Guest Reviews

- Nick (8/5): A really great room/hotel in a mediocre location. Great value--would stay again. - I love the digital login process, the building design, the layout, the room, the huge comfortable bed, the wooden floors, the rooftop deck, and the self-service lobby. I enjoyed actually not interacting with anyone to have to check in or out. The building itself, and the room itself, was honestly excellent and a tremendous value. The location is walkable in San Diego, which is convenient, but the area immediately around the Davis is unfortunately full of homelessness. I am a large man so I feel fine walking here from other parts of downtown, but I wouldn't subject my wife or daughters to it. The room was very loud, the street was just outside the room and all night long I was hearing the cars, speeding motorcycles, homeless people talking or yelling, etc. They know this...they provide earplugs and a great sound machine which I definitely used to help me sleep.

- Jerrod (6/5): -
- Terry (10/5): - Will be back again
- Benjamin (7/5): - Very easy to check-in, convenient location, nice rooftop, plenty of clean towels. Room was small but nice. The room was mostly clean, but the duvet cover was ripped and kept coming off of the duvet, and of course the duvet itself did not look very clean. There were some stains and hair on it so it would have been nice if the duvet cover stayed in place. Bed was super loud and squeaky and not very comfortable.
- omargI7838ZY (10/5): Nice place - Perfecto location, nice and clean, easy for everything, atmosphere 100.
Don’t hesitate to book…..
- Mathias (5/5): -
- James (8/5): Ideal for a very quick stay - Lovely hotel with good quality fixtures and fittings.
Very helpful friendly staff. Seems they compromised room size and comfort for quantity of rooms. I was very surprised at home small the room was. So small, the air conditioning unit is pressed against the bed, not allowing air circulation.

- Gilleland (1/5): I didn't "stay" at the property, I can't sum it up as the place simply was not accessible for me. - Nothing! I didn't even check in. No elevator; no humans anywhere to help an old lady with a cane and a large bag up the MANY stairs to second-floor roomns.
- dillonb678 (10/5): Chill and clean - This place was awesome! Super clean, great location, and just an easy stay all around. The service was great too. They checked in on us to make sure everything was good, which we appreciated. Everyone was respectful, and the rooftop was pretty cool too. Thanks again!

- Laura (1/5): While the building itself is lovely, the room I was put in was NOTHING what I expected and was far short of any value fo - It had great style. My room was nothing like what the photos suggested I would get for the fare. It was smaller than a walk in closet and also incredibly noisy w paper thin walls and ceiling. It also stank of sewer.
- Dana (6/5): -
- Tania (10/5): -
- Herriage (2/5): I would not stay there again. - I liked the location I did not like the old style bathroom doors. They would not close.
- Tracy (1/5): I wish that I had stayed somewhere that had on site parking. - Well, not much. Front Door which is supposed to be secured with code entry was found wide open and unlocked for anyone to wander into the hotel without anyone there to screen the person which made me feel very uncomfortable as there was only a small lock to our actual room protecting us from the outside elements. That is a major lack of security, and should have been fixed immediately but wasn't repaired until the 3rd day of our stay.
I have been accused of smoking in the room, because of a cigarette butt (1 single cigarette) which I smoked outside the property and then tossed in my trash upon my return to my room as to not litter on the sidewalk in front of the property where I smoked said cigarette. (Check the video footage in front of the hotel entry door, that is where I smoked the entire time of my stay.
As far as any smoke detector disabling or whatever accusations made, I deny any involvement of putting a plastic sack around the detector as I didn't even notice the detector to begin with, or a bag that was placed over it, and I assume it was there in place before I entered the room for our stay.
I did bring in 1 small metal chair to the room to use for sitting as there was no other seating in the room besides the bed which I find highly unusual as most hotels provide other seating than just the bed that you sleep on. I did regretfully forget to place it back in the lobby upon checking out, that should not be just cause to keep 250.00 of the deposit for borrowing a chair. There is nothing to support your claims of smoking in the room, no smells, no burns or damage to any of the linens or furniture that was in the room. These charges are absolutely invalid and I take offense to your company just blatantly charging such an obscene amount without even a phone call to discuss the accusations.

