Guest Reviews
- qian (10/5): - The beach is just across the road , my flight got disrupted so I arrived after check in hours but staff set things up for me and all went very well It's a bit noisy in the morning from the traffic but by California stranded it's fairly good

- Froilan (9/5): EXCELENTE UBICACIÓN, atención de primera - Excelente Vista, ubicación
- Syuzanna (10/5): -
- francoise (1/5): Bruyant trop cher équipement minimaliste - Rien La chambre pour 258€ dans un motel c’est aussi bien à 60€
- Varni (3/5): Ok for price + location. You can walk to ocean + pier - Location + price Not really comfortable + not dirty but old grimy feel
- Lori (9/5): Good stay - The balcony The traffic
- Solaug Anita (5/5): Flott beliggenhet, alt for lite service, ingen informasjon.
- vacaylife4me (2/5): Horrible experience and dirty rooms - DO NOT stay here! I feel like I’m
Back in high school staying in a motel where we should cram 15 people into a room because we had no money. I don’t care if you paid for my room- I would never stay here again. When we got here, they said oh the keys are in the room it’s unlocked. Let yourself in…..To a room that was not clean! The bed had still been slept in and the shower had towels on the floor. Yes, I’m sure the housekeeping was late but at the same time I don’t wanto to see that or pay for that, or know that I’m staying somewhere that doesn’t care about having clean rooms before they give them to their customers. When they remade the bed, they didn’t even put clean comforters on. It was a clean bottom sheet and that’s it. I would rather sleep in my car, then stay at this hotel. Do better M Malibu.
- Christian (10/5): -
- Nicholas (8/5): Great stay! - Location I could hear the person next door snoring
- Albert (10/5): Malibu rising and new family connections - Location to my SoCal family was perfect. Plenty of activities within short distance.
Of course the mesmorizing malibu beaches.
Ease of checkin/out even for me not tech savy
Places to eat,buy snacks for room, newly opened organic grocery store and the fantastic tasting all organic D'Amore pizza all within couple blocks walking distance Actually not having in person contact with staff but thats not a knock. It was more of a timing issue on my arrival.(caveat Staff was available by text seemless in my stay as to my needs)
Road construction in area made it difficult to find entrance but any map ap will get you right there to a beautiful updated mid century modern place to stay

- Julie (6/5): - Hotel staff were very friendly, the room was very clean, and incredibly loud. It’s an old building, which meant you could hear the guests above you (rudely at 1am…) added to the street noise (which was unbelievable even with earphones) and the AC which wasn’t efficient, it made sleeping next to impossible. Great location, but won’t be coming back.
- Jaimes (10/5): -
- Donald Alan (5/5): -
- Danielle (8/5): Great time - The M is a great place for a Malibu stay
- Violet (2/5): - As a single traveler, this place felt unsafe. I was given a room on the ground level. Even after addressing the fact that my room smelled and the AC was not working properly, I was given an option of moving over to the next room (which was also ground level). The hotel was completely empty, and yet they cannot upgrade my room for any reason.
- Leanna (10/5): Cute little Inn close to the Pepperdine campus. We'll come stay again. - Nice location. Walkable to coffee shops, restaurants, beaches, and the pier.
- georg (9/5): -
- Agustina (1/5): The room was unclean. I couldn't sleep last night because my whole body was itching. I woke up this morning covered - The location was ok. The room was unclean. I couldn't sleep last night because my whole body was itching. I woke up this morning covered in bug bites. My friends came to check and its bed bugs. The management refused to help. There is no one on the place to help during check in or check out. Horrible experience. Do not come here.
- WATARU (10/5): -
- Britta (8/5): -
- Leo (9/5): Love this hotel. Will come back again - Nice and clean. Good location Nothing
- Marianna (5/5): I will not stay there again - Close to the beach To close to the road
- Flint (6/5): - A little overpriced for what it is it's very clean. The staff is very helpful.
- Mark (10/5): Best stay in Malibu. - Location was excellent as was the staff. Nothing
- Tania (5/5): clean tidy but facilities offered didn’t work, we only book where wifi is offered so not happy - wifi didn’t work for either of us .. first time on holiday we encountered this . TV was either set at a very very low volume or remote was broken so bit disappointed really facilities offered could of worked
- Charlie (10/5): Exceptional - ease nothing
- Denise (10/5): - Right off PCH. Clean and safe little motel by the beach.
