Guest Reviews
- Michael (10/5): Cozy and rustic - The location is good just 10 min away from alpine meadows. It is a beautiful view of the river from the room. The room was smaller than it looked in the picture and bathroom was outdated but all functional and rustic feeling to it. I have no complain for good price I paid. Grab and go breakfast was really good and highly appreciated it before hitting the slopes. We dined at the restaurant too. It was a good experience.
- James (8/5): - Having the Truckee River right outside of your room was wonderful. Really enjoyed sitting on the balcony and have breakfast.
- Kathy (8/5): - The staff are very friendly and professional. The lodge is on the older side but well maintained. Little things like a drapery hanging off the rod were not really a problem. There are condos across the river that can look straight in to your room so having the window and door open for cool air is a problem. No AC in the warm summer so that is a must. I would stay again, great value for the area.
- Linda (10/5): - Enjoyed our stay, our balcony overlooked the Truckee River.
A screen was needed for the bathroom window.
- Peter (8/5): Rustic/Charming/Great staff - The staff was friendly, accommodating, and just lovely to engage with; from reception (Danielle/Alicia/Stephanie) to Kat at the restaurant and Asa as our server on my birthday. Everyone we crossed paths with during our two week stay was terrific.
The Lodge has charm and our room had some minor updates (new fridge and Keurig machine) but if you come here, be sure and ask for a remodeled/updated room. Rustic charm is great and this place has it for sure!
Unfortunately, the room we were given had not been repaired/updated/remodeled in many years and because of that the condition of the room and bathroom reflected some neglect. We mentioned our concerns at check out and in a follow up conversation were told the quick fixes were implemented right away…so that tells me the staff care and are very responsive!
The food was sublime. Everything I ate was delicious. The prices are comparable to other restaurants in the area, so be prepared.
The Truckee River is the big draw and if/when we come back to this area, we’ll want to enjoy this beautiful place again.
- thomas (4/5): Beat ! Needs substantial upgrade. - Generally speaking, the place needs substantial upgrading, not just in the rooms (which look to be 1980's vintage) but in the entire property: cracked concrete, peeling paint, this could be an interesting place with some real investment. The restaurant was good with very good bar service
- Christopher (8/5): - I like this place. It is however like stepping back in time 50 years. Rooms are a little outdated, but the staff is kind and the kitchen is good.
- Mark (10/5): - Everyone was very friendly and the bar/restaurant staff were very nice.
- Natalie (10/5): - My room over looks the river it was just perfect what I needed to rest and not difficult to get to the ski lifts can take Tart or Mountaineer free transportation. I will definitely stay here again in the future.
- Jennifer (10/5): Best New Year’s Trip - It was beautiful! The whole place was covered in snow. Or balcony was at least covered in a foot of snow and felt like a picture from a book! Everything was quiet and peaceful. Also had New Years Eve dinner at the Lodge and it was tasteful
- gary (6/5): - Staff Great ... beds alittle rough, wobbly. Dissapointed about the river, which is what i was looking forward to , but thats mother nature..Danille was great!,
- John (2/5): - Nothing
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had a wonderful dinner in the hotel restaurant by the Truckee River. Room was up to date and clean
- wensheng (6/5): - Rooms are too closed to the chimney of the restaurant.
- Bethsy L (8/5): Great view - Great place with a great view. Unfortunately it did only have a portable fan and the room got really hot.
- Taylor (8/5): River Ranch summer stay - Stayed here for a wedding in Tahoe City area. Very fun atmosphere since this is the take out point for rafting on the Truckee River in June and July. Restaurant is very good but pricey. Room was clean and comfortable. Second floor Rooms with balconies are best. Road noise noticeable during day but not at night. Very friendly and attentive staff. Property a bit worn overall but has a wonderful location and is more inexpensive than many properties in an expensive region.
- Gustavo (10/5): - Friendly, nice staff; clean, spacious room. Location on the Truckee River with bike/jogging path; awesome.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Bathroom tiles had mold between them.
- chandra (6/5): - Overlooks truckee river and thats the only plus; carpets are dirty, old. I wouldnt stay there again for that price unless i was desperate
- Holly (10/5): - Lovely staff. Great food!
- Lisa (10/5): - Very awesome feel at the hotel and restaurant there
Would stay again
- George (6/5): - Room appeared to need an update. Curtains but no blinds on the patio slider window. Wi-Fi cut out multiple times during second night of stay.
