Guest Reviews
- Parker (10/5): We enjoyed how welcoming everyone was with our stay. - In a nice remote spot for exploring, diving and of course watching the best sunsets. The only thing it a little far away but in this zone you can find more local food and be away from the tourists.
Nada
- gabriele (10/5): Ottimo. Thanks Sunset hotel!! - The Sunset Hotel in San Andres and the family who runs it (all of whom speak English) truly deserve an excellent rating. Located in a very quiet spot, far from the hustle and bustle of the city center, yet overlooking one of the island's most beautiful marine areas, it's a great place to rest, relax, snorkel, or participate in the diving activities offered and organized by the hotel's specialized staff. We arrived at the hotel at 11:00 AM, and even though check-in was scheduled for 3:00 PM, they still made our room available to us right away. All the staff are extremely kind and available to offer suggestions and assistance. The owner, on the day of our arrival, spent a good hour chatting with us to understand what we wanted to do and then direct us in the best possible way. He booked a scooter for us from a supplier he knew, personally verifying that the documents were in order and arranging delivery and return procedures. The restaurant is very simple but excellent quality and affordable, and the cook is very courteous and helpful. Breakfast was also good and satisfying. Certainly a point of reference on the island that should be taken as an example by the many other operators and administrators who prefer to fleece tourists and leave a lot of rubbish on the streets. Thanks again to the Sunset Hotel in San Andres, definitely recommended. The island isn't as well-maintained as it deserves. There's a lot of garbage in the streets and near the most touristy spots. The only area that's spared is the area immediately surrounding the hotel.
- Leandro Higuita (10/5): - - La comida deliciosa, buena porción y a buenos precios.

- Bruno (9/5): Super, leider schlechte Anbindung an OeV - Freundliches Personal, ruhig, direkt am Strand Schlechte Anbindung an OeV
- Arroyave (10/5): - Breakfast was lovely! Dinner availble and good price... lovely snorkeling or scuba spot. This is a Family run Hotel, who have roots in San Andres and Providence so was such a pleasure to chat with them... muy amables!! Also 15m walk to Booby Beach Club ⛱️ Our shower was slightly overspilling to the toilet so no10 when taking g showers... forgot to tell, reception after... but lovely and quiet sleep

- Laura (8/5): Very relaxing stay with amazing hosts at a quiet and serene location - Amazing staff, lovely quiet setting. Very relaxing. A bit removed from anywhere else. Renting a scooter helps nullify this

- Hallisson (10/5): - Our recent stay was an absolute delight from start to finish. This hotel isn't just a place to sleep; it's a truly welcoming retreat. The accommodations were wonderful, but what made it exceptional was the owner's genuine kindness and attention to detail. They went above and beyond to ensure we felt at home and had everything we needed.
Without a doubt, this was the best hotel experience we have ever had. We have already started planning our next trip and will most certainly be returning.

- Freitas (8/5): muito boa - Recepção muito boa, sempre muito solicitos. Local do outro lado do centro da ilha.
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Danielle (8/5): Very good -
- Rodrigo (10/5): - Sensacional!
- Andrea (9/5): Superb -
- Fayika (3/5): Poor -
- Daniel (10/5): - Family run business
Bi lingual
- Jamie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Edward (9/5): Superb - Staff was very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful, from late night bottles of water to keeping the restaurant open late upon arrival! They also had great advice for the surrounding area. There is a diving school attached to the hotel, which would make for an awesome combo-trip! I also stayed in the northern « city » part of the island, and much preferred my time here, with beautiful waters to swim in right across the street and lots of rugged nature all around. The rooms are spacious with very high ceilings, hot water shows and very clean, with great AC. Would stay here again on my next trip to San Andres! I’m on the taller side (~1.88m) and the beds were slightly short for me, since the foot area has an edge. Otherwise, great!
- Daniel (7/5): Good - Peaceful location in the south of the island
Friendly staff
Big room
Nice Breakfast It would be important to have a bottle of water everyday in the room since there is no drinkable tap water. As for now, guests needs to pay for it at the reception.
- Pavel (5/5): Passable -
- Jon (8/5): Great place to getaway! - The staff was very welcoming and we enjoyed the
food and service provided. If you like seclusion and getting away then this is the place for you! I thought during booking it was across from the
beach, but it was across from the sea. It was about 30 minutes to the downtown area for the main beach.