- Chapman (8/5): Very good -
- Adam (7/5): Good - Clean room
Comfortable bed
tile floors (carpets are no bueno in my opinion).
Large bathroom and large shower. Spotty WiFi.
TV kept buffering
TV mount was not secured to the wall.
Road noise.
- Ole (8/5): Very good -
- Kezia (6/5): Nice spot in Malibu. - Cute and historic No beach access without a drive
No desk staff. No pool towels. No chocolate which was promised. No easy to communicate w the staff.
- Paulsen (10/5): Exceptional -
- STEPHEN (2/5): - Over priced for substandard facility
- Paul (10/5): Affordable, quaint spot in Malibu with easy highway and beach access. I prefer MCM smaller hotels and this fit the bill. - Convenient location in Malibu with beach access right across PCH. I prefer smaller hotels. The pool area was quaint and not crowded. The observation deck up the hill was a nice touch to watch the sunset.
- Michelle (4/5): Basic motel for mucho dinero - Within walking distance of breakfast at Malibu Cafe on the Malibu Pier.
Nice to see a classic mid-century California beach motel, with its big banana trees, revived instead of razed for ugly stuff like most of the surrounding PCH.
It was clean. The shower worked, the toilet flushed, there was hot water, and we were too tired to be kept up by the PCH car noise, which quieted by 3am. Not to be confused with the citizenM boutique hotels.
The rooms are very basic, with IKEA furnishings, linens, and decor. It looked like half the wall art and decorations had been removed: bare nails and empty shelves. No drawers or closet, just a wall rack.
Our first room didn't have any bulb in the bedside lamp, and the front desk person sullenly gave us a different room. Looking at the 2nd room, I realized the 1st room's bed was also missing a major piece of its headboard.
The toiletries touted on the website are hand soap you can buy at Whole Foods ("available for purchase at the front desk"? Whyever for?); no lotion; shampoo and conditioner. At least they're bulk instead of single-use plastic, but overall, it just seals the cheap, cut-corners feel of the whole place.
- Alireza (9/5): Superb -
- George (6/5): - It is a motel with hotel prices
- Javier (10/5): - Beautiful scene and the area around looks amazing.
- Ines (10/5): Would come again (: - The room was super spacious, clean and very comfortable. The king size bed was super soft, we had a great time (:
The place is right next to pacific coast highway but it’s not loud when the windows are closed and the balcony is surrounded by plants, so you still feel private.
Thanks also to the receptions for saving us by giving us cutlery for our Uber eats!
- Christina (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect! Sal at the front desk is awesome. He gave me a complimentary upgrade.
- Galvez (10/5): Easy. Safe. Comfortable. Great location. Would stay here again! - Great location, clean, and comfortable bed. Only con is the street traffic when trying to sleep.
- Vasthi (8/5): Very good - A walk away from good food and beach access N/a
- Kai (8/5): Very good - Nice location, clean room. First room smelled of cigarettes, however this was quickly remedied by moving our rooms
- Nob (4/5): Disappointing -
- Tyler (9/5): Great place to stay for a great price-quiet little hidden gem right off pch that i think you'll love - The M Malibu is right off PCH, and i got lucky and got the room facing PCH AND the beach. It was really cool to be able to just look out and see water. Everything i needed was located within 1.5 miles. From gas station, to fine dining. It's actually a really cool little cozy hidden spot to just hang out and you can just cross the street and you're at the water. The staff there is great too, unfortunately i had to cut my trip short by a day, and booking.com doesn't do refunds. So the front desk guy (which i believe is actually the owner) said he would just do some sort of voucher for one free night within the next year. I thought that was really cool being that he didn't have to do that. Seems like they really care about their customers and making sure they want to come back again. Nothing really. Everything was pretty cool. Parking lot was a little tight, but that's only because i have a big diesel truck haha. If you're just in a regular car, you'll be absolutely fine.
- clarepB7920GY (10/5): Happy Malibu stay at The M - I loved The M Malibu. The pool area was lovely. So chilled on a hot September day.
Sal met us there and had upgraded us, which was awesome. We talked about Bora Bora and I enjoyed my chat with him. Room good. Small balcony but had a screen, as did the windows. The bathroom was a good size, plenty of towels. Nice shower. Actually one of the better bathrooms from our trip.
