- Verified traveler (4/5): - No nos gustó nada del hotel. Está alejando de la zona bonita de lanciudad. El área de la entrada estaba invadida por bultos. La recepción no estaba fácil de encontrar. La ventana no tenía cortinas para toda el área.

- Stefan (6/5): - Das Hotel ist schon sehr abgewohnt und liegt direkt an einer lauten Straße. Bei offenem Fenster war es sehr laut. Das Zimmer war als 3-Bett-Zimmer deklariert, aber das 3. Bett war kein vollwertiges Bett, sondern ein Klappbett. Das Personal war nett. Es gab für uns nur die Möglichkeit unser Auto ca. 5min zu Fuß entfernt in einem Parkhaus kostenpflichtig zu parken. Der Preis wiederum war in Ordnung, auch in Anbetracht der erwähnten Schwächen. Als günstige Unterkunft in guter Lage ist es ok, mehr aber auch nicht.

- Andreas (4/5): - Hotel ist fast leer, unbewohnt. Seit 20 Jahren nicht renoviert. Restaurant geschlossen. Fußboden klebt. Ein Angestellter managt das gesamte Haus. Extrem laute Straße, Kreuzung und Strassenbahn. Fazit: Für Durchreisende, die ein Dach über den Kopf brauchen, in Ordnung.

- Silvia (8/5): - Das Personal ist unterschiedlich bemüht, 2 waren sehr bemüht und freundlich. In 5 Minuten ist. Man in der Stadt. Parken kann man gut am Wihrer Bahnhof kostenlos von dort 15 Minuten in die Stadt oder S-Bahn. Das Haus ist alt, aber die Zimmer sind geräumig und sehr sauber. Für eine Städtetpur optimal. Frühstück kann dazu gebucht werden.

- Samantha (8/5): Close to Downtown are - The staff were very helpful to 5 Americans who were slow going with the language. Close to all things downtown. Our 3rd floor windows were a dream until someone was smoking in the garden below. We knew this going in, staff was friendly and VERY helpful.

- Norbert (6/5): - Perfecte ligging ten opzichte van het centrum van de stad. Prima ontbijt. De kamer was ruim maar vrij armoedig ingericht. Douchen was eigenlijk niet mogelijk want je stond onder een schuin dak en er ontbrak een scherm of gordijn om te voorkomen dat de badkamer nat zou worden. De omgeving isvrij rumoerig. Vraag een kamer aan de achterkant in verband met zeer drukje Schwarzwaldweg B31 voor de deur.

- Stefano (6/5): - It's a quite good hotel in city centre.......but the breakfast was totally disappointing! 14 euro per person and we disn't finf nothing eatable ...just few scramble eggs, bacon was finishwd at 9 o'clock and, even of we asked, they didn't prepared it more. Also croissants were finished and when we asked for them, they bring us few little croissant totally burned and not eatable! So finally, 14 euro just for coffee and scrable eggs! Never more!

- Andreas (4/5): Lage und Personal top, der Rest enttäuschend! - Personal war nett und hilfsbereit. Und auch die Lage ist top.Dennoch empfand ich die Zimmer vom Standard mehr wie eine Jugendherberge. Alles war ziemlich in die Jahre gekommen und auch zum Teil einfach defekt. Das Bett war viel zu weich/ durchgelegen, der Boden im Flur ( mag sein der der Denkmal geschützt ist) aber wenn Mann darüber läuft bekommt es jeder durch die dünne Zimmertür mit. Internet war eine Zumutung und auch der Zimmerschlüssel mit dem schweren Anhänger ist mehr so aus den 80igern. Alles in allem viel zu teuer für das was geboten wird. Es ist einfach alt.

Easy to book and spacious three bed room for a family. Nice check-in service and easy to park the car opposite. Lift in the house. Its a good place for families exploring freiburg.

