Guest Reviews
- Darren (10/5): - There is much to like about the Crest Apartments on Barkly. If you are looking for value for money and happy for older apartments that have various levels of upgrade, these are for you. We were initially concerned given the wide range of reviews, but just remember you are not checking into 2025 new, you are checking into clean, comfortable and well presented. Staff were friendly and our apartment was regularly cleaned over the 4 nights of our booking. Beds were comfortable. Our 3 bedroom apartment had a toilet separate to the bathroom and a washer/dryer in the bathroom. It even had a modern spa bath. However my other apartment, while similar, did not have that feature. A good value for money option, with a close tram into the city or down to St Kilda proper. Lots of eating options and a Woolworths (small version) about 10 minute walk away.
- Debra (6/5): - Handy location, parking very tight. Accomodation was not open plan but comfortable
- Matt (6/5): - Serviced apartment was quite spacious. Parts of the apartment were run down. Some of it looked nothing like the photos, particularly the kitchen and bedroom. Old, thin, single pain glass windows like paper in terms of noise reduction.
- Amanda (6/5): - Average place 3 stars
- Lesley (8/5): - Did have a bed with dirty linen, also no lift to take luggage up to 3 floor
- Renee (6/5): - The apartments are separate from the hotel. Clean. Has what you need. Didnt advise there is only stairs & no lift. Not good being on the top floor with an injury that can’t do stairs well.
Otherwise good for the price.
- Chris (4/5): - When we booked. Did not look like pictures online. No towels hand towels in room had to ask 2 times then the next day the room was not serviced at all until we called to ask why
- Megat (6/5): - Not good for family stay
- tristan (10/5): Location - Location, 2 bedrooms, living room
- Sally (6/5): - Rooms were clean and roomy but needed to have coffee or tea bags in room with little long life milk
- Jason (2/5): - On arrival, we walked into a police eviction of someone staying there.
It was extremely loud during the night, lots of parties happening.
Second night there was another police eviction and a fire alarm/evacuation at 3am in the morning.
On the third day, a mouse ran through the living room behind the fridge in the kitchen then back out, past our 5 month old daughter playing on her mat, down the hall not to be found. Staff offered us the room under ours or a free breakfast…
- Dimity (10/5): - Excellent for family’s
- Fiona (8/5): Nice stay - Enjoyed our stay in the apartment, bed was comfortable and easy to access the apartment . disappointed that we paid for parking when we didn’t have too as it was complementary with our stay in the unit. Also we’re not informed of $300 refundable deposit prior to booking for incidentals although there is no mini bar in the apartment.
- Lisa (8/5): - Served our purpose for an overnight-er.
The apartment itself was very spacious and not cramped or small at all, but definitely showed its age.
Great to have onsite parking available for a fee but The car park definitely tests tour driving ability if you drive an suv. Tight is the only word to describe it with 20pt turns to get in and out.
Location is great and in walking distance to restaurants and supermarkets etc but the traffic noise is very intrusive and loud.
Chosen for its location in relation to an event and for 2 bedrooms 3 beds and price but I wouldn’t necessarily stay again for the same event.
- Kerri (2/5): Bad dogs - Worst stay ever , totally mistreated , dirty filthy place forks and cutlery where not clean and the staff at desk do nothing to help with anything at all
- Staci (6/5): - Older accommodation, not all parking is secure. Bedrooms do not have TV. Overall clean and staff were good
- Holupathirage (10/5): - Warm and comfortable though the windows could do with thicker curtains for the winter.
I would've recommended the radiant panel heaters over their very powerful and easy to use dual system air con, while it's clearly a beast, it's an inefficient form of heating that fades the minute it's off to the plus it dries you out something shocking!
They have spa baths as standard! Fantastic!
Probably isn't the fanciest place out there, but for nice location,
- Talbot (2/5): - Got upgraded to apartment next door was dirty. Tv didn’t work ask to be transferred to main building, then when in new building got a bang bang on the door at 2Am by to men. It was the wrong room.
