Guest Reviews
- Hivon (9/5): Only one night but it was our favorite hostel of the trip and SamPanho was a very cute place. Will definitely try and st - Great room and very cute! We had a private balcony and our own bathroom! Great shower and sink and decor :) The room was great but needed a few more minutes outlets and lamps.
- Galano (10/5): Hermosa experiencia - Súper acogedor, hermosa experiencia.
Gracias Walter
- Carol (3/5): Wouldn’t go back - Very nice guy that works there and really accommodating Dingy, crammed hallways with bunk beds, icky kitchen, no lights in outdoor toilets. Gave the showers a miss. Glad it was only two nights.
- Sean (10/5): Had a ast. But wish I would have stayed longer. - Good people, sweet house cat, fun vibes and great host. Smelled like pee
- Anette (7/5): Hostel 15 min walk from the beach - Had a private room during Christmas and it was ok. It had a bit of a smell...maybe mold so I kept the door open most times. It is a 15 min walk to the beach, only 3 min to the main road 200 where the bus stops. Next door is a tienda supermarket and cross the stree you have a vegetable store and laundry place. Unfortunately, the place was not so social and was lacking daily activities or something to make it more lively. Was pretty dead. A/C at night was very noisy so had to sleep with ear plugs. Kitchen needs an update with more pots and pans and everything else that you need when cooking a meal. Was very basic. Cooked all our 4 nights here.
- Jacinta (1/5): It was not available and was put in another location where I got sick and they proceeded to leave a dead animal outside - It was not available and was put in another location where I got sick and they proceeded to leave a dead animal outside my door. It was not available and was put in another location where I got sick and they proceeded to leave a dead animal outside my door.
- maude (8/5): - J'ai adoré mon séjour (2 nuits), tout près de la plage et commodités, très propre et personnel accueillant. À quelques minutes du magnifique village de Sayulita.
- Axel (8/5): Great staff - The location is great because its a bit further from the busy area so its nice and quiet. I went during low season so there wasn't alot of people to interact with. However; Walter made up for that fact. As he is very attentive and welcoming. If anything, if i were to go back it would be because of the staff and because of Walter, that really made me feel at home. Would return The beds were a bit hard, but ive slept in worse

- Sarah (10/5): Lovely place - Very chill A bit pricey for a hostel
- Francis (9/5): Superb - price, location
- Kevin (7/5): Good -
- Jacob (9/5): Superb - I got the suite which was really nice, quiet, clean, and the bed was comfy. Good a/c. The only downside was that the wifi didn't reach this room. Small but good breakfast of various fruits and a bfast cake. Was overall super happy with the quality of the place for the price. The drinking water ran out one night, and the coffee was weak as X)
- Frederic (4/5): But I never got the refund and never got a room!! - I had booked this property and had two confirmations and yet when I showed up there was no room for me! The guy at the Front Desk was nice enough, and it seems like he tried to help me get a refund or work with Booking.com to let them know of the problem
- Marc (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kylie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thaís (8/5): Very good - They have a decent breakfast. The private room was equipped with all you need, and it was comfortable. They have a nice common area with a cute cat. Potable water was provided. There was one cockroach, and the room was a little bit musty.
- Inez (5/5): Not worth the money - The free breakfast is pretty good and the staff is nice. It’s close to the bus. I’m not very picky but this hostel was very overpriced. The beds are in the hallway from the reception (very strange) and they’re basically outdoors (there’s no wall). The top bed is hard to climb and the mattress is horrible (you can feel the metal structure of it) The bathrooms were also outdoors, not a problem for me but the sink was leaking and the toilets were clogging easliy. The wifi didn’t work by the beds. Over all I felt very uncomfortable sleeping in the open (both open to the reception and the outdoors). It’s also pretty far from the center, definitely walkable since San Pancho is small.
- Alicia (7/5): i’d come back here in a heartbeat! hotel san pancho was lovely! - beautiful clean facilities, wonderful staff!!! great location, super cute hostel cats. fully functional kitchen, and delicious breakfast included each morning, with a spacious common area to hang out and eat in. small private bunk bed room. the beds were cleaned, sheets were changed during our 6 night stay. the room lacked a few basic necessities such as hooks on the walls, the only place to hang anything was on the bed posts - for a beach destination it would be great to have a place to dry damp things. a small mirror and shelf would also go a long way in the room we were in!
