- Rebecca (10/5): - Everything! If in the area again, this is our place i
- Michael (10/5): Wonderful! - The location was wonderful. It was close to everything we wanted to see. The staff was very informative and accommodating. The Lodge was very clean. Nothing
- Steve (10/5): So glad we found this hidden gem while searching for hotels in the area! - The location and al the amenities on the site.
- Marty (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (9/5): -
- Evelyn (10/5): -
- Rachael (5/5): - Location Nothing was open! Breakfast was terrible!!
- Laura (8/5): -
- Cheryl (10/5): - Nice location
- L (10/5): - Great place to stay on vacation. It was easy to get to and easy late check in. Very friendly staff & clean.
- Holly (6/5): - I stayed at the Lodge and my room was on the main floor, just two doors away from the Lobby. I could hear the people talking in the Lobby and also the people above me. Next time, I am going to stay on the top floor. Everything else was good and the staff was friendly.
- Mark (8/5): - The room was large and very nice. The location was close to everything and since we were off season, there was no issues with traffic or crowds. There was only one night stand in our room. I have a CPAP and we have glasses and phones, so it it a pain to have to put all of that on the floor. The hot tub could have maybe stayed open since it was the perfect fall weather to use it, even though it is outside. The breakfast was ok.
- Myrtle (10/5): Enjoyable - Very clean. Coffee 24-7 nice continental breakfast. Didn’t have to find somewhere for breakfast each day. No complaints
- Barbara (10/5): We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful location! - Excellent location in the Black Hills! Beautiful property with many amenities.
- Carol (8/5): -
- Phillip (8/5): - Did not have any kids or pets. Staff was great. Limited Continental Breakfast, muffins, bagels, cereal, coffee/juice, yogurt, great coffee, some fruit
- Chris (10/5): - Great staff. Thank you!
- Heidi (8/5): - clean, nice room in a pretty, quiet setting. Laundry machines were a long walk from the lodge and several driers were not working, so it took a long time to get our clothes done.
- Levi (10/5): - Great accomodations & wondeful helpful staff!
- Daniel (8/5): - Nice
- Greg (10/5): - Enjoyed our time there. Close to trails and wildlife.
- Kevin H (8/5): - Stayed three nights, the location was convenient to Mt Rushmore and Custer State Park areas. The only complaint was the remote cabins were difficult to find in the dark. One more sign at the last fork in the road would be an asset.
- Ronald (10/5): - Breakfast was just cereal, granola bars and muffins.
We were not informed until we arrived the bar and restaurant's were closed for the season.
- Steve (10/5): - !0 minutes from Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Mountain. Excellent
- Liza Marie (8/5): - some services like the outdoor pool, shops and activities outside is close coming the winter season
- Gary (10/5): - Clean, quiet, comfy. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was great every morning that we stayed. We definitely will stay here again!
- Linda (10/5): - Overall the room was clean, however there was hair on the toilet and also a gob of it on the floor. I still would rate it as excellent because of the cleanliness of the rest of the room. I would definitley stay here again.
- Rand (6/5): - They don’t make up the rooms
- Cindy (10/5): Very nice! - Nicest KOA ever. We stayed in the lodge to take a break from camping. It was a very good experience The restaurant was closed for the season so we went into Hill city and had a very nice meal
- Denise (6/5): - We could not get wifi at all. The guest site would not work. The tv would not work. It would let you watch about 5 minutes then give you three dots and you would have to wait and then you missed part of the show. It improved the last day. Drive way retained rain water for 3 days making it difficult to park. Wished we had known everything was closed down the second week in September. Cabin rooms were never cleaned and when i called you were supposed to put trash out after 9am. Our excursions were earlier.Wanted a receipt they said they would email and i never got it. Loved the peace and quiet. Nothing was a huge deal just wish we had known up front.