- Anne (6/5): - Firstly, the location is excellent if you need access to St Kilda and parking is a good price.
However, that’s about as good as this review can get. This review is for the serviced 2 bedroom apartment:
1. Check in time is 2pm but our room was not ready until 3:45. We had to wait in the lobby for almost an hour.
2. The bathroom looks nothing like what is advertised. It is a patch up job, and had a broken toilet seat. You can not change the height or direction of the shower head.
3. Carpet stains
4. No elevator access but luckily we are capable enough of taking our own luggage. We were not offered help.
5. A one hour late check out was provided and any extension is $50 per hour after that.
6. Batteries in one remote were flat. We had to remove one set so that we could use the TV in the bedroom.
7. Blinds in the master could not be opened.
8. Buffet breakfast food is average. Expensive for what was on offer. The staff in the dining room were very kind though.
9. Parking is SUPER tight. Advice, do not to take anything bigger that a small SUV. Our Ford Captiva was a challenge to navigate around the poles and into the tight spaces.
Overall, we spent $400 on room, $20, parking and $120 for breakfast (we understand food costs have gone up and made this choice), but it was not worth it. What a shame.
- Melinda (10/5): - cool original fittings with updated facilities
- Geoffrey (8/5): - Stayed in the apartments near the CNR of St Kilda junction. An eclectic mix of '30's old ( building, floors, doors, blinds etc. and new ( carpets, bed, stove, fridge etc. ). Tv remote was missing a battery, smoke detector was missing it's battery, venetian blind in lounge was broken & dirty. Wouldn't stay there a second time but for ease of getting into melb.cbd and the staff being so helpful and understanding, we're more than happy to recommend as a one night stop over
- Karen (10/5): - Had a lovely family stay in 3 bed apartment. Staff were friendly and unit was very clean. Building is old but it's really well placed for St Kilda, the park and the city. Would definitely stay again.
- melissa (10/5): - Our two bedroom apartment was very spacious, did smell of fresh paint but was liveable.our apartment was right on the road side and was very noisy, didn’t get much sleep but the mattress was good. No plug for the spa, so couldn’t use it.
- Amy (8/5): - Lovely stay
- Amanda (6/5): - Handy location if needed to be near by for an event or a hospital stay
- Daniel (6/5): - Room was very old and outdated not clean and uncomfortable
- sue (4/5): Disappointed - Wa s very disappointed on the condition of the place tge stairs were old and unsafe we were put on the top floor very noisy .
The little milks in fridge we’re off .
If you had a shower the whole bathroom flooded it was old and Mildew smell .
Booked tge car two nights when we got back no room had to park out the front .
Just disappointing for the price as have stayed other places for Cheeper .
- Deborah (8/5): A Good Family Apartment. - Great to have an apartment and the spa was a happy surprise.
It wasn't a serviced apartment but due to covid we didn't mind and just asked for what we needed. It is an older apartment but has that Melbourne feel. Close to parks and shops.
- Kim (10/5): Can’t wait til next time! - Always a wonderful stay here. We have a grown up family who’ve moved out of home. We come together every year and go away for the weekend together. This is the perfect place to stay. Plenty of space for everyone and the location is amazing. THANKS AGAIN!
- Ann (10/5): - Thank you we really enjoyed our stay here.
- Chris (6/5): Sadly not a great experience - 2 friends and I were staying in Melbourne for dinner and an early 5 am departure. The motel location was perfect. Our room was detached from the main motel and reception. While we waited for the 3rd person I was going to have a coffee or tea. The kitchen had a bad smell and all milk in the fridge was off and out of date.
We decided to have dinner in the motel's onsite restaurant. Unfortunately this was closed.
Fortunately the beds were very comfortable and the shower was strong and hot with soft large towels.as the common entrance door banged shut every time some one entered the building.
- Tom (8/5): - Perfect for what we needed
- Margaret (6/5): - Parking was extremely tight and very difficult to manoeuvre around large concrete poles. Staff were very friendly and accomodation was clean and comfortable.
