- Nathan (10/5): - Staff, food, location and room was all amazing.
We will definitely come back.
- Lee (10/5): - Super nice staff
- Kelly (10/5): - Excellent services
- Geoffrey (8/5): - Nice tropical vibe, good breakfast. Property showing its age a bit, but altogether a pleasant stay.
- ann (10/5): - Beautiful setting.
- Rahi (10/5): - Nice
- Jennifer (8/5): - Nice place, clean, staff very friendly, location is great for the beach
- Robert (4/5): - Bed was not comfortable. No extra pillows or blankets. A/C not cool enough. Breakfast was decent. Servers were very nice.
- Bret (10/5): - Easy walk to the beach, quiet location, nice pool.
- lori (8/5): - Great location. Old world hotel. Kept up well. Wonderful people!!!
- Efren (10/5): - Overall a great place to stay that’s only walking distance to the beach. The room is clean and well suited with anything you need to stay for a comfy get away.
- Deborah (10/5): - Simple clean friendly convenient and reasonably priced
- tanyad636 (10/5): 10/10 hotel - This was a budget hotel for us. I had a hard time finding a place that had availability, but I'm glad we ended up at Hotel Mangaby! It feels like a hotel from the 60's. The rooms are basic, but spacious and have a nice outside seating area. The air conditioning and wi-fi worked great. The pool area is FANTASTIC! Pretty, relaxing and plenty of seating. The breakfast was simple but really delicious. The location was fantastic! So close to the beach, but also very chill and quiet. Staff were great and they never pushed a trip advisor review at you so all these reviews are from people like me who take the time to give them their kudos.
- Steve (8/5): - .
- Duncangang (6/5): Close to the beach. Needs updated - Very friendly staff. Breakfast wasn’t included in the stay which we didn’t know. We stayed in the apartment. I think it is included in the rooms they said. The shower in the main bathroom leaked water all over the floor so we had to use the other shower. It is a good option for a lower budget hotel with the basics. The bar area is not open for drink purchases. It is only open for the breakfast. It is a great location to the beach.
- David (10/5): - This is a nice family operated business, a nice place to stay!
- Chad (10/5): - Great location, rooms in good condition. Staff was very accommodating and friendly, ensuring the experience was perfect. I would stay here again.
- John (8/5): - There is plenty of wildlife around (Howler Monkeys, pizotes, raccoons, skunks, exotic birds); and it’s an easy walk to the beach.
Plenty of eating options, and there’s a convenience store a 6 minute walk away.
Good place to crash while enjoying the beach life.
- BCaillier (10/5): Perfect oasis! - We loved this little hotel! We booked this last minute after we decided Samara was not for us and headed back to Playa Hermosa. We are so glad we did! The pool is a beautiful little oasis. We enjoyed the small, friendly atmosphere. We met lots of other guests at the pool and at breakfast which was fun. The owner was very friendly and obviously works very hard to keep the hotel looking good. He also helped us arrange taxis and excursions. AC worked great and mini fridge was nice. Breakfast was good with great coffee. The hotel is in a great location, 2 blocks from the beach. There is a small grocery store across the street. Our favorite restaurant was also across the street, Almar. Great options for lunch and dinner for less than $10. The only downside to the hotel for us was that the beds were too firm. We loved this hotel and will be back!
- Vladimir (8/5): - This property is within 3-5min walk from Playa Hermosa
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The 6 person suite was outdated and didn’t quite match the expectations from the online pics. It also had bits of sand on the chairs and sofa upon arrival which was still doable by our group as we just put towels over when we sat. The thing that was difficult to deal with was the amount of larger brown ants crawling on the floor and walls we discovered when we finally got in after a long day and were ready to just sleep. We ended up killing as many as we could and pulled the beds away from the wall, only to discover from the dirtiness under that the bed clearly hadn’t been moved in a while to get a decent clean in. The window was open upon our initial arrival, so maybe this is how the ants got in and hopefully it’s not an ongoing problem. We only spent a night here, but it’s not a place we’d do again even though it’s so close to the beach.
