Guest Reviews
- Keith (10/5): - Lovely cottage. Friendly owners.
- Alan (7/5): worked well for the one night - found stairs difficult. Also feel that it is not suitable at all for ayone with movement difficulties or children.
- Julie (9/5): Great stay, good value - Lovely shower and comfy bed, warm, good range of kitchen facilities and nice decor in a character property. Good communication from Rob, very accommodating. No fresh milk, outer door step difficult to see in the dark (needs a white line edging), downstairs toilet, steep steps to bedrooms
- Veena (10/5): Charming cottage in a lovely village - The cottage is adorable and was perfect for our little getaway. The host Rob was very responsive and helpful with any questions we had. It was really warm and cosy and I'd definitely consider returning here in the future.
- Sasha (10/5): Cosy, quirky cottage - Cosy, quirky cottage. Very clean. Great facilities. Comfy bed. Log burner. Christmas lights Nothing
- Katie (8/5): -
- Charlene (10/5): - Peaceful Very cold in the morning
- Matt (10/5): Fantastic cosy cottage in a great location. Really well equipped kitchen and a cosy lounge with a decent TV and wifi. Sl - Great location for exploring and a really cosy little cottage. Nice village and everything we needed was in the cottage and just perfect for us.
- susan (4/5): Grime worth a grumble - Nothing Shabby from outside. Washing machine with washing going. Tumble dryer on with a strap round it. Grill didn’t get hot for ages. Every draw had towels in them or odd toot apart from a dark hole in bedroom corner. Toilet under seat dirty. Dust and grime around toilet and under sink. Toilet taps hard to turn on, sink in shower room plug would not hold water. Stairs were almost like a ladder and you had to walk through double room into the 2 single bed room with a curtain in the doorway (not good for friends) or older family that may have to visit toilet in the night which was downstairs. So my dad slept downstairs. The fridge wouldn’t stay open as it was tilting backwards. In the kitchen 2 x double cupboards were FULL of cleaning products and a squeezy bottle of bleach mixed with water in-front of Tv for an apparently £200 rug if you spilt anything on it. Not what you need when you rent somewhere for 2 nights.
- Darren (8/5): -
- Emma (10/5): - It was very cosy and had everything that was needed for a night away.
- Gabriella (10/5): -
- andy (7/5): - had everything you would need for a short stay, local chippy was outstanding heating was rationed to about 2hrs in the morning,,,very noisy rd in the morning from 6am,dont expect a lay in.
- Richard (10/5): -
- tracy (1/5): Horrible - nothing stairs dangerous not quirky like stated
dog smell over powering
dog hairs on bedding and pillows
- paula (10/5): Lovely stay in a lovely cottage - We loved the little added extras, the fresh milk, coffee etc. The cottage is lovely and the location is perfect for travelling through Norfolk. The shower is amazing by the way!!! I didn't want to get out
- Björk (9/5): Cozy cottage - Fully equipped with everything you might possibly need, good beds and kitchen, comfy sofa. Cute, quirky cottage. No problems, the road was busier than expected, but not a problem.
- Charles (8/5): -
- Jamie (9/5): -
- Dawn (10/5): Visiting family friends and just chilling out with our friends and family - We have stayed there before, maybe about four years ago and it was really good. I have a sister that lives nearby and we have friends that livehere too the property is near everywhere you need to go. We had a wonderful weekend. We charge our batteries.
- Katherine (9/5): Superb - Lovely old cosy cottage
- Marli (4/5): Disappointing -
- Alan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Rockdoc62 (6/5): Pleasant - Indoor facilities were good and generally comfortable. Need to paint the fence and door and fix broken slabs. Patio area was surrounded by weeds. Two large dog turds sat in the middle. Not really up to standard for a rental
- Linda (8/5): Good location - The owner Rob is extremely pleasant and helpful. The cottage was easy to access with the key safe. The location was great for Diss and Bury St Edmunds. The village was lovely with a nice grocery shop and fish and chip shop. The local pub was friendly too. The kitchen in the cottage was well fitted and the shower was good. The description did not mention that there were steep stairs and that the toilet was downstairs. My 81 year old friend needed to get up several times during the night and struggled with the stairs. She ended up sleeping downstairs the last few nights which she said was not as comfortable as the bed. The whole property could do with a little makeover as it has a lot of potential. The parking is listed as on site but it is not. You have to park on the road but that was not too much of a problem.