- Christian (6/5): Nice hotel, missing dark curtains - It’s nice and close to the center but still bit outside and you need to cross several roads first that is not super-ideal. But being in the heart in like 10 mins is still great! Room is OK except of one specific thing: The curtains only cover 2/3 of the window and are anyway useless as the light goes fully through! Having dark curtains (full coverage) is what I would expect for a good sleep.

- Meander826681 (6/5): Super place to eat ! Great food - I give this place 3 and half stars maybe even 4 only because of the wonderful food and friendly staff. I put a friend up there and she just loved the place specially because of the old charm of the dining room and the food and she mentioned that her room was super. If it was just a restaurant it would get a big 5! I decided to stay there myself as I had a late night business dinner and did not want to drive back home 35k. This is where the hotel faltered. My friend must have gotten the best room in the place I guess and I don't know what the others looked liked but the one I stayed in we-llllllll? Best advice just make sure that if they try to put you in room 23 refuse it. It's to bad because with such a wonderful place to have dinner and friendly staff they seem to really miss the boat on the warmth and care of at the least the room I occupied. : ( To be fair and honest I have dined at many of the restaurants in Freiburg and this one holds it's own with most of them. Best to have them send a good pic of the room you will stay in.

- Vacationtime2014 (10/5): Not sure why bad reviews - We checked into this hotel in a pinch. We booked a hotel but found out the hotel we booked was in FreibErg not FreibUrg. Yes there are two cities with almost identical names Anyway the staff were amazing and helpful especially Oji The room was clean and included breakfast which was very good The room is on a Main Street so, yes, could be a bit noisy with the window open But if I was there again, would definitely book the hotel again
- Chris (4/5): Disappointing - Hotel was next to a busy road. We visited in summer and as there is no air conditioning and there was no fan in the room, we opened the window on the first night - road noise all night meant we go no sleep. We asked for a fan on the second night which we were given but in summer this should already be available in the room. Breakfast was disappointing for the price (not included as standard in the room rate), and there was limited choice by German ‘buffet’ standards. The bread was dry and hard, and all of the speck and wurst had gone by 8:45 so we missed out on the first morning. If you do stay, we recommend you skip the hotel breakfast and stead eat in the lovely bakery across the road.

Negatives: no parking, you have to park on street, pay parking meters. Our room was on street side which is quite busy. But overall well worth the price

- Coulsdonman (6/5): Hotel in need of a new identity - My wife and I stayed there in November 2017. The restaurant was shut, except for breakfast, as the restaurant tenant had terminated their agreement with the hotel owner or maybe had just done a "flit". The hotel "plusses" are the pleasant staff and location (close to the Old Town and Minster, but outside the City gates in a less favoured area by a busy road) . Our bedroom had been "modernised" some 15 years ago, with a bed, a good sized wardrobe and external door frame with a weird triangle motif, a strange clothes hanger, some framed prints and an outlandish "art" painting of the 1980's. . It was clean with a comfortable bed, but very "minimal" with thin curtains, and thin duvet. The duty member of staff gave us blankets En suite bathroom was tiled, fine in size, and clean, with a bath with shower / taps . It was clearly once a top Freiburg hotel of the Victorian era, and is crying out to be restored in keeping with the original architecture. I would like to be more enthusiastic as the staff were nice, it was clean, and the price we paid quite low, (but excluded breakfast), but I would not want to recommend it for someone seeking a "holiday hotel". It suited our needs for convenient location.

- Justin d. (8/5): River + City Traffic = good nights sleep - Perfectly adequate. Room 11 was spacious and is right along the main road. I left my windows open each night and there was lots of noise from the traffic but as I city dweller I appreciated that. What I loved was the sound of the river. Wifi needs to be upgraded. Great location. I would stay again.