- ZHIJIE (10/5): - The management was so helpful and willing to be flexible and accommodating. My husband needed medical treatment and the hotel staff made the calls needed to get us help. We also got a bigger room at the end of our stay. The pool was really nice.
- Ruth (8/5): Clean and modest hotel - close to the beach - This a modest hotel. I rented an apartment. It had 2 bedrooms,Tvs and well equiped kitchen. It has a fridge too. The beds are not good.. they are old and heavy. the doors do not close because of the beds.. you need to move the beds to be able to close the doors ! dining table, chairs, are old.. the apartment needs an upgrade- we paid $254 for one nitght. Breakfast is modest too. Fruts are cheep in CR. I do not know why the small portions and not so good looking. Pleae improve breakfast. The best is the nice pool
- George (8/5): - Perfectly fine for a last night close to the beach.
- Selvaraj (10/5): - The manage came through when my teenage kids locked their phones inside the safe. Thank you!
- Cynthia (2/5): - First let me say I am not a "5 star" traveller. I have stayed at many 2 and 3 star properties in many countries and understand things are different in 2nd and 3rd world tropical countries. But Hotel Mangaby was unacceptable. Stay away. Bathroom not cleaned . Garbage full of last guests' dirty smelly toilet tissue. Cockroaches in the bathroom and around the bed even with the lights on! Imagine if I shut them off. The lady at the desk kindly helped me get a taxi and another hotel. I booked 2 nights and can understand paying for 1 night( I stayed none) but the hotel manager insisted on keeping payment for the second night as well. I guess that's how they make their money! Stay away...trust me. It's not worth it. I've never submitted such a bad review anywhere. I wouldn't stay for free...or even if you paid me!!
- Steve (10/5): - The hotel and the owners are fantastic! I read other reviews from recent travelers, and I have to say that this was a fabulous value and a really comfortable hotel. The staff is so accommodating. If you are looking for a luxury getaway with all the bells and whistles, this is not the place for you. HOWEVER, all of our needs were met, the pool and pool area are great, the private patio area for each room is fantastic, room service is very thorough and the place is clean and comfortable. We will definitely stay again on our next trip back. The location cannot be beat! The only negative was that the poolside bar/restaurant was not open during our stay due to staffing issues. This would have made it so perfect, but it was perfect none the less!
- John (10/5): - The owner was so friendly and helpful! It is close to the beach, and several excellent restaurants. There are mini suites, or standard rooms. We had a suite, which was well stocked with dishes, flatware, pots, pans, blender, slow cooker, and toaster. Also pitcher, cups, glasses for wine, and rocks drinks. We were only there for 3 days, and it was a nice stay!
- Emma (10/5): - The staff were extremely nice and the breakfast they offer was delicious!
The pool is maintained well and its a quite area! Would highly recommend for new travellers!
- Noemy (8/5): - Very convenient location and good attention by the owners.
- Irvin (10/5): - Perfect
- Heather (6/5): - The hotel was fine but there are others in the area that are much nicer
- Ryan (6/5): - The hotel was average, but the staff was friendly. Not much to do in the area.
- NORVEY (10/5): - Friendly people, very clean
- PETROS (10/5): - Our stay at the hotel Mangaby was very enjoyable overall. Rooms were clean, and Alberto and Magda were always very friendly and kind and ready to help out. If you're ever in Playa Hermosa, check this place out.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - This place is awesome.
- Kristin (10/5): - The room was lovely and well-maintained, the pool was fantastic with a small waterfall, the staff were helpful and friendly, and great dining options and beach access was easily walkable. I would definitely stay here again.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Great staff, close to a spectacular beach and at a great price. I highly recommend this beautiful property to everyone.
- Jeremy (10/5): - Great location, great price. Simple and near the beach and airport.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Excellent value close to the beach with an amazing staff.
