- Brianne (10/5): It was exactly what I expected and I am happy and did and will return. - No breakfast. Location if okay. Nothing
- Eleuty (7/5): Basic motel - No breakfast provided. In an old area at the edge of downtown. Dollar tree across the street. A 2.0 star motel that I'd rate as a 2.5 on a 5 scale. Basic nothing fancy. Can hear the train go thru in the morning & evening.
- Randy (8/5): Very good -
- Barbara (1/5): Bad - Nothing we slept in our vehicle. There were other people in the hotel outside doing drugs. We had to stay outside to watch our belongings. We only stayed long enough to take showers and we left. Very scarey area! All of it. We never touch either bed, we were asleep in the parking lot, we stayed a total of 3 hours in our moving vehicles.
- Michael (8/5): Would stay agsin - Room was comfortable. Pet friendly. Smoking rooms available. Coffee available in-room. They charge more for a smoking room
- Kimberly (7/5): Good - It is an old building. Probably not the best part of town. It looks terrible when you drive in but the rooms have been remodeled and it is very clean. Mexican restaurant next door.
- Christine (7/5): It was adequate for a short overnight stay on a long trip. - Rooms were recently renovated and quiet. Only one choice of restaurant nearby.
- Douglas (2/5): Run away - Awful
- Gee (8/5): Very good - Front desk guy was helpful and interactive during check in
- Javier (2/5): - Very bad place to stay rooms smell bad the location is not safe.
- Philip (7/5): Good - Location Dated facility
- raymond (10/5): - You charged me and so Expedia, who owes me. Refund?
- Karen (5/5): Passable -
- Vanessa (5/5): Passable - The front desk guy was very nice. The room was a bit dirty, and there was a lot of noise.
- Tim (8/5): - This place is clean, just a little traffic noise at night. All in all not bad just passing through for one night.
- Cindy (4/5): Would not stay there again. - Not a good place for a single female traveler. The shower was too small and very dark. The floor was sticky. Even the tv guide was sticky.
- William (8/5): Comfortable - No breakfast offered
- Kurt (10/5): Exceptional - Clean and comfortable
Extremely friendly Nothing bad to say
- Jerry (8/5): Very good -
- Tricia (7/5): Good - A place to sleep. Noise, smell and the floor was flithy
- Darla (8/5): Would have no problems staying here again! - The room has clearly recently been updated, the walls were nice and clean, the sheets and blankets also seemed to be fairly new, and the furniture was in pretty good shape. The man who checked us in, the paper we received said his name was Owen and I hope that's the right employee, was amazing. There was an issue when we entered the room and he was very quick to fix it for us even though it's not really his job, I'll elaborate more in the section for what I didn't like. Our biggest issue during our stay came right at the start when we entered the room: our room hadn't been turned over from the previous guest. One of the beds had clearly been slept in and the coffee machine was still dirty from previous use. We immediately went to the man who checked us in and told him the issue and he jumped in to fix it for us. The rest of the rooms were unfortunately booked so he couldn't just transfer us over, so he took the time to change the sheets, clean the coffee maker, and cleaned the bathroom even though he's not part of the maid staff and admitted it had been a long time since he'd had to make up a hotel bed (though he did a great job despite being out of practice and having to use king size sheets on a queen bed). He was quick and professional and very apologetic. If he hadn't been so good about it our review for this hotel would probably not be so kind. Other than that issue our stay was pretty nice! The beds are a little hard, but if they're interested in changing that some mattress toppers would fix that right up.
- tomasz (10/5): - We stayed at the Royal Inn during the 2024 solar eclipse and it was great. A nice, clean room, very helpful and friendly staff, especially the lady at the reception desk. Highly recommended!
- Margie (1/5): Never staying at flea bag motels I guess. - Location Filthy dirty. Room needed to be vacuumed. My body is riddled with bed bug bites. Room 121 is infested.
- Howell (1/5): Bad -
- Legato (3/5): An unpleasant, foul smelling, and nasty experience to avoid. - Okay, only if you need to rest for a few hours, nothing more. Dirty mattresses. Stains on the bed sheets. Bed sheets smelling foul. I had to sleep on top on the bed with regular clothing on and a hat and not under the sheets, because the smell on the pillows and bed overall, including the sheets, blanket mattress, and boxspring smelled god awful.
The motel is also located in a sketchy area, also located near a railroad track, that prevents people from sleeping when a train passes by every 1-3 hours at random. The overall smell of the room is not so pleasant. I had to go across the street and buy some air freshener spray and lingering scents.
Under the mattress were no bed bugs (thank goodness), but some brown residue that looked disgusting. The same residue were also inside of the drawers.
- David (8/5): Very good -
- David (10/5): - The young lady who checked us in was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and had everything we needed. A great value.
- Cassandra (4/5): Disappointing -
- Jessica (3/5): Never again! Renting a room you can't sleep in defeats the purpose of renting a room! - The main reason I chose this motel over others of the same price was the non-carpet flooring. I though it would be less smelly. Even though this was a Non-Smoking room it reeked of cigarette smell. So much so that I could barely sleep and opened a non-screened, ground level window to get fresh air (which was most likely not the safest thing to do). Had it not been so late I would have left. Also just very dingy in general, dirty light switches, and ash marks on the floor.
- Villarreal (6/5): Pleasant - The pillows, beds and the price. The slick bath tub.
- Mario (10/5): - This was my 3rd stay at the Royal Inn. The rooms are clean, the area is quite and safe. Will be back.
