Guest Reviews
- Azadeh (8/5): - No closet. Would have preferred white sheets. Outdated room. Breakfast was limited. Host was very nice. Too expensive for this place. I was expecting a much nicer and well furnished room. Too much clutter everywhere on the property.
- Laurie (10/5): - Easy walk to the Boardwalk and Wharf. Friendly proprietors. Wonderful breakfast.
- Sebastian (10/5): - This bed and breakfast was a hidden gem. The owners Constantin and Adriana deserve all the praise they have gotten for setting up such a cozy bed and breakfast (with delicious breakfast included!) in such a prime location in Santa Cruz. We were just 2 blocks from the boardwalk, a few blocks to downtown, and there was free parking! I would stay here again and again
- Christopher (10/5): - This bed and breakfast is run by a nice retired couple who are very pleasant and enjoyable to talk to. Super friendly and with lots of stories to share. Clean comfortable facilities, nice breakfast and overall would highly recommend.
- Suzanne (10/5): - This property is a delightful historic gem very close to the Santa Cruz boardwalk. The owners are kind and generous and the home was quiet and peaceful. Art decorates the walls, bright windows open to the beautiful green spaces outdoors. We would recommend anyone visit when they are in town.
- Tammy (10/5): - I really loved staying here. Adriana and Constantine were wonderful hosts. They were kind, gracious, friendly and super helpful about the area. I hope to coma again soon!
- Apryl (10/5): - Loved the history of the home and property. Loved how quick of a walk it was to the beach.
- wei (10/5): - It’s very nice B&B with colonial style house. Full of memories. Breakfast is good.
- frances (8/5): - Nice and quaint.
Lovely owners
- Susan (8/5): - Definitely a unique property with a lovely couple that operates the facility. Shared bathroom but not an issue for us. Accommodated us when we had an extra person in our room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The B&B is in a historical house built in the 1800's. Our room was just beautiful - four-poster bed. Still had wifi and shower/toilet worked just fine.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The owners were very nice, the place was very nice, breakfast was excellent. Overall it was a excellent place to stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Staff was excellent. Breakfast was delicious. Room was adorable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Adrianna and Constantine’s extremely welcoming nature, paired with the peaceful ambiance and unique artwork all around us made our stay very memorable.
- Leo (10/5): - The room was great, with a lot of character. Adriana and her husband Constantin were both so friendly and nice, and made great conversation. Adriana is quite the artist and has many of her own works around the house and rooms and loves to talk about art, her travels, and more if she has the time. The location of the BnB also can't be beat - just a few minutes walk to the boardwalk, arcade, restaurants, and so much more, but still maintains a quiet atmosphere.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It was close to the beach and within walking distance of shops and restaurants. And the innkeeper was very kind. But communication was horrible. I left several messages that were unreturned regarding late check in. There were charges that couldn't be explained. Incorrect information on their website regarding a private bathroom. Had to very awkwardly ask about breakfast because it wasn't explained. Room and bathroom were not cleaned the three days we were there. Nor were the linens and towels ever changed or replaced.
Kind people but unacceptable service!
- Edward (10/5): - The Cliff was perfectly located in Santa Cruz by the boardwalk and downtown - the rooms were very comfortable - one small downside was the having to use a shared bathroom on the second floor - The breakfast was incredible and exactly what I was looking for - great B&B - use it - Adriana is a Peach!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfortable bed! Great location to beach and restaurants, nice breakfast and kind owners
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I liked everything especially the warmth of the owners.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean, comfortable. It's an old home and has modern amenities wedged in. Hosts were VERY accommodating and warm. Good, if simple, breakfast, but they left a spread of thoughtful things for my husband's breakfast, as he was leaving at about 5 a.m. to go do a half ironman. Off street parking, warm, accommodating hosts, clean, comfortable place close to the boardwalk/beach, but far enough to keep out of the noise. I'd stay again in a heartbeat.
- Rodel (10/5): A relaxing weekend at Cliff Crest. - Constantin and Adriana really made our stay more memorable. They were so gracious and made sure we were comfortable. The room, the beddings and most importantly, the bathroom were all clean with clean towels and tolietries. We requested a roll away bed for my son and they provided it. She even prepared our breakfast and it was set in the parlor where you can see the garden .
Definitely will come back and stay at this hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a new and pleasant experience. Would recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing stay, very charming. Perfect staging point for hiking in the area.