- P8442NTbiancaj (4/5): Not Great - Very kind online staff, they were quick to respond. However this is not located in a good area. It’s unfortunately right in the middle of an area experiencing a homeless and drug problem
One night during my stay, I turned on the AC to combat the mugginess in the room. The room soon flooded with a urine smell. Someone must’ve peed directly outside my unit (I was on the ground floor facing an alley).
Also in the corner of two wall there were what appeared to be black mold growing, which explains my intense breathing issues as soon as I stepped in the room.
Lastly, the walls are very thin and all throughout the night it sounded like someone was stomping around my front door with large boots. Items were also slammed against the wall that startled me out of my sleep.
- Deniece Nica Pearl Sajo (8/5): if only there is someone who is cleaning the trash and changing towels, that would be perfect - i like that it is clean and there is a cofee and water available no one is cleaning the trash and changing our towels

- V1586TPsofiaz (10/5): Nice place - I traveled alone, and for a few days it was perfect. It has a good location and they make everything very clear and easy. Recommend
- 430kendala (10/5): Short and Sweet - This place was DARLING! For a single person needing a room for a few nights, it was perfect. The bed was unbelievably comfortable, I didn't want to get out. The check-in/check-out process was easy and straight forward. The rain-shower head was incredible. It was nice to have a fridge in the room, and a microwave downstairs with access to water, coffee, and tea. I would recommend this location and stay here again.
- Mendoza (7/5): Good for a short stay, very practical - Great location close to a lot of great restaurants and public transportation to the zoo, airport, etc.
They give you cookies, water, coffee. The room is small. There's virtually no space to eat or sit other than the bed.
You need a code to get into the hotel, which I appreciated for safety. But late at night coming into the hotel I found myself fumbling for a code with my bags—not fun.
- Ruelas (10/5): - Idk i just liked the vibe of the place overall. Perfect for what we needed. We were out most of the time so we didnt need a whole lot of ammenities added on to our pricing but it literally had all we needed. Easy to find. Easy to get in
- Mitzi Alejandra (8/5): Buen tamaño y cercanía - La independencia para hacer check in y check out La cantidad de vagos que hay y no hay parking
- Ali Muse (7/5): smell of the place is smelling old smell and could be better some natural smell like flowers - location and backage storage staff should be available at least day time and clearance time should be after 1:00pm
- Kaleb (8/5): - This hotel was perfect for what we needed on our stay. The price for a king bed and AC was hard to beat and the aesthetics were superb. We especially liked the entrance lobby and the shower in our room. If you’re on the first floor you can hear upstairs neighbors a little. The rooftop was cool but none of the fire places appeared to be working and there wasn’t clearly posted instructions anywhere. All in all, I plan on staying here again when I visit San Diego.
- David (10/5): - Walking distance to Gaslamp. Rooms were pretty small but had everything you needed !
- Roya (6/5): - Quit place but the floors were very dirty!
- Danika (8/5): - Great value! Loved the easy check-in process and the decor. Location close to restaurants/bars, and Petco park. Only issue we had in our room was the A/C not blowing cold air and was very loud but they provided ear plugs. On our check-out day the A/C finally started to feel like it was working. Cleanliness was good but cleaners missed a questionable food stain. Overall charming hotel but slightly missed a few marks.
- Danielle (8/5): Very convenient for Gas Lamp Quarter & convention - The location was good; about a 15 minute walk from the convention center. The room was very clean and the area was quiet overall. I spent some time on the rooftop lounge which was done nicely. I think the only thing I would have personally preferred would be having someone at the front desk. Not that the virtual front desk was bad at all; it was perfectly fine and convenient when you want to be an introvert. All of my questions were answered right away by the virtual front desk. I think I just like the idea of having someone there. I have no complaints, honestly, and would stay here again.