- Doug (7/5): Good -
- Mikhail (7/5): Good -
- Rajeev (7/5): Not fancy but decent value for a private room. Friendly staff and people. - I didn't have the breakfast. The location is decent; it isn't super close to the playa but there is the theater across the street, a pharmacy next door, a convenience store, a smoothie place, Tonos restaurant etc, and very close to the bus. It is right on the main street, so there is some noise in the morning but nothing excessive. The staff are very accommodating and cheerful; helped out with extra charger cables, storage of luggage etc. There is a nice lounge area upstairs that is usually empty and a very basic kitchen. The partitions between rooms have gaps at top, so noise carries into the "private" rooms, so expect to wake up in the morning. The dorm beds are also on the walkway to the showers and toilets, so not super private.
There was quite a bit of smoking etc. (cigarettes and the other stuff) outside and inside the hostel. Unfortunately, there is a lot of cigarette smoking in San Pancho overall, not just at the hostel but it was annoying since I had to move from common areas to avoid smoke.
- Maura (10/5): I would definitely stay here again, it was great value, and if you’re going to be out all day anyway, it’s perfect for t - I loved that Walter, my host, was so friendly and was always smiling. I only stayed for two days, but it was like saying good morning to a friend every day. The location couldn’t be beat, a perfect walk to the beach, everything is right there for you. Restaurants, convenient stores, boutiques, you name it. I was in a dorm area with bunkbeds, and if you’re only going there to sleep, then it’s perfect. Part of the bed was in an outdoor area, and I loved the jungle feel and the sound of the wildlife. I didn’t hear any type of nightlife going on or people being loud, even though it was on the main strip. Although, I tend to prepare myself when I travel, I take earplugs with me! The bathrooms were cleaned daily, and there were plenty of showers to use with hot water! Free breakfast in the morning was great, fresh fruit, bread, coffee, and juices. This was located upstairs on a very quiet terrace. A great way to start the day.
- Mervin (9/5): A great hostel in a great beach town - I loved the spacious area upstairs where breakfast was served every morning. I loved the location because it was so easy to find and close to the bus.stop. I enjoyed the big rooftop for watching the sunrise and hanging my wet beach clothes every day. My mattress seemed a bit tired so I asked for a better one and that request was granted immediately
- Ksenia (9/5): We had a great stay, privacy for a very reasonable price and fresh fruits with delicios banana bread every day! - The staff was always friendly and helpful, Valter and Alan made us feel at home. We were supposed to stay in the hostel only for a couple of days but ended up extending the stay to 2 weeks. In the private rooms of the hostel (the ones with a bunk bed) you can hear the voices from the hall and other rooms, but the noices from the street are too far to hear. Also it’s a quite spot a little further from the beach, still in an easily walkable distance.
- Jaime (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Augusto (8/5): It's San Pancho - host by Don Gaucho 😃 - Spacious, quiet, clean, safe locker, and the ample roof top where I reconnected with the stars at night 🤫 Breakfast included, and overall value was okay Slept at the dorm's bunk-bed... Good and convenient setup along a hallway... but, would have needed newer mattresses to extend my stay passed the first night
Was kind of puzzled that the facilities are left unstaffed between ~10pm-8am. "Only registered residents" have access with the key... and got no instructions, or emergency contact number in case needed
- Emily (9/5): Nice hostel and staff, but the beds are not comfortable - Nice staff and vibe Staying in Bunk beds lining the hallway, beds uncomfortable
- Heidi (7/5): It was really fun and sunny all around - Wonderful staff and vibe. Great breakfast and very helpful. My mattress was horrible. Very uncomfortable!!! I think it was a box spring and the springs were sticking out. I recommend getting some new mattresses or offering pads or cushions or something. Also recommend people bring good earplugs!
- Austen (7/5): Good value for the cost, friendly and helpful staff, the bed was hard and uncomfortable. - Very friendly and helpful staff. Great value. Okay location. Free breakfast is nice. The bed was really uncomfortable.
- Theresa (9/5): Enjoyed it want to go back. 💐 - Too much repetition. I can’t eat nuts so wasn’t able to eat the bread that was served everyday. Coffeee was good. Fruit was fine. Just always the same. More variety. A hard boiled egg be nice.
- Lg (3/5): Poor - Breakfast was great! Convenient as you didn’t have to leave to find food when you wake. It included a delicious oatmeal baked treat, The staff member was friendly and as accommodating as he could be for the circumstances. The place was clean & had a great atmosphere. The walls are thin for the downstairs dorm beds & bedrooms, if any. I had booked a private room, arrived and there was no availability for me when I had paid 2 weeks prior through booking.com. I was advised they had overbooked; so a request to have my money refunded was initiated. This did not solve the problem of me not having a place to sleep I advised. My money was refunded however time is something you can never get back, and this resulted in time wasted trying to find another available place and solution!