- Randall (10/5): - layed back in the hill quiet and clean
- Pamela (10/5): It was simply beautiful and relaxing and everyone very nice. - It was a beautiful. Nothing
- Alice (10/5): - Such a relaxing stay!! Close to everything! Hated to leave
- Allen (8/5): - Location
- Joan (10/5): - It was a beautiful place and the location was great. We enjoyed our stay very much and would highly recommend to others.
- Marie (10/5): - Perfect place for a much-needed night away from home. It was peacefully quiet at our cabin, our kids loved the pool and mini golf, and the parents enjoyed a little downtime.
- David (9/5): -
- Barbara (9/5): -
- Ron (10/5): - Beautiful
- Karen (10/5): - Amazing property. Loved it.
- Laszlo (8/5): - It was very close to Mount Rushmore. It was clean and cozy. The breakfast was very limited on available choices.
- Tera (10/5): - Great place!
- Darnell (8/5): - A lot to do good location Beds hard like a rock
- Steve (6/5): - The staff was very friendly and the room was clean, but had brown water come out of the shower.
- Autumn (10/5): - Great amenities for kids and family.
- Michelle (8/5): - I was under the impression that I was booking a room in the lodge. Actually it was a separate multi-cabin. (One long cabin with 4 separate rooms) We were quite a ways from the pools and were no longer part of the free breakfast. Overall, the room/cabin was good, just not what I was expecting.
- Dart (9/5): -
- Pam (10/5): I had high expectations an this exceeded them - Location was easy to access and BEAUTIFUL
Facility was exceptionally well kept
Staff was obnoxiously friendly and helpful
Restaurant and ice cream parlor were clean and food was tasty and not overly expensive Bed mattress was not comfortable to me, but was fine for hubby and daughter
Iron content in water was “interesting”
- Cynthia (9/5): - Terrible breakfast at the lodge, thank goodness for the breakfast area with the campers
- Doris (9/5): Great place for families. - Room was nice, beds were comfortable. WIFI was spotty but most of the time worked (even if a little slow). The water was brown looking. I used bottled water but still had to take a shower in the "brown water".
- Christine (10/5): August at Palmer Gulch - Check-in could have been smoother but overall the stay was great. There is so much to do at this campground that there is really no need to leave. It is kept very clean and other campers were very respectful overall. We will be back!
- Ray (3/5): Thanks - Room was very clean No breakfast and rusty water
- Carol (10/5): - Nice place. It’s got something for everyone. Only suggestion I would make is for better options for breakfast. Only had the bare minimum.. no hot options
- Robert (10/5): - Tap water was brown. Other than that we enjoyed it!
- Michele (10/5): - Bed and pillows very comfortable
- Sandi (10/5): Exceptional - We love the central location.
- William (7/5): It was good. I would stay again. - I would prefer an earlier breakfast time. Maybe 6:00. I’d rather be traveling or exploring before 8:00. Breakfast coming out at 7:30 was a bit chaotic. The nice ladies were trying to get it out and people were grabbing items as they were placed and got in The staff’s way. Rude on the guests part. Hit buffet.
- Marla (8/5): When check-in is at 3 pm and check-out is at 11am it doesn’t give much time to use the facilities - There are a wide variety of things to do. The cost.
- Kristen (8/5): - Went on a cross country road trip and stayed in many hotels. This one had amazing things for our kids to do, but the hotel is lacking in a few areas. We were originally put into a cabin that looked like it was falling apart and stank horribly, bath tub had holes all over the bottom, window screen was broken, it was just gross. We got moved to the hotel and that was much nicer. The amenities were great! Kids fell in love with the play areas, pool, etc. Lots to do! Breakfast is average continental. All in all it was a good trip
- Jennifer (10/5): - Perfect for traveling with kids!
- Billi (10/5): - I loved this place. The area is pretty and the kids could have been entertained for days without leaving. I would love to go back. We ended up being in the very far corner so bikes would have been handy. I didn’t look into renting anything there, this was a short stay for us. Next time.
- Patricia (10/5): - Great for kids
- Louise (10/5): - Staff was very helpful and pleasant. The room was nice sized even with rollaway cot.
