Guest Reviews
- Suzanne (10/5): Great old-world charm hotel - We had a lovely stay. Our room was huge. The bed was comfortable. Everything about our room and bathroom was clean. Our stay came with breakfast every morning. We had our choice of about six different breakfast entrées to choose from. We had a room with a view of the lake. Our room was quiet and comfortable. We would absolutely stay here again.
- Robert (8/5): - Very tired but charming facilities. Clearly ageing and in need of some refreshing. But some will say this is part of the adventure of staying in such a historical place. Staff were excellent. The owner was visible and very pleasant to talk with. The breakfast provided with the room was excellent and the dining setting in a courtyard among huge trees was very special. This place is very laid back and inviting. If you are looking for a place with all the amenities, this is not it. Some basic items normally found in a hotel room were not there (kleenex, coffee maker, hair dryer, ironing board, etc.). But if you want to experience a piece of history in a clean, safe and friendly place, this is it.
- Roman (10/5): - This place was an amazing place to stay
- Elvia (10/5): - The food was really good. You had several options from the menu that was included in our stay.
- andrea (10/5): - A great location and service made our first visit to Ajijic memorable.
- Kerry (8/5): - The hotel has character ad the room was comfortable. The restaurant does not open until 9:30 am and closes at 5:00pm so free breakfast is misleading and you need to leave the hotel for dinner.
When I checked out at 7:00 am I had to pay cash because the desk clerk did not have access to the card reader. When I checked in they did not have my reservation from Expedia, but honored the email confirmation from Expedia. So its desk services are frustrating and inconvenient.
I would stay again because it is an interesting and arty habitation well priced and clean.
- lucia (8/5): - Nice property. Lakefront view. Trouble w toilet flushing properly, restroom needs updated. Challenges w check-in. Reservation was logged for incorrect days at hotel. Restaurant and staff were excellent. Overall good experience
- Rebeca (10/5): Lake life - I came here 20 years ago and not much has changed. Big rooms and nice free breakfast
- Benjamin (6/5): - The property is 50 years old and looks it. The rooms have been renovated and updated but are still dated. My biggest disappointments were the advertised air-conditioning and included breakfast. The AC blew cold but barely cooled the room. It was noticeably cooler than outdoors but did not cool down as much as I had expected or hoped. Despite this I was able to sleep fine.
The first course of the included two-course breakfast was toast and coffee or tea. The second course was selected from a limited menu, two fried eggs, a frittata, pancakes, and included potatoes. TBH it felt rather small. Maybe I'm spoiled by the huge breakfasts included in the places I stay in Asia.
On our last night there was a rainstorm around 1am that blew enough water into the room to cover the entire bedroom floor! The electricity went out and the battery powered emergency lights illuminated our room for the rest of the evening. Almost all of the lights and outlets were still dead when we left in the morning, but the AC continued to run after a brief outage.
The location of the hotel is a 10-minute walk away from the town square. The sidewalks are narrow and the streets a rough cobblestone that challenges even the nimblest footed able-bodied folk.
- MARITE (6/5): - Breakfast at nine, we get up at six. Second rate meals. Crabby receptionists. Horrible street to drive. No update since 1950, more or less.
- Tony (10/5): Nice - Great value for price and location.
- Maria Antonieta (10/5): - Very relaxing great location definitely id like to go back again
- Kevin (10/5): - Near the lake, nice room, great breakfast and friendly staff
- jack (8/5): - Good location. Good breakfast. Good service. Older classic mexican
- Cecilia (10/5): - Excellent hotel
- Kim (10/5): - Beautiful establishment with great staff, famiĺy owned & ran wiťh amazing history and decor.Big spacious rooms
- Nathan (8/5): - I love this hotel. Its rustic look is so kept up and cared for. The restaurant is so good!!! The view of lake is beautiful. The rooms have such wonderful beds and bedding. The only thing that keeps me from giving it a perfect score is no hair dryers in the bathrooms and you must ask from desk for the ironing board and iron. Being that I will be having to go there often, I bought a travel dryer because like I said, I love this hotel and look forward to taking my family there.
- Rhonda (10/5): - Charming and authentic feeling, Excellent restaurant with breakfast included, nice pool. Very reasonable rates.