My friend and I tried to inquire on potential places or solutions for a bed for me, as we had booked this location together, the staff member was as accommodating as he could be. I ended up sleeping on a mattress on the floor in a room with 4 other individuals so I wasn’t without a place to sleep as it was dark when we had arrived and everything else in town was booked up due to the music festival finding something in the same price range was not in favor! I would recommend calling ahead to ensure your reservation prior to your arrival.
I was not impressed with my encounters with booking.com as this was my first time booking with them and hostal san pancho not a good first experience! when I called to advise them of my booking being cancelled and asked for assistance finding a place as I was new to the area, they had recommended in the cancellation email and on the phone a hotel 30 km away in puerto Vallarta where we had just come from on our journey; not even the same town, they advised that hostal san pancho could not accommodate me & that I would have to search nearby places on my own. Not to mention the call dropped and the representative did not try calling me back. Service was fine on my end. trying to find a place to sleep at night when we were only there for the night, greatly cut into our visiting time that was already limited in san pancho!
- Noelle (10/5): Good, clean, safe place to stay in San Pancho - We had the suite with a nice big comfortable bed and private bathroom. It was lovely! Very clean and quiet. The breakfast was basic… coffee, tea, fruit and cake. The WiFi didn’t in the work, so we had to go to the main common area to work. It’s about a 10 minute walk to the beach. Overall, it’s a great hostel. WiFi in the rooms would be nice.
- Laura (9/5): Better than a lot of hotels that would charge 3 times as much. - Very spacious, comfortable mattress and pillows, plush towels. We had a problem with our door lock. We felt safe inside, the problem was trying to get into the room. Not once were we able to unlock our door without assistance. Being that the desk is not manned 24/7, this restricted the time spent out because we didn't want to be locked out of our room (room 4)
- Nicolas (2/5): Horrible stay - Friendly staff, quiet location My dorm was in the hallway, it was completely open (literally sleeping outside), bathrooms were outdoor, it‘s not clean and very old, the mattress was absolutely uncomfortable. Breakfast was fruit and a cake. A guy in the (open) dorm next door was smoking inside. I left after one night…
- Elizabeth (6/5): Pleasant - Breakfast could be varied and have something with protein. Great coffee and nice fruit selection. Clean rooms and clean common area. Didn't get the room we booked. Had to upgrade when we arrived.
- Ugne (8/5): Nice hostel for the Suites, not so much for dorm type - -We stayed in Classic Suite which is the best room this hostel can offer, and it was a very beautiful room with a balcony, a lot of space, working AC. It was very quiet and we were really comfortable in the room.
-The common space is also very nice and clean, there is a friendly cat too <3
-Breakfast was basic fruit and piece of banana bread with some traditional Mexican drinks such as Jamaica and coffee. The shower had very strong water pressure and plenty of hot water, which is not always the case here in Mexico.
-We also got to leave our backpacks before and after the stay at the reception, and got to use the toilets, the staff was friendly.
-Location of the hostel is convenient to come form the bus, as you don't need to walk far with your stuff, but it's quite far from the beaches. -Our room didin't have wifi, which was a big problem for my partner who didin't have any cell service in San Pancho, which meant he had to keep going to the common room every time he wanted to use his phone.
-The bathroom doesn't have a door, so have in mind that all the sounds and smells will be distributed within the whole room. Make sure to book this room with your partner, or someone you are comfortable showering in front of as shower is also see through in the open space. I wouldn't book this with a friend or family member.
-Also, when I used the common hostel toilets, I had to pass what seemed to be the hostel beds which felt a bit like invasion of privacy, as the beds were literally in the corridor.
- Bill (8/5): Very good -
- Elliott (1/5): bottom of the list place to stay - not a thing bed was a box spring with no mattress, all furniture was old and beat up, cushions non existant
- Jesse (8/5): Although somewhat noisy at times, this is a sweet spot with a genuinely awesome staff! - Breakfast was delicious and surprisingly filling! The staff was all very friendly, helpful and responsive. Towels were available from the front desk. The showers and bathrooms were cleaned regularly (daily I think), and the dining / chill area upstairs had great vibes and some lovely spontaneous music while we were there! The mattresses were springy and somewhat uncomfortable. This wasn't a big issue after the first night, as we adapted pretty quickly. The private room we had (two bunk beds) was right off of the courtyard and we could hear any loud guests clearly – namely the guy who (against the rules) smoked a cigarette in the courtyard at 6am every morning and then loudly coughed for a long time afterwards...