There was a fridge, water and table and chairs. The road was noisy at times, but it is the PCH. There wasnt alot in the walking distance bar or food wise so beware if you want a drink and not drive. It was a Monday so some things were closed. But for the M I really liked it, it had a chilled motel vibe which reminded me of a childhood holiday to California with my parents. Free parking, close to rooms which is great, I would definitely go again. 15 min walk to the Pier and Jack in the box. Great views of the sunset.
- Camilla (10/5): Very pleasant overall! - The room was huge, very clean and comfortable, we’ve been upgraded to a room with a partial view of the ocean and it was amazing.
The staff is extremely nice! If you are a very light sleeper asks for the rooms facing the hills, cause the traffick can be noisy during the night, but the structure provides you with very useful earlplugs (we didn’t use them, cause we’re not light sleepers and the atmosphere is so relaxing that we slept like babies, but very pleased to find them close to the bed in case of need)
- THOMAS (4/5): - The noise level was so bad they provided ear plugs in the room. There is no public beach access. This is not a walking area. The room was clean. Bed only ok.
- Beth (10/5): Wondeful reception from Diamond - M Malibu came to our rescue after the original hotel we had booked with in Malibu turned out to have cancelled our booking and we only found out on arrival that evening. Malibu was the final night on our road trip to the US and so we desperately looked for somewhere else to stay else we were gonna be sleeping in the car. Not only did Malibu M have a room, but Diamond (who checked us in) was amazingly wonderful, empathised totally with our experience and also found us an upgraded room - and all super quick so that we had time to nip to the beach for a quick dip in the water as well.
I cannot thank Diamond enough for her kindness and attention x Nothing - it was excellent
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Vintage vibe motel
- Clare (10/5): Fab at The M. - Good room. Good bathroom. We were upgraded which was lovely. Sal was great.
Pool area lovely. Great place to stay to see Malibu pier. Nothing. Although not alot around to eat as a few things closed but it was a Monday.
- Danielle (7/5): We'll be back :) - I like the pool and location. Diamond was so helpful and awesome! That you have to call a phone # to get your room cleaned
- Piers (8/5): - Modest but simple, classic, comfortable, clean and (relatively affordable) beach and ocean facing motel with plenty of parking which is in scant supply elsewhere on this strip. Malibu Pier, beaches and park within walking distance.
- Bob (10/5): - We stay here 3-4 times a year snd it is always excellent. Most affordable stay in all of Malibu and convenient to everything!!! B Clark
- Monica (1/5): Bad -
- Brian (10/5): - The M is a true beach motel. It is on the inland side of Pacific Coast Hwy - with a number of restaurants within walking distance about a mile each way). The bathroom was clean and the room was comfortable.
- Gerald (6/5): Mediocre - Staff was helpful Outdoor lighting non existent
At night so dark
Tv didn’t work
- Linda (10/5): A calm spot with access to all Malibu's charms. - The hotel was across the road from the pacific coast and jaw dropping beaches, which early in the morning were deserted bar wildlife and surfers. The lack of a safe in the room was disappointing.
- Eros (9/5): Superb -
- Lorenzo (8/5): Very good -
- James (5/5): Passable -
- Christine (10/5): Great location! - Great little hotel for a weekend getaway. Located across the street from the beach. Very close to all the popular dining restaurants. As warned it is on PCH so you will hear the cars driving by. But that goes for any hotel on PCH. Would recommend for a little getaway.
- Christine (10/5): Great location! - Great hotel for a weekend getaway. Located right across the street from the beach. Very close to all the popular dining restaurants. As warned it is on PCH so you will hear the cars driving by. But that goes for any hotel on PCH. Would recommend for a little getaway.
- Michael (10/5): Short Walk from Surfrider Beach - Stayed here for my surfing trip to Surfrider Beach, about a 20 minute walk but much more affordable than the closer options. A comfortable place to stay with helpful staff. Would stay here again and recommend.
- Barbara (8/5): - Easy walk to Dreamland — a must visit — the beach and Malibu Pier. Great restaurant options. Sorta hidden, rustic upper patio great for viewing the ocean early morning wildlife and the sunset. Porpoise pods and diving pelicans!
- Lisa-Maree (10/5): - Sal was great very professional and kind. We enjoyed our stay.
