The initial welcome—and the thoughtful welcome goodies were fantastic and set the tone for our stay. While the rooms show a bit of wear, they are perfectly adequate and come equipped with all the necessary fixtures.

- jnails1 (8/5): Every time we stay here, we have a good experience! - We stayed 2 nights in one of their 2BR/1BA suites located across from the pool & all rooms have been updated, so don't let the "time capsule" look of this little 1960's motel fool you! For the first time in I can't remember how many years, I was finally able to relax. It's a short drive up to Cade's Cove where we picnicked & spent some time exploring in between the rain storms (saw a momma bear with 2 itty bitty cubs). Their rates are good (repeat customers get a price break), the rooms were clean, the bed was super comfortable, so we both slept good & we enjoyed the covered patio area near our room for lounging during a rainstorm (I fell asleep sitting up!), plus we ate a picnic dinner one night there, too. Upon arrival, guests are given a little brown paper bag with a variety of snacks in it as a "thank you for your business", which I absolutely love that personal touch & we enjoyed all of them. The pool was clean & not too cold, but one of the best things about this little family owned motel is that it has 2 fire pits on 2 different decks (1 at each motel building) for guests to enjoy. We bought some wood, wine & a fire starter log down at the IGA, then relaxed both nights by the campfire looking up at the stars in the sky. We've been before where other guests visit with each other around the fire pit & that's been fun, too, but this time we had it all to ourselves. There is some deferred maintenance on the outside, but nothing drastic that would be a deal breaker (gutters have weeds growing out of them, soffits in the back outside the windows have some rot, grass needed mowing, etc). We heard the owner is going thru dialysis, so that's understandably first & foremost on his mind. We wish him all the best & hope everything will be ok in the future because we love his little motel!

- BikerAnnieF (10/5): Perfect motel in Townsend - Amazing motel in Townsend. The place has the feel of an old school motel, but modern amenities and feel. The rooms are huge with hard floors and clean, nice linens. Lots of great touches like real glasses and mugs for coffee. Nice rocking chairs on porch. Gift bag with great snacks upon check-in. My husband and I do a 2-week motorcycle trip each year, and this is exactly the type of gem we hope to find.

- Climber53258885878 (2/5): Absolutely the worst hotel in Townsend - Worst hotel in Townsend. No hot water. Knew about it all day and didn’t start working on it until that night. Lady at the desk is a nut job. Called to say they could move me for a night and then move back the next day. Then hung up on me when I asked why would I move for 1 night and move back? Went to the office to speak with the owner and the nut job threw me out. Rude staff, old hotel, crappy customer service. Save yourself a headache and stay away.

- Lynn (4/5): - The room air conditioner was noisy, leaked water all night long and never made it down to 69 degrees. Morning staff was indifferent about it and our experience saying they’d fix it. Bedding was not very nice, room needed a deep cleaning- especially bathroom. Close to park entrance, there are other motels that are probably equivalent that are closer. Be aware that one person’s 5 star is another’s 2-3.

- JDB6045 (10/5): Definitely a Quiet Getaway! - My wife and I stayed at the Inn on our way home to Alabama from West Virginia. I looked up places to stay in Townsend, thru Trip Advisor, and saw that this motel was rated well. I looked online for pricing and then called the Motel to see what rooms and rates were available. We received a better rate from the gentleman we talked to than what we found online, and booked immediately. This was our first stay here, and we'll be back! Rooms were clean, and the small goodie bag received when we arrived, was a nice touch! The young lady we saw when we checked in was very nice and gave us an excellent recommendation for supper! (Trailhead Steak & Trout, btw, AND the restaurant had several gluten-free options!)). This motel is an older, but very nicely refurbished, motel, where you can park right at your room's door! Furnishings were very nice and not your typical motel furniture! Our A/C was a 'split-unit' in the back wall, above the sink/fridge/bathroom area and worked well. The bed was very comfortable, maybe a pillowtop mattress or Tempupedic-type mattress. Although we did not use them, there was a 3-5 ft deep pool, a fire pit area, and an 'ark' playground gym set for the kiddos.