- Jochen (9/5): Good hotel at an excellent snorkeling spot at the quiet west side of the island - Situated at a quiet spot along the west side of Isla San Andres, with a swim ladder and a great snorkeling spot right next door across the street. Good restaurant and friendly staff included. Wonderful views. Spacious room with good hot shower. Be aware taxis from the airport charge 60000 pesos, while you can take the safe and good local bus for only 4000 pesos per person.
- Brittany (10/5): Amazing, clean, and relaxing stay with everything you need! - The hotel is in the south end of the island and very chill if you want to relax instead of partying. it’s right across for the ocean with a great restaurant, pool, dive school, and amazing staff! The beds were a bit hard, but after being in the sun all day it didn’t matter lol you always sleep well in San Andres
- Omunevar (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (8/5): Very good - Very friendly family run hotel. Staff very accommodating. Its in a much more peaceful part of the island away from the crowds on the eastern side, but the local bus runs right past the door every 30 mins so getting around is easy. Snorkelling right across the road in some of the clearest water I've seen. We were never really inconvenienced by the pool being used by the the dive school as they are out most of the day. Prices for food/drink very reasonable. Some parts look in need of a bit of TLC but after the ravages of Covid I thnk that can be forgiven.
- Leigh (10/5): Best family run hotel on San Andes - We loved the tranquil family run hotel. Frankly, we think it is the best place to be on the island. It is a bus ride away from the craziness of the town center. The food was delicious, the location was very pretty and tranquil, the snorkeling across the street was sweet, pool was refreshing, but most of all was the understanding of tourists needs by the staff and family! We stayed 5 nights and will remember the daily interactions with the family and thoughtfully hand picked staff. Cheers and heaps of thanks to Lindsay, Mama Marley, Gabriel (el guapo) , Usiris and Zoila and all!
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Javier (9/5): Superb - Good place, nice attention, nice staff, good food. Recomended.
- Juha (10/5): A wondeful family run hotel, with excellent food and very friendly service. - Relaxed and friendly atmosphere, excellent food, and friendly service. The location was perfect for Scuba, exploring the island by walking, cycling and with a “buggy” . The family running the place have kept it in very good condition. They also helped us to sort out any problems.
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Great location away from the busier East Coast and town and buses to get around the island are regular outside the door. It was great to be able to walk 20m and jump in the Caribbean with noone around. Gabriel was an excellent host! Thanks again mate. Soundproofing of rooms need to be done. It's an easy fix, give me a shout Gabriel and I'll send u a drawing , its what I do!
- Geowbailey (9/5): Superb - The staff was always prompt friendly and helpful. The sliding door took a little piddling but it worked fine after that. There was no hair dryer or hot pot for coffee but on the upside the balcony looked right over the Caribbean and the room was clean and comfortable
- Martha (10/5): From the beginning we felt good, the welcome was great. the place is beautiful a tropical environment the children enjoy - the location is perfect.
- Sandra (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel exceeded my expectations. It was wonderfully quiet there, with a beautiful view of the sea right across the street. The sunsets are outstanding.
The homecooked food was amazing and was available throughout the day until 8pm. My favourite was the salad with fried fish, you should absolutely try it.
A dive shop was right on sight too and I managed to get my advanced certificate in 2 days, they were very flexible and accommodating as well.
Amazing reef quality on dive sights right by the hotel. I was very pleased to have chosen Sunset hotel to finish off my trip to Colombia. Nada :)
- Christophe (10/5): - Super hotel in the quiet part of the island!
- Andrew (8/5): - Gabriel and Lindsey who run the property fir the family are lovely people. Everybody who works at Hotel Sunset is warm and caring, from Soyla, who cooks your delicious food every day to our sweet and caring housekeepers. These are just the warmest people. A bit more hot water would be great and a bit more clarity about what is included in a meal or is extra (like after dinner coffee) would be helpful, but these are minor issues. This is a quiet, beautiful spot with a lovely pool and across from excellent scuba and snorkling waters. Also a great scuba school right on site. An excellent choice overall.
- Dario (10/5): - Very good stay
- Martin (10/5): - Really nice hotel, our room was clean, comfortable and really pleasant. The one minor problem we had was fixed within about 15 minutes so really can't complain. The breakfast was excellent, lunch and other meals also. And the staff will help you in any way they can. Couldn't recommend highly enough. Many thanks, I have a feeling we'll be back!
