Guest Reviews
- Jhimson (4/5): The facilities are okay butour expectations were not accommodated. - It's okay. However, there is no somebody that you can talk. We booked two rooms for 8 adults and 1 kid, however they provided 3 rooms since they don't have two rooms available for 9pax. The one that we booked is the skycity hostel as stated in our booking receipt but then we were accommodated with another kind of address /hostel but the same building in Chungkin. I was so disappointed since the one that I am expecting was not realized.
- Gona (1/5): I can’t even open the door properly , so tiny rooms , they show some thing on website and finally you get something - We didn’t like anything about the facility, so horrible and not safe for families and couples
- Simon (1/5): Bad - Very dirty
Way too small
Location was not right
- Judelyn (5/5): Passable - I like the space for 2 person just no aircon
- Chelsea (1/5): Bad - None The place and room has bad odor. Very dirty, small and cigarettes everywhere. You cannot sleep. We did not proceed and transfer to other hostel.
- Anthony (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jeena (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anderson (6/5): Pleasant - low cost
- Sam (4/5): - Have roach
- Ian (6/5): Never again - Leaving The room was very small
Overpriced
The area outside the hotel ( the lift entrance & fire escape have probably never been cleaned)
- Francis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mankhit (2/5): - I like the price for the staying, but you get for what you pay. The hotel is in an unsafe building.
- Noemi (4/5): Disappointing -
- Eddie (8/5): - Quiet for me and I had very good sleep without waking up in the middle of the sleep.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - 夜遅くの到着でもすぐ対応してくれました。
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Deb (2/5): - This is the scariest hotel I have experienced in my whole life. If you a women, girls, family don’t even think about to come to this hotels. I don’t recommend at all. The location is just inside the shops area but you will feel unsafe to stay in that hotels.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The elevator to get to the property was the slowest elevator I have ever ridden it was very small the place was very busy so it took 10 to 15 minutes just to get from the ground floor to your room and the same amount of time when you wanted to leave killed one huge cockroach in the room the property itself was located in a very nice area and close to everything
- Paul (10/5): Great and cost effective - I try to stay at thishotel Everytime I'm in HK
- S (2/5): just don’t - This “hotel” is part of Chungking Mansions. Please google search that this before staying here!!
The room is tiny - nowhere to put suitcase, smells like grease as there are restaurants on different floors. There was a stain on bed which looked like blood that had been washed (this is just a guess though). The shower is literally above the toilet and they provide you shower shoes to wear on the bathroom which indicates how clean it is.
There are exposed electric wires in hallway. There are cameras in the elevator that people watch from the bottom floor while waiting for their elevator and make sure you get the right one as each block has 2 elevators - one goes to even number levels and one to odd number levels. The bottom floor is food and electronic places and people constantly trying to stop you and sell rooms and suits etc.
We heard from another hotel that they don’t change sheets - if they still look okay when someone checks out they will just remake the bed. This is just hearsay but because of the stain I am inclined to think it’s true.
Bottom line - I guess if you’re looking for a cheap place to stay and don’t mind all the above things I mentioned then you could stay here. I would recommend your own shower slippers and bed sheet though.
- EdwinFranca (6/5): - Overall it’s ok...but when morning time like 5 o’clock there are people who cook at that time. So from your room you can smell it...
- Bob (4/5): Impossible to find. - This hotel has no signage at all. Impossible to find from the street. Ringing hotel was no help , they just kept giving me the address no directions. After asking 10 locals one of them pointed to a tiny corridor which led to an elevator. Wasn't too I got to the 13th floor that I found a sign for the hotel. Only to find reception unmanned, waited for 20mins before anyone arrived. Only stayed one night couldn't wait to get out of there.
- jeff (10/5): Great inexpensive hotel - great
- Elisabeth (2/5): it looks like a scam, not worth the value - The guy at reception is very kind but the rest is quite disappointing. I was given a micro-room of 4m2 including the bathroom with no windows. There is no even place to have your suitcase inside the room so the corridor is packed with the suitcases and towels of the people in form all rooms and there are no common areas. The hotel is split accross different buildings therefore no survelliance on those buildings but for the one where the reception desk guy is sitting. It looks like a scam when you get into the place. It is literally an appartment split into micro-rooms that act as hotel rooms. It is a very big building full of hotels/hostels. The lifts have long waiting lines as there is constant traffic of people. I would not recommend it if you are a woman travelling on your own.
