Guest Reviews
- L1482HQdanielf (10/5): The Best B&B near the Battlefield - My wife and I LOVED this bed and breakfast for a quick weekend getaway from nearby Maryland. If TripAdvisor would allow me to leave 6 stars for the very pinnacle of experiences, Swope Manor would get it! Everything from the historic building to the casual but engaging staff to the magnificent breakfast and wine (both included!) to the EXQUISITE bathroom (large jetted soaking tub AND double-headed shower!!!) was truly amazing. The best part was the sit-down breakfast served each morning at a communal table, freshly made and delicious and even sensitive to food allergies and dietary restrictions. Truly an amazing stay. We'll be back soon! Bruce, Hannah, and Sierra are phenomenal staff!
This place is also right in the middle school f a very walkable and charming area full of shops and restaurants and cafes and taverns. You won't need to drive anywhere!
- Louis (10/5): A very enjoyable stay - Warm and friendly staff, very nice rooms Great location
- Mary (10/5): It was a special time for our family from Denmark. It was their 50th wedding celebration and our treat to spoil them - It was beautiful and so well maintained….ALL THE EMPLOYEES WERE KIND AND VERY ATTENTIVE. JOANNE OR JONI WAS FUNNY AND SO CARING. OUR FAMILY FROM DENMARK HAVE NEVER STAYED IN ANYPLACE SO BEAUTIFUL Quiet, cozy beautiful

- Y7003BHanthonys (10/5): A charming 1860s gem - Our stay at the Swope Manor Bed & Breakfast in Gettysburg was exceptional from start to finish. The location is ideal—just a short, easy walk to shops, restaurants, and the historic sites that make Gettysburg so special.
The manor itself is absolutely beautiful, decorated with elegant antiques that perfectly capture the charm and authenticity of the 1860s. It truly feels like stepping back in time, yet with every modern comfort. The Gettysburg Room was especially lovely—the spacious layout and the comfortable soaking tub were a perfect touch after a long day of touring the battlefield.
Breakfast each morning was excellent, freshly prepared, and served in a gracious, period-style dining room. Innkeeper John was warm, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable about both the manor and Gettysburg’s history, adding an extra layer of richness to our stay.
We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Swope Manor is a true gem, and we look forward to returning on our next visit to Gettysburg!
- 528sunshine (8/5): A great place to stay in Gettysburg - Our recent stay here was our first and mostly positive. We chose this place because of proximity to walking around town (like I’m sure many do) plus the option of staying in a historic and homey place unlike a hotel. I’d read that the parking was in a public (pay) lot and we found it easier to park and walk instead of the drop off then park, but that’s a personal preference and the option to drop off is wonderful. The lot is about a block behind the inn and a short walk.
We were greeted by three people on our way in and immediately felt welcomed. We were given a tour of the bottom floor with explanations of how things worked, what we had access to, asked if we had any food allergies and when breakfast is served.
We were taken upstairs to our room and shown things there. The Swope manor was, for us, within walking distance of everything we wanted to see in town and then some. The weather was perfect which certainly helped. When we returned for the evening there were people both inside and outside having conversations. It was a beautiful evening so my husband and I got a glass of wine courtesy of the hosts and sat outside on the patio which has room for many to sit. In addition to wine and beer there were homemade dark chocolate chip cookies available as well as coffee and tea.
I still don’t know how many staircases there are and it’s easy enough to get lost if you’re new there but it’s decorated in period style with each room having its own unique flavor.
The only negative for us was the room we were in, the Gettysburg suite, is in the front of the house which due to being in a city environment was busy. And loud. The entire night. Then there was the fire station that’s very close and the alarm went off a few times also. Needless to say we didn’t have the restful night that others staying there did due to their rooms being in the back of the house.
The breakfast the next morning was so fun, having someone serve us in almost a formal way. We were able to meet others and ask them about where they were from, etc. Fresh fruit, a muffin of sorts and quiche was the breakfast of the day. Plus a choice of juice and coffee or tea. I chatted with the morning staff who served us breakfast and they were so friendly and helpful and didn’t seem rushed for me to leave them alone 😅
The loud noises at night was definitely the worst part about the visit, especially since we live in a very rural area which probably affected us more so just be aware of the noise if you choose the Gettysburg suite otherwise I’m sure you’ll have a great time. The shower in that room was amazing though!
- Sherri (10/5): Had a great visit like every year, folks are nice and the food is delish! - Everything Nothing
- Steven (10/5): - The Swope Manor was everything we hoped for, including location, cleanliness, food quality, and courteous service. The mansion is great to stay in, and its central location makes it perfect for exploring. If I get back to Gettysburg, I'm staying at The Swope Manor.
