Michele (10/5): Relaxing Historic Inn and Property - Beautifully renovated historic home that welcomes you from the moment you drive in. The property is vast and the immediate grounds are very well maintained with many activities to interest all-pool, hiking trails, and croquet. The public spaces androoms are well put together while maintaining their historic integrity. Grab a crab cocktail at the in-house bar and have dinner in any of the well appointed dining spaces. A great place to stay before/after a visit to Monticello.

Caroline (9/5): A wonderful place to collapse if you've spent the day diving deep into Monticello. - The continental breakfast was amazing; we especially loved the granola parfait and the blueberry bead and scones. Heating in the cottages - the law office and Merriweather - was spotty. We couldn't figure out how to make the "splits" work. But we really loved the beds and showers - and the fact that we were in historic, well-preserved cozy places. We were just sorry to have to leave before we'd had a chance to explore the grounds - so gorgeous in early spring.

Kristen (10/5): - The property is a 10-minute drive from Monticello, and close to Charlottesville, if you even feel the need to do any sightseeing off the property. On the property, there are trails leading to a small lake and the Rivanna River. The chef is amazing. The two dinners and two breakfasts were superbly prepared. The wine and whiskey lists are extensive. The property is quiet and all the rooms are lovely -from the dining areas (the library dining room was my favorite for dinner and the veranda was delightful for breakfast) to the unique bedrooms. The staff is fantastic. It has been quite awhile since I had my room prepped for the night with a cookie placed on my pillow, while I was having dinner. The best part about The Clifton is that it is dog-friendly. I highly recommend it.

Barry (8/5): Beautiful inn in a beautiful setting. - We stayed only one night so it's hard to fully evaluate the service, but overall we enjoyed our stay.The continental breakfast was so-so, yogurt parfait and a couple of muffins. We stayed in one of the garden rooms, which would have been great in a warmer season. The garden rooms are split level duplexes and we were on the lower level. This was a double-edged sword. The lower level had the better view from the private patio but we could hear the folks in the upper level walking across our ceiling. The a/c/heater was very noisy. I was surprised at this because it was one of the newer mini-split systems that are usually pretty quite. The only other thing that I would down check it for, and this is very minor, would be the lack of space for hanging clothes if you are going to be there more than a night or two. Probably won't go back to that area again, but I would stay in the Clifton if I did.
susan (8/5): Amazing Hotel- Less than Satisfactory Room - We loved the Clifton overall. The staff is friendly, helpful and eager to go out of their way to make guest's stay wonderful. We ate at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast and found the food exceptional. Our room, room 6, however, was right above the kitchen and we heard a tremendous amount of banging, doors closing and voices until after 11pm and beginning before 6am. As the hotel was not full, we were very surprised they would choose to put guests in this room when there were many other options available. Also, our shower ran extremely hot, so hot we were not able to stand under it. When we asked to have it fixed, the person told us how to monkey with the handle to get a bearable temperature, information we would have appreciated when we checked in. While the staff is accommodating, whoever does room assignments needs to rethink using this room when others are available. My son and I were on a college tour and looked forward to sleeping past 6am, something that was not possible due to the continuous noise. This detracted from our stay.
Nadia (10/5): - This charming hotel was situated outside of Charlottesville, super beautiful lawn with a chef’s garden, easy walking trail to the adjacent lake, and a pool with a hot tub. I really enjoyed staying here. The staff was very helpful. I was solo, but this would be ideal for a couple’s get away. They also have a hall, where I think they host weddings. Check it out!!

Aydan (8/5): Great Great Inn - except - This is a great B&B/Inn with an idyllic location. They have a great Breakfast/Dining area. The Room, The Beds are quite large, comfortable and luxurious. The room rate at $267 is in the luxury region for such lodging. I already told them though - to tell the customer they can "start" with a continental Breakfast of Parfait and Pastries comes way too short (and not so healthy) in this luxury. If they include breakfast in the Room Rate, they do not have to try to sell eggs for $10-$15 extra? Weird practice. They have great pastries, They make good tea in nice pots with excellent tea bags. So - how about a small tweak, that involves two eggs, some fruit salad, separate yoghurt if they want, butter and toast. Pastries optional. That will complete this.great Inn.