- ellimk (6/5): Good location and view, but smelly room and noisy - The location of the hotel is very good, only few minutes walk from Schwabentor and all restaurants in the old town. We also got a room from 3rd floor facing the old town, so the view was good. What puts my review down is that someone had been smoking in the non-smoking room just before we came in (??) and the air was thick of cigarette smell when we got in the room. We had to air out, but it didn't help much since the smell had stuck in curtains and especially the shower curtain was disgusting. Windows were also not very thick and we could hear the cars from the very heavy trafficked road in front of the hotel and in the morning hours we woke up in party crowd singing on their way home from bar. Also the room door was thin and we could clearly hear people talking and walking in the hallway. So, perhaps good for heavy sleepers. Parking was available, but only couple spots. We parked on the street, since it was a public holiday and parking was free. The room temperature could be regulated yourself from the radiators, which we found good. Bed was also comfortable. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel, but across the street in a nice bakery. The hotel had a thai restaurant in it, but it seemed not be doing so well, there were no customers around. Free WLAN and it also worked quite fine in the upper floor. All in all, just an ok stay for one night, but for 100 € a night it was completely overpriced since the room was a bit outdated and worst of all, smelled like cigarettes.
- Yettoner (10/5): Third visit to this great town - Had stayed here twice before so we knew the hotel but this time discovered the garage for our motorcycles which was a nice bonus! Great location and a spacious room for four men with motorbike gear! Friendly staff and good breakfast, one of our group is returning with his wife and we all hope to stay there again this year. Free Wifi works fine in the room. Location is good. Next to Schlossberg, very near to old town and 20 minutes away from the train station.

Positive things: the position (not so far from the centre of Friburg), personnel at the reception, no problem with the bathroom, view from the balcony (where is positioned an old little table and three good chairs). Not positive: NO FRIGO in the room, no hair drier in the bath room, cob web at the entrance, bad smell at the entrance, only three parking car to reserve, no air conditioning, room needs a painting......

- Tuan (6/5): Everage price with average service - Average. We are 4 persons. Room has 1 double bed and 1 couch for 2 persons. The couch is in so bed condition that one can not sleep on it. It has 1 big hole on one end. I made more photos from this couch to report to Hotels.com to complain about it to get some compensation
- alioshkaaa (4/5): Too much money for the service - The hotel is not bad, for one stay it's ok. However, with the price over 100 eur/night (double bedroom) it is a big too expensive. It is not that central, the room was big, but not very comfortable, just wooden floor, a very few TV channels, no hair dryer available. For half the price it would be ok, but not for more than 100.