- Lisbeth (6/5): - The building itself is old and has a lot of beautiful furniture. Our rooom was clean and inn keeper was friendly when we checked in. The overall experience was disappointing. Our room was in the front of the building and there was traffic noise all night long. The shutters on the windows were old and warped. They were hard to close and did not totally block the light from outside. There were no curtains.
There was no closet in the room and only 4 hooks on a wall for use.. Old extension cords held multiple items plugged in and I wondered if they were a fire hazard. There were no side tables next to the chair or love seat in the room, nowhere to put down a drink, etc. Plugging in cell phones, etc. to charge was challenging. A designated charging station would have been appreciated. The televison did not work correctly and there were no instruction on what to push on the remote to get a display.
The bathroom was very pretty. The shower head was very nice and we enjoyed the bodyjets. The room was advertised as having a steam shower, it was not working at the time of our stay. The innkeeper never mentioned it.
The towels reeked of fabric softener.
When they say breakfast is served at 8:30, believe them. I anticpated a longer window of time with breakfast items available. Other B & B’s we have stayed at serve breakfast for at least 1 1/2-2 hour. Be there at 8:30! Along with a small muffin there was a small bowl of fruit. There are no additional continental
- Joan-Ellen (10/5): -
- Gary (10/5): - The staff was amazing!! From the time we walked in the door until checkout they were friendly and attentive to our needs. The Swope Manor is bright and inviting. The breakfasts were amazing and our fellow guests were fun to chat with. We had a great experience and would highly recommend this place for your stay in Gettysburg.
- Daniel (6/5): - We were on top floor, and were denied a move though vacant rooms were available.
No assistance available for luggage.
In town for a wedding and needed an iron, promised but it did not get delivered and attendant could not be found on property and did not answer or return call.
Parking was a block away.
Minimal space for checkin-checkout vehicle loading and unloading.
Rooms were nice, clean, wine and drinks available, breakfast was delightful.
Great location in center of town.
Soft music at mealtime would be nice.
Historical speaker at breakfast added value.
Very nice and maintain property. Overall 4/5
- Nicole (10/5): Great bed and breakfast - We had a great time, the staff was amazing and so very helpful. We loved our stay and will be back!
- Ernest (10/5): - Very comfortable stay.
- Susan (10/5): - This place is the best. We stay here every chance we get.
- Diana Xinhua (9/5): Great town full of history and great stay at the beautiful manor - Location , staff, elegance of the premises and great breakfast and ambiance Maybe get some heaters as needed as the time we stayed the weather changed and some rooms are quite chilly feeling
- Luke (10/5): - Great location and very clean and nicely kept. Thank you.
- Alicia ,or Larry (10/5): - Best B&B I have ever stayed at!! All rooms are beautiful and decorated in civil war period colors and fixtures. Staff are excellent and go out of there way so you enjoy your stay!!
- Michele (8/5): -
- Ken (9/5): - Very clean and great service.
- Terri (10/5): Awesome!!! - I don’t have enough words to describe just how beautiful this gorgeous bed and breakfast manor really is! Our room was elegantly decorated with antiques throughout and yet it was inviting and comfortable! The bathroom had a large jacuzzi tub as well as a shower! There weren’t many other guests so we checked out the other rooms and all were just as amazing! The breakfasts were just brilliant! We felt completely pampered! I look forward to a return visit!
- kimberly (10/5): - Beautiful, historic place. Highly recommend staying herr
- Wanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thomas (10/5): - The breakfast was wonderful.
- Millers499 (10/5): Historic Inn - conveniently located - Inn was very historic and the host gave us a tour on arrival. The room was spacious and well appointed. The location was convenient to activities. The yard area was well kept. Everyone was very friendly. We would definitely stay here again in the future!
- Charles (9/5): Superb -
- Melissa (9/5): Comfortable Gettysburg Gem! - This cozy and comfortable gem was amazing! Breakfast was outstanding! Everything was comfortable and clean. This was our first time ever at a bed and breakfast and needless to say, it exceeded our expectations. Came for a weekend trip but stayed for the pleasing 1860’s aesthetics and staff who felt like family! We will definitely be back soon! Many thanks to all xoxo Parking isn’t included; however, there was a parking garage adjacent to the property. $18 for a 24 hour period, just an FYI.
- Natalee (10/5): - Hosts were terrific. Building is historic and convenient to everything. Food was great and they had free beer and wine! What's not to love. We hope to go back when it's decorated for Christmas
- Jeffery (10/5): - Location, location, location! Within walking distance of the downtown and minutes from the battlefields.
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Orvin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Samuel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paula (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast every morning was great. I'm a vegetarian and didn't mention that so my fault but fruit, eggs, muffin, juice, coffee - all great! The backyard/deck is lovely and a great place to relax and have a glass of wine. Parking was conveniently located; you just have to pay for it. Our bed was very high, which was fine but I can see where some people might struggle with it.