- V8641OIjeffg (6/5): Decent but part it’s prime. - Decent hotel in a great location. Definitely past its prime. Seemed like the small stuff was missing; had a suite. In theory, has a kitchen and therefore no breakfast included. The kitchen had a coffee maker but no coffee. No way to cook as there was no cooktop. No, a microwave over doesn’t count. Also no washcloths with the towels. Bed was as hard as a rock. It was clean and I would consider staying again if I did not find a more preferable hotel.
- jeff (6/5): - Check in staff was rude. Had a suite so no free breakfast (didn’t realize when I upgraded rooms) yet no coffee in the room not was there a cooktop for me to make breakfast. Even some of the worst places I stayed have coffee in the rooms. Clean and in a great location but definitely past its prime. Bed was as hard as a rock. Still upset that the upgraded room cost me the free breakfast!
- Daniel (10/5): - Nicer small hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Pool was great and refreshing. Breakfast was okay.
Only con was the lack of ice at the hotel.
- kevin (10/5): - clean, safe, and convenient
- 230cristyd (10/5): Wonderful hotel - This hotel was wonderful, and the staff was eager to please. I highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Guanacaste! The pool area was wonderful, and it's just a very short walk from a beautiful beach! A small convenience store and wonderful brick oven pizza are even closer than the beach.
- Brent (6/5): - A basic motel with a nice pool area. The room had a safe but the room doors for entry are dual sliding glass and not very secure. Very flimsy lock throw that didn’t catch half the time. I was diving the day I checked out and asked if I could store one suitcase until 3pm in office. Lady at check in was fairly surly and unhelpful. Told it was impossible. Which was weird as she was sitting there with no customers on her phone.
- Norriseli25 (10/5): An Eco-Friendly Retreat - Hotel Mangaby is more than just a place to stay – it's a commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. From eco-friendly building materials to energy-efficient practices, the hotel is dedicated to minimizing its carbon footprint while providing guests with a luxurious experience. I was impressed by the hotel's efforts to reduce waste and conserve resources, such as offering refillable toiletry containers and implementing recycling programs. Staying at Hotel Mangaby allowed me to enjoy a guilt-free getaway knowing that I was supporting a business that prioritizes the health of the planet.
- Mangala (10/5): - It is a small property, very close to the beach, nothing outstanding, just another motel, good enough to sleep at night. Clean, quiet, decent breakfast. But not outstanding in any way.
- joyg505 (10/5): Family-Friendly Luxury at its Finest - My family and I had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Mangaby, and it was truly a memorable experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and cared for, going out of their way to accommodate our needs. The spacious rooms provided ample space for our family to relax and unwind, while the hotel's amenities kept us entertained throughout our stay. The kids especially loved the pool, which offered hours of fun in the sun. With its family-friendly atmosphere and top-notch service, Hotel Mangaby is the perfect destination for travelers of all ages.
- luzwood (10/5): A Culinary Journey to Remember" - Dining at Hotel Mangaby was a highlight of my stay. The restaurant boasts a diverse menu featuring a fusion of local and international flavors, all expertly prepared using the freshest ingredients. Each dish was a work of art, bursting with bold and innovative flavors that left me craving more. The attentive staff provided impeccable service, ensuring that every aspect of my dining experience was perfect. Whether enjoying breakfast by the pool or savoring a gourmet dinner under the stars, dining at Hotel Mangaby is a culinary journey you won't soon forget
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Great breakfast included
- kellim407 (10/5): A Serene Haven Amidst Urban Vibrancy - Hotel Mangaby offers a serene haven amidst the vibrant energy of the city. From the moment I entered, I was enveloped in a sense of tranquility. The architecture seamlessly integrates with the surrounding nature, creating an oasis of calm. The room was elegantly furnished, providing the perfect retreat after a busy day of exploring. With its convenient location and peaceful ambiance, Hotel Mangaby is a sanctuary for weary travelers seeking solace in the midst of urban life.
