Guest Reviews
- Said (2/5): - Meme pas d'eau
- Mp (10/5): Rien dire..
- Tinytraveller (2/5): - Poor condition
Bedding had holes in and carpet dirty. Tv didn’t work. Shower in bath which was difficult to climb into due to high raised bath panel
Had the price been much lower than I wouldn’t have been annoyed
- John (4/5): - Very dirty communal bathrooms and difficult to find a shower that worked.
- jean h (6/5): Not good area of town - Not good part of town. Room small. No air conditioning. No shower curtain. Price good. Better to stay in nicer part of town.
- Alban (6/5): This hotel needs an upgrade - Not a "bad" hotel. It is about a 20-minute walk to the old harbor and the staff is friendly, helpful enough.
That being said, the room we were in had old appliances, only one (counter-intuitively located) outlet. There was no shampoo and no towels (I had to come down to the reception and ask). Also, while the web page stated that there would be a free internet connection, the router was not working.
- XZARA (2/5): Hotel miserable - Hôtel misérable qui doit être rénové de fond aux combles ,aucun confort rudimentaire ;
- MissM (6/5): Good Value - Good Location - I spent two days in Marseille for work purposes and the hotel was ideal for a place of rest as I knew I would be out for the majority of my time there. Conveniently located, nice staff and the room was basic but clean and the shower was good. Only down side was there was one socket and not enough hangers albeit good value and served it's purpose well.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Decent hotel for short stay - Rooms were basic and dated but suitable for a short stay. A 5 minute walk to the tram stop downhill and a 10-15 minute walk uphill to the subway.
- kunihiko (8/5): near central - a tram station is near.
There is a supermarket in front of the station.
around there is shopping street.
- Ewan (8/5): Simple, friendly hotel. - Very friendly service from the reception staff, room was clean and comfortable, if a little rough round the edges. Served us just fine for a quick one-night stay in Marseille.
- Viktor (8/5): - Friendly personal that spoke English, Wifi did not work during the first night, the mattress was not comfortable, relatively clean room, good value for money.
- zacht54 (4/5): Dirty - Bed had hairs in it, sink has hairs all around it and the toilet seat had hair and urine on it,
When it gets about 5/6 in the morning you hear all the noise from outside you wake up early
Bed was soft
- R6468VFpeterw (8/5): Good budget hotel - Basic, but perfectly functional. Ideal for a cheap stay. Only 10 mins walk from the Old Port, and 20 mins from the main St Charles railway station.
The staff were all excellent and can`t praise them enough.
- Florence (4/5): - HOTEL BEAUCOUP TROP VETUSTE?
Salle demain sale
Porte menteau casser
- K2213MDmarkd (8/5): Good location and friendly staff - The central location makes this budget hotel ideal. Generally clean but could use a bit of modernisation.. But good value for money. No breakfast but plenty of cafes nearby. Ask for a room towards the main street for more light.
- Drum_Davey (8/5): Ideal Hotel For A Short Stay In Marseille - The Hotel de la Prefecture is quite easy to find and is roughly a 15-20 minute walk from the train station. The staff at the reception were very helpful and polite and gave me access to the WiFi straight away.
My room was absolutely fine with all the amenities that I would need including my own bathroom. Of course being in the centre of Marseille, there can be quite a bit of noise at night but thankfully it wasn't enough to disturb my sleep. You could hear the plumbing system though when other guests were turning on taps or flushing the toilet.
The biggest plus for me was the location as it is only a 15 minute walk to the Old Port where the heart of Marseille is. Along the route there are many interesting shops and patisseries where you can grab a croissant for breakfast at a very good price.
Overall, the hotel served my needs very well and I'd be happy to go back there the next time I visit Marseille.
- nuno945 (8/5): Nice choice for a cheap night - Nice hotel located in the city center, 20 minutes walking from either the main train station and from the city center (Old port). It's also close to one Marseille's main streets, so you'll have shops, supermarkets, cafés and restaurants all around. The rooms are not luxurious and have only the minimum needed, but that's what we paid for so I don't think we can complain.
Nice option if you don't want to spend that much and are looking for a good location.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice place to stay - in a good part of the city. Can't ask for more given the price. Would recommend to anyone not too fussed about the hotel, more interested in exploring the city. Staff were also very helpful and informative.