- DebraKriz (2/5): Hotel Schiller - Stockholm Syndrome - I was with a group of writers and we spent 3 extremely hot weeks at the Hotel Schiller in August. I'll start with the Pros of the hotel. It's conveniently located. Did I make Pros plural? My mistake; the location was the only positive quality of this property. By the time we left our group was coming up with 'positives' like with the Stockholm Syndrome where one begins to identify with the "captors" (in our case the Hotel Schiller). For instance: 1. The Schiller encourages social activity. All the hotel guest became well-acquainted as we gathered daily around the one lobby chair that had Internet reception. Laptops were placed on the back, arms and under the chair, and we were contorted around the chair, so we could each try to check in with our family and employers. 2. The Schiller encourages bonding. Guests became united in disgust with the hotel manager who, despite the restaurant being empty all day except at breakfast, would not allow anyone to sit inside the restaurant to use the advertised Internet (which did not exist in the hotel rooms.) 3. The Schiller encouraged bravery. Steep, winding, stone stairs and hallways where the lights were off every evening. There were automatic lights but they would not come on until the guest was 7 or 8 steps into the stairwell. Same with the public bathroom - down a small flight of stairs (in the dark) and into a dark bathroom where the lights would usually come on by the time the door closed behind me and I couldn't find my way out. 4. The Schiller promoted local merchants. Hotel did not provide shampoo, soap, wash cloths or any type of toiletry. To get a cup of ice required repeated begging. Luckily across the street is a lovely friendly cafe where we could purchase soda, water, etc. and there was a market 5 or 6 blocks away to purchase soap, etc. If you find it necessary to have wash cloths I suggest you bring some from home as at the local markets I ended up purchasing cloth diapers for washing my face. 5. The Hotel Schiller promoted self-sufficiency. The room was 'cleaned' usually once every day or so but that merely meant bringing in new towels (sometimes) and occasionally emptying the trash cans. Dirty glasses were never exchanged for clean glasses, used dishes were not taken, the floor was not swept, and, in protest, I stripped my own bed a couple of times in order to have clean sheets put on. Luckily the bath towels were paper thin and quick to dry since they often had to be reused for several days. The term Stockholm Syndrome is also fitting because for 3 weeks we had VERY little sleep. The hotel is on a busy highway with trucks rumbling by at all hours and it was so very hot that closing the windows was not an option.
- 39JohnC39 (6/5): Great location, disapointi room. - This hotel doesn't really need much to make it something special. A lick of paint and some carpets would make a huge difference. As it was, it is just somewhere to sleep, albeit in a great location near the city centre. That said, the reception staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfast in the lovely restaurant is worth the extra euros.
- G9876 (8/5): Very convenient and perfectly ok - Chose Schiller because it was the only hotel near the centre available a short notice in mid March and was pleasantly surprised, I have given 4 stars versus the consensus of three since it seems a perfectly ok hotel, not super special medieval but very convenient, just immediately outside the city centre yet so close you can walk everywhere within 5 to 10 minutes max, and being just outside they even have their own small parkplatz which is useful. And a bath in the room not just a shower. We didn't try the breakfast, as everywhere in Europe it is far cheaper and more fun to walk 100 yards to a local Backerei. (So to stress that's not a complaint about this hotel).
- Fady (4/5): Great staff working at a not so great hotel - The hotel location is great and the staff is very friendly. But the hotel itself isn't really good at all. My room reminded me of a cheap hostel with poor bedding and a very flat square pillow. They even gift you one bath towel that they place directly on the bed. Again, it conjured up images of a youth hostel. Definitely the worst hotel I've stayed in for a while in terms of accommodation. If the hotel was 40-50 Euro, it wouldn't be so bad, but they charged as much as the other hotel I stayed in the night before that was literally day and night difference.
- graeme549 (6/5): Nice Friendly wee hotel - Lovely little hotel in a brilliant spot on the edge of the City Centre.Very friendly stuff at check in. Room at the front so was a little noisy until the wee small hours however would still stay here again. Lovely Cafe right across the road and if you fancy taking in a Bundesliga match (FC Freiburg) then just follow the river all the way up to the ground,its a beautiful 1 hour walk.. You will get a ticket at the bus information desk at the main railway station. I would also visit the indoor food market above Martins Brui.
- sorinae946 (8/5): Great location, historical building - I love the location! It's easy to walk everywhere from this location. The hotel is in a beautiful historical building , but renovated and with bright sunny rooms. Our room was quite large (especially by Germany standards), with windows overlooking Hildastrasse. It was not at all noisy. Parking can be an issue, but we found cheap overnight street parking right down the Hildastrasse. We had an enjoyable stay!
- Sorina (8/5): Great location, beautiful historical building - We stayed only one night, but enjoyed being close to everything downtown. The building looks really well preserved, and it is nice and modern inside. Our room on the third floor on the Hildastrasse side, was spacious (especially by German standards), bright and quiet. It had everything we needed. Parking can be a bother, but the front desk person was very helpful and we found cheap overnight parking on Hildastrasse. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

- jumket (8/5): Memories of 40 years ago - Stayed in this hotel with my brother who had lived there as a student 40 years ago as a student. It was then a hostel for overseas students studying at the local university. My room was spacious with a great view of Freiburg and the river. Very close to the centre but was quiet with sound facilities. My brother said the outside had not changed much but had gone through renovations clearly to upgrade to hotel standard. Breakfast, fine, staff, very helpful. Limited parking at the side of the hotel. You will need to leave keys with staff if not using the car.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel just outside the old city - We needed a hotel that we could walk to the old part of Freiburg. The room for 3 was very spacious and staff very helpful especially when we had a late night check-in.