Lots of activities for kids, teens, adults, and groups to enjoy with daily activity sheet available to help plan the stay.
Camped here in one of the little cabins 30+ years ago and had so much fun with my kids. This year in Lodge with grandchild was even better.
- Christina (10/5): - Great location and has everything you need to keep the family fed and busy.
- Barbara (8/5): - Lovely location. Staff were wonderful, excellent customer service! Lodge is older but clean.
- Waylon (10/5): - Great staff and kids activates
- Joey (10/5): Nice and relaxing. People staying there and working there are very friendly. - It’s a really nice place you can just relax if you want, or there are things you can do, like pickle ball, basketball, a nice pool. Rent a bike, or APV. Trail rides. The lighting in the rooms is terrible, we both like to read and the lamps in the rooms don’t put out adequate lighting to read. We went out on the balcony to read during the day.
- Candace (4/5): - What I didn’t like about the property is our hot tub did not work the first night and that’s why I got a cabin with the hot tub so we can sit in it for the full two nights. I rented it and they didn’t refund anything second thing that I didn’t like is you can’t even Get in 10 minutes early. You have to be right on the dot with these people.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Great place to vacation
- Shonna (10/5): Perfect family spot for Mt. Rushmore visit! - The rooms in the lodge are really nice! Was expecting something more worn/rustic and was pleasantly surprised. Continental breakfast was really pared down... we chose to pay for the pancake breakfast in the tent. Pool near the lodge and hot tub are heated, great on cold nights. Only a 10 minute drive to the Mount Rushmore entrance and Keystone came in handy b/c the weather wasn't great during our stay and we had to stop multiple times at Mount Rushmore before the fog/mist cleared.
- Shonna (10/5): Great for family visit to Mt. Rushmore! - Stay in the Executive Lodge was nice. We had 5 people and needed 3 bedrooms. There aren't many options like this in the Keystone area... most accommodations suiting that many have a pull-out couch for 2 people. Executive lodges are nice and warm/heated. Living area is roomy with a dining table, fireplace, and sitting area. Master bedroom is nice & big. Other 2 bedrooms are smaller. Worked great for us BUT, for the price, I might have opted to stay another night in the Lodge which, also had really nice rooms.
- Angela (9/5): Superb -
- Marcia (10/5): - This property was very nice and inviting. Staff was excellent and made great dinner spot in Hill City. Enjoyed the quiet cabin and fireplace. Recommend highly
- Sherriel (10/5): Excellent - Usual continual No snow
- Sheri (10/5): - Beautiful property, friendly staff, very clean
- Joselin (10/5): Exceptional - The sauna and view!
- Dustin (10/5): - Everything was absolutely great, i didnt realize the resort was seasonal so that was a lil bit of a bummer but will absolutely go back.
- H (8/5): - We stay right after the primary season closes. It is very quiet and pleasant. But even in the Executive Cabins, some items work fine, and others do not. For example, the gas fireplace did not work properly. I asked maintenance to check on it and they did so promptly. But the next day it failed to light again. I said the heck with it. There is not much hot water for showers or baths. The water heater could not accommodate more than two short showers. You needed to wait another 30 minutes for the water to heat up. Every TV remote had "worn-out" batteries. I bought replacement batteries. The TV's have two remote controls but our grandkids weren't there to show us how to operate the darn TVs. That was our problem.
Nevertheless, we continue to return each after September. We enjoy the surroundings and the quiet.
Finally, I believe that the off season should have a lower price point. The cost is high. Given the number of VRBOs in the area, we may consider one of those next year. Or maybe not.
- Merle (10/5): - Great place will come here again and recommend it to all others that are going to the area.
- Melissa (8/5): A great place for families and centrally located to all of Western South Dakota. - It is an adorable property. I just wish we had gotten there before the end of the season, to experience everything. I’d 100% stay here again.