- Chimi (7/5): A reasonable budget place to stay with character. - I liked the communal space and the staff. The rooms are a bit dark and not quite as nice as in the pictures.
- Austin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zachary (10/5): Exceptional - A friend and I stayed in the private room. Comfortable with our own washroom and shower/ AC.
Depending on which room, the roosters sing to you.
The shared kitchen and space was lovely and made a few friends. It is about 10 minutes from the beach and just a little out of the main strip you have more peace.
Also across from a beautiful community centre with events to see depending on the schedule. 10/10 recommend as my first hostel experience
- Otniel (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jessica (10/5): Great place to stay - Front desk guys so amazing..all easy. HOT showers
- Beatrijs (5/5): Passable -
- Milena (7/5): Good -
- Mervin (9/5): Superb - Very good location. Very spacious area upstairs for having breakfast and socializing Climbing up to the top bunk was a bit difficult because there wasn't a real ladder
- Mark (7/5): Good -
- Oliver (1/5): Awful waste of time. - Honestly had no redeeming qualities. we didnt even stay the whole time we left early Staff helpfulness, overall hostel structure and accommodation.
- Felipe (9/5): Superb -
- Rosanna (6/5): Pleasant - Nice communal areas and friendly staff Expensive for what you get.
Room smelt of damp.
Window in the room opened up to an internal corridor so were unable to open it to air out the room and no natural light.
Kitchen was not well lit so cooking in very low light and with little equipment.
- Tait (7/5): was good for what we needed and at the beginning of our trip - location. it is close to the bus stop so you don’t have to walk your things very far getting off the bus. the town in small enough that it was within walking distance of everything still. the staff was friendly and helpful for a hostel where the dorm room is a hallway that people have to walk past to get to private rooms and the bathroom I found the price a bit high but it is coming into high season here. the free breakfast is pretty disappointing but the coffee and drinks in the morning are good, the breakfast is the most thinly sliced fruit I’ve ever seen and a small piece of nut and seed loaf that doesn’t taste like much
- Tait (8/5): Very good -
- Austin (1/5): Bad -
- Alberto (10/5): Exceptional -
- Guillaume (6/5): Pleasant - They asked for a cash deposit for the key. But couldn't get a hold of anyone to return it to us in the morning at 8am upon departure as the front desk isn't staffed until 8:30am.
- Karla (8/5): Very good - The breakfast was always a variety of fresh fruit and homemade bread. The coffee was good and the juice was also fresh. I thought the breakfast was perfect.
The whole hostal was always very clean. The staff was friendly and informed. If one staff member didn’t know the answer to a question he would check and then get the answer back to me later. My only recommendation is that they put some floor fans up in the dining area for better airflow when it’s really really hot. The air conditioning in my room worked great . There should be floor fans in the upstairs dining and lounge area.
- Niamh (4/5): Disappointing - I did not like this place. Apart from during check in, the staff were disinterested and more or less ignored you. There is nowhere comfortable to sit in the hostel as all the couches and armchairs are broken. The fridge is locked and there are signs around the place saying ‘not for guests’. It was also weirdly dark in the kitchen so had to use my phone light while trying to cook.
- Adir (5/5): Passable - Breakfast was tasty
Alan and Gustavo in the reception were nice
Choosing the bunk bed closed in with the walls made it more intimate and nice. And was good that next to the bed there was extra space to put my stuff. Lack of: electricity (my phone died and plans changed because I couldn't charge at night and morning, the fan didn't work and the room was hot, lack of hot water in one shower, lock of the main door didn't work well. Didn't feel secure enough.
The lockers were a bit small
In the mornings it was a bit noisy by the workers and that used to wake me up...
I moved to another hostel in my last night in san pancho
Bottom line: if there was electricity I would stay more. If they would take care of all the rest (privacy+noise), main door lock, to make sure there hot water in the shower, and that the water in the sink of the restroom dont flood to my legs but straight to the plants near it, it'd be much better.
- Jessie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Andrea (8/5): I recommend this hostel for a comfortable stay with friendly and helpful staff who go out of thier way to make your stay - Clean and comfortable. You really get your money's worth. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, especially the front desk crew. They were a big help to me when I voiced a concern about not being able to get wifi in my room. Management was informed and it was fixed immediately. I so really appreciated that. At times with the roosters crowing and dogs barking next door it got a bit noisy.
- Kate (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly staff. Great free breakfast, full of fresh fruit. Lovely and spacious common areas!
- Rebecca (7/5): Good -
- Bret (9/5): Superb - The staff is great (Alan was very warm and welcoming, like your good friend in San Pancho) and the common areas are nice.