- james (6/5): An honest review - Since the review system is censored and I didn't swear I thought I would put my review in another way. The hotel is good, clean and the staff are friendly. However the local area of chungking mansion is terrible. You are going to get bothered constantly from organized crime such as drug dealers etc. They will become an annoyance so please for the love of god. Do not take your family or love ones here. Stay here if this is your last choice. The hotel isn't bad just the area.
- som (8/5): Nice to stay but a little small - Close to everything you need, to and from airport just a breeze, take A21 from there
But be sure come to bus stop early. There are a lot of people, buy round trip tickets
From airport is cheaper when using same bus on returning to airport.
- gg (2/5): - change and move things to other room without informing. very noise, not recommand anyone to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): The best inexpensive hotel in Hong Kong - I always stay at this hotel in Hong Kong. Ms Pauly is the best!!!!
- william (6/5): Small but comfortable for the price - The room is small like many low priced Hotel's. The staff is very helpful and polite and the rooms are cleaned everyday. Each room has a safe and small refrigerator and the air conditioning works very well and each has it's own toilet/ shower. The only downside is no satellite or cable channels. There is 1 English channel which is Pearl, but has English tv shows at night. Chungking mansion house's many hostels. The entrance isn't so nice with all sorts of people but if you ignore them. You'll be ok.
- Linh (4/5): Small room and a cold, unadjustable air-con - Three of us arrived in a room so small all 3 couldn't stand at the same time (so we had to sit on the bed majority of time). Toilet was so small I crushed my head against the wall while struggling to turn and reach for toilet rolls. All of our 5 luggages had to be stored under the bed and only one can be taken at a time. I slept right under where the air-con was blowing and there's no way to adjust. At night you will hear humming noise from it, so my advice is to do so many activities during days they tire you out by night so you can sleep easily.
Dont get me wrong, you get what you pay, but to give you some comparison, a few days before I also stayed in a one-bed in another guest house with same price, I got a slightly bigger toilet and a roughly same space outside. That is a one-bed vs. a three-bed.
I won't even bore you with the overall building. Advice is, avoid Chungking Mansion at all costs. It's dirty, crowded, and will confuse the hell out of you.
The plus point was the staff was very nice, but I guess I can't sleep or stand on top of this niceness, can I?
- Verified traveler (6/5): Small but clean and convenient - We were prepared for small and it was, but our room had everything we needed for our short stay in Hong Kong, even harbour glimpses. The hotel was in a good location, close to shops, restaurants, attractions and harbour. Our room was clean, included a fridge and safe and the shower was hot. Microwave plus hot and cold drinking water were available in the foyer. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
- Durgesh (6/5): Good Budget Hotel in Chungking Mansions, TST HK. - Booked 4 Bedded Room at Sky-City Hotel, but allocated equivalent room in another hotel under same management - Hotel Skylark. Both in Chungking Mansions, Nathan Road, TST area.
Advantages at Skylark Hotel - 1: Easier Elevator access as located in E Wing ( Less crowded ) & on top floor - 16th level.
2: Clean well maintained room with Efficient O-General's Window AC, LCD, Hair Dryer, Refrigerator (Mini Bar), Electronic Safe, Desk, Telephone, Tea-Coffee Kettle & attached Shower & Toilet with Toiletries & 2 Window's for a bit of freshness in an otherwise claustrophobic building deprived of fresh air.
3: Good House keeping with daily cleaning of room & replenishing with fresh bed sheets, towels, toiletries etc.
4: Hot & Cold Water dispenser with Microwave in Common area/Reception.
5: Indian Cuisine options available within the Mansion - Best deal at Kamal - Ground Floor, Smrat on 5th Floor B Block & Saravanna on 1st Floor, both best for Veg Cuisines , Swagat & Sher-E-Panjab , both 1st floor for Non-Veg cuisine.( Room Service offered by all these restaurants)
Disadvantages of Skylark Hotel : 1: Very tiny bathroom - hardly 1 Square Meter for Wash Basin + WC + Shower.
2: Front Desk Service not available at night between 10 pm to 7 am.
3: Room very small - only about 100 Square feet, leaving no space to move or walk around. Baggage needs to be stored under the beds & bags need to be opened on the Beds itself.
4: Only Chinese TV Channels
- Luiz (8/5): You get what you paid for. - If you don't have to spend time at the hotel, besides sleeping, showering and pooping, it is OK, because you get what you paid for. A tiny room, when I say tiny, is like, if you have to change your mind, you have to walk outside the room.