- Pam (10/5): Great location , enjoying history - Great to be in such an old house All great, bathroom could have been cleaner. But no problem
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional - its a lovely cosy cottage with everything you need in .it had short ceilngs which is great has i am only 5ft 2
.robert got intouch with people who does village history and ancsentery stuff .which was very helpful
nice place quiet village to get away From the Big town and look around the subrounding villages nothing neagtive to say other than if you need to go to the loo at night its downstairs
- Brown (9/5): Myrtle Cottage - Quirky and full of character. Lovely period cottage. Small and awkward to use staircase to first floor. I wonder if an additional barrier should be fitted at the top to stop people accidentally falling down it from the first floor.
- Maggie (5/5): Quirky property but with an inaccurate description. - Bags of character.Easy to reach Diss for an event we attended.Clean and tidy.Living area quite spacious. Description for cottage stated on site parking. There was none. We had to park on the road near to a junction. It was not made clear on description that the second bedroom was accessed through the first bedroom and there was no door between the rooms just a make shift curtain. The stairs are very steep and whilst this was not a problem for us it could be for other users and this info is not in the description details.
- Mark (9/5): Would stay again . - Suited me for a short work stay , quirky stairs to bedroom . Only suitable for able body people . All facilities good.
- Claire (9/5): Superb - Really cute and comfortable cottage.
- Sally (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wayne (8/5): Very good -
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (10/5): Really nice, will definitely book again if we're in the area. - Location was nice and quiet. The cottage was incredible, felt like I had stepped into another world with the way the house has been constructed from the living room upstairs. Was really nice. Literally the only 2 things that I could possibly pick with the place are:
- Doorway to the stairs is quite low - bit awkward for me as I'm 6 foot! But nothing to be done there
- The key lockbox was a tiny bit awkward. I dropped the key trying to put it in. A small magnet inside to hold it to the back when putting it back would be a nice touch.
- Claire (10/5): Quirky comfort - A wonderfully quirky cottage, but with everything you need: a well-equipped kitchen; some of the comfiest beds I've slept in; big sofas for lounging on and a landlord who's quick to reply to questions. Ideal for a family - bedrooms are adjoining. Thoroughly recommended.
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - Cosy with a fantastic fireplace. N/A
- Gee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Becky (10/5): Cosy home from home - We loved the cosy and quirky character of the cottage. It was well laid out, with everything you might need for your stay. The bedding and the soft furnishings were all lovely quality and the whole cottage was spotlessly clean. It was like a home from home. Not a criticism but some more information on the history of the house would be great.
- Eloise (10/5): Beautiful stay in an adorable, cozy cottage! - It was gorgeous inside, the pictures don’t do it justice! The parking was hard to figure out when we arrived as it was dark, we ended up parking in front of a gate and the neighbours left a bold note. We did message the owners about parking and they responded super quick but booking.com didn’t notify me they did! We were able to move in the morning and was fine from then on.
- Jessica (7/5): Good -
- Robert (6/5): Pleasant - It was fine, the door to the Bedrooms was very low i banged my head. The two bedrooms are not private as you have to pass through one to get to the other. These are separated by a think curtain so not suitable for unrelated guests. The low door to the stairs
- Gareth (9/5): Superb - Lovely quirky little cottage Nothing
- Sue (10/5): Exceptional - Could not have breakfast as there was no milk so couldn't even have a cup of tea or coffee
- Denise (5/5): It was a nice comfortable stay for the weekend - The downstairs area was nice, comfortable and had ample space for a family The upstairs area wasn't that comfortable for a family. We had to be very careful not to hit our heads up & down the stairs. The beds were comfortable but there wasn't a door but there was a curtain for privacy. I wouldn't recommended for anyone over 5'3 . I'm 5'4 and I had to be careful. The rest of the family were much taller.