- D656PPrandallb (10/5): A peaceful, joyful ambiance with relaxation at its best - "We'll be back" says it all. What a great hotel and location. I walked to the Malecon and the plaza each morning before breakfast. The owner and staff were very attentive, always willing to take that extra step to make everything just right. Am unsure if it is the training or the hiring, but the staff was always, always friendly and courteous with a sincere attitude of "what can I do for you?" I also had the pleasure of meeting the Owner's mother, a delightful person and accomplished artist. Most if not all the paintings located around the hotel were lovingly painted by her hand. Clean, comfortable and welcoming. This place has it all.
- Katherine (10/5): - The property is beautiful with a lovely restaurant and garden where breakfast was provided for the guests. The room was beautiful, the pool the perfect temperature to cool down and the staff just lovely and so helpful. Cannot recommend this hotel enough. It’s quaint, unique and the perfect spot to explore Ajijic.
- Kenneth (10/5): - Lovely area and garden. Rooms are sizable and well suited. Wonderful view of the lake and very close to Centro!
- Vicki (10/5): - What an enchanting place! I could never say enough good things about this property or the owners, who are exceptionally kind and generous. The food is excellent, and the building/grounds are like being in heaven. Don’t hesitate to see for yourself. I especially enjoyed the art market by the lake on Sunday. Can’t wait to go back! ❤️
- curtis (10/5): - Was treated like family!
- Roger (6/5): - The location was wonderful and close to area attractions and lake. The overall hotel is a bit rundown and could use an update. Shower head was so low flow that it was impossible to get clean…
- Marcile (8/5): - We have stayed here several times over the years. Needs some maintenance
- David (8/5): - Beautiful building and setting. All meals were outstanding and very reasonable. Staff was friendly and helpful. I can't wait to stay here again!
- psyclin (8/5): Nice Place to Stay with Caveats - This is a lovely place to stay, but could be better. Our room on the second floor with "lake view" had a "view" that was totally blocked by the fabulous rubber tree in the courtyard. Only 3rd floor rooms truly have a lake view. The room was very large and decently furnished. Hot water was marginal during our stay--just barely hot enough to shower. The included breakfast could be a lot better. It's discouraging to be in a tropical area and be offered no fruit at all at breakfast--an unappealing fruit dish is available at an extra charge. We were also annoyed to be offered too little bottled water, and told that we could refill in the lobby. Refill what? The empty water bottles?
- Frank (10/5): - Wonderful staff.
- Eduardo (10/5): - Really enjoyed my stay here. My 3rd floor room was huge and with an excellent view of the lake. The gardens are immaculately kept and daily breakfast was delicious. Very easy walk to the main areas of town and convenient to everything. Would definitely return.
- jack (10/5): - Excellent staff. Owners on site
- johndD7673XF (10/5): The Best In Ajijic - This hotel treats customers like family. Their food service is limited to breakfast and late lunch-early dinner and the food is excellent. Staff are friendly and the owner is usually around for queries. Well located on the waterfront but minutes walking to fine restaurants and other town ammenities. We stayed 50 days, each a treat.
- Nathan (8/5): - Need to go to front desk for Iron and ironing board. No blowdryer in rooms. Still, the place the is beautiful and the property is scenic. The restaurant is popular with licals and guests. The rooms are rustic and clean. Enclosed free parking.
- Kimberley (8/5): - It was a lovely place to stay. Our room was above the restaurant with a great view. Always something going on which made it quite enjoyable and interesting.
- Analaura (8/5): - The food was ok, we enjoyed our meal.
- Juan (8/5): - The property is old but well maintained. Staff were a bit too serious and seemed tired at times. Yet it’s a worthwhile stay. The restaurant in the property is beautiful. Glad that wifi was excellent and that the hotel was within walking distance of the pier area of the lake. We will go back.
- Leslie (8/5): - Outdated but clean and efficient
- Ken (8/5): Lovely views from this historic property! - Enjoyable 3rd stay here with delicious breakfast, good service and comfortable accommodations. Especially enjoyed mountain
views and comfort up on the mirador.
- Mario (10/5): - Definitely will be back
- Dee (10/5): - Great! Micheal and his staff were very welcoming! Great ambiance, convenient to everything in Ajijic, but away from the noise! We will be back! Thank you Michael, Judy and staff!
- OnAir229546 (10/5): Great stay - Beautiful hotel, in great location near the lake. Staff so friendly and helpful. Room was cleaned every day. Breakfast was delicious with seating inside and outside garden. Very close to everything but quiet.
Walkable to the malecon and Ajijic plaza.
- Donald (10/5): - It’s not a Hilton, but it’s very nice. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant is excellent.
- Cristina (10/5): - I loved the charm & beauty of this hotel.