- Inaki (10/5): - Great location and friendly competent staff
- Luis (10/5): Comfortable cozy cabin like feeling - Our stay was very cozy with a view of the river. Comfortable and close to amenities. Felt like being in a cabin in the middle of the woods. I highly recommend and I will be using this spot more often. Can’t beat the pricing either the sound proofing wasn’t great since it’s right next to the highway but there was not enough traffic coming through for it to be an issue
- Tate (10/5): - The front desk people (Danielle) was very helpful and extremely pleasant. Thank you for all your help. My brother and I had a very fun memorable trip!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - the room is very small, but the price is very reasonable given the location.
- Anya (10/5): Great Independent Old Fashioned Lodge - Wonderful Hotel with absolutely amazing management. The restaurant was so good and beautiful, we can't wait to come back!
- Laura (6/5): - Love the River Ranch bar and restaurant but rooms need an update. Bed was crazy bouncy and bathroom outdated by 20 years. Very clean though. Breakfast is grab and go because "covid" even though restaurant is packed for dinner. Cost cutting like this is getting old. Beautiful spot on the river that would benefit from a little attention.
- Kurt (8/5): - great staff
- Brian (10/5): - Staff was very nice and accommodating.
- William (10/5): - I had a great time at River Ranch
- Steve (10/5): - They where very nice we felt welcome so thank you I well go back again
- Stuart (8/5): - The River view and the park and walk along the river are spectacular!
- Kathleen (8/5): - Nostalgic return to this iconic lodge. The unique location on the Truckee River provides great relation. They staff are delightful and the food is very good. Sadly no breakfast.
- Rayna (10/5): Love it! - My favorite when we're in the area. Love the location, the property, the rooms, the staff... Just all around great place to stay.
- Therese (8/5): - Balcony outside the room overlooking the river is wonderful. Would have been nice to have little frig and microwave in the room, but not that big of a deal. Dinner prices in the restaurant were high. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Happy place!
- Christina (8/5): - Beautiful, unique setting. Loved sitting on balcony watching the river. Older property.
- Patric (6/5): - some of the rooms were needing a lot of repair and upgrading.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everyone visiting the area should at least spend a couple nights at least at River Ranch Lodge.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very unique location. The bar and restaurant are awesome and it was so much fun to watch people coming down the River. The hotel is in need of some updates and there was no AC or refrigerator in the room. If you are looking for a rustic, fun place to stay, this is the place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cozy, romantic, with river rushing around the property. Very beautiful bar/restaurant on the river.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fantastic front desk service! The room was clean.
- James (8/5): love coming here year after year - Great people working there and great service.
- thomas (10/5): Highly recommend - Beautiful setting, very convenient to Alpine Meadows/Squaw Valley.
- Molly (10/5): We loved it here!!! So quiet, and cozy - Delightful!!
- maria d (8/5): Confortable and friendly - Staff was wonderful and friendly. Room was comfortable and very nice view of the River.
It’s a bit old but it was a very nice stay.
- Carmen (6/5): - Mattress needs to be replaced
Bathroom fixtures need replacement
Hot water for shower or bath was minimal
Not enough hot water and it wasn’t hot enough
Little refrigerators are needed
There needs to be a valet who can meet the clients needs after 5pm and before 9am if a client is paying $175 for one night
- Jason (8/5): - It was great overall but a few things were wrong the coffee maker in our room didn’t work right and the last 2 night people in room above us were jumping around all ours of the night sounded like kids jumping around
- Elizabeth (10/5): Beautiful views - The room was very rustic and had a beautiful view of the river. The outdoor patio restaurant served wonderful food and drink. It was located close to Tahoe City. I would definitstay there again. I was surprised that there was no air conditioning, refrigerator or microwave included in the room.
- SeeTuttle (8/5): - Enjoyable riverfront location and a historic lodge. The atmosphere at the River Ranch Lodge is bustling during the day when rafters are coming off the river and the back patio is full of guests enjoying the bar and lunch/ dinner menu items but by night time the crowds are gone and guests are treated to hearing just the babbling of the Truckee River outside their rooms. Guest room decor is charming in a rustic mountain lodge way.