- Justin (4/5): - Joanne was kind and welcoming as was her husband. The place was clean and the bed was comfortable. I don’t eat pork or beef. The inkeeper, Bruce, was reluctant to accommodate my dietary requirements. Ultimately he did but not without an attitude. Also,
- Ferris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marija (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful and clean. The whole experience was very enjoyable!
- Louis (10/5): - Our stay at The Swope Manor was magnificent! What’s a COMFORTABLE BED! Have not been that rested, comfortable and slept as late in years! Breakfast was delectable, with fresh fruit, French toast and sausages that left us ready to tackle the day. The property is beautifully maintained, with each room lovingly appointed, and again…THE BED (chefs kiss). We have an EV, so driving down from NY we were a bit concerned with keeping her battery full, but there was a charging station in the public parking garage right behind the property. The very convenient location of the manor made it possible for us to walk to the shops, restaurants and bars; necessitating driving only when touring the battlefields. The proprietors have thought of everything to make guests feel welcome and we would be thrilled to stay there again and again!
- amber (10/5): - Beautiful property and delicious food. In town, able to walk to all the sites. Friendly staff.
- Britta (4/5): - The property is in a great location.
- Camper01177008630 (10/5): Exceptional! - Beautiful bed and breakfast. Spotless, not a speck of dirt or dust in such a lovely environment. Breakfast was delicious. Service was top-notch. Wonderful location, able to walk all over town right out the front door. Will definitely stay again!
- Cody (10/5): Exceptional -
- GrandTour06587792391 (10/5): Great place to stay - The place is beautiful and the staff is very friendly and responsive. They pretty much let you have free rein of the house as if it’s yours. Providing beer , wine, sodas and cookies. Lots of beautiful rooms to hang out in and enjoy. We did not take advantage of the breakfast every morning and probably should have but I can’t say how it was except that it smelled awfully good.! There are no refrigerators in the rooms so you have to use the one downstairs in the kitchen just have to label your things I guess
The room was great. The mattress was very comfy. Could’ve used another trashcan in the room beside the smaller one in the bathroom that was the only one in the room, but other than that, we found it to be very accommodating.. overall the experience was great and certainly a great location where we could walk to anywhere we wanted to go
You will have to pay for parking in the back for our Friday night through Sunday at cost about 36 bucks
- Craig (8/5): The staff was very accommodating and we loved the library and the Lincoln room to stay in - It was a very nice setting . Very nice atmosphere and very clean The fire trucks going off all night ..
- 211sandieh (10/5): Great experience - Doesn’t get any better than this. The hosts are gracious, the inn is comfortable and beautifully decorated. I especially enjoyed the fireplace in our room. Breakfast is delicious and you couldn’t ask for a better location. We’ve stayed at Swope Manor twice and I know we will again.
- L5442BGbrianb (10/5): A great inn, in Gettysburg - Having visited Gettysburg many times, we have walked by the Swope Manor many times, the inn always looks inviting. The inn is located in downtown Gettysburg and is a short distance from the battlefield (we walked to the national park and visitor center, but we are walkers), We were greeted by Joanne and immediately made to feel at home. The room and bed was comfortable (our room had no closet). Breakfast is served family style and was very good. Coffee/tea and hot chocolate is always available and fresh baked cookies in the afternoon. Common areas are open for all to use. A parking garage is nearby for payed parking. I would recommend the inn for a getaway we plan on returning in the future.
- Linda (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was delicious. We met the own who was very nice. We loved how close it was to the square!
- Amanda (10/5): - Beautiful Inn and the staff was amazing! Will definitely be back.
- Ewashko (4/5): Disappointing - Fireplace only electric.

- Ann (9/5): Great place to stay. - The inn was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Comfortable bed and room. Friendly staff.
Breakfast was delicious. Great location
- Karen (10/5): Great Stay at Gettysburg - Everything was exceptional. It had a very welcoming and home-comfort atmosphere.
- Dianna (10/5): Wonderful weekend and definitely will be staying here again! - Great location, beautiful historic house, friendly staff, great food, nicely decorated for Christmas It was a little noisy from street traffic and voices
- Chuck (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charles (10/5): So wonderful booked same room again for Remembrance Day next year - Staff were wonderful, food was Michelin quality, and the house, room, and location could not be better Unfortunately the WiFi was sub par added to the over all bad cell reception Gettysburg has it made electronic use difficult
- Christopher (10/5): - Perfect at the end of the main strip in Gettysburg. Beautiful property.
- Andrykovitch (10/5): We absolutely loved our stay at Swope Manor. - Our room was clean, food was delicious and the location was perfect. Nothing
- Megan (10/5): - We had a wonderful relaxing trip. The staff were friendly and had great suggestions. Breakfast was delicious.