- Richard (7/5): Good -
- Angie (7/5): Kindness and helpful staff. - No bkft For the price and availability for pets this motel exceeded all my expectations.
- Sylvia (6/5): Pleasant - Room was clean and quiet and good price. Neighborhood is pretty scruffy.
- Machaelaholly (5/5): Just spend a little more for the better hotel. - I liked the price, I guess. The beds felt like a bag of metal and rocks. The staff was awful. The location was awful, middle of the worst part of town. My child and I kept getting followed and harassed by drug addicts.
- Self (7/5): Good - Friendly staff and clean room
- Luigi (9/5): Friendly staff, clean facility and very affordable - Friendly staff, cleanliness, close to convenience stores. My bed mattress wasn’t comfortable it wasn’t rigid enough
- Brent (5/5): It was a good value for the money. - Obviously an older building built on a highway before the interstate.
Was still very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Location.
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Gale (8/5): Clean, comfortable and very reasonably priced. Just what we needed! - This is not a high end hotel but it is very clean and comfortable! My husband and I were traveling and needed to stop for the night. Most of the hotels we usually stay in were booked. It was out of desperation we chose the Royal Inn but it will be intentional next time! Owen greeted us with a smile and warm welcome. He is an asset to the company! It suited our needs perfectly!
- Jeff (8/5): A over night stay while traveling for work - Clean and kept up! N/a
- Thompson (6/5): Supporting a small business is why I chose Royal Inn. Room was VERY clean, but bed not very comfortable. While I under - My room was very clean and had a mini fridge and microwave. The pet fee was only 10.00/night. I was able to park right outside my door which made bringing the suitcase in and out very easy. The bed was only so-so. The mattress was clearly past it’s prime but not impossible to sleep on once you found a spot. The TV is in an awkward place on the wall. If it could swing out, it would be better. The table and the fridge/microwave cabinet in the room was made of pressed board that had warped on the bottoms likely due to moisture issues.
- Randy (2/5): Scary death hotel. - The hotel looked like someone washed the walls with a garden hose. Was mold behind the white paint and holes I. The ceiling. The bed was uncomfortable. Reminded me of a hotel where you die in the end. I slept with my shoes and clothes on. I also slept on top of the blankets. I was worried I would catch something. I complained to hotels dot com but they were unable to help. Oh well.
- Linda (10/5): Exceptional - Staff was exceptional!! Nothing
.. everything was great.
- Linda (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was exceptional!! Nothing ... everything was great.
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (9/5): Superb - Very nice place to stay.
- Mario (10/5): - The room was clean and well equipped - bed was super comfortable and the staff super friendly. I forgot a polo shirt and a couple of T shirts hanging in the closet - called the office and they were quite happy to safe keep them for me for when I return. Will be back in a few months.
- Vince (3/5): Poor - People outside drinking and throwing bicycles. We didn't feel safe out side. The person was also staying there
- Yale (8/5): - Royal was perfectly nice. Punam, the owner is super nice! Expedia f'd me, so I'm done with them after many years.
- Paul (9/5): Available and I am worth the price - friendly, clean and comfortable AC was noisy which is usually the case and the location wasn’t the best but there’s a great Mexican restaurant right across the street
- Jessica (8/5): Very good -
- cheryl (10/5): - Comfortable for our overnight stay….location was accessible from our route….polite & friendly attendant at check in
- Halyna (8/5): Fair - Staff was friendly Price was a bit high.
5 miles from the exit.
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- Emily (6/5): Pleasant -
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very basic but functional, clean - NO amenities
- Robert (8/5): - The queen room was very clean and fairly quiet. For the price it was a nice stay. New bathroom fixtures and newly painted. Coffee in room.
- Lisa (2/5): Very poor -
- Jack (2/5): Very poor -
- Donald (8/5): - I like the comfort and quietness of the place. Didnt like that they dont offer breakfast!
- Patti (2/5): - Water was lukewarm. Was supposed to have a bathtub only a shower. The bed had pubic hair in it. Couldn't stay and would give a cred it for the room. Filthy Room!!!!!!!!!!
- James (8/5): Worth saving more than $100 👍 - Clean, spacious, simple for one-night stay while traveling. Excellent TV and internet. Off the “beaten I-64 path” saved us more than $100. Across the street is a very good Mexican restaurant — again “off the beaten path” of facing a Main Street in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
- Lyle (8/5): Very good -
- Anne (7/5): It was okay because the price and dog fee were wonderful. - The price and the lower pet fee. The crawling worm/bug on the bed. But our dog likely brought it in the room after her walk outside. The lack of warm/ hot water in the shower. A cold shower isn’t comfortable. The noise of the ice machine that was in the hall across from our door.
- Kathleen (7/5): Late night in, early out, cheap stay. - We wanted an inexpensive stay, it was simple and about what we expected. Very little ambiance, but for the price of a one night stay, it was fine.
- Dawn (8/5): - Very affordable. Staff very nice and helpful. Stayed in one of their newly remodeled rooms. Only 6 channels on the TV
- Natalie (2/5): Never stay here - Horrible. Rotting food in the fridge. Dried old food in the microwave. Dirty shower that didn’t drain. Dirty and walls and surfaces of the room and fronts of drawers sticky and dirty. Front desk was not helpful and would not let me speak to anyone other than the person who was at front desk who said he could do nothing about this. To top it all off, I became congested and nauseated from the rotting food and dirty room and it didn’t subside for two hours after leaving the room, which we left earlier than planned due to the disgusting conditions
- Patricia (9/5): Superb -