- Marian (8/5): - The location is excellent walking distance to the restaurants and cafe's.
Nice and big apartment.
One towel for the two of us yes we ask and received an extra one. Odd glasses no two the same size.
Previous guest make up bag still in the vanity.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The apartments are large & clean but two of them had a rubbish left in them. One had a can in the fridge, the other had food in the bin.
Undercover Parking was very tight but we parked outside.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Accommodation was clean and comfortable, staff were excellent in assisting me, very helpful. Short easy 10 min drive to Spirit of Tasmania terminal was good for me too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Me and my family had a awesome time thank yous very much highly recommend Expedia
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was very quite, clean and well priced. Large rooms and close to shops and restaurants in Fitzroy street.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The apartment was spacious, bed comfortable, and bathroom was very good (didn’t get the chance to enjoy the spa!). Will not hesitate booking a stay with Crest Serviced Apartments again! The staff were wonderful!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice comfortable stay very quiet and relaxing after a days work.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Staff were very helpful which was the highlight.
The disappointment was the apartment was dirty and didn't feel very secure
- Craig (10/5): - Good stay, great rate and restaurants close by. Large apartments and clean and tidy
- Verified traveler (2/5): Noisy stay in Melbourne - We don’t recommend, our apartment was located right on the corner, it was extremely noisy.
Made for a terrible night sleep.
- Sophia (8/5): - It's clean and convenient but a bit noisy being in St Kilda. The kitchen utensils are insufficient if you plan to cook a bit.
- Carl (8/5): - Good value for money accommodation in St Kilda. While the building is old, the apartment is nicely renovated, large and clean.
- Ashwin (2/5): Horrible - Dirty rooms, reception guys were helpful.
Garbage was left right infront of our door.
Window glass was broken.
- Craig (10/5): - Location was great, easy access. Comfortable apartment
- Daniel (2/5): - I asked them NOT to enter my room to clean it (due to Covid) and they breached my privacy which was totally unacceptable. I had things open which I would have put away had I known someone would enter the room like toothbrush, mouth guard etc. In normal times not such a big deal but inexcusable in these times.
- Sherryn (8/5): - Great location cafes in walking distance and supermarket. Tram out front to go to the city.
- Wendy (10/5): - Fantastic 2 bedroom apartment with spa in great location
- Verified traveler (6/5): - good location, close to Albert Park & St Kilda Beach. Old Building, some plates need to be cleaner.. not much kitchen facility. ut we can't complain at this price.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Large rooms but WiFi was virtually non existent. Even politely asked for them to look at it but no difference noted, a real pity!
- Kim (10/5): Love to come back - Fantastic location. Everything we could have needed. Excluding value for money. Only issue we had was hotels.com app sent us messages saying checkout was at 11am. However we got a phone call at around 10.40 from reception wondering when we were going to check out as we we’re meant to check out at 10
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The people were friendly and helpful. I wasn’t aware that the apartment I was going into could only be accessed by stairs, this could be an issue for someone less mobile, that also goes for the shower over the bath.
- Sharon (8/5): - Great size apartment. Wifi didn’t work so the kids couldn’t watch any Netflix and the staff weren’t helpful at all. No bowls for cereal in morning and bath was not the cleanest.
- stephen (8/5): comfortable hotel - comfortable hotel with free parking a bonus.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The appartment had everything you needed and offered great public transport
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Fantastic size (3 bedroom self contained apartment). Quiet but it’s all upstairs - be prepared to carry your luggage up a flight or two!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We loved the space of our 2 bedroom apartment. Heaps of room. It was clean and tidy. It just needs a few bits of TLC to bring it back to a perfect standard. Overall we were very happy.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Pretty neat and tidy.