- W9828AUzoer (10/5): Best b&b in town - Very cozy, laid back, almost air b&b feel with the 24.7 access to a Keurig and tea, homemade cookies. Amazing bed. Other guests kept quiet it doesn’t feel crowded. Nice bathroom and tub. Great location for walking to restaurants and shops. Short drive to everything. Nice library and fire pit
- Gerald (8/5): - Everything was very good except it would have been helpful to have directions for the tv. The parking was an unexpected charge. Room was lovely and very clean. Enjoyed the sherry and chocolates.
- Herr (5/5): Passable - They were not flexible with the time for having breakfast. nor could you choose what to have. They did not clean away wineglasses etc for two days...
Beds and pillows were not comfortable.
- CHRISTOPHERTIMOTHY (8/5): - Very quaint and special. Our only issue has nothing to do with the property but the town allowing 18 wheelers to go right through the middle of the square. Not only is it a nuisance while walking the town, but noise all night long.
- Austin (9/5): Superb - Property was beautiful and centrally located.
- Tina (10/5): Delicious food, great location, clean and welcoming - Adorable Nothing
- Nalley (6/5): Wouldn't stay there again - The location Bed was hard like a board...first morning a staff member was nasty....also special diet not honored first breakfast...bathroom had mold smell & parking is $18 a day not 10
- Passport47833380233 (10/5): We love the Swope! - We stay here every year and it's always a wonderful experience. Bruce and his crew are awesome. Great location to walk to shops and our favorite restaurants. We purchase a 7 day parking pass to the garage right behind the Swope. Very convenient. Beautiful home, comfortable rooms. We wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.
- Angelo (8/5): Very good -
- Kelley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Quinn (8/5): Perfect place to stay for a historical vibe - Very comfortable room and gorgeous shared spaces. Staff is very nice and a guide stopped by at breakfast to give more history of the street! Large community tables for breakfast. We are not super social in the morning
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean! Rooms were beautiful. Beds very comfortable. Excellent quality sheets and towels. Nothing!
- Sherri (10/5): Here for the Apple Fest and history of Gettysburg - Authenticity, the rooms are clean, breakfast is always delicious Everything!
- Jeff (8/5): - Very convenient to downtown Gettysburg and close to shops and dinning.
- Cathy (10/5): A perfect place to spend a few days relaxing and getting immersed in history. - Very convenient and walking distance to shops, bars and food I have no complaints
- Ernest (10/5): - Great property with great location. Only a few minor issues - we were in the Dorothy room up front and the street noise went on all night. Also, there is AC but it is central AC for the whole Inn and our room got a little warm.
- Christie (10/5): - We had the whole place to ourselves. The rooms are beautiful. The bed was comfy . Staff is superior. We will be back!
- William (10/5): - Staff are helpful
- Frederic (10/5): - Beautifully appointed in 1863 style. Terrific library. Walking distance to restaurants and shopping.
- Meltowles (10/5): We Love the Swope!! - Why anyone would give this place a bad review is beyond me.. the Swope Manor is AWESOME.. we have stayed here twice in the Gettysburg Suite.. Bed and pillows are so comfy and the sunk in tub is so nIce to relax in after spending a day walking.. David, the chef is so awesome!! His food is phenomenal, the pecan muffins are divine!! Coffee bar downstairs with fresh baked cookies .. cannot beat this place. Plus you can walk to most anything .. we love it !!
- Amy (8/5): Overall was a beautiful stay in a beautiful home that was very clean. - Stunning property and very clean We were three to a room which meant our daughter slept on the pull out couch. Although our room was great, the pull out couch not so much. When they know there is three in the room and therefore the pull out will be utilized it would be nice if they left out a pillow and perhaps a quilt for use on that bed. My daughter had to use a not so comfortable throw pillow and throw blanket that was on the back of the couch that was not very warm. So a proper pillow and blanket for that bed would have been great.

- John (8/5): Great location and convenient to downtown - Loved location and the inn was wonderfully kept Entry door after hours has no light and is very dark
- Michelle (10/5): Perfect historical accommodations in a very historical place - Historical property; antique furnishings Carrying luggage up and down stairs
- Theo (10/5): - The property is beautiful and well kept. I wish my room, the Chamberland, had a more comfortable sitting area and larger TV.
- Timothy (5/5): Room was not vacuumed after last occupancy. Found a bra on the floor of last occupant on the third m - Location great. The breakfast was ok. The muffins were always too hard, wait staff dressed in way too casual clothing, third morning we had no juice and had to ask for it and tea water not hot.

- Kristy (10/5): - Beautiful Manor!! So clean and pristine.