- Ken (8/5): - If you go into it with realistic expectations you won't be disappointed. It's quaint and a little outdated, but that's also part of its charm. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful! The location is very convenient and you can sit on the balcony and watch the river rush by (summer months).
If you are accustomed to high-end hotels, perhaps this isn't the ideal place for you. If you want a place to stay that's convenient and reasonably priced, check it out.
- MC (8/5): - Very friendly staff upon check in. Very hard to reach someone via phone prior to arrival, never answer phone. Prices too high (300/night) for the service they provide. You could stay at a full service hotel at that rate. Few amenities, no room service for food. If you need something for your room, no one works the front desk in the morning or at night so you have a small window to request shampoo, toilet paper, etc. You are on your own!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Cute place. Very nice staff. Nice dinner at the restaurant. Pleasant view of the river. Just a few minute drive to the Olympic Village area. Somewhat dated in places but not run down.
- Wais (10/5): - Very beautiful location on the river. Close to Truckee and lake Tahoe.
Pricey though if you eat there and rooms. But sometimes you can get specials. But well worth it.
- Karen (6/5): - Beautiful location on the Truckee River.
Very noisy, busy during the day with rafters hanging out out outside our patio.
- Brenda (2/5): Nice location - needs to be updated - bed horrible - The beds and the hotel itself needs to be updated - severely updated!!!
- Bobbette (8/5): - This was our first time staying here. It was a very nice stay, however for the price, the hotel is in need of some remodeling and upgrades. I say that but also know there are many people coming and going wet after a day of rafting or skiing. The area is just beautiful.
- Carmen (10/5): wedding guests - bed mattress too soft
- JeAnn (6/5): - The area is beautiful but the hotel is overpriced. The mattresses were uncomfortable, but the room was very clean with no frills
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Right next to the river which was very nice.
A little bit of traffic noise at night.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We took our bikes and there is a great bike path right outside the hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great room, right in the river. Awesome quaintness and decorated just as you would expect a lodge to be
- Susan (8/5): River Ranch Lodge. - Lovely spot on the river--almost literally! There isn't an elevator and a narrow staircase so getting luggage upstairs was a challenge. Situated next door to Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley, it is perfect for skiing. The staff at River Ranch is awesome.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice staff, good location, but property was old and Internet was very unreliable.
- MICHAEL (6/5): - great location right on the river so close to Homewood and Squaw Valley. Lodging and restaurant a little pricey for what you get; the place could use a few updates in the room and it would be nice if the beds had a blanket and a comforter; i found myself switching from being too hot and too cold with just a heavy comforter. Nice staff and lots of charm tho!
- June (10/5): - Beautiful view of the Truckee River and lovely snow!
- Lori (10/5): Rustic River Views - Room was comfy and cute, great views of the river. Mushroom soup, served in the restaurant, was to die for. Only down side was the short time window for full menu service for lunch and dinner. No breakfast served. Fortunately the soup was on the bar menu. Will stay there again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Danielle was great and accommodating. Rooms are fine and had what is needed especially for one night stay. Restaurant on premises was a plus. Food was fine but it took nearly an hour before we got appetizers! The table next to us had a similar issue with the waiter.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Perfect location for Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley. Easy late check in, comfortable rooms for the price. Would stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Riverfront lodge with fine restaurant. Stayed one night in a room overlooking the river. Bison ribs were very good, salmon was even better. Friendly staff, easy checking in and out. Convenient location near Alpine Meadows Ski resort. In the morning we had breakfast across the road café. Hoping to come back to this lodge again:)
- James (10/5): Paradise - Everyone was great, we were greeted and very well taken care of when we arrived....everything just got better through out our stay. We have been coming here for over ten years and can't wait to come back again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect Tahoe-esque hotel. Warm and friendly staff. Cozy and comfortable room. Having the Truckee river literally below you was beautiful and relaxing. Only suggestion would be more chairs within the room and hooks available for winter gear. Would definitely recommend and return for susequent stays!
- Donovan (10/5): - Great hotel with a great staff. The restaurant was extremely good as well. Great spot to stay.
- BG (8/5): - Nice location on the river near many great attractions
- Paul (8/5): - The lodge rooms next to the river was amazing, the bar needs some new carpet or hardwood floors, food was okay not great the location was amazing close to everything we wanted to do. The breakfast buffet was cold and coffee was lukewarm (I must have a hot cup to start my day) The staff were absolutely great. Thanks