- Michael (10/5): Thanks for the relaxing stay - everything was exactly as expected, remote, quite, nice, pool and the beach across the street.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good service, very friendly staff, they help you a lot with information about the island and services, the only thing I don't like very much is the distance to the city center, but everything else is excellent !!!
- John (10/5): Amazing family business Hotel 10/10 Best in Colomb - This is is a hotel which reviews are totally justified amazing family run hotel. Service was 10/10 The warmest welcome we have ever received.
Great diving school on site, Just book you won’t be disappointed
- Kenneth Gerard (10/5): - This little resort was the perfect place for us to stay in San Andres. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the layout was perfect and the location and view of the ocean was fantastic. (and a great value!!) The restaurant is very good with breakfast included, and the dive shop (Sharky's) is right on site.
Now, the best part is the staff.. Sunset Hotel (and the dive shop) is a family run hotel (literally) It's like staying at your favorite Auntie's house with your favorite cousins. You are a part of the family and everyone is there to genuinely help you have a great time. English is widely spoken as the family members had lived in the US.
The resort is truly located where you want be away from the chaos of the downtown. The staff can arrange a motorbike or 4-wheel vehicle for you to rent (and be delivered) so you can explore the island. You can SCUBA dive or snorkel right across the street in crystal clear water.
We could not imagine staying anywhere else then Hotel Sunset and will be back soon. A big thanks from Shiela and Ken to our new family at Sunset for a great visit.
- Jonas (10/5): The best - Totally awesome & friendly and beautiful sunset for really 🙏👏
- Moira (10/5): Well run small hotel in quiet location - Well managed and run small hotel in the quiet west end of San Andres Island. Very helpful and provided very useful initial information on the hotel and Island. Good facilities- pool, WiFi which worked pretty well, cable TV with some English channels, Good large breakfast with different options. Across the road from the sea.
Location is excellent but also a slight detracting as a long way from any other facilities. There is a very useful bus service outside the door. However hiring a scooter or golf cart might be better. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and San Andres.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This hotel was the perfect base camp for our diving trip on San Andres. The small property is peaceful, welcoming, and beautiful. The staff was incredibly accommodating, helping us with transportation arrangements and tips on things to do on the island. The location took us away from the busy commercial area of the island and provided us with the tropical getaway we were seeking. We will definitely return. While the accommodations are quaint, they were a perfect escape. We highly recommend.
- Richard (8/5): Go there to scuba dive - One of the better properties on the island but still a bit rustic. Clean, comfortable, and well kept. Not able to get on WIFI and air conditioning took a while to take effect. Staff was great and very helpful. The walls don’t block much noise, so a couple issues with late night rowdy neighbors, which the staff handled. “Private Beach” does not mean sand. Coastline is mostly coral but the hotel has a prepared access point. Great for scuba and snorkeling and there’s lots of fish and fan coral. Nice pool is an alternative. Collocated with a dive shop. If diving is your thing, it’s about as convenient as it gets. On the far southwest corner of the island, which is scenic and quiet. The location makes some form of transport needed to get to downtown and the airport, both about a $15 taxi ride away. No trouble getting taxis and rented a four wheeler one day.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Breakfast, location away from town, specialized help getting every activity arranged, dive shop on site! It’s not fancy but it’s clean and comfortable- great AC! We will be back with friends!
- Joseph (10/5): - Nice Place. Good Service. Quiet.