- Virginia (8/5): Very good - Great location to enjoy Malibu landscapes!
the beach and the Malibu Pier are reachable by walk. The outdoor swimming pool makes the location super cool!
I really appreciated Diamond from the stuff, so welcoming and helpful! I will definitely choose the M Malibu for my next trip to LA
- Doris (9/5): Superb -
- Lindsey (10/5): Great stay for one night in Malibu. It’s in a good location and there is an amazing pizza shop next to it!! - Great location
- Alex (7/5): Good -
- Alisha (1/5): Don't stay here. - there were cockroaches in my room, me and my guest left almost immediately after seeing them (we were there for 20 minutes maybe??) and they have refused to give me a refund so far
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (2/5): We left - The air conditioner was not working. We left because it didn't work and the manager could not fix it.
- Bob (10/5): - This is a tremendous place to stsy and most affordable in Malibu!!
- samantharutgers (6/5): Clean and comfortable, expensive for what it provides but a good location. Ok for a overnight stay. No restaurant. - Small double bed. Clean but not costly rooms. Very good location . No hotel lobby just a room and opened certain times. Great location with a slight sea view from some balconys at extra cost. No restaurant or bar, but as a small pool at the back .
- Dan (5/5): Passable - Location was good. Check in took far too long. I could not figure out why it was taking forever and no explanation was given.
Also the TV did not work. We could not get it to go to any apps or to the channels.
Lastly the coffee maker would not work until I moved the plug to another outlet. WOW!!!
- Charles E. (8/5): - PCH noise.
- Veronica (10/5): - Very peaceful!!!
- Travel4doc (10/5): A Dream Getaway! - There is no bad here, the place is divine! It is fragrance free, has lovely rooms with windows and balconies for fresh air. Additionally, it has a lovely, albeit somewhat steep, path up to a hillside patio where one can relax and view a horizon of nothing but ocean. It is within walking distance of the Malibu Pier with its lovey restaurants and breathtaking views, the Aviator Nation Dreamland music club and restaurant, and the Carbon Beach Club Restaurant and Bar with its stunning views and fabulous food. On one side of the M Malibu is a delicious Italian pizza place, D'Amores, that imports its flour from Italy, and on the other side Colony House Liquor which is more of a convenience store with snacks, souvenirs, and even beach clothes. The M Malibu was lovely inside and out with smartly designed rooms and beautiful landscaping. I dream of returning.
- Stefano (10/5): Surprising, beautiful, comfortable. - The room is bigger than the average size of comparable hotels and the building is positioned in a way almost every room (with balcony) has a view on the ocean. Very great location and nice vibe. Furniture is modern and with a very original design. Everything was perfect. If I really need to be picky, I've been surprised to have an actual key for the room I had to carry around, risking to lose it during beach activities or other businesses...
- Joshua (10/5): - Great views and very clean room.
- Nick (10/5): - Great place.
- Benjamin (6/5): Mediocre stay - Broken curtain rod
Deadbolt difficulty
Toilet paper in dispenser had been wet and then dried.
A couple was fighting throughout the night.
- Marlene (8/5): - Very cute 'retro' motel that has been updated and is very clean!
- Natalie (6/5): It was fine, and location was good -- but, overall, nothing special. - The hotel is in a convenient location. The staff at the front desk was very nice and accommodating. The place was clean and parking was easy. It had a TV with basic cable and the bed was decently comfortable. It's pretty pricey for what it is (I guess you're paying for location) -- very simple motel that has modest renovations to make it look more up-to-date. It was fine, but pretty basic.
- Constantinidis (7/5): Fair for the price, do not expect massive luxury but a good bed and good shower. Does get a bit noisy though - Close by everything in Malibu On PCH so lots of noise, also very thin walls, so lots of noise from neighbours snoring and talking .
Also fairly cold at night for me.
- Katherine (6/5): Pleasant -
- Robert (6/5): - Not oceanfront. Very busy and noisy road between motel and beach.
- Fernando (10/5): - Excellent
- Bartram (10/5): Had a great stay! - The area was great! near shops and beach.
- richard (10/5): - Great place
- Vanessa (8/5): bien - the view from the balcony the bed was extremely noisy
- Cook (7/5): Good -
- Sheldon (8/5): - I didn’t like the lack of staff and or office hours. The location is very walkable and near some great restaurants.
