Guest Reviews
- Elise (7/5): Charming, spacious and well positioned - The room was lovely. Had a real heritage vibe and courtyard garden was beautiful. Everything worked well. Fresh hot and cold water were provided. Bed was comfy. The location is in Little India, which was great but it was a holiday weekend so there were a lot of celebrations and very noisy until early in the morning. Other nights not too bad but bring ear plugs if you’re sensitive.
- Cheryl (8/5): -
- Lena Rosa (10/5): -
A rafraîchir, lavabo bouché
- Richard (7/5): - Very centrally located, easy to walk to most things in Central Georgetown, and a good price This was our second time staying at the same hotel after a short trip outside of Georgetown then back to it... The second room wasn't quite as good as the first time round, there were some minor plumbing issues in the bathroom i.e some of it was broken but still functioned
- Richard (8/5): - A clean characterful room very centrally located and easily walkable to nearly everything you want to do in Central Georgetown The mattress was quite hard and it was disappointing that the TV was not more modern (ie a Smart TV)
Not the fault of the hotel per se but the booking.com app showed a checkout time across a time period whereas the hotel called us because we had not checked out already by the start of the time range.
- Rebecca (10/5): Loved our stay, comfortable, good value for money, great location and staff. - We really enjoyed our stay here, the room was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom had a good shower with hot water and decent pressure and toiletries. There was tea and coffee and free hot and cold water available downstairs. We were able to check in early and then, on departure, leave our bags safely downstairs which was very much appreciated. The location meant everything was walkable with good food places nearby. Special thanks to Alamin who was helpful and friendly and really made our stay special. Thank you for looking after us Alamin! A small thing was the key card to get back into the building taking a bit of time to work, but this is a tiny issue.
- daniela (8/5): Lovely apartment full of character and charme - The location was great . Great value for money .
Wifi connection was excellent It would have been good to have a kettle and a small fridge in the room.
- Nancy (7/5): - Great location and spacious room. Staff was very helpful too! We stayed here during hari raya weekend, so we did notice that the sound proofing was not the best and we could hear the celebrations on the street. I don’t envision this to be an issue in a normal week though!
- Gemma (7/5): Nice location - Location is really good, walking distance to everything. The decor and style of the room is really unique and nice. It is cool being able to stay in an old mansion in Georgetown. Overall it is worth it for the price. The noise from the street is very loud due to poor insulation. The room wasn't cleaned during our 4 night stay, not even fresh towels given. The towels we were given at the start had stains on them and the sheets for the bed didn't smell freshly cleaned (although they looked clean). The door to the reception is difficult to close and I saw other guests leaving it open which poses a security risk at night.
- Alexandre (7/5): -
- Carina (8/5): - Super cute place. Good location. Water refill station at reception. No fridge in the room.
- Eghtebas (8/5): Charming and comfortable stay - Very charming heritage house that was comfortable for our party of 3 to stay in. Location is quite central. Parking is hard to find, and if found, hard to pay for. If it is noises outside, it will be noises inside, there are small gaps in the floor where you can see light coming in from down stairs.
- Shuko (7/5): -
- Qian (9/5): -
- kim kwong (9/5): Nice stay with heritage feel - Cosy n heritage feel In booking check out is 12-1 pm but hotel insist checkout by 1pm .
- NAGORE (9/5): -
- ANG (10/5): -
- tat man (9/5): - If hotel can offer a watercooker than is perfect
- Bening (8/5): - The location is perfect. It's in the midlle of George Town tourist area, walking distance to many iconic places and food. The room is spacious and clean. I really love their design that still keeping the heritage element None
- Robin (8/5): - Sehr gute Lage, Wasserspender, Checkin kompliziert, Matratze nicht von guter Qualität, kein Kühlschrank
- Carlota (10/5): -
- Amy (9/5): - Great location. Very central to Little India and Armenia st. Easy to walk everywhere. Comfortable room too. ☺️
I had our car and was unsure how to pay for parking. The owner quickly helped me sort that and kindly paid for my parking for the duration of our stay.
- Rhodes (8/5): -
- Anne (9/5): Relaxed and clean place - This place is in the middle of little India, so you are in walking distance of at a lot of places you want to see. Heaps of restaurants and shops.
Palm Mansion looks smaller than it is and is super clean and has comfy beds. It fits very well in the vibe of the city unlike big hotels. I recommend it! It can be a bit loud when there are festivals going on - but that's why travelers are coming, don't they?