- Verified traveler (6/5): nice budget hotel in heart of action areas - good clean budget hotel for bachelors, buss travelers, backpackers. suitable for Indians as options of Indian food available just below the property.
- Petr (6/5): Mini room with fast WiFi - Smallest hotel room I have been so far (not counting Japaneese formulas). 6 square meters and there is everything. If you wish to tie your shoes, you have to go to the hallway. So tiny. Also one of the fastest wifi connections I experienced during my travels.
- Daryl (8/5): Good hotel for the price you pay! - Good hotel, but the rooms are - like the rest of Hong Kong hotels - very small. I lived in a 2 person room but I never would stay there with two persons. The staff was really friendly and help us good when we arrived in the middle of the night.
- Kalya (6/5): It is very close to Tsim Sha Tsui MTR - The room is very small but it is a budget room in Hongkong. We prefer to call the place guesthouse instead of hotel. The location is in Chungking Mansion and close to Tsim Sha Tsui MTR. The first floor before we took the lift was a bit scary at night especially for women. The location is very good so we can go to anywhere using the public transport especially train. In front of the Mansion there is ISQUARE shopping centre.
The price is AUD$70 per night for triple room. We stayed there for 6 nights in early January 2016. We think the price is still reasonable in Hongkong.
The room is very clean and the staff was nice and friendly. The facility is also good.
Thank you Ali.
- Madeleine (4/5): More of a hostel than a hotel - I was very unhappy with my experience at this hotel. The pictures were false advertisement. The location of the hotel, however, was great because it was nearby to a shopping mall (walking distance) BUT exiting and entering the so called 'hotel' wasn't easy due to lack of direction signs. In my opinion, I would not say that the hotel is family friendly but it is suitable for staying overnight or quick few days stop. Beware of your belongings, drug dealers and prostitutes.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Tidy hotel, warm hospitality & great location - For those who understand about how much a squared meter costs in HK, then they'd appreciate how much convenient and comfortable Skycity hotel reflects in reality, even though room space is not as big as many people expect (meaning, no one should expect a spacious hotel room when coming to HK, not even for high-end hotels)
As for our own experience, we were happy about the warm hospitality and the tidy condition. And most importantly, the location is very convenient. FYI, the Avenue of Stars is just a 5-min walk nearby. So, you are open to imagination of other conveniences.
If anyone long for shopping experience in HK, they'd like staying at this hotel, for sure!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Small but clean and nice - I stay here about twice a month. very clean
- Nicholas (4/5): Tiny room as pictured - Hotel room is tiny as to be expected for the price, my stay was somewhat miserable due to the toilet not flushing my entire stay (this was mentioned to me on my check in and was not the fault of the hotel), there is often long waits with only one small elevator operating to the 13th floor that could only could a few people due to it's size, I won't be staying again but I also have no interest in visiting Hong Kong again.
- Maree (8/5): Great budget hotel room - We had a great budget stay here and the staff were amazing. Just don't expect much as it is budget and very small but when in hong Kong your not there for the hotel room.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Served the purpose - Was a compact room good for a single traveller. Well placed for shopping and seeing sites etc
- Verified traveler (6/5): you get what you pay for - the building is not the greatest. there is usually a group of men standing just outside. you will get people approaching you about tailors and counterfeit watches. there is only one elevator serving your floor which usually has a line. even our floor had a strange smell outside the hotel area. despite looking very dicey it never felt unsafe. the front desk employee was very friendly and helpful. the room was clean, but small like all guesthouses. free water was provided. it's clean and safe enough, but not certain if i would stay here again. It was an experience.
- Nilotpal (8/5): Skycity good for stay - Good hotel. Lovely stay. Good care on security, cleanliness, regular room service. Fridge, locker, ac,big led tv all provided inside room. Only drawback was room size. We stayed at 1410no. Room. But very little space to move. All staffs were cordial.
- Paul (8/5): Small, but clean - The hotel was weird going to. You have to wait in line to take an elevator to your hotel. There are several hotels in the same building. It looks a little scary until you get to the actual hotel. Its new and very clean!!!!. The rooms are extremely small. If you pass gas, you will not only blow out your ear drums, but the one window facing a wall. I would stay here again.
- Aaron (8/5): Good hotel. Close to everything. - For a solo traveler this hotel was perfect - in the centre of town, close to the harbour and local metro. Hotel staff were very approachable and kind; nothing was too much hassle. Only downside which couldn't be helped was the fact that there was no natural light in my room but good air con kept the temperature down. Would defiantly stay again.