- Lorna (10/5): - The Nueva Posada is bar none the most beautiful hotel in Ajjic . Most of the staff and waiters have worked at this hotel for many years - and that says a lot. Everyone seems happy to be working. There or visiting there . It is a stunning property from its imported pink marble bathroom sinks to its dining room table tops. The beautiful plants both inside the hotel and outside mingle with priceless Mexican antiques and Folk Art. Book a room on the 3rd floor with a terrace. The beautiful view of Lake Chapala and the charming white table and chairs with an abundance of flowering plants, is well worth it,
- Lorna (10/5): - Excellent. Best in Ajjic . A must stay just for the grounds and historical Archie alone. Excellent bilingual setvice
- Janice (8/5): - This property has the classic old Mexican charm and architectural elements with up to date amenities. Nice shower nice free breakfast most desk personnel were cordial one was not. Most waitstaff were professional one was not. I would go again lovely view of the lake as well.
- James (4/5): - Great location and nice grounds, but signs of neglect and deferred maintenance everywhere.
Many of the staff are indifferent. Ajijic is not known for great hotels but this one is exceptionally poor.
- jaime (10/5): Great little gem in Ajijic! - This is a great little hotel adjacent Lake Chapala, hence a magnificent view of the lake. The staff is very friendly and accommodating yet professional. The complementary breakfast is also very good. I highly recommend this place whether traveling solo or with family or with large group. Jaime Prado, October, 2024
- Taraleigh (10/5): - I came to Ajijic for my 60th birthday alone. I am thinking of retiring here. 😊
The hotel was the perfect setting and exactly what I needed. So quaint and quiet. I had a huge room on the 2nd floor with a view of the lake. The staff are all AMAZING! I enjoyed both the chicken picatta and the fish and chips. Gracias to you all!!
- Deborah (8/5): - La Nueva Posada is a lovely boutique hotel conveniently located within walking distance of banks, car rental, pharmacy, restaurants, and transportation. The rooms were clean and well stocked with towels. The beds, sheets, and pillows were very comfortable, and the hotel staff are excellent. The restaurant provides both indoor and outdoor seating and has a decent selection of food. We had to move from a room by the pool to another room on the 3rd floor with a gorgeous view of Lake Chapala due to lack of internet service which I needed for work. The staff was very accomodating and we really appreciated their quick response. It's a little like staying at The Second Best Magnolia Hotel with guests greeting each other in the mornings at breakfast. The pool was fresh, clean, and very inviting (not heated), and the gardens were very well maintained and really pretty. The hotel was a little run-down and could do with a refreshing make-over in the bathrooms especially, but overall, we had a great stay.
- Michael (8/5): - property is simply too far from any of the attractions and everything is just too far away to walk to. The price is too high for all the inconvenience.
- Joe (8/5): - nice place, quiet except for church bells and rosters ( but it is Mexico ) restaurant had good food and free breakfast was good.
- Lorna Mary (10/5): - If you want to experience what a magical village of Ajijic has to offer look no further than La Nueva Posada . The rooms are large, the beds and bedding luxurious and the outside garden dining option is beautiful. The staff is well trained, friendly and seem genuinely happy to work there. The atmosphere is positive and friendly as to step into the grand entryway . It is historic in design but with all the modern conveniences like AC, high speed internet , cleanliness and amazing food.
- Jaime (8/5): - Classic property in the heart of Ajijic
- Cecilia (10/5): - Everything was very good. The breakfast was awesome. The wait staff, except one server were friendly and caring. The owner was always there and happy to be of help. He greeted everyone every day. The rooms were large The ACwas great, but there are about 3 rooms that dont have ac. So make sure you know. The view was good. The day I left they were trimming the large tree😢 But now the view was better. It was quiet, except one day when a couple of people were drinking on the roof and being pretty loud at 2:30 in the morning. Otherwise it was a perfect stay. Thank you!!!! I hope to return soon.
- Hugues (10/5): Awesome place - Everything was super clean and the beds were very comfortable. Lovely place!
- Elmer W (8/5): - Facilities show wear and tear. Bathrooms not modern.
- Clinton (8/5): - Great place in Ajijic but needs an upgrade
- Alvaro Joya (8/5): - Loved the friendly staff, and the breakfast was amazing. The outdoor dining area was beautiful with the lake as a amazing backdrop.
- Jose (10/5): - Muchas Gracias. Muy amables todos. Regresare
- Daniel (10/5): Wonderful respite, relaxing with great service. - Awesome. Established hotel, solid service and beautiful old world charm.