- Marian (8/5): -
- HARYANI (10/5): -
- Eshwar (8/5): It’s a good place to stay if you’re planning on exploring penang for your whole trip. - I liked the unique theme of the hotel, it certainly stands out from other places. It has a very warm and cosy feeling to it. Coming back to the room every night felt good. The only thing i didn’t like is the lack of a living space in the room itself, and the staff wasn’t present as much.
- Lance (6/5): Dark, rustic, but comfortable. Good for one or two nights. - For one night this was ok. The room is large and comfortable with high ceilings. The bathroom is ok. The bed was comfortable. It is in a great, little India, location.
We booked it as our arrival night and left asap to find our long term accommodation. It was dark. The lightning is poor. The windows were shutters, if you wanted light and opened them your inviting: insects, humidity, heat, the neighbours across the street, the local temple, petrol fumes and everything else into the room. There was no kettle, a water heater down stairs was available. It was a bit rustic. A giant padlock to lock the front door was a bit odd.
- Nurul Shuhadah (10/5): Pleasant - The location No plates, cuttleries to borrow
- Enrico (9/5): -
- Sindy (8/5): Everything is good, value to stay - Is an old school Malaysia loft style, quite nice, and space is big. Queen size bed at second floor, I need to use stair go the bathroom
- Harshad (8/5): -
- Anni (8/5): -
- Leong (7/5): Charming stay in a convenient location - Charming vibe and surroundings Hot water flask smells musty and not usable. Replacement flask has same musty smell. No bedside lamps. Lamp in the loft is broken and unusable. Wall fan only swings when the trigger is held down.
Can be noisy at night with commotions and maintenance work along the streets.
- Nima (9/5): Superb - Great location, very comfortable, and has everything you need. Beautiful apartment. The deposit was a bit big for just returning the keys
- Qu (9/5): Superb - The vibe of the hotel and near distance to all tourist places The shower head is spoiled, should change a new one
- Maysfire (7/5): Good -
- Nobuya (8/5): Secret room in Georgetown - Clean and large room. One queen bed and one single at loft space. It was interesting in the renovation of the antique house. Lightning is too small to read books. Less sound proof on the window. The noise of the outside could reach the inside room.
- Adamaia (10/5): Exceptional - everything except the shower water pressure a bit slow and I wish there is iron provided there... almost perfect
- Cynthia (5/5): Very basic facility but good location - The interior and setting. The AC was not very effective and we had to go to the ground floor to fetch drinking water and hot water to make coffee.
- Wannasoot (7/5): Worth your money and perfect area to stay. - Really nice and cozy rooms. But no fridge in the room. Located in a very convenient area where you can walk to touristy spots.
- Shadman (7/5): Good -
- Christene (5/5): Passable -
- Kamalakanthi (10/5): Exceptional - It’s was truly amazing Na
- Junaid (8/5): Very good -
- Md (10/5): Exceptional - Location & Facilities was exilent. Staff was exilent. Hotel internal interior was very lookrative.
- Kristin (9/5): Superb - Liked the traditional look of the place and the rooms!
- Su (7/5): Good -
- Xu (8/5): Awesome 3-night stay near the city Center of George Town - Superb location in George Town. Near to everywhere. Close to multiple temples, smell of burning incense is common. Sound isolation of the room could be improved as often hear cars and trucks driving by
- Leslee (10/5): Little gem - The location at Little India was perfect for incredible food, museums w history, spas and nightlife if you want.
Super clean and safe. Convenience markets near and filtered water at the front desk making it easy to stay for long or short term.
- Archie (8/5): Very good - Location was excellent and great value for money. It was quite noisy during the nights.
- Skilly (9/5): Not perfect, but excudes charm and highly recommendable - Really nice, spacious older building, most central location very near many cafes and restaurants. The loft setup is great for having some extra space. The common areas are well designed and useful. There are swing chairs. Hot and cold drinking water is available. Big rooms, comfortable beds, hot water on demand. Colonial decor and older high quality furniture. Overall highly recommend and would easily stay again. Wi-fi not great in some rooms, lighting is a bit dark, you can't really open the windows as they have no screens and you get insects, and some of the air conditioners blow musty air.
- Ondřej (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing accommodation in the heart of George Town. Beautiful, stylish room. Everything you need within reach.
- Gh (7/5): Good - Location was nice. However the room facilities should be newer Room facilities should be newer
- Gilles (7/5): Great location but... - Good location near areas of interest and a variety of restaurants, comfortable bed in the loft, good air conditioning and fans. Very clean. Lighting on the main floor is dim, and the shutters are fixed to the windows so the only way to get daylight is to open the windows, letting in the heat and any insects that are around. The stairs to the loft (main bed) are unusually steep. There is generally no one at the front desk, so initial access can be tricky.