- WGO (6/5): - Operated by a wonderful couple who have worked hard to create a nice experience. However, they have come to a place in life that another operator should take over the bnb and do some serious upgrades and a lot of freshening up. This does not mean they don’t try but it’s time to make a change.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Terrific welcome and hospitality, Adriana. Muchas gracias
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The service was great and our hostess was so kind and sweet truly making our stay comfortable. She is a treasure and we enjoyed talking and spending time with her!
- Salo (10/5): - This is a destination BnB. A home full of history and art that comes alive by the work and spirits of two of the most memorable hosts I have come across, Adriana and Constantine. It's also a unique opportunity to get a real taste of real "California's Gold," sheltered under a 19th century Victorian mansion and the even older redwoods that stand in the garden (designed by the same person who designed Golden Park!) We hope to be back someday.
- Brian (10/5): Great service - I will start by saying we will definitely go back when in S.C. Adriana met us as soon as we arrived. She helped us with our bags and got us checked in. She showed us our room and made sure we were happy. Adriana went on to explain some of the history of the house and the area.
Later we met Constantin and he gave us suggestions on where to go for food and entertainment.
We returned to our room later that night. Our room had been turned down, curtains closed and prepped for us.
In the morning we woke to a great home cooked breakfast with fresh fruits, eggs, french toast, coffee and orange juice. Adriana made sure we had enough food. We ate breakfast while looking out into the yard shaded by redwood trees.
This is truly a unique experience. You won't find service like this even at those expensive hotels. The house is a historic landmark, so don't expect luxury. We felt welcomed and we're treated like family, not just guests. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and have tons of history in them. They are filled with antiques and Adriana's artwork. The beds were comfortable. If you are tired of being dissapointed by over priced hotels then try something different. You won't be disappointed.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Read this - Very disappointed. Small room with spiders, loud air vent in bathroom, dirty floor, lousy breakfast. All that cost almost $400. Waste my money and ruin my vacation. I wish I’ve read other people reviews first before coming
- Bbs (8/5): - Great bed and breakfast, kind people, so close to the beach and pier! We walked to the pier for dinner after checking in and even had time for a couple of rides in the boardwalk before walking back for bedtime.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Great location. Parking was available but inconvenient because it seemed like it was available for more than the hotel guests. Yes this house is old and has some charm but the cost is way too high based on the fact that the beds are really old and uncomfortable, since there was no AC a ceiling fan or floor fan would of been nice. The owner was very nice but think the cost wasn’t worth the stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cliff crest - Cozy and good hospitality. Interesting house and art.
- Cerri (10/5): Lovely retreat - Constantine and Adriana were exceptionally sweet and accommodating. The location was a close walk to the beach and boardwalk, the bed was really cozy, the windows were gorgeous, and breakfast was great. Would recommend.
- Quang (8/5): Artistic, colonial Latin America - The service and hospitality provided by the owners, Adriana and Constantine, are excellent. If you love artistic, classic colonial setting, this place is for you. The only drawback for our room is a very loud bathroom fan and blocked fireplace.
- Kristin (8/5): Cute little B&B - Greeted right away and felt like I was visiting an old friend or family. Room was nicely done and breakfast downstairs was wonderful.
- Megan (10/5): Great service - the owners had to be the most hospitable hosts I've ever met. The home was beautiful and interesting decor (the wife's paintings are all over the walls which is cool) and was a less than 10 minute walk from both the boardwalk and downtown. Would definitely stay again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The breakfast was nice and was to order. The host was very personable.
- Shannon (10/5): - The hosts were incredibly sweet and the location was amazing! We will absolutely stay there again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Old - Not updated and over advertised with old photos
- Verified traveler (6/5): Decent place..walking distance to everything. - Nice room close to beach and downtown shops great staff tons of history. Overpriced though..
- Verified traveler (2/5): Hoarder's Haven - This was the most cluttered, unclean, dilapidated hotel I have ever stayed at. Describing the experience is painful, so I will not go into all of the details. There were spiders in all of the ceiling corners- I think they were wondering why we were invading their space! If Uncle Fester had popped up to give us a new light bulb, it would not have been shocking (pun intended). I will stay far away from the beach next time in a chain hotel.