- monay936 (4/5): Wouldn't recommend - Place was hard to find. The sign was not obvious from the street. Location was good but 5 minutes up the road you'd find yourself in a not so good area. The service was terrible. Guy at reception didn't seem to know what he was doing. My room was facing the street so it was really noisy, even with the window shut (didn't shut properly though). Room was a simply double room, bathroom was ok. I definitely don't recommend this place. One or two nights stay is doable but otherwise, look for something else.
- teffbarchietto (6/5): Average - A clean, average hotel. It's a bit old fashioned and the elevator is the smallest I've ever been into. The staff is not the most friendly people in the world but overall the hotel is comfortable.
I only had a bad experience with another guest in the hotel. I was staying with a friend (she and I both girls in our twenties) and two rooms away from ours there was a man staying solo. On our first night, we were closing our bedroom door and he came out and wanted to leave with us. We went downstairs together and he had to go back because he had forgotten his phone. We left the hotel quickly and when we were a block away or so, he caught up with us. He wanted to go with us and we said "no". He insisted, though, and then told us "see you back in the hotel". We were really uncomfortable and left. When we were returning to the hotel about two hours later, we saw him looking out the window, waiting for us I guess. We decided to stay a bit in the lobby. When we returned to our room, we tried making no noise whatsoever but the key wouldn't fit in. 5 seconds later the man opened the door and started talking to us again and wanted to give us his number. We said "no" again and quickly got inside. We didn't see him again, luckily, but he sure gave us a bad first impression of the ambiance of the hotel.
It's location is good; the metro is a 3 minutes walk and two stops away from the train station Marseille St Charles. You can easily access to the main commercial streets towards the VIeux Port and if you go the other way, to a nice quartier with lots of bus stops. However, in the evening it can be lonely and a little dangerous to get back from the Port via those streets when every store is closed and the ambiance is not nice.
- 981gracep (6/5): Affordable - We needed a hotel at this location and the other options were much more expensive. The room is very small with barely a small night table. The room was clean, but the rest of the hotel was not exactly very nice. For the price it should be better. For one night was ok...
- JayhawkAbroad (10/5): Nice room and service for the price - I was very satisfied for the price and what I expected from a typical 1 star hotel. I would recommend this if you are traveling on a budget but want to be in walking distance of the Vieux Port and have a decent private room and bath.
My wife and I were simply hoping for a cheap option that was well located in Marseille city. We wanted a private room and bathroom so we wanted more than a hostel. This hotel satisfied that and a little bit more. I made a mistake on the original booking and booked 2 rooms for 2 nights instead of 1. They probably could have just taken my money for my mistake but they fixed it with no problem. The rooms were sparse but the bathroom was clean and the air conditioning worked very well which was nice on a hot weekend. Lastly, their receptionist Pascal was extremely friendly to me. He spoke English and gave me great and detailed recommendations for visiting the Calanques, the best museums, and where to dine that was not on the Vieux Port (i.e. not so touristy). We explored many sights and felt confident with the trains and buses because of this and had a great dinner at a nice independent restaurant.
- 153anttiv (10/5): Perfect for budget travellers - Receptionists were always there and spoke fluent english and were helpful. The room was decently enough decorated and suited the price perfectly. We're 2 backpavking travellers and truly enjoyed our 1 night stay here in Marseilles
- Eric or Rick (2/5): Hotel - So far this is not a hotel but a doss house. I will be telling my friends of the standards you are sinking to.
- emilyg146 (4/5): Not shocked for the price - Booked last minute and wanted a cheap option...
The hotel is in a fine location... not fantastic, but maybe a 15 minute walk to the main port area.
Check in was OK... we were presented with 4 keys and told to choose a room... 2 were on the 1st floor and 2 on the 4th. We were told if we wanted the wifi we should choose the 1st floor but the 4th had less street noise. We checked out the 2 first floor rooms and they were equally smelly and small so we just picked one and went with it.
Wifi was horrible... impossible to connect to and slow. Room smelled obscenely of stale smoke... bad enough to give us both bad headaches every time we entered and cause us to keep the window open whenever possible. The level of cleanliness in general was questionable, but that in and of itself wasn't enough to detract from the hotel value.
Bed was fine. Room was quite small with only one outlet in existence. Street noise was tolerable. However, the last night we were there we were awoken by extremely loud neighbors yelling and singing. It was so loud it sounded like they were in our room and it was impossible to sleep. After much banging around we determined they were across the hall, not even next to us sharing a wall! They must have been paper thin doors. As it was 5am, we asked the receptionist to ask them to stop but he was too timid to actually knock and just agreed with us that they were being unacceptably loud.