- Tim (9/5): Superb -
- Tony (8/5): Very good -
- Carole (6/5): - Unfortunately when we arrived someone was in the property, they had arrived 1 week early but had call owner and been given the code to get in.
After 9 hours of travelling not ideal, once they had seen the mistake they left.
- Malcolm (10/5): - This place is outstanding. It’s a lovely location in a quiet village a few minutes walk away to the shop and pub and within minutes your in the countryside exploring the WWII history on offer.
It’s very quiet and safe and free parking right outside the door. The cottage is very nice and is a mixture of modern bits mixed with old but has a very well stocked kitchen, a large comfy living area, a down stairs bathroom and toilet and two upstairs bedrooms. I will definitely be back.
- Jeni (7/5): Good - It was a cute little cottage and perfect for a few days stay. The staircase would have been difficult for anyone with accessibility issues and definitely not for children.
There was no privacy between the bedrooms and I don’t think that was set out in the details.
- Roy (8/5): Very good -
- Jodie (10/5): Clean, comfortable, well equipped and oh so cozy ! - Clean, comfortable, well equipped and oh so cozy. Lovely quiet village and a very well stocked mini mart at the end of the road as well as a chippy (chippy sadly not open Sundays and Mondays though) We loved the log fire but wood was not provided and was £13 a bag at the garage which ended up costing a fair bit as the heating would not work.
Lots of cozy blankets provided though
- Sara (6/5): quirky cottage that fit what I needed for a 2 night stay for work - location for what i needed was good and shower excellent front door doesn't feel secure, poor quality curtains and bedding in bedrooms
- Kerry (8/5): Lovely quaint cottage, ideal location for where we needed to be. - Loved the fact there was condiments in the kitchen and the extra surprise of milk/tea/sugar and even ice cream (although we didnt eat any!) ha ha
Lovely quaint cottage. Looked a little run down, especially on the outside - first impressions count!
Staircase was tricky as I only had a hip replacement 8 weeks ago so I struggled getting up and down the stairs.
- Dionne (5/5): Passable - Location is good for me .. the price is ok .. the owner is easy to get hold of and on previous visits has been very helpful It grieves me to say but the place was not very clean .. we wiped the kitchen over and the wipes were dirty .. there was food on some of the plates and cutlery which I suppose I would wash anyway .. fridge and freezer needed a freshen up .. although we didn’t have to we hand washed the washing up as the dishwasher was actually closed very quickly as the smell was horrendous.. washing left in washing machine which on a couple of previous occasions I’ve got out and dried and folded up but was not too happy at this stage to be honest so left it .. the bed duvets have had the life washed out of them and are really not very nice I bought my own duvet etc as I have mentioned this in previous reviews and it hasn’t changed … the outside area could be so lovely but it’s a trip hazard at best and furniture bbq dirty and bird droppings all over … such an awful shame as it’s a lovely little co
- Morgi76 (8/5): Very good -
- David (9/5): One of the Nicest places Ive stayed!!! - It's a beautiful and cosy place to be. Locating it was pretty easy. Facilities were just brilliant. Nice and clean. Lots of cutlery and pots and pans.
Check in was so so easy. And getting in was perfect as well. Hosts made you feel so welcome.
Living room was fantastic and comfortable and so cosy. You have lots of freedom as well. It's a nice quiet area. Overall this really is a brilliant property Parking was lacking. Doesn't have a driveway but there was parking on the main road so not to bad. The shower and bathroom were right at the back of the building. Needing a toilet at night is a trek. I'd also add the stairs up to the bedroom were thin and steep. That is to do with the age of the property.