- Valerie (10/5): - Very clean except for hair in the shower drain. Because there was no staff I wasn’t worried about my things being taken. Much cheaper than other hotels. I would definitely do this again. It was like staying at a friend’s spare room. Only thing I missed was an ice machine, but the water cooler/coffee maker was right outside my door!
- Stacy (10/5): - Excellent renovated property w Goo Service considering all online...
- Katelyn (8/5): - Very walkable to a lot of downtown and multiple bus/trolley stops. Sometimes gets a little loud; room does not get dark. Suggestion: please put up curtains on top of the blinds, the blinds do not block out the light from outside.
- Selene (10/5): - Nice boutique hotel. Cute and chick. Industrial and historic design. Great location, near gaslamp and petco park
- kevinmB9029RE (10/5): 5 outta 5 - Awesome stay ! Very friendly attendant if you need assistance. I didn’t get the email at the correct time with the confirmation number, but I asked the gentleman working the front desk and he was of great service !
The room itself was awesome! Cool furnishing and super clean, and accommodating.
Down the street from petco park as well.
- Michael (10/5): - It was a great and peaceful stay!
- Alessandro (6/5): - It was fine aside from the strange smell
- Julie (2/5): - Terrible experience checking in. No information emailed prior to arrival. I did the pre verification on line several months ago before change of ownership. We couldn’t get in to the property, online kept saying reservation could not be found. No staff available to ask, tel no provided said not taking calls. After 3 hours on phone to Expedia we finally got into the room
- Brennon (2/5): - Walked in to filthy unclean room. Took while to get thru for help. Assistance was able to get refund only after multiple phone calls and requests.
- Frank (10/5): - Nice room
- tiffania972 (10/5): A comfortable place to land. - Stylish and simple. Wonderful shower, comfortable bed, and thoughtful amenities. My flight got in really late and this was my first time in San Diego but I was so happy to have begun my trip at the Davis. It was perfect.
- Stacy (10/5): - Everything was great!
- Katharine (10/5): Good stay in downtown San Diego - Nice little boutique hotel. 10 minute walk to Gaslamp District. The room was very clean & the bed was comfortable. There is no one at the front desk, so all communication is via text but it was run very well; any questions or concerns were answered almost immediately.
- Denise (10/5): - Very pretty, very clean
- erikpR6498SG (2/5): Reservation cancelled by Sonder two weeks before my trip - They cancelled my reservation today - two weeks before the trip -- because of "a change of operators." I booked this months ago and hotel prices have increased significantly so the refund really isn't enough to make up for the abrupt cancellation -- without any good reason.
- Jill (6/5): - I’ve never been to a place with self check in - I was not prepared to have the codes written down and had a really hard time finding parking
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Bobby at the front desk was amazing. He helped me out with a few things and it was no trouble for him. A really lovely man.
- Matthew Tohatsu (10/5): - The security, comfortability, and good customer service.
Thank you for good service 🙏
- Melissa (10/5): Great Find - This was in an excellent location in San Diego! Right outside the Gas Lamp District and with walking distance of many others.
The building is an old refinished building with tons of charm and a great outdoor roof space.
We really enjoyed our stay!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Room 101- decent for the price - We stayed Friday night - Tuesday morning. We were in room 101. Room was nice, clean, and spacious. Access was straight forward and check in was simple. The first 2 days, I do not know whether the water heater had issues but the shower was cold and we got hot water for barely 5-10 minutes. The days after we were able to have a nice hot shower though. Soaps and lotions are included. Location is downtown and that does come with noise typical of the city (cars and people walking on the street), but it is very central with a grocery store nearby and everything 15 minutes away. We were so tired from sight seeing we didn’t have trouble sleeping. It was pretty light though and wish they had blackout curtains. We tried the fire pits the 2nd night and they did not work. We called support and no one could help since they did not have support on site that specific day, which was a bummer. There is a central room with a microwave, hot and cold water dispenser, and a coffee maker, which is convenient. Note there was no fridges so keep that in mind if you are keeping any sort of food. As far as parking, there are garages that are about a 5 min. walk, if that, as well as street parking. We did one night in the garage through SpotHero and one night on the street right outside the hotel- no issues on either.