But
They took a $500 deposit which seems over the top
And now a week later it hasn’t been returned
- Cindy (10/5): - We enjoyed a great, spacious 3 bedroom apartment with modern, comfortable furnishings. Easy check in and check out. Very friendly staff. An easy 15 minute walk to Luna Park & waterfront.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Noisey room (we could literally hear every footstep and movement of the room above) broken lights/ microwave and taps. Terrible parking. Uncomfortable beds.
The saving grace was the small cafe/bottle shop.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Thank you, it was perfect for what we needed.
The place was useful and location fantastic, even with the road works.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was a great location with easy access to the tram into the city. The price which included parking for a 3 bedroom apartment was great.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were all very accommodating and friendly. Great central location for the purpose of our trip. Will definitely be back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff went above and beyond! They were so genuine and helpful, I can’t praise them enough. The hotel is in a great location directly opposite a tram stop. Our family size, three bedroom apartment was perfect for 2 adults and 4 kids but would comfortably accommodate 6 adults. My only criticism is the need for better lighting in the stair wells but for the price of the accommodation the hotel is well maintained and provides a service well above its price point. Would happily stay here again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Spacious and very clean. A bit noisy due to the location and if I have to be picky, very uncomfortable pillows. But absolutely perfect location on a tram line made it very easy to get around Melbourne.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly, helpful staff. Position was great and easy to get public transport.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely spacious unit . Great price and free parking . Would definitely stay again .
- Verified traveler (8/5): Under expectation 2nd stay - Plus: Very friendly & helpful hotel staff.
Minus: My 2nd stay was a bit out of the expectation, compared to the 1st experience.
1. Apartment is located at 2nd floor. There's no lift which made the access difficult especially for elderly. Appreciate the hotel staff's every effort to help switch to ground level unit, unfortunately it wasn't available.
2. Bathroom is older and less renovated during my 2nd stay. Toilet is at another door, which is less convenient
3. Remote controls (TV and aircon) with underpowered battery
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Fabulous location. Spacious rooms @ a lovely spa bath.
- RonnaClint (8/5): - The place is awesome! Really close to the city and beach. Reasonably priced. The only fault we can think of is the weak wifi. It doesn't reach the lounge and the rest of the rooms after that.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great value for money. We had heaps of space in the 3 bedroom apartment and wish we could stay for longer.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very busy Melbourne - We arrived in Melbourne as a family of six but, although the location was ok, the 3 bedroom apartment was very noisy due to location, a very busy road junction, which could have been prevented by secondary glazing.
Bedrooms didn’t have sufficient storage space for clothes for more than one night, we were there for 5 nights, and the toilet lacked a mosquito/fly net and the louvre had not been cleaned for quite some time.
Other than that we thoroughly enjoyed our time in St Kilda. Some great little bars and restaurants.
Our grandchildren and children were totally overwhelmed by Melbourne but the overcrowding of the trams is an issue which is a safety issue which must be addressed
- Verified traveler (8/5): - good location and roomy and good price - we were very happy
- Verified traveler (8/5): - They keys always cannot open.
And there should some simple writing materials.
I stayed for 3 nites but the beverage like coffee and tea bags was not refill.
- Anna (10/5): Awesome - We stayed in the 3 bed apartment which was an amazing apartment very modern and comfortable only downside was there’s no lift and having a baby with us made it hard work going up and down the stairs with all our stuff
- Verified traveler (4/5): - We were not allowed into our room without photo proof of the person who had purchased and paid for the room. My husband had left his licence four hours away as we had travelled with our son. In the end our son had to ring the booking agency and add his name so that he could then show them his licence! The room was already paid for! An elderly couple in their early 80's had been waiting for 3 hours to get into their room as their son had booked the room for them. He eventually had to drive into Melbourne to prove that he had booked it. Disgraceful!!! We were charged $500 bonds for the one night, I'm fairly sure the elderly couple were not going to trash the room. Will NEVER stay here again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - We had a problem with identification at check-in. The staff did nothing to try to help us nor did they show understanding or empathy even though it was 44 degrees and my children and I were very uncomfortable. I was very disappointed with how they handled the problem. We had to walk to a police station to verify our identity after a long, hot journey.