The upstairs has the twin room and the double bed. All that separates it is a wall and a curtain. It didn't feel like you had your own room. If you need the loo you have to go through one bedroom area to go past it.
- james (10/5): - Great stay , lovely little cottage
- Julie (1/5): We will not be returning. - The fireplace in living room. Lovely quaint cottage. Bed comfortable. First impressions terrible, the outside spaces overgrown with weeds, building materials and pathways uneven and broken. The cooker is so dirty we did not use it. Shower screen filthy. The whole place needs a deep clean.
- Hannah (8/5): Nice area and really nice house to stay in. - Helpful comments left by owner. Could have been a bit more clean
- Jodie (10/5): Lovely little cottage. Warm and cozy in front of the fireplace - Cozy and well equipped. Beautiful location Nothing
- Jennie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ron (7/5): Heating packed up just after we arrived, but the owner came out promptly and replaced the gas bottle - Nice, quirky cottage in a quiet location
- Verity (10/5): The cutest little cottage - Beautiful cute little place Nothing
- Hayley (10/5): Excellent - Loved it so cozy and relaxing
- Karen (1/5): We didn’t stay as it was disgusting I have asked for my money back and have been offered £25 which is unacceptable consi - This cottage was awful it was dirty the towels were on arrival soaking wet the cooker fridge freezer microwave dirty the shower screen filthy the bedding wasn’t ironed full of creases I couldn’t stay we had to find somewhere else I didn’t like anything due to it being dirty
- Mcpherson (10/5): Exceptional - When we arrived at the property it was late as we had been to the local pantomime during the day . The owners had left the outside and inside Christmas lights on and the radio playing, a lovely touch that was much appreciated I wish I'd known earlier regarding the steepness of the staircase , this was a concern to my elderly friend
- Dionne (8/5): Quaint quirky comftable cottage in lovely village near to airport ,Norwich and the coast , great base to stay - Good location .. very quaint .. have stayed before and will stay again as has parking on the street outside all mod cons dishwasher fridge oven and hob
Woodburner
Nice touch providing Xmas trees and arrangements and candles …
The owner was very responsive when phoned as we had a power cut and was already sitting outside when we decided to alert him as he had had a notification already Very steep and awkward staircase although in keeping with the quaint and quirkiness of the property but not disabled friendly
The bedding and some of the soft furnishings could. benefit from updating although they are serviceable the ones provided and this wouldn’t stop me from rebooking this property again
I did bring my own bedding this time but that was my preference
Traffic noise for a few hours on weekday mornings rush hour time
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Anita (8/5): Nice quirky cottage - Fire Stair case
- Andrew (2/5): Only £100, but wouldn’t recommend to worst enemy - Leaving it at 8AM Cold, very noisy, couldnt open or close door, kettle totally clogged with limescale upstairs is made for very small agile people but so quirky hard to criticise uncomfortable bed…Moldy shower
- Matthew (9/5): Superb -
- Justin (8/5): LOvely - There was a double booking. But we worked it out with Rob and the other 2. The pub wasn't doing food.
- Dawn (10/5): Cosy cottage - Beautiful cosy cottage in a lovely village, very comfy for 2 friends and their dogs, loved the log burner!
- William (10/5): Exceptional - You might want to leave flyers, and maybe even advertise a discount, at the 100th BG Museum, which is why we were there.
- Matthew (3/5): Great communication won’t be returning - Location Dirty and dusty and felt like it was someone’s home, downstairs bathroom
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Don (7/5): Good - Very quaint No wardrobe space
- Claire (8/5): Very good -
- Annette (6/5): Great village but cottage needs TLC - Location great The property could do with a spring clean. The garden could be lovely but not very inviting patio chairs and table dirty garden had been strimmned but loose cuttings left. We took our grandson and not great for him to play. Washing left in washer and crumpled sheets in drawers in second bedroom
- Michelle (6/5): Lovely cottage but not clean - Character cottage - easy access Dropped my earring under the bed- not be cleaned for years- so much dust underneath. Fridge wasn’t clean. Washing machine left on with washing in it. Stairs are very steep, wouldn’t advise for the elderly.