- D2877PJcherylb (10/5): A Paradise for Nature Lovers - If you're a nature lover like me, you'll feel right at home at Hotel Mangaby. Surrounded by lush tropical gardens, this hotel offers a serene oasis where you can reconnect with the natural world. I loved waking up to the sound of birds chirping outside my window and spending leisurely afternoons exploring the hotel's grounds. The highlight of my stay was the guided nature walk organized by the hotel, where I had the opportunity to learn about the local flora and fauna from knowledgeable guides. Whether you're taking a dip in the pool or simply relaxing on your private balcony, Hotel Mangaby provides the perfect backdrop for a peaceful retreat immersed in nature's beauty.
- jacquiem137 (10/5): Great value, close to the beach. Enjoyed my stay! - Sweet, small hotel located a block off the gorgeous beach. What you see is what you get. Very pretty pool area, clean rooms, decent bathroom, small fridge and good ac. The owner was very kind and hospitable. He made arrangements for a 5:30 am taxi pickup to the airport for a decent rate. Breakfast was delicious. I didn’t see that any other meals were available on site in the 2 days I was there. There were restaurants right around the hotel, as well as a convenience store across the street. I walked to the beach and had wonderful experiences eating at 2 very close by ocean side restaurants (Aqua Sport and Roberto’s). Hotel Mangaby is likely one of the best values in the area. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again!!
- Sorin (8/5): - Pool looks great, food not right home about, room looks pretty used up
- Marilyn (8/5): Nice clean hotel, but don’t expect an early meal. - Mangaby is close to the beach and has two troops of Howler Monkeys nearby, a big plus for me. It was generally lean, and the maid came in daily. We had a little trouble getting breakfast on time. One morning, we were being picked up at 7:00 for an excursion but the hotel would not serve breakfast until 7:15 at the earliest. So even though we had paid for breakfast and requested it early, we could not get it. Another morning, we requested 7:15 breakfast due to a 7:30 pickup. That morning it was ready about 7:30. No refund for breakfasts we could not get.
- roselynw903 (8/5): Enjoyed our stay! - This is an older hotel, so some things may not meet your expectations if you are looking for a place that's all shiney and modern, but it is very clean and comfortable and the staff is friendly and hard working. Excellent location a block from the beach, with a store and other restaurants steps away. It would have been nice to have a coffe/tea maker and microwave in the room, but otherwise no complaints.
- 458kenta (10/5): An Unforgettable Staycation Experience - My recent staycation at Hotel Mangaby exceeded all expectations. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality. The hotel's design seamlessly blends modern comforts with elements of nature, creating a relaxing ambiance that instantly put me at ease. The room was immaculately clean and well-appointed, with luxurious amenities that made me feel pampered throughout my stay. I spent hours lounging by the pool, surrounded by tropical foliage and soaking in the sunshine. With its convenient location and impeccable service, Hotel Mangaby is the perfect destination for a rejuvenating getaway.
- 129vanessap (10/5): A Tropical Oasis in the Heart of the City - My stay at Hotel Mangaby was nothing short of magical. Tucked away amidst lush greenery, this hotel offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, with views overlooking the vibrant gardens. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, making me feel right at home from the moment I arrived. I particularly enjoyed dining at the hotel's restaurant, where I savored delicious dishes made with fresh, local ingredients. If you're looking for a tranquil retreat with top-notch amenities, look no further than Hotel Mangaby.
- deanwheele013 (10/5): Guanacaste Gem - Hotel Mangaby is a true gem in Guanacaste. The short distance to the beach, combined with the relaxing pool and tasty restaurant options, made our stay unforgettable. The hotel location is just perfect , beautiful place,Would definitely return!
- lelandparks30 (10/5): A Slice of Paradise - Staying at Hotel Mangaby felt like discovering a hidden slice of paradise. The proximity to Playa Hermosa, the inviting pool, and the delicious meals at the restaurant made it a memorable experience. The staff was incredible hepful with tours and activities in the area
- 39ralphf (10/5): Fantastic Location - Hotel Mangaby's location is unbeatable. A short walk to the beach and with a restaurant serving delectable dishes, it's a perfect spot for those looking to enjoy the beauty of Guanacaste. The swimming pool was an added bonus. rooms were very nice and clean, we had a big room with two bedrooms.