- Macky (4/5): Changed hotel, broken toilet - - really small room, even for Chungking standards
- I was moved to other hotel for some reason (!? other section of building)
- toilet was broken (water flowing non stop), after calling to guy, he said he is not in place and will come later - he never came to fix
- can't fit laptop in safe (14' ultrabook)
- Babu (8/5): Good place for solo traveler - It is good for a solo traveler. It is located very near to MTR. So you can travel easily across Hong Kong. If you need to go airport plan early. Atleast give 2 hours for travel to airport from hotel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): close to shopping - I had a room with NO window - so you get smoking smells, construction smells, cooking smells coming through from somewhere..... Same place next time, but would pay more for window. Staff were very accommodating. Fridge where I could store milk/yogurt, hot and cold drinking water, suitcases could be stored in the afternoon after checkout; all things helped to make it easier for travellers. Sometimes long line-ups for elevator and on 13th floor, so needed to take elevator, waiting 15 minutes in a line-up.
- Ka Wai (8/5): Local review: Excellent for budget traveller - Stay: 2 night double room
Service:
- The reception is nice, helpful & disciplined. Detailed explanation
Hotel condition:
- Transferred to SkyLark of the same series (and a couple more, but I didn't note down the names) but the rooms are basically the same: very clean, good lighting
- Heater, water-dispenser (public), air-con, refrigerator, safety box & WiFi work well
- Simple decoration; wall & floor covered w/ white tiles; fresh, pleasant environment
- Problem: The “bang” sound of the shutting doors woke me in the early morning. Suggestion: add a note of closing the door quietly; place buffer b/w door & frame
- Problem: cell phone signal could be poor in SkyCity but ok for SkyLark (SmartTone died, CMCC ok)
- Small room as shown in the photos, w/ some space under the bed for baggage but not ok for many/large ones (e.g. 26”). No problem for a laptop bag, 2 bags (put on bed) & DSLR. Fair price in HK
- Simple but good hotel security, sufficient for the disciplined minorities down the building, except for intended thefts. Safe to reject offers on G/F. The order here is alright.
Location: (Very convenient)
- MTR: Exit H (underground) in ISquare, less than 5 min walk
- Another 10-15 min walk to Star Ferry (MTR exit L5)
- Bus: just outside Chongking Mansion
- Nearby meals choices: in Lok Road, Peking Road, Harbour City, inside Chongking Mansion. Various styles & prices
- Sarah (6/5): Tiny, cheap, neat, clean and friendly. - Very tiny but neat, clean and friendly. We stayed in a double room the size of a closet, but there was not a finger to put on it. In the room there was a bed, a tiny fridge, TV, free phone, free wifi, aircondition, a safe and a private bathroom. In the hall there was free drinking water dispensers. All of this for the price of cheap hostels in Hong Kong. The staff was friendly and gave us their phone numbers so that we could contact them whenever if we needed any help with whatever. During our stay in Hong Kong we also stayed at a nice Hong Kong hostel, but if you are travelling 2-3 people, I would definately choose sky hotel over any Hong Kong hostel. It is tiny, as are hostels, but it has all the comforts of a real hotel. (Except windows; our room had one facing a shaft, so not so window like, but we did se other rooms having real windows) Chungking mansion has a questionable reputation, but the worst thing I can say about the mansion is the occational long ques for the elevators. It's busy and packed with different minority groups, which makes it an excellent location for the citys' best Indian an turkish food, for resonable prices. You are offered copy watches frequently, but everyone accepts a "no" immediately.
All in all we had a pleasant stay and wish you the same. Good trip!
- Kenneth (10/5): A VERY pleasant stay - I'm very pleased to write a review of my stay at Hotel Skycity. I initially booked for 1 week then immediately extended due to the excellent service and the convenient location. I found the staff quite pleasant at all times, readily assisting the guests. My several requests for shopping and dining information were responded to cheerfully and knowledgeably. The environment was peaceful and well maintained. At all times the premises were very secure. As I mentioned to the staff, I had stayed for about 1 week approximately a year previous, had recommended the site and service and will gladly continue to do so.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Close to everything. - Room was small but comfortable,ok for a short stay. The bad was no cable or satellite tv, digital only.
- Verified traveler (6/5): good location - The address given on booking confirmation is incomplete, time wasted to locate the place. Luckily the locals are very helpful to take the guess for us. The exact name of the building is "Chung King" not "Chungki" just next to Tsim Sha Tsui Station - Nathan road exit.