- Tracy (8/5): Lovely Stay - I loved the location. It was close to the track. Had enough shops and restaurants nearby to be satisfied. It was a bit annoying for my older sons to keep ducking down everywhere.
- Katrina (6/5): Was ok for a night - Was well equipped with everything you would need Toilet seat was broken , garden was a mess & overgrown , plant pots had cigarette butts in instead of flowers , very tired looking property
- Alastair (4/5): We left after one night. Say no more. -
- Anonymous (7/5): Convenient to our family - Convenient to our destination for family Things that weren’t advertised on house details.
Not suitable for people with mobility issues. One had to sleep on a sofa bed as couldn’t assess bedroom
Outside of property overgrown with weeds
- Raymen (9/5): Short relaxing stay.lovely village and walks. - I made a mistake of writing the wrong key safe number down…I was not able to contact the owner due to not having wifi connection or being able to contact number given.anyway the young guy who works in the local shop was so helpful in helping me retrieve the right keysafe number usin his wifi…my mistake totally Everything was suitable for our stay.nothing to complain about.
- Mai (7/5): Nice escape for a quiet night away with the comforts of home. - It’s charm as a character property, it’s history, it’s location in the village and being close to Bungay.
The hidden stairs, the fireplace, a comfy sofa. Our cosy single beds.
Bird song in the garden.
Dog friendly.
Rob was easy to communicate with. Easy to check in. Plus basics such as bread, Milk, Loo Roll provided. Furnishing weren’t in keeping with the cottage and it appeared rather neglected, including what could be a divine garden.
Our friends were unimpressed with the set up of the bedrooms and lack of privacy. Toilet/bathroom being downstairs.
Cupboards/drawers were full of DIY muddle.
Dead bugs inside the window frames.
Overpowering Air Freshener.
Grubby fridge.
No fire wood.
Needs ❤️ and a good spring clean!!!
- Leigh (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (9/5): Superb - Great cosy cottage nice location ideal for exploring. I'm very tall and hit my head. Number of times lol 😂
- Martin (10/5): very pleased and already thinking of booking again. - A quirky little cottage with everything needed to feel right at home.
- Zoe (9/5): Superb -
- Helen (8/5): Very good - Cottage is Well laid out just don't forget to bendy our head as its a period cottage with low doorway s pub across road is friendly the quiz was good o. Sunday night
- Victoria (8/5): Lovely stay in characterful cottage in the pretty village of Dickleburgh - Cute cottage full of character, comfy bed, well equipped kitchen. Great location. No way to play the vinyl as the connecter was missing, slightly dirty sink near the WC
- Lee (10/5): Cottage stay - Lovely quirky cottage.
Everything you need for great stay.
Lovely and warm, didnt need to light log burner but we did anyway for effect.
Lovely hot shower.
Free WiFi Not a dislike, but it is an old cottage so don't expect 5 🌟
It all adds to the charm.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sinead (10/5): excellent communication from booking to start of stay. lovely set up and very well equipped - lovely set up nothing
- Keely (9/5): Loved it. Thanks - quaint nice decor bit cold. shower lovely and hot but needs an update. Dishwasher not great on washing
- Lizzy (9/5): A lovely quiet retreat for a few days. Will be looking to visit again. - Log fire - very cosy, especially for a short break in early December. Decorated for the Christmas season. Easy communication with the host. Great location - quiet, peaceful but close enough to main routes. One of my dogs managed to get out under the gate. Some chicken wire would solve the problem. An information folder would really help including how to leave the property at the end of a stay e.g. used towels on the floor, strip beds and put bed linen in washing machine etc.
- Vicki (9/5): Lovely stay in a cosy cottage and Rob was very helpful :-) We would definately stay here again -