- Verified traveler (6/5): meh - The hotel was convenient for getting into the old city. Everything in walking distance. WiFi was included but unusable in our room and very slow in the "lobby". If I visit Freiburg in the future I will look for another place.
- Kirsty (6/5): Nice enough hotel but useless wifi - The hotel was fine, it was right on one of the only main roads in Freiburg, so a bit noisy (although much less than I expected), but close to the old town and the forest so quite a good location really. Staff were on the whole friendly and accommodating. Room was a nice size, clean, with a huge bathroom (bath + shower). My only real problem was the wifi - technically yes, it is in every room, but good luck connecting to it. The modem is too weak (most of the time I could not connect in my room which was on the top floor) and the data plan is completely inadequate. As soon as everyone got home in the evening it was almost impossible to connect. I had a large amount of work to do while at the Schiller, and most of the time I had to walk down to the ground floor and sit in the courtyard outside just to get online, and even then it was incredibly slow (so slow I could not log into half of my services). At night once they closed up the front door I had to sit in the stairwell to get a signal. Worse still, I had to do a twitter session to the US at 1am in the morning one of my nights there, and found myself sitting in the stairwell yet again, just to connect. Completely inadequate. Until they upgrade their plan forget about staying here for work.
- christine (8/5): Nice area - The hotel is in a nice area easily accessible to the City Center and the tram. Right across the street is a nice bakery and a butcher shop where you can assemble a nice sandwich for about 2.5 Euros. Our room comfortably slept our family of 5.
- andrew (6/5): Hot in Freiburg - Weather was really hot +35deg and unfortunately no airconditioning in the room. Location was 5 mins from the old town so a perfect location. Limited parking so contact the hotel before arriving.
- MCJ (6/5): Convient location - We thought the hotel was convient location to the local shops and attractions. The hotel could definately use a sprucing up. The walls needed a good paint job, and our floors were dirty and dusty.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Welcoming handy place to stay - Friendly welcoming staff did all you would want to make you welcome. Simple tidy clean room (not hi-spec but perfectly good). Breakfast fine though not inspiring.
- Anja (6/5): wrong advertisement - The hotel room was ok. However,all the service that were suppose to be included were not available. I did not get any wilan/wifi connection in my room and there was no parking available, not even for a fee. I chose this hotel for the parking and free wilan/wifi, but I didn't get either.
- 116richw (8/5): A flying visit to a very well placed hotel - I stayed here with a couple of friends. The hotel is very well placed for the lovely bars and restaurants of Frieburg. Solomon, the owner is a really nice guy, joined us for a drink out in the patio area at the end of the evening. The staff are very friendly and the hotel very clean.
- drewwelch87 (6/5): Good enough... - Good enough hotel for a one night stay this year in June. Located a short walk from the main town and a stones throw from the River Rhine. Friendly staff and good drink service however brealfast was a miss there but the restaurant manager was very friendly and helpful. No air conditioning inside which didnt help during hot weather.
- rayn0c (8/5): Great Black Forest base - Family of 4 (two kids 2 and 5) stayed in nice, big room on the second floor. The room is basic, but adequate and spacious with nice view of Black Forest in the distance. The shower was not great. The building is old and in need of some care, but actually quite nice. The location is fantastic and 5 minute walk to the old town, which is lovely and has good vibe at night. Hotel has nice restaurant which is reasonably priced, just enquire whether your room is on side of restaurant which can be noisy at night depending on guests. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, they were always willing to assist with small requests. Parking needs to be reserved at a cost, but the street always had available free parking at night. I would really recommend this hotel if you are planning to do day trips to Black Forest.
- Dan (8/5): Great Hotel just outside the Old City - Nice, small hotel with great restaurant attached. It was outside the hassle of the touristy areas, yet close enough to easily walk to them. It was also near other great areas of Freiburg and the train station.