Private rooms are comfortable The dorms are very basic (Some are more in a hallway than in their own rooms).
- Alicia (3/5): I love san pancho, but this hostel was not very good - Shower was Hot
Aircon was cold Window went out to the hallway and the window didn't lock (poor security)
Bed Was hard and not comfortable (pretty standard in mexico though)
Social Vibe was weird
Damp smell in the room
Room was very dark
Location was bad, far walk away from the beach - there are better hostels in the area
- Jonny (8/5): Great hostel for a cheap and cheerful stay in SP - great staff, great location room is pretty basic, no soap/shampoo
- Helen (7/5): Good -
- Nikki (9/5): Superb - I like the common spaces and front desk staff, the room had AC which actually saved me, I had a great sleep. Bathroom was clean and simple. The kitchen morning staff are very rude !
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb -
- Samir (7/5): Good - The short hair lady at reception was really great, lovely person and very helpful. We got the private room with balcony, the size was huge and deco was beautiful. my girlfriend literally couldn't sleep for days. You really need earplugs, the noise comes from everywhere, roosters, dogs, weird screams... It's not really the hostel fault, but it's somehow the noisiest place we've stayed - which you wouldn't expect considering it's in a fairly quiet area.
Everyday of our stay the breakfast was the same : fruits and a piece of banana bread
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Loa (9/5): Superb -
- Hanna (5/5): Passable -
- José (5/5): Passable -
- Jeffrey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ahmad (6/5): Pleasant -
- Andrew (2/5): Very poor - Very pleasant friendly staff. One of the mixed dorm “rooms” is actually just a hallway. With bunk beds. People walk across it to get to the bathroom. And the hallway connects to the foyer. So it’s not a room. Very misleading. They should tell you.
The photo is taken strategically to not show that.
There’s other rooms. But I’m staying in the hallway. I don’t recommend that. But I’m not sure there’s a choice.
There’s also a potentially mentally ill guy who’s on drugs who has been supposedly here for two months. He’s probably fine. But I would not pay to stay here if I knew they would let someone like that in a shared mixed dorm. The women upstairs told me they felt very uncomfortable with him.
If the hostel agrees to host someone like that, they should at least tell you that you’re sharing a room with someone like that. It is misleading and not right in my opinion. (I never write reviews, but had to for this)
Otherwise the hostel is fine. Very pleasant staff. Overall good vibe (minus that guy).
- Regina (7/5): Good - the staff is so nice
- Sharon (7/5): Fun - I like Alan our host. He was spot on when I called earlier with concerns about my room, he took care of the issue and made sure my needs were met. WiFi knob on fan switch broken.
- Janine (8/5): Excellent value and privacy where a lot of friends can stay together but not in each other's space. - Breakfast was good. Use of the kitchen was good. The outdoor noise was distracting, but settled down eventually
- Gardner (8/5): Perfect in San Poncho - The room clean, bed comfy, good small bfast, really helpful staff No chairs on rooftop, that would have Soo cool. The hrs of quiet time were very early, 9pm .
- Shannon (9/5): Superb -
- Uri (6/5): Pleasant -
- Diane (2/5): No space for luggage . Too small bedrooms - Thé beds are terribly uncomfortable
- Glenn (10/5): Exceptional - The staff. The reason I keep going back. Leaving.
- Nikki (9/5): Great friendly space with natural feel and good vibes - The staff were cheerful and helpful, great meals and breakfast. I also loved the upstairs common space. Nice natural feel to the dorm bathroom space. Really nice place Just that there was alot of water in front of the bathroom sink
- Schröter (10/5): Lovely home base in beautiful San Pancho - Great location, clean, lovely people, nice space. The kitchen/commom area is beautiful, and so are the staff who work there. Super helpful and friendly. Nice facilities. My biggest issue was the mattress, they're old spring mattresses (in the dorms) and really uncomfortable. The kitchen equipment is a bit sparse, and you walk through the dorm to get to the washrooms. Could use some hangers on the shower doors, and sometimes there was no drinking water.
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- John (8/5): Very good - Good little breakfast and ok price for high season.
Good wifi and nice looking room. A bit far from beach and center of San pancho.
Smelled a bit funky in the corridor, probably from the cat!
- Joth (8/5): Good - Loved San Pancho x - Liked the breakfast and especially the super nice, friendly and helpful staff. Good hostel, clean and comfortable. A little far from the beach
- Samuel (2/5): Low budget, minimal accomidations - Very minimal...I guess you get what you pay for The man at the desk was attentive and helpful