- Kyle (6/5): Great Location, Really Small Room - The location is wonderful. Close to bars, restaurants, convenience stores, and the trolley system. The hotel itself is clean and the staff were great. Unfortunately, the room was the smallest hotel room I’ve ever had. Didn’t think they could make one this small. Also, there is no storage space. No drawers, dressers, shelves, etc. Can’t even slide something under the bed. Either upgrade to a larger room or make this a one night stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Spartan but adequate, clean
- Robert (10/5): Great Sevice - The assistance provided by the onsite staff was exceptional.
- Roberto Vladimir (10/5): - Everything
- MaLourdes (6/5): - Lobby and room were beautiful, very clean and well maintained. I liked the decor, location is excellent. My room was 104 and barely fit one person. Bed was very comfortable. Room needs a rod for clothes and shelves for toiletries and a drop down desk and stool or chair.
- Sourav (8/5): - Value for money
- Elizabeth (6/5): - Room was great, enjoyed the contactless experience. The area around the hotel has all the advantages/disadvantages of a city - excellent food options, shopping, easy access to transportation - all great. Like any city, a little noisy, crowded, and dirty. Would recommend and would stay again.
- Ian (2/5): - No front desk staff until 1pm. It says there is a virtual front desk but that’s. It much use if you need help on the property. Stay elsewhere.
- Dustin (8/5): - This property suited my needs. The facility and area were clean and safe. The actual room was a little smaller than anticipated, specifically the bathroom/shower room. That said, it would not deter me from staying again.
Walking to the Conference Center was a respectable 15 min walk.
Probably the only thing I desired that wasn't available was an in-room mini fridge.
- Flyer305540 (4/5): Next level noisy - As others have said this place is beyond loud. I live in a city so I am accustomed to noise but this was next level. My room was on a freeway off-ramp. Bed wasn’t comfortable and blinds don’t keep the light out so my room was super bright. I left a night early because I couldn’t sleep. It is also not a good neighborhood if you want to enjoy San Diego. It’s gaslamp adjacent but pretty ugly with not a lot around the hotel. If the hotel wants to keep folks they will need to put in new windows that provide some kind of better insulation from noise. The pluses were that the rooms are cute, nice roof deck if weather is good, staff were nice and check in and room codes all worked well. But those things just don’t outweigh the cons.
- Luis (10/5): - The room was too small, but great service!
- Sheila (6/5): - Frist night smelled of Marijuana, rooms are small not for family. Great building interior. Staff pleasant, parking sucks downtown San Diego. Bed waa nice, shower didn't work.
- Paul (10/5): - Great location. Very clean and comfortable. Street noise was loud, but we were prepared for that thanks to other reviews. Would stay here again.
- martin (4/5): - It was near some places to eat but besides that lots of homeless and tweakers near by i didn’t like that the bathroom door didn’t close completely nor did i like the shower not having a closing door very small rooms and the bed was very loud no where to put clothes and wish they had a mini fridge
- nikolem309 (8/5): Very Cool - People noting that the location is ridiculously loud are being real, the walls are paper thin, but I was able to sleep with my noise canceling headphones just fine. It’s really not the hotel’s fault that the city is experiencing a homelessness crisis, so if that reality bugs you then maybe book something less urban or don’t hang around downtown at all. Its everywhere. The extended queen suite was perfect for me and my partner and I really appreciated not having to interact with a human to check in. I guess my only complaint is that the bed was a bit too firm and the shower drained super slow, which was concerning.
- Rosalina (8/5): - Staff was amazing however the room was super small barely any walking room.
- GABI (10/5): - AMAZING property, we loved every moment of it. There was nothing we could complain about. The only thing we thought we’d mention, was the water from the shower at time leaked to the living room if we took back to back showers. Besides that, everything was great.
- Daniel (10/5): Great stay! - Items in the common area were well organized and convenient!