If that wasn't enough, the shower was unacceptable. It was a hose and a head, but there was no attachment to hang the head from in the shower, so you had to hold it. This would have been manageable, but the shower head was so mangled and broken that water shot out from it from both sides and the front, meaning water was shooting out in at least three separate directions at all times. Each shower was a true feat after which the bathroom would be soaked. It was best to not keep any dry things in the bathroom at that time, including towels.
Staff in general was rather apathetic... usually they were off in the little sitting room watching TV or socializing with their various friends who hung out around the front desk. Free luggage storage was nice, though. Would not stay again or recommend to anyone.
- LK (6/5): For the budget traveler - This hotel is situated in a neighborhood, with a few restaurants nearby. The shower is tiny and has no door, which is really strange. There is no AC. It wasn't very clean.
- ravw2014 (8/5): Affordable, comfortable hotel - Great, affordable place to stay in Marseille. Very friendly reception staff. Walkable distance to some great nearby cafes and the Marina. Elevator is old and seems a bit unsafe (but at least they have an elevator, unlike many other older-style hotels in Europe!). Rooms are spacious and have a romantic feel to them. They are clean and some rooms offer a quaint view of the streets. Very good free wifi.
Worth a stay for young people/students travelling on a budget and even for couples looking for a romantic getaway to Marseille.
- 452annis (6/5): Good quality for this cheap price - + cheap
+ basicly clean
+ clean towels every day
- very discusting air conditioning machine, maybe moldy
- stains in white sheets (probably just won't leave off in washing machine)
Would not take my boyfriend to a romantic holiday but with friend and low budget it was good! :)
- MariaCamilla (6/5): Basic, nothing special - The hotel has a good central location, and was easy to find (by the side of a quite noisy road...). The staff seemed a bit careless though, and was watching movies or surfing on the internet a lot. Our room smelled like cigarette smoke, and so did our clothes after our stay. The room was basic, but fine and so was the bathroom. It was a big problem to get hot water for our baths and we had the receptionist help us a couple of times. The bed was, to us, very uncomfortable.
- AlexVita (10/5): very good - Very nice place to stay, staff are really friendly and helpful always smiling and nice, rooms are clean and nice, cleaning regularly and providing clean staff. Location is very good just few minutes from port. Nice place to stay. Thanks
- EricaT221 (4/5): Less than average - Air-conditioning was cold enough during summer. Carpets were dirty. Bathtub had spots that cannot be cleaned. No kettle provided in rooms. Rundown building. Survivable for a night or 2 but not long stays.
- LondonNIrish (8/5): Very happy - Location perfect - close to tube and walking distance to Castellane. Room small but clean and bed was comfortable. The area is a little rough round the edges but felt completely safe. Air conditioning could have been a little stronger.
- RachaelLKY (6/5): Good location room ok - The hotel was located in city centre, just 2 metro stations away from central station and 10min walk to the harbour, Carrefour and laundry were around the corner.
The light sensor in the corridor was just too stupid. Light gone when I still had half way to walk and I had to open the room door in dark literally.
The room was very basic as expected. The room and bathroom were very stuffy, obviously the ventilation didn't work well and air-con was quite old and dirty. Carpet was stained.
Good wifi, speedy with strong signal.
- marianni14 (8/5): Good and moderate hostel - We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and I must say it worked really well as our purpose of traveling was not to spend time at the hotel but to explore the city and use the hotel more as a place to sleep!
Hotel is modest and not modern at all but the room was clean and tidy and we couldnt find anything negtive really. The bathroom was clean and tidy as well with clean towels, some soap and mugs. The bed was cosy and gave you a good night sleep. Some street noises came from outside though.
Hotel staff was friendly and helpful and were able to serve you in english too. There was a coffee machine at the lobby and some maps and info sheets as well!
Hotel de la Prefecture was located quite near the city center and there was a fast access to the main shopping street. The good location was the best feature of this hotel as well as good price per night. The nearest Metro station is 5 mins walk away and it doesn take long to walk to the Vieux Port (old port) which is the main attraction for most tourists.
I think this hotel was good for our trip and i would recommend it to people who are not afraid of being in a modest/old hotel and who need a place to sleep and shower with good price!
- Heikki_U (8/5): All right - The hotel room was basic but clean. We arrived by car and the staff reserved a free parking slot for us (they have one for the hotel just outside the door). They were kind enough to hold it for us when we took the car one day to visit the beach zone. I recommend the hotel for its price/quality & great location!