- paulian291 (10/5): Unwind in Nature's Embrace - Hotel Mangaby is a haven for nature lovers. Surrounded by greenery and just steps away from the beach, it's an ideal spot to unwind. The pool and restaurant made the stay even more enjoyable. We had one of the standard rooms on the second floor, very nice and clean room.
- romerojana37 (10/5): harming and Cozy - Hotel Mangaby's charm lies in its cozy atmosphere. The short distance to Playa Hermosa, the inviting pool, and the delightful restaurant created a wonderful ambiance. A great choice for a relaxed stay. We were in mangaby for a week and we jut loved this hotel
- thelmasherman (10/5): Beach Paradise Retreat - Hotel Mangaby is a true retreat for beach lovers. Just a short stroll from the ocean, the convenience is unmatched. The swimming pool and restaurant complemented the laid-back vibe perfectly. Very nice and clean rooms, Hotel mangaby is the perfect spot
- KRISTINA (6/5): - Nice rooms. Only 1 English speaking channel that cycled the same movies. Stairs outside room attached to room; sounded like a herd of elephants.
- patrick (10/5): - This place was wonderful right from check in!!
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Our granddaughter loved the pool as did the grownups.
- Warren (10/5): - I stayed with family for 12 days. The hotel is very clean, lovely swimming pool, and very friendly staff. Several restaurants are within walking distance as well as a beach. Our room had very nice beds and excellent air-conditioning. The view outside our room was beautiful. I highly recommend Staying here and it is also family friendly.
- Virginia (10/5): Cute family run hotel in Playa Hermosa - We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Mangaby. The breakfast was wonderful! We really enjoyed the pool directly outside our door. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
- Ginger (10/5): - We loved this property. Although an older facility, the staff were amazing and friendly and worked so hard! The breakfast was so delicious and Magda at the front desk was a sweetheart and helped us so much! We would definitely go back. Our balcony was used daily for bird watching, iguana sightings and viewing the vegetation around the pool. It was extremely quiet and enjoyable. Ty Hotel Mangaby!!!
- Agnieszka (10/5): - Property is very nice but needs some updating.
- Becky (8/5): - They DO NOT HAVE A HOT TUB.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Super quiet, inexpensive, safe place with great staff. Nice pool too.
- Jose (10/5): Great Stay - Had a great time
The room service and breakfast was pretty good
I would definitely stay there again
- Jeffrey (10/5): - The staff and property are amazing. Short walk to the beach at a great price.
- Karen (10/5): - The staff are very friendly and accommodating. It is an easy walk to the beach. We had the apartment unit and it was clean and comfortable. I would stay here again.
- Debra (10/5): - The staff were very accommodating and extremely helpful when I encountered a problem
- Lee (6/5): - Needs updating especially bathrooms(very grungy) and pool(lots of tiles missing)
We got the breakfast included, not worth it 1.5 toast, 1egg, 3 slices of fruit, half a hot dog wiener. Easy walk to the beach and market
- Rose-Ann (10/5): - We were very pleased with our stay at Hotel Mangaby. Our room was clean and very comfortable, the hotel cleaning service made sure of this. Great job ladies!!!! We enjoyed the continental breakfast that was offered, the pool and waterfall were lovely, and the staff were always smiling and very friendly.
The hotel is a 5-minute walk from the beach and many restaurants. I would recommend Coco Viquez restaurant. Delicious food and for a reasonable price.
Thank you Alberto, Nelsy and Magda for your great recommendations, your assistance in calling taxis to get us to and from our adventures and most of all making us feel welcome and at home. See you again soon.
- Adrian Arguello (6/5): - I recently stayed at the Mangaby hotel and had a mixed experience. While I enjoyed the pool and terrace amenities, unfortunately, the cleanliness of the hotel was not up to par. We found cockroaches in our room on both nights of our stay, and there was a consistently unpleasant odor. Additionally, the furniture was quite old, and the refrigerator had rust.
On the positive side, the air conditioning worked well, the TV signal was good, and the Wi-Fi coverage was excellent. The hotel's location was also a highlight, as it was conveniently located near some great restaurants and just a short walk from the beach.