- John (10/5): Excellent hotel. Amazing snorkeling and staff. - Having traveled extensively through out South America. Sunset Hotel was without doubt the best hotel I have stayed at. I came to San Andres for 3 nights for some relaxation and snorkeling before heading back to the USA. Sunset Hotel is perfect for anyone trying to relax. It is on the quiet south west corner of the island. There is world class snorkeling right outside the hotel and if you are lucky like me you practically have the whole reef to yourself. I saw great coral, an array of reef fish, moray eels and rays. The staff at the hotel could not be more friendly and accommodating. They arranged a scooter rental for me which allowed me to explore the island and head up to the main town for dinner(a scenic 20 min drive). The hotel has a pool, hot water (which I hear is rare on the island), the wifi does not work very well but this is an island issue. Food was good. Room was beautiful and bed very comfortable. Really if you are looking to relax and like snorkeling I could not recommend highly enough.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff are amazing. They are very friendly and go above and beyond to make sure your time on the island is enjoyable. The location is away from the busy part of the island and quiet which is what we wanted. The entire island is easy to get around either by taxi or if you rent a 4 wheeler mule or scooters. This is not a high end resort but it is clean and quiet and I think very good value for the price. I would stay here again without hesitation.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This family rum hotel was great all around. The meals were good. The location is quiet and perfect for relaxing. The dive shop on site makes it easy to dive from the hotel or take a boat from the dock just up the road. They also have snorkel gear. I will stay here again when I return to the island.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This property is amazing, I would stay here again in a heartbeat. I like that it is a smaller resort and run by a family who are very attentive to all your needs. If you are planning to dive it is perfect as one of the best spots on the island is across the street from the hotel. The dive staff are excellent, we had enrique
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owners were fantastic as well as every member of the staff. My girlfriend and I had an amazing time and the hotel was no exception. The food was great and to top it off the ocean is right outside the front gates of the property ( literally 150 feet from the room we were in. The only thing that wasn’t up to par was the WiFi which was iffy at best but that was out of the hands of the hotel proprietors. If you end up staying here and you need an honest/knowledgeable taxi driver, ask the front desk to set you up with Javier. You won’t be sorry on all counts!
- Alexandre (10/5): Amazing place, if you enjoy peace and silence - second time stayed at this hotel, amazing!
- William (10/5): Great quiet location for fantastic diving. - Nice hotel on quiet west side. Room was clean and adequate and air con worked fine. Even hot water! We had half board and dinner was simple but nice. Good choice for one night but wouldn’t choose for more. No other places nearby (reasonable walk) so need a scooter or reliance on busses he very 1/2 hour). Great area for diving. Used Bucanos diving center next door to south and had three great days diving with Adolpho. Didn’t try pool at Sunset...didn’t look like it had good circulation...only negative.
- august (10/5): Nice hotel, good, quiet location - For this island it is very nice and away from the center of town.
Transportation is easy
- Albert (6/5): Few Frills but good - Location is about 20min from downtown nightlife. Great if your looking to just get away in a secluded no frills hotel. Cabs charged ($25,0000-$30,000 CP) double after 10pm to take you back ($60,000 CP). During the day you can take a bus to any part of the island ($2,200 CP) but don't keep a regular schedule. You might wait 10min or 50min. When we first arrive the room was a little disappointing but it grew on use. Good breakfast served every morning. Staff were very nice and helpful. The worst part was internet, totally nonexistent in the hotel and area.
- Robert (10/5): San Andrés 2017 - It was a good relaxing trip. The Sunset Hotel is away from The hustle and bustle of city life. So I like it there. It is a plain hotel with good service.
- Celso (10/5): Excellent Hotel - We stayed 3 days at this Hotel. The staffing was extremely friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed their food as well. Can’t forget to mention it is right next to a Scuba Diving School $43 per person and we enjoyed the bottom of the Ocean for 30 mins. Overall it was a great experience!!!
- Jeffrey (8/5): San Andres is simply not my kind of island - San Andres is an extremely under developed island to be considered a resort town. You won't see the likes of Marriott or Hyatt hotels here, so their 4-Star hotels are closer to 2 by international standard. There are no fancy restaurants or major attractions around either, most things shut down after 6pm.
Pros:
This hotel is managed by super nice people. For a traveler who doesn't speak Spanish, they were able to communicate in English and made me feel at home. You definitely can't fault them for not trying. Their kitchen is adequate, there really isn't much competition especially at night.
Cons:
The room, although clean, has a moldy scent and the pillows smells like it has been slept on for quite some time. The WIFI is slow and unreliable on the best of days. Again by international standards it should be closer to 2 stars. It wasn't that cheap either. I paid less for a 4.5 star hotel in Medellin than I did here.
This hotel is situated on the South West of the island, there are no beaches here just corals. With that said you can still get a pretty good scuba or snorkeling experience right outside the hotel (they rent snorkeling gears on a per day basis).
- Andy (10/5): Quiet, Secluded hotel with everything you need - We chose the Sunset Hotel due to the great reviews and couldn't have been happier. The room was large and comfortable, the shower hot, the A/C cold. We used the complementary wi-fi with great connection. The breakfasts were great, we had French toast with fresh fruit, coffee and juice one morning and a breakfast burrito the next. Having the dive shop next door was awesome. We took lessons from a fun staff and just walked across the road and into the water for the dive. We also rented a Kawasaki mule cart to get around the island. We found it to be a better deal to go to town and find one rather than having one delivered to the hotel. I think it saved us about 80,000 pesos a day.