- Karl (10/5): First time staying at a B and B - The owners were wonderful made us feel at home, I also had family and friends come visit and they welcomed them just as they did me. I would defiantly stay there again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Charming Victorian in Santa Cruz - Tucked away on Cliff Street, parking is available in the rear--not obvious from the street. This place wins the prize for the most knick knacks (sp?) in every room on every wall. It has a certain old world charm. Signing in was a little ackward....asked me to sign in a book with my address, credit card...like I'd stepped into 1970. The staff is very gracious, however.
- Jason (4/5): Very Disappointed - Nothing like I imagined. Very uncomfortable room
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great. Wish we had more time to spend in room. During the summer, parking would be a nightmare in the underground garage.
- Tricia (8/5): Great for a little getaway weekend! - We had never stayed at a B&B before so this was a new experience. We opted for the king bed and attached bathroom and it was a very quiet and peaceful stay. Close to the boardwalk (3 blocks; can be seen from the front of B&B) and the wharf. Walks on the beach are easy to come by here. The friendliness of Adriana was by far the best we'd received. You receive keys to your room and to the front door so we felt free to stay out late and enjoy dinner on the wharf. Bike riding along the coast on the trail was awesome!
- Al (4/5): True old fashioned B&B - Very old and tired. Three blocks from Santa Cruz Pier and Amusement park. Noisy. Too expensive for what it offers.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Never again. - ROACHES!!!! I was so grossed out I couldn't wait to leave. Was trying to find somewhere else to stay, but couldn't find anything close enough. Very disappointed.
- EU traveller (2/5): Extortionate!! False advertising!! - Wrong room & additional charges on scrutiny; however when queried were then rectified. Grubby and tired room. Sea view if you hung out of the window!! Close to boardwalk - but very noisy!! No sleep!! Shared bathroom not as requested - unhygienic! TV/DVD - archaic - facilities severely lacking! Qwerky B&B - breakfast & host only redeeming factor - overall poor value for money & experience extremely disappointing.
- Laura (8/5): - For Fourth of July celebration and weekend getaway it was perfect!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Best place to stay in Santa Cruz! - My husband and I had a lovely stay. The home is beautiful and easy walking to the beach, boardwalk and pier. The Empire room has a super comfortable four poster bed and fireplace. It is in the front first level of the home, but very quiet. Host and hostess are wonderful! With the small exception of a breakfast that is "just okay" for a B&B, this is a fabulous place and we would definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - quaint, old fashioned, nice owners. close to beach. Not as clean as I would prefer.
- David (8/5): very nice B&B - Very welcoming bed and breakfast hotel very near attractions
- Verified traveler (2/5): Dirty! Over priced! - If you don't mind using communal soap in the tub, then go for it! The owners of this place should be ashamed for charging so much! I had to ask for towels, a garbage can and cups. When I was handed glasses, they also gave me a glass bottle with water that was re-filled with a screw-on cap. Really!?! Was the water not safe to drink? I couldn't get a plastic bottle of water of my own? The pillows were huge and did not have zip-off covers, so I'm sure they have never been washed. In the tiny tub, I couldn't avoid rubbing up against the shower curtain that had mold all over it. The room was hot and there was no fan to cool down. The TV was an old 8 inch one from the early 90's. There was only a handful of stations, and the WiFi was so slow that we couldn't even use it. All of the rugs on the floor are old and dirty. We didn't even get toiletries. The "private" bathroom for the room with the king bed with a single bed was across the hall in which others used it all night long. I bumped into other guests during the night while in my nightgown. Embarrassing! I didn't even want to look these people in the eye during breakfast. The owners of this place have such a low-level of cleanliness that I had NO appetite for eating their food. This place is also on one of the 2 main roads out from the Boardwalk, so it was noisy with cars and foot-traffic until 2 am.Spend your hard-earned money somewhere else...anywhere else.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Filthy! Noisy! - Filthy! We were to use soap from previous guest, moldy shower curtains, huge pillows that do not have zip covers=not washed and someone else's facial scrub. YUCK! Our "private bathroom" was across the hall and other guests used it all night long. Strangers saw me in my thin nightgown as I crossed to the bathroom. Room was hot-no fan. The single-pained windows faced the street where a parade of cars passed for over an hour at midnight when the Boardwalk closed. Then we listened to young people pass by for another 2 hours. I had to ask for glasses and towels as none were provided. Since these people's level of clean is so low, we skipped breakfast altogether. Tiny, old TV, slow WiFi, limited parking, uncomfortable beds and WAY OVER PRICED! Stay away! I feel like I was deceived and I want my money back!