Overall, while there were some enjoyable aspects of our stay at the Mangaby hotel, the cleanliness issues detracted from the experience. I would recommend that the hotel management prioritize improving the cleanliness and upkeep of the rooms to ensure a more pleasant stay for guests in the future.
- CHeryl (10/5): Good Room for Good Price! - This was a perfect stay for us, just what we needed after a red eye. The rooms were comfortable and clean and they had a nice outdoor patio for us to hang out on. The pool was clean with comfortable lounge chairs. We didn't try their breakfast, not up early enough :( ... I really liked playa hermosa for just one night, maybe 2. The beach is 2 minute walk one way and not very busy and the restaurants are 2 minutes the other way.
- Robert (8/5): Pleasant Stay at Mangaby - I did the two bedroom suite for a party of two so we had plenty of room, which we did - Overall the property is nice but a little dated - The chief issue we both faced was VERY spotty wifi, which we were both leaning on - The bathrooms could use abs update with no area to place toiletries - The shower bypass took some manipulation to get it too work - The housekeeping staff was very good - The hotel is well situated permitting a short walk to beach or area restaurants - The onsite restaurant never was staffed when we were in hotel so can’t comment in this space
- joshua (8/5): - The breakfasts were good and cheap. Ac was good and staff were friendly. Rooms are basic but clean
- Jef (10/5): - The pool and waterfall were fantastic! Ability to have a freshly cooked breakfast, not just a buffet, was great, but would like more options. If you get up early enough, but after dawn, you can see monkeys traveling around. A little better insect pest control would be nice, but you're in the jungle, so some is unavoidable.
- Dawn (10/5): - Alberto and his family were amazing to work with. We thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful pool area and were offered a wonderful breakfast each morning. Being only 300m from the beautiful Playa Hermosa and also close to some local “sodas”, it was the best of both worlds.
- Christy (8/5): - Our room was clean and comfortable. The air conditioning worked well, the shower had plenty of hot water and breakfast was good. The pool and its area was nice, and we liked having our own patio area.
- Paul (8/5): - Great location.
Friendly staff.
Excellent privacy. Good
Price. Breakfast was
Mediocre. Pool was terrific. Would definitely stay
again.
- Jay (8/5): - This is place is near the ocean and has a very clean pool. Breakfast was very good with fruit, juice, coffee and the typical Costa Rica Breakfast.
- Jessica (10/5): - Great place to stay 5 min walk from playa hermosa beach, market and great restaurant/local bars also within a 5 min walk, great place for beer and fish to go is pescado loco which is also in walking distance…so much in walking distance…
- Lisa (10/5): - Thank you for a lovely stay in quiet Hermosa. We loved the pool and the patio at our room, and appreciator having our room ready early.
- John (10/5): - Quiet and great proximity to the beach and local restaurants.
- Margo (8/5): - The pool view was lovely. Many beachside restaurants were enjoyed. We enjoyed the ocean!
- chris (10/5): - Family owned- family run operation whose goal is for you to feel like you are "at home". Beautiful people, beautiful property, beautiful persona.
- Lorna (10/5): - We loved our stay. We walked to the beach and restaurants nearby, enjoyed the pool and delicious breakfasts. Quiet calm and friendly vibe. Not luxurious, but it had everything we needed and more in all the important details. The owner-managers are good people, very friendly and helpful. So happy to have booked this hotel
- Marlene (10/5): Nice Family run hotel. - Hotel Mangaby is a nice family owned hotel within a block of the Pacific ocean. The place was clean. The room featured a kitchenette and seating including a couch and 2 chairs. The owner helped us with local transportation. There was air conditioning. I did find the bed a bit firm.
- Robert (8/5): - Walking distance to one of the nicest beaches. Easy food options and great friendly staff.
- Amie (10/5): Highly recommend. - Very friendly and helpful staff with a calm and easy going atmosphere.
- Randall (10/5): - The people in the staff are very friendly commendations in nice awesome breakfast included the area is very nice around here