Enthusiastic air conditioning.
Parking (free) on site.
Quick walk to the Bonanza and Tango restaurants (great food and ambiance).
Quiet.
Terraces and views and a nice slice of view to the lake.
To be picky, GREAT hot water and water pressure, great daily service for the room, very clean establishment.
Highly recommend. Will stay here again.
- monica (10/5): - Staff was extremely welcoming and nice. Hotel is clean and beautiful!
- Patricio (8/5): - It is a quaint hotel with a lot of personality. The rooms are spacious and clean. Everything in the room worked well, including the AC, TV, etc. The mattress and pillows are lumpy, which would be the only critique for the hotel.
- tanya (10/5): - Beautiful building, clean room, comfortable bed, easy to walk around
- Eric (10/5): Best in Ajijic! - One of our favorite hotels!
- Nelson (8/5): - Sorry first review was for other hotel. Not sure how to remove. This is nice hotel
- Robert (8/5): - We loved everything about this property. Unfortunately, the internet went down the second day we were there which made for a small inconvenience. Otherwise, the staff and owner were great and will definitely be returning.
- Monica (10/5): - Staff was amazing
- Jorge (10/5): - Very clean and peaceful, I would like stay there again.
- Rolando (8/5): - Huge room, clean, and the staff was very friendly. Great restaurant with a great view when sitting outside.
The room was hot during the day, no ac and no proper fans. Room had a ceiling fan but it’s not centered over the bed and it was in winter mode, so no real draft coming down to cool you off.
Lots of flying bugs inside the room, I mean LOTS. Room needs to be better insulated as said bugs come into the room in droves. They need to do a better job with mosquito screens. Loud barking dogs late into the night.
No microwave, no fridge, no coffeemaker!
- Daniel Harry (10/5): - Great location and service. We had an excellent breakfast that was included with our room rate.
- 716cathyi (10/5): A Perfect Mexican get away - Charming small boutique style hotel. Family run with owners present to help with any concerns or travel plans. Very clean and comfortable rooms. The breakfasts are well prepared, tasty and large. Ideal place to get around town or just hang out. The pool is cool but refreshing. The decor is spectacular. Don’t pass this one up.
- 907wendyd (10/5): Our Mexican slice of paradise - Beautiful posada in a glorious lakeside setting with exceptional service. We've been going for years and savour our spotlessly clean 3rd floor lake-view room, super comfortable beds, delicious breakfasts, crystal clean pool, garden dining room - but most of all the Eager family and their staff who welcome us and care for us. This is a magical place - wonderful any time of the year.
- RebelPhysh (10/5): Charming boutique Inn experience in Mexico. - Old world charm and lovely staff. Our experience here was exceptional. The rooms are so spacious and the beds are very comfortable. I highly recommend the Lakeview rooms with a balcony. Lovely place to watch the sunrise or sit in the sun and enjoy the stunning food. The food is excellent, too. The patio under the massive rubber tree is magical - especially at night. Paco the parrot is entertaining to say the least … especially his antics when his breakfast is late. Love the location - easy walk to the plaza and malacon, as well as cafes and boutiques We had such a memorable experience here. I don’t often return to the same place but La Nueva Posada is certainly an exception.
- Janice (10/5): Beautiful Boutique Hotel - What a wonderful spot to stay. This family run boutique hotel is very comfortable in every way--from the generous sized rooms, perfect beds, tasty breakfasts and dinners. The location is fantastic--close enough for walking just about anywhere you'd like to go in Ajijic--far enough from any noises that might disrupt your sleep. All in all, it is a great spot!
- Euphrosyne (8/5): - It was clean. No AC. TV cable would freeze frequently.
- michael (10/5): - Great stay -hotel staff and owner most helpful and always there to help and answer any questions. As others have noted no A/C but wasn’t a problem for our visit in mid Sept. suggest you ask for a mini fridge if they have one available. *****
- Douglas (10/5): Jewel in Ajijic - This hotel is a true jewel in the heart of Ajijic. Meeting the owner and hearing the history made the experience all the better. Lakeside with beautiful gardens, walking distance to restaurants, shops, and markets makes the location ideal.
The hotel is pet friendly. The rooms slightly dated but extremely clean, very spacious, and surprisingly quiet. This is a traditional Mexican hacienda style hotel with many areas of interest and art. Take time to visit the hotel itself.
I cannot say enough about the staff. All were friendly, helpful, accommodating, and interested in making your stay a good one. The restaurant people were absolutely great. On top of the service and bilingual. The food was excellent.