- Dustin (10/5): - No
- Alfred (8/5): - Hospitallity
- michellemaa (2/5): Nonstop noise - Yes, agreed, all the street noise is there. The worst part is all the pipes. Every minute or so, when someone uses the pipes, the loudest pipe groan reverberates through the hotel. I hope this is a recent development as I don’t see this documented anywhere. No one to call as it is after normal operating hours and there is no staff on site anymore. I never write reviews and felt compelled to do so.
- Mathew (10/5): - It was a good experience.
- Mohammad (2/5): - Noisy and old apartment just make hotel. No separate shower, shower water make whole bathrooms. Totally uncomfortable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Forced adoption of technology grrr - The hotel was great. Self check in was great with keypads.
However!
In order to get the codes for the doors you’re forced to register an account with Sonder and log in with ridiculous password requirements that I’ll never ever remember in order to get to codes for the doors.
For anyone who despises and resents never-ending forced adoption of apps/website registration like I do, maybe pick a regular hotel.
- Modest (4/5): - Room was clean and big. My room was next to a busy street and it was very difficult for to sleep because of cars noise. I felt unsafe because of homeless people that was just next front entrance day and night.
- Reece (10/5): - This hotel will be my go-to in San Diego—excellent value for the location. The staff was friendly, and it was convenient being near Orange Theory for a good workout. The room was small but comfortable, and perfect for our stay, especially after a night out in the Gaslamp Area.
- Jose (10/5): - Parking the only issue and got a parking ticket aswell with money in the meter 😔
- Leslie (10/5): - Beautiful and safe!
- Christopher (10/5): - Nice place
- Verified traveler (10/5): quick comfort <3 - actually super cute modern style hotel in the center of san diego! if you’re looking to stay somewhere fairly priced, especially for an event (concert for ex) everything’s pretty much in walking distance or cheap ubers! It is small so definitely something for couples or if you’re going alone for business or self-discovery! I would say the only downside is being next to busy streets so traffic can get loud but if you’re a deep sleeper, like me, it won’t bother you (they also supply white a noise machine and ear plugs to help!)
- Sharda (6/5): - The property is well managed and it looks great, my only issue was the room was a lot smaller than it looks in the online photos. No chairs in the room either
- Gary R. (6/5): - The ac smelled funny and it smelled like urine outside. Nice building and room but just needs some more attention and people might help.
- Dani (8/5): - Hotel was really cozy and nice. It is on the smaller side, and not very spacious. Really recommend this hotel!
- jennifer (10/5): - Perfect location and lovely staff! Room was fine and bathroom was beautiful updated! Will definitely stay again!
- Anita (10/5): - Great place but the neighborhood went down hill!
- Kyle (6/5): - If you stay here ask for a room away from the road or don’t stay here at all. The room I had was too loud to sleep in due to being right by a noisy intersection, even with earplugs and sound machine. With $200 Bose active noise cancellation on top of the other two, I could sleep but they’re not the most comfortable.
- Max (10/5): - Amazing hotel with lovely staff and beautiful rooms right in the centre of town!
- Maria (10/5): - 5 minute walk to Petco park. 7 minute walk to Gaslamp. So much more!!!!! Train was 6 minutes away. Everything was super close!!!!!
- Jessica (10/5): - Spent 1 night to attend a concert at Petco Park, convenient, close enough to walk. The property was neat and clean, staff was friendly and welcoming. We parked a few blocks away in a secured lot, $12.00 for 24 hours worked for us., The room we rented was very small but the price, location and super comfortable bed made for a great stay.. we would definitely stay again!
- David (10/5): Suggested Addition of Drinking Water - The room was clean and well maintained.
I would suggest that provisions are made for bottled water to be included in the room cost and some kind of cup. The absence of either made me lean over the sink and drink from the tap.
- Benito (10/5): - Quite comfy and close to a local speakeasy. Would definitely stay again.
- Jenifer (10/5): - Very clean and quiet. The balcony is adorable. Walking distance to everything.
- Kamron (10/5): - Very good
- Jose (10/5): - The building and rooms are very nicely decorated and clean, the neighborhood is a little sketchy at night