Susan (6/5): Came to enjoy fine dining but the restaurant close - Drove 2 hours to stay at hotel with fine dining. They didn't tell us that the restaurant was only open on weekends. We had to go without dinner since there was no other food in the whole place. So upset.

Mike (10/5): An incredible getaway. - Such a fantastic establishment to take you back to a different style of residence. We were so very fortunate to have visited during an incredible upgrade moment, we graciously accepted. The customer service, quality of food and unique transformation made this a memorable trip. Located just outside the density of downtown but just a short trip to be at the historic downtown mall. If you visit, take your time, use the amenities, and kick your feet up here.

Verified traveler (2/5): Not recommended - The room was small and almost no counter space in the bathroom sink. What immediately hit us, though, was the smell. Strong insecticide spray. There was a letter on the counter that apologized for this saying that 'stink bugs' were out of control and they sprayed both inside and outside to try to control them. We wanted to open the windows but there were no screens! Breakfast included: They give you a plate of food consisting of yogurt parfait and 3 tiny pastries exactly the same all 3 mornings. If you want eggs or oatmeal, they charge $12 - $15. The management (particularly the G.M.) was not very friendly at all and lacked any trace of Southern hospitality. But what really infuriated me was that after our last breakfast my husband asked me to check over our room bill with the woman at the front desk to see if we owe anything. I was standing right in front of her and just about to open my mouth and tell her we needed to check out. She COMPLETELY ignored me and looked over and past me and engaged with my husband instead, who had already sat down at a chair in the waiting area. I’m an Asian and my husband is a Caucasian. She started asking him where we’re headed today, etc. Wow! I stood there for a minute, flabbergasted and fuming, and told my husband, who was responding to her questions without realizing what had just happened, that I’d wait outside, and then I walked out. SO RUDE!!!! I’ll never stay here again and I DO NOT recommend it to other others!!

Steve (10/5): Great place to relax - Our check in experience was a bit clumsy -- they didn't seem to have our reservation but fortunately that was not a problem. I'd suggest you confirm reservations by calling the Inn. Beyond that we had a great experience -- friendly staff, personal tour of the facility, comfortable accommodations.
Julie M (8/5): Beautiful Setting - The inn is stunning when you drive up. The grounds are lovely and it's an active place with weddings on weekends. My only disappointment was my room was in a farmhouse a short drive away. The place was very nice but I had to drive to do anything at the main inn. I would stay again when I don't have to get up for work.
Lloyd (8/5): Beautiful but inconvenient - Beautiful setting and buildings in every way. Older buildings and rooms pose some issues, though - uneven floors making walking an adventure and no shelf in bathroom near the sink for any toiletries makes everything inconvenient. Staying in the house 1/4 mile from main house meant fighting school traffic right across the road in the morning to get to breakfast. Make sure you stay on the main grounds!

Judith (10/5): So lovely! - One of the loveliest places we have stayed. The most comfortable bed. Beautifully appointed suite. Common areas so welcoming. Fires burning in beautiful fireplaces. Tea time. Dinner was delicious. Continental breakfast was just right. We loved every moment there.
Allison (10/5): Beautiful old mansion by the river - Such a beautiful old space; everything is so beautifully and carefully maintained. The food is amazing, and bed was big and comfy. Gorgeous walk all around to the beautiful river! Our only complaint was that the pipes were extremely loud at the crack of dawn!
Verified traveler (6/5): Relaxing B&B close to C'ville Va. - Overall, a nice stay at a quaint B&B, good place to land after a day of winery tastings, take a nap and refresh before enjoying a very good dinner in their in house restaurant without having to get back on the road again. Room was spacious, excellent views of the surrounding scenery, bath was first rate. Room and food was (perhaps) a bit overpriced given the somewhat threadbare room appearance and good, but not spectacular, dinner. Drinks clearly used as a squeeze to make a couple extra bucks from a captive audience. Service was very good throughout the stay. In room TV was tiny, slightly bigger than laptop size. Room rate did not include a $30 "services" charge, not sure what that was for as, given there were no "services" (i.e., gym, spa, sauna, etc.). In general, restful, relaxing, certainly better than average, but clearly less than a knock your socks off type of experience.
