfortable and clean. The service was superb!
- Belushi507 (6/5): Good for one overnight! - Room was clean. Improvements on the hotel were obvious. Close to the light rail station to head downtown. The shower was warm. The only complaint I have is its off the beaten path and no food options.
- ReynaZ_13 (10/5): Best find EVER!!! - We couldn't be happier that we found this gem!! It's right on the train route so we stay there for games, concerts, any event. The rooms are clean and recently renovated. The owners are absolutely amazing and we feel like we're home whenever we stay. We'll never stay anywhere else!!!!!!!
- 785PaulB785 (8/5): Good For The Night - Stayed overnight for football game- Clean comfortable large room, super convenient to get to US Bank Stadium, Airport and Mall of America. If you can bring drinks and food because there is nothing around and seems like the town shuts down @11pm. Its not a 5 star hotel- so if that don't matter to you- this place is a good deal
- ElmoizA1 (2/5): A terrible noisy motel near Minneapolis airport - We spent 5 days at Snelling Motel. We were searching a hotel not far from Macalester College where our son enrolled, and the net informed us about Snelling Motel. It is a small motel run by a family. The motel doesn't have amenities, no even a small vending machine. The trains run all the time, it is so noisy. They don't have even enough cups in the room, no plates at all, you should remember to bring your own cups. Thet don't clean the room on Sunday or taking the trash. If we don't spend most of our time at Macalester College or with friends, we would have tough time. I advise you to avoid staying in this motel.
- philiplC2973VW (10/5): good location and good people - Thank You Snelling Motel! -
for providing a Clean and Safe place to stay on my visits to Minneapolis - your proximity to Light Rail Transit, which connects to the Airport, Mall of America and all the Downtown venues is a Plus - i also like that you are near the Hiawatha corridor but not on it - and also within walking distance of the Minnehaha Falls Park, which is a Treat in itself - you are really the Best, which i write with Confidence
- quicken76 (8/5): Good for Short Stay - Stayed for 2 nights for football. Easy enough to get into town via tram. Lovely sized room which was very comfortable. I chose it as I had an early flight the next morning and this is ideal for the airport. The staff very polite and helpful. The only drawback for me would be there are no shops or anything around the motel but this would not stop me using the motel again.
- 2FLWRS (8/5): Good stay - We stayed at the Snelling in Minneapolis to see Chelsea FC play AC Milan at the U.S. bank stadium. It was conveniently located a block away from the blue line train that took us straight to the stadium. The room was clean and the king bed was very comfy. Would def stay here again.
- AMS_Colorado (8/5): Very nice owners - My son and I stayed here two nights while he had an audition. We needed an inexpensive place to stay and I found Snelling Motel. They are doing updating but it did not disturb us at all. Our refrigerator was not working and we were immediately put into another room. We were offered bottles of water for the fridge. The beds were comfortable, the room very clean and the owners very nice. The wifi is very positional and we were only able to use while sitting on the floor next to the door. That was our only complaint!
It's not fancy but it was what we needed.
- 97dwayner (10/5): Very friendly sweet people - After a terrible day of cancelled flights and long lines, and no available hotel rooms. My husband called around and found a hotel room for me. It was great to be someplace that was friendly and helpful. They are remodeling and this older motel will have a fresher look in the future.
They truly care about their customers. Made sure I had a taxi to the airport the next morning.