The only negative may be the restaurant hours (9-5) but with coffee in the garden prior to the restaurant opening, and within walking distance of many other places to eat the restriction was not a total inconvenience. If you get a chance to eat at the restaurant try the chicken fried chicken with redeye gravy. You will think you are in the US.
- Scott (10/5): - Has everything you need, close to the restaurants, walkable its clean spacious, quiet and some cool looking art!
- Climber51053379066 (10/5): Amazing stay! - Beautiful and charming hotel! The staff and owners were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was amazing! We would love to know the pancake recipe- they were the best we’ve ever had 😋! The proximity to the malecon and town center is perfect.
- Erin (8/5): - Beautiful grounds, very clean, great restaurant, lovely view of the lake, great hotel. Walkable to all of Ajijíc. I would highly recommend.
- Eugenia (2/5): - We stayed for just hours in this hotel because it was 90 degrees outside this hotel doesn’t have ac and the only option instead of giving us our 2 day refund was a fan 🙄
- Robert (10/5): - The hotel was awesome. It was very clean and walkable to shopping, dining and sight seeing options. The rooms were large, very clean and the beds very comfortable. Only thing I disliked was the room was very bright early in the morning so I wished the had darkening curtains on the large windows. Excellent breakfast included.
- Mary E (10/5): - I want to say thanks very much to the lady at the front desk. I wish I had gotten her name! She helped me a great deal after my phone was stolen. I'll be back for sure!
- Bruce (10/5): - Great place to retreat to. Would be nice if the rooms were airconditioned. Big rooms, plenty of space.
- Larry (10/5): - Excellent staff, friendly and eager to make your stay the best possible. The room and entire area was extremly clean. The breakfast included is also excellent! We plan to return for a full month stay.
- bernardino (10/5): - Thank you it is a wonderful place to stay
- Sagrario (8/5): - El hotel está viejito pero bonito, el personal siempre muy amable, en general bien!
- DAVIDK198 (10/5): Keep coming back to this great place! - Our first visit to this excellent accommodation in Ajijic was on 2019. Fell in love with it and it's staff. Continue to stay here every year since then!
Something about sitting under the huge rubber tree looking out on the lake just makes it so perfect.
Highly recommended...
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A very quaint inn. A nice location within walking location of the plaza and the Lake Chapala Society. Order their pancakes for breakfast! They were the best!
- johndD7673XF (10/5): A touch of the old world in paradise. - A unique, family-owned and operated, centrally located hotelin Ajijic, on the shore of Lake Chapala. The best breakfast in town served by attentive staff in a charming room or in the most romantic gardens. Will be back next year.
- Y4707BSteresab (10/5): The Most Wonderful Hotel in Ajijic - The location is perfect. Just a stone's throw to the square and all the restaurants and the malecon. Plus, just steps to the playa for sunrises and sunsets and walks to the village.
The staff? Marta, Rita, Jesus, Juan Carlos, Alejandra - everyone at the hotel is so kind. Everyone was very welcoming. The hotel showcases local artists and is very supportive of local arts activities.
We highly recommend the hotel.
- Wei (10/5): - It’s very pleasant. The staff is very helpful.
- Irene (10/5): - Lovely place, beautifully decorated throughout the facility, restaurant setting lakeside is stunning. Wonderful helpful happy staff, willing to assist with needs. Will definitely stay again.
- Helen (10/5): - Always enjoy staying here. The grounds are lovely and the staff friendly and accommodating.
- Phil (10/5): - Very friendly & helpful staff. Beautiful location right on the shoreline. Highly recommend
- Jose (10/5): - Service was great
- C4880VUpset (10/5): Delightfully quaint - Wonderful food, excellent room with older and classy decor.Excellent views of the lake and it was easy to find. Service was excellent and they spoke enough English. Owned by Canadian, but he was not there.
- Lance (10/5): - Classic Ajijic hotel near/on Lake Chapala. Absolutely beautiful dining (with great service and good food) outdoors under the trees with a gorgeous view of the lake. Comfortable room, good internet. Rooms over the pool have a lovely rooftop view.
- Andi (8/5): - La Nueva Posada is unique. The pools size and condition was disappointing but the restaurant and gardens was quite pleasing. An older unique place to stay. We are always happier to stay at a boutique property.
- Sally Laraine (10/5): - This was our second stay here. We loved the lactation being with views of the lake from our room. Easy walk throughout Ajijic