- Rob (10/5): Great location and great hospitality - Everything about this hotel was amazing. No complaints. It was their main goal was to make all of the guests happy and comfortable.
- Ian (10/5): Great location next to beach & several attractions - We stayed here during the first half of our trip to San Andres. The hotel was on the other side of the island catering to diving. It was the perfect setting for starting off our trip. Nearby were several key sightseeing locations and activities. While it is not a resort, it was very comfortable and suitable with great staff...so win/win.
(Aquanots, Piscinita (swimming with fish), Morgan's Cave. We rented a "mule" (offroad rhino type) that got us all over the island.
This hotel in particular exceeded our expectations! The staff was friendly and extremely helpful.
We arrived in a rainstorm but the gentleman came out and carried our bags in out of the rain. Breakfast is included, but we also had dinner with them and it was very delicious.
We stayed here for few days based on previous reviews, and were NOT disappointed. We will definitely stay again on our next trip.
Thank you Hotel Sunset!
- Jason (10/5): A truly wonderful hotel. - We had such a pleasant experience here at Hotel Sunset. The location is wonderful for those trying to experience San Andres for what it really is, a beautiful island paradise. Amazing snorkeling steps away from the hotel. We enjoyed this hotel so much more than my previous hotel in the busy city center. I will surely return to hotel sunset on my next trip to San Andres Island.
- Alexandre (10/5): Amazing hotel - Loved this part of the island and this hotel. If you are looking for a lovely, clean, quiet, refreshing place, this is the right one. I don't particularly liked the city up north and the east coast is "done" as well, so the west coast is the best place to go and stay.
Room was very clean, spacious, and the hotel-staff absolutely 5 star.
I hired a bike when I got to San Andres airport and then got to hotel by bike, the best thing I did as taxis can cost you up to 80 000 Pesos to Sunset which is located down south-west on the island (the best part of San Andres - amazing water and sunset...
I will go back here, when returning to San Andres.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean and isolated - Staff was super friendly, helpful. Isolated from the rest of the island. Kinda treacherous to swim in the ocean in front of hotel. Food at restaurant was delicious
- Mohamed (4/5): Far from everything hotel - Hotel far from everything. Extremely poor wifi connection. Got sick from food or beverage at the hotel on my last day
- Sam (10/5): Cute little hotel on the quiet side of the island - My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay here. There is a dive shop connected to the hotel which made scuba trips really easy to arrange. It was my first time scuba diving and the instructor was really great. The hotel is quiet and relaxing, away from the noise of centro. Our room, #9, was on the end so no foot traffic and it had a nice view of the ocean. The beds are a little too hard for my liking but my boyfriend didn't have a problem. The hotel is a little secluded and nothing is really in walking distance but you can get around by bike, "gulf cart" or bus... my preferred method was bike because it's cheap and sometimes you're waiting on the bus for a long time. The food at the hotel was pretty good, no complaints. We ate there often because there isn't much else around and we don't really like to adventure out at night. Lindsey, the owner, is a really nice and helpful guy. I enjoyed meeting him and would definitely stay at Sunset Hotel again.
- STEPHEN (8/5): Paradise found for swimmers, snorkellers & divers - I stayed on San Andrés island for over a month and this was far and away the best place I stayed. I would return to San Andrés island just to stay here. The rooms are clean and comfortable and a decent size including a desk and a small fridge to keep drinks and chocolates cold. In my opinion the swimming, snorkelling and diving here is the best on the island, right across the road is entry into the water via ladder or jumping off a concrete platform. Warm crystal clear deep water and a few minutes walk up the road to West Point and a dive school. The hotel operator speaks perfect English having lived in the USA for a number of years. There is also a dive shop at the hotel and the operator also speaks decent English. There is no beach but you can always sunbake beside the small pool. The restaurant food is good but the menu choices limited as are the other eating options nearby so you might want a vehicle for a few days to explore the options for dining and beaches in nearby San Luis on the other side of the island. The hotel is at the isolated southern end of the island which may not suit some but perfect for peace and quiet and it is the more beautiful area of the island