- F (6/5): - 3br apartment - not what I was expecting. Apartments are separate to the main hotel in an old but renovated building. No lift, water pressure in shower poor and no laundry facility in apartment. Designated smoking area right outside the front door was not pleasant as the smells travelled inside through a big gap under the door that would benefit from a weather strip. Overall not terrible but not great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The accomodation was well located and very clean.. service was excellent.. there were however many stairs.. not mentioned originally and no lift Which made access difficult for me with a walker
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel was there for a week and can not fault it will stay again
- Irene (8/5): St Kilda charm - Very spacious apartment in a great location, near public transport and within walking distance to the beach. Staff were very friendly and welcoming.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Excellent value for money, especially with parking included. Flat 2514, a ground floor one bedroom flat was spacious and comfortable. All facilities, including cooking, worked well although hoit water sometimes took some time to arrive. the builidng, separate from the main complex, was a little old but well maintained and renovated. Public transport to the city and eslewhere was in easy walking distance. I would stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location, well maintained. We arrived in the rain and cleaners were doing the rounds so trying to get our luggage up the outdoor, wet stairs around cleaning equipment was difficult. Otherwise, a pleasant stay.
The shower was very dark, which was a bit strange.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great Location and parking available. Staff were able to help with a late checkin meal at 9pm and even though it took a while for meals, it was a good feed in restaurant.
Only complaint was the apartment bedroom for the kids was not very secure with a window that couldn’t close and was open to street noise and weather.
Otherwise, would have no hesitation to recommend for family comfort in Melbourne.
- R (4/5): - The room was wonderful however the staff were unhelpful and grumpy. I won’t be staying there again.
- Maree (8/5): - Good location, lots of space. A bit frustrating that the apartment did not have a table to sit at and there were only 3 stools to sit at the kitchen counter - we asked for another one for our family of four. Very quiet even though it is on a main road with a bus stop right outside. Also annoying that a self catering apartment did not have a washing machine with the guest laundry being in the other building and our key not automatically programmed to access it.
Apartment was very spacious and otherwise very comfortable. Great location within waling distance of St Kilda restaurants and a quick tram ride into the city. Staff were always very helpful.
- Christopher (10/5): Great Deal and Excellent stay - Apart from the high security bond of $500 for our 2 bedroom apartment, I must say that this is the best hotel my family had stayed in Melbourne. The apartment is big and spacious and the room facilities are beyond our expectations. I am thankful to the hotel supervisor for helping us to waive off the 2nd security bond when my family checked out to Philip Island and checked in for another night stay when we returned. She has made considerate arrangement for us to enable our stay with the hotel a very pleasant one. I will definitely come back again:)
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great place
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The apartment is extremely good value as it is so close to restaurants, transport and beaches.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was ok. But the TV reception in the lounge room was poor and the TV in the bedroom didn’t work.
Also, there was loud reno work being done early on a Sat morning that disturbed my sleep.
A convenient location for simple place to sleep but not a lux st kilda experience
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel clean and staff were so polite and helpful
- Marina (10/5): Great Apartment, spacious room and good service - The 3 bed room apartment was great and spacious. We wish that there could be 2 bath room to make it perfect instead of 1 bath room to share for 6 people. Good location and friendly staff. Daily housekeeping and free parking is an add on for apartment in Melbourne. Thank you for the excellence stay , we enjoy it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to Albert Park. Could do with an external renovation, particularly the stairway.
- Jane (8/5): - Nice and clean units, had all we neeed. Staff were very helpful
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was excellent in a handy location. The only downside was on the Tuesday evening there was a function at the restaurant, & we were unable to find a parking spot, as all the parking was taken by people not staying at the apartments.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very spacious clean rooms, although apartment was on top floor and with no lift access
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel with good amenities close to a lot of facilities
- Sh (10/5): - Beautifully and excellent apartment with friendly staff