- Jennifer (10/5): - The people who worked on the office were very nice and always helpful. The rooms were very clean. Its the perfect area and location. Easy access to Cades Cove, Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge.
- Verified traveler (10/5): We enjoy staying here when we visit the smoky mts! - This was our second time staying in this motel and we plan to stay again next year! Really nice place to stay in townsend. Owners are very nice, the rooms are big, clean and comfortable. The view is nice, we love the rocking chairs outside of the rooms. We enjoy the large outdoor pool and the patio area with bags where our family can hang out when we have some downtime. It is simple to get in and out of the room as we can park right in front of our room door. The gift bags are so nice! They really make us feel welcome. We also enjoy staying in townsend because it truly is the quiet side of the smoky mountains. However, it is not too far from gatlinburg, if you did want to visit the busy side. Townsend isn't too far from cades cove, the sinks, laurel falls etc. Lots to do and see nearby. This year we decided to try the river rats tubing adventure. This is located in townsend and was a lot of fun. We went with the relaxed outpost with less rapids.

- James (10/5): Nice cabin stay. - The cabin was very nice. It had a queen bed and a futon sofa bed. The futon was thick and very comfortable. The cabin was perfect for 4 people.
- Tammie (10/5): Would stay here again - Check in was super smooth with no issues and added goodie bag! Room was mostly clean aside from some dust bunnies here and there on a hardwood floor. Beds and furniture were clean. Updated and cold A/C was much appreciated. Location to Tail of the Dragon, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg was perfect. Property was well maintained. Neighbors were very friendly. Area was quiet. My only gripe would be swapping out the futon for an actual couch - it was pretty uncomfortable to sit on.
- Alisa (10/5): - We had a great stay. The room was clean and comfortable. The pool was nice, very clean, towels were provided, had umbrellas for shade and a picnic area. Staff were super friendly and helpful. My husband forgot his toothbrush and they provided one even though the office was closed. He also left his IPods and they mailed them to us! I would recommend this property if you are visiting Townsend. Very convenient to Cades Cove
- Linda (10/5): Quick trip - The room was perfect for our needs, small but nice additional seating. Clean, quaint, right off the main road. No need for all wheel drive or long jaunt into the mountains. Everything was conveniently located.
- Steve7P (10/5): Perfect base for Cades Cove and Smokies - Motel-type inn with parking directly in front of room. Separate bedrooms for queen beds; very quiet and spacious. Bathroom has plenty of counter space but sink is one of the "decorator specials" that is mounted on top of the counter and is small and difficult to use. The shower worked well. There was one towel bar in the bathroom but the wooden bar showed some mildew. Although the room could have been a tiny bit cleaner, we thought it was an excellent value for the place and time. For bicyclists, the location is perfect with miles of paved bike paths through town. We will definitely stay here again for our next visit to this part of the Smokies, especially Cades Cove.

The furniture made the room feel like home, instead of all hoytie toytie like the bigger hotels. The young lady that checked us in was very professional and friendly. Rates were reasonable. I would highly recommend this motel and will stay there again should we visit TN in the future.

- mgT1916KM (10/5): Cute cottage and can hear the river at night - Great deal on a cottage with kitchen!! Cheaper than just a room would be in pigeon forge or gburg. Townsend really is the quiet side of the smokies. You won’t be stuck in traffic, low crowds, or tourist traps. It’s just a cute quiet town with unproblematic folk enjoying the nature. The hospitality is off the charts because the businesses honestly want you to come back, you aren’t just one of a million tourists. Close to good restaurants, winery, and only a few miles from the national park. Also nearby the gorgeous but underrated foothills parkway. We Had our own space and own area to cook. We did a hike before most breakfast restaurants were open and came back after they were closed. Cute property and went above and beyond to accommodate! We had our own outdoor space complete with grill and picnic table I need to check out. PS leave your window open because you can hear the mountain rain and little river from the TGI.

- William (10/5): - This is a motel like we stayed in during the 1950's and 1960's. It has been maintained and updated. Super clean, comfortable beds, easy access to room from parking. Would definitely stay again if traveling in that area.

- KidEvans (10/5): A Simple Stay on the Quiet Side of The Smokies - We stayed at the Townsend Gateway Inn for four nights while attending a landscape photo class in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at the peak of the Fall leave season. The Inn looks like an old-fashioned roadside motel in sleepy town but it far exceeded our expectations. It was super clean and comfortable with an excellent bed, bedclothes, and a good shower. It was simple, not at all upscale but we would stay there again on a trip the "quiet side of the Smokies." The friendly hosts (and owners) even provided a goodie bag of snacks.