- Tan (8/5): Nice cozy space with greens, value for money - Clean hotel , good location, quiet but very convenient to look for food and grocery Nothing
- Steven (9/5): Superb -
- Anandh (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dean (10/5): Very nice place in the center of Gorge Town - Everything, from the location, to the rooms, the cleanliness, the overall appearance. It was such a pleasure to spend couple days here.
They renovated this old house with style and it’s just so relaxing to be here. They even have swing chairs and hammocks in front of the rooms and so many flowers. The only negative thing is that the same owner owns 4 properties, so even if the reception says it’s open from 11am until 7pm, there was nobody when we arrived at 2pm. So we had to call the number on the door and wait half an hour for someone to come.
It seems like one person is managing the reception and cleaning at multiple properties.
But even with this, our stay was wonderful
- Yuen (9/5): Clean , big and very nice place to stay in penang - The location is very convenient, can go most of the places by walking. The room is big & clean, the beds are really comfortable . The air con & fan is good , they make a very good ventilation in the room. We like the clothes hanger in the room . It’s very nice .
The decoration of the room and the common area outside the room in the hotel is beautiful and very good for photo.
I like the drinking machine provide cold water and the fridge downstair , it’s very good to have some cold drink an after a long hot day outside .
Even there is no 24 hr reception staff on site but once we have any questions or need help and talk to hotel via booking.com, we got the reply quickly. The staff on site is very friendly and helpful. Everything it’s good .
- Michael (7/5): Good - Nice room and clean hotel
- Suk (7/5): Good -
- Johanna (8/5): Very good - Very nice decor, good customer service, easy to book. The location is also very convenient. Could be cleaner. Certain things like wall paint and light fixtures can be better maintained.
- Azi (10/5): Best - Best & good Nothing
- Grant (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (8/5): Value for money. Good location. Friendly proprietor who was going through lengths to guide me into the property - Spacious and quiet No safe box and iron was available
- Kwan (8/5): Nice stay - The location The room is a bit dark
- Stefaan (9/5): Superb - New old style
- Pichet (7/5): Good -
- Sarah (8/5): Very good - Great location and pleasant surroundings
- Martin (7/5): Good -
- Noel (8/5): Big room with a comfortable bed - Great location, close to good restaurants and in the heart of old town/ little India. The room was large with a comfortable bed, the hotel had lots of character Internet was very poor , the shower had very little pressure.
- Tan (9/5): Superb -
- Christian (8/5): Fantastic, anytime again. - The owner/manager was very helpful and arranged an appointment with an equally helpful and competent doctor (Doctor Oun, Klinik Huang). The room is dark unless you open the windows.
- DiarmuidC (10/5): - Whats not to like. Its a delightful and charming gem of a place. The virtues of the 9th century vintage shophouse design are exploited to the full, in conjunction with al modern amenities. JL is a genial and affable host. I do expect to return and do not hesitate to recommend this venue to customers in the future.
- Joo Ling (10/5): Fantastic service - Fantastic service by the hotel manager. Initially we though he was the owner as he was so friendly and proud of the hotel. He seemed to be there all the time, always greeting the guests warmly, helpful in giving advice of the local areas and helping to book restaurants and taxis. Even personally escorted us to the local eating places nearby. Great authentic cultural experience staying in a newly refurbished old shop houses. Great location. The rooms were furnished with furniture from the older Malaysian times.
- K (10/5): A very warm and special kind of hotel experience - This is a very special accommodation experienc for me.
The hotel is small of seven room only. The owner and the staffs had a heart on it and I could feel their services are very unique and excellent.
When I arrived, instead of check-in, the manager Mr. CHANG hosted me with and drinks and cakes while gave a brief on the major tourist locations and recommended restaurants of Penang when learning we were the first time visitors to the city. After it, we were admitted to our room without check-in.
The room is spacious and clean. On the third day, we found sets of quilts and pillows of different patterns are placed. It impressed me as I guess other hotel will not change of the look of the quilts no matter how long a guest will stay.
Restaurant for breakfast is arranged at the nearby Cafe of Little Angel. The food is good. More than that, its boss/cook would warmly recommended different food choices so our breakfasts need not to be repeated during our stay and we could also tasted more local delicious foods.
The hotel is at the heart of George Town, so it is very close and only walks away from the locations of visitor interest nearby.
The room is spacious and clean. It has two beds, and one of the bed is upstairs. It is the main reason I chose it.
The owner likes green plants, and full of lovely pot plants in the corridors outside the guest rooms.
It is a very wonderful experiences of my stay.