- Melissa (8/5): Very good - Nice room. Very clean. Decent continental breakfast. Would have been nice to know that the lodge was gearing up to close within the week. No access to pool or hot tub as they had already been drained. Cute little shops on site were already closed for the season. Would have stayed in town if had known there was no where to eat at property. The bathroom fan and light were operated with the same switch. The fan was VERY loud.
- Sanders (10/5): It was perfection for our stay in South Dakota - It was a beautiful lodge. The location was perfect. Would love to come back and stay again. Nothing
- Robert (6/5): - The place is decent, but they did not make it obvious that all the amenities are seasonal. Definitely not worth the price in the off season, its a mediocre hotel that is miles to the nearest anything. I would have thought at least the bar/restaurant would be open but no.
- Cindy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marcia (10/5): - The setting was beautiful. It 7was lovely having a deck to sit on to enjoy the view
- Wayne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shnurman (5/5): Could’ve been amazing but it was just alright. I’d try a different lodge next time. - The view was awesome. Didn’t have working tv in either room, didn’t have blankets on the bed, broken sink, things need to be updated. 15 yrs ago that place was amazing. Today not so much.
- Lisa (6/5): Could have been better - Stayed for three nights and no one ever came to restock or clean our room. Breakfast that was included was really only bagels and cereal and very limited for someone with food allergies or diet limitations. I expected more for the price as it was expensive to stay at the lodge.
- Diane (8/5): Amazing vacation at an amazing resort! - The location was amazing!!! Having a restaurant, stores and bar on site was simply the best! Only thing that could change is the hot tub situation. The hot tub was always filled with small children using it as a pool. I can understand kids wanting to be in it but parents should be required to be in there with their children. At one point there were 26 kids in it causing my husband and I to have to leave.
- James (7/5): Good -
- Tonya (9/5): Superb - Very nice property. Staff is great, hotel is very clean Hotel hard to get to inside park, and not enough parking for all hotel guests.
- Pureza (10/5): - Great place for vacation
- JENNIFER B. (8/5): - I loved the location of the Palmer Gulch Lodge. Closed to all the sights we came to see. Beautiful location and the property offered everything we needed - plus! Outdoor pool, pickleball court, dining, specialty stores- ice cream, pizza, fudge, wine/ coffee shop and a singer in the evenings. Plus horseback riding and lessons for the kids. We brought our 14 year old grand nephew and he had so much fun.
The staff at the from desk was extremely helpful in reference to what up see and do. Thank you!
Plus there was a free continental breakfast every morning.
The property is pet friendly and did not charge extra for a pet. We had our cat with us and the staff was very nice to greet her.
The lodge is showing its age in reference to our room. The room temperature was difficult to control and the heating /air unit was very loud. The bathroom light was connected to a very loud fan- not a separate switch so it woke everyone up if you need to use the bathroom - or makes it difficult to hear the TV if someone is in the bathroom. The sink is outside of the bathroom - so not privacy getting ready in the morning or night. The shower head was a misty spray and went everywhere and the bathroom sink was clogged. The rooms are old as well as the linens , blankets and bedspreads. The mattresses were okay but the pillows were very lumpy.
Would I stay again? Yes- because of the location, staff, and amenities. We used the pool everyday and if was well kept and there were plenty of chairs.
- Sandra (10/5): - The food was limited and restaurant on property wasn’t the best . The ice cream shop was good
- Tara (6/5): - The beds and the pillows were hard as rocks. The best bed we had in the room was our cot.
Our toilet ran and barely flushed.
Not worth the price of the rooms here
- Christine (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay. Enjoyed the patio in the evenings and the wooded quiet location. Great location to use as a base to visit all nearby parks and monuments. Lodge is away from campground and very quiet. Excellent pool. Staff was friendly and helpful with information
- jake (10/5): - This was an amazing stay! Would highly recommend and plan on going again
- Linda (10/5): - So much to do to keep kids busy. Rodeo was fun. Only 1 bad experience. Pancake breakfast for $ 3.50 ( don't waste your money) pancakes are terrible.
