Guest Reviews
- Todd (10/5): - When I checked in on a Monday to stay 4 nights at the Colton Motel in Gettysburg October 2025. I asked if I could stay and pay for the 5th night. She said as of right now they are booked up for that night. she said there might be one cancellation in the next day or two?. if there is I would get first dibs. Well there was a cancellation and I got to stay another night. The staff went out of there way to accommodate me. The room was very clean & user friendly. There was 3 very good sitdown or carryout restaurants and many attractions all within a block of the Motel, an easy walk. The next time I come to Gettysburg I will be staying at the Colton Motel.
- Eileen (6/5): - Safe
- Andrew (4/5): Bad experience at the Colton Inn in Gettysburg, Pa - First this is not the Hotel we booked nor the type of room. Manager of the original booking hotel sent us down the street to there other property. Upon arrival we saw that we did not have a room with a queen bed like we had booked.(2 full beds). The room smelled of something other than cleaning products. Went to use the sink and the faucet was very loose. Went to use the shower and that faucet was loose also. The toilet was not bolted down. Mold in the corners of the shower. Their was a lot of dust on ledges, tops of door moldings, pictures, mirrors and top of heat register. Mirrors looked like they used a dirty rag to clean. Lamp shades were busted. beds and pillows were not comfortable. Furniture was worn and scratched. Front window was dirty and lacked a screen. Very dated decor. No microwave in room. Parking lights visible but not working at night. After taking off my shoes my white socks tuned black from the dirty floor. Went on line and found the room they put us in was $13.00 a night cheaper than our original booking. The manager still charged us full booking price I checked Hotels.com and found that the room we originally booked was still showing as available.. We feel that this was a classic bate and switch.
- Michael (10/5): - Clean, newly renovated, quick check in. Reasonable price.
- Michael (8/5): - The price was great! Loved the free parking and closeness to everything. Our tv did not work and the internet is slow. Not deal breakers though because I’m not a big tv person.
- Anne (4/5): - Nothing worked including electrical outlets and toilet. The lock on the door was broken, the furniture handles were broken, there was no hair dryer. The shampoo was in tiny plastic packets which are impossible to open. Front desk person was nice and she gave us a good recommendation for dinner.
- Carol (10/5): - Parking was easy. Many attractions within walking distance. Nice restaurants and bars within walking distance. Friendly, professional staff. Clean room. Quiet at night
- Kristian (10/5): - Right in the heart of town
- Amy (10/5): - Friendly staff, very welcoming, nice clean room
- ROMEO (10/5): - Nice place
- Christine (8/5): Quick overnight stay - Very old motel, but clean. Bed was good, bathroom was well maintained. Could use some updates, but otherwise decent for resting after walking all day. Close to most things in town. Friendly staff.
- Vincent (8/5): good value - staff was considerate, bed was comfortable, bathroom had been renovated. furniture needs an upgrade
- Candy (10/5): - The Colton is by no means a luxury resort but we love to come here because the staff is amazing. The room is always clean and comfortable.
- crystal (6/5): - Didn't have to drive much during our stay most of the time we walked..... Motel beds need replaced the bed was really uncomfortable and need extra pillows we left real early do no not able to sleep think we left lije 1am and we only live about 2-3 hours away.
- Jean (8/5): BASICALLY OK, but... - All was basically good, except the toilet was non-functional. I request the same room each visit, but this was the first time I encountered a problem. Staff was very quick to come and plunge, but the problem is much more significant. I will request the same room next time but only if they assure me the toilet has been fixed. WIFI/Internet on my first night was unstable but improved later. Some of this was probably not their problem. Overall I'll go back and hopefully the toilet will have been replaced or fixed.
- Nancy (10/5): - Room was clean...smell good. Area was quiet. Staff was friendly. Was within walking distance.
- Veronica (8/5): - I was visiting for a work function about 20 minutes away and ended up getting in like midnight instead of 8 pm due to delays and traffic. The Coltob staff made sure I could get in the room and that was such a relief after a long day of headaches...the room is basic, but functional. The breakfast pastry and coffee were a nice perk. This is just minutes from Gettysburg and in the downtown area with shops and restaurants.
- Jacqui (4/5): Okay for a motel 🏨 - Front desk person wasn’t at desk, we had to call to let her know there were 3 people waiting to check in.
So called breakfast wasn’t ready.
AC was loud, Beds were okay but there was plastic under the sheets so made us sweat 😓
Bathroom clean, shower 🚿 worked.
I guess it wasn’t terrible for the great price of $109 tax included.
- Geraldine (8/5): - Very comfortable beds. Shower excellent! Wifi and tv were difficult to navigate.
- Edward (2/5): Last place I would stay in the area for sure. - It’s a last place stay at best, and the ratings must be fake. Only stayed because it was 1 night, but actually thought about sleeping in my van…would have been better on my back. Other rooms look to be long time stayers and that was not expected.
- Kevin (10/5): - We always stay at the Colton when we go to Gettysburg. The place is always clean, service is great, and the staff is so nice. The location is also great- just far enough removed from the nightlife part of town, but still a quick walk away from it and the battlefield! We cant wait to see y'all again next year!
- Claude (10/5): - Location, location and location. I've used the Colton for years. It isn't fancy but it is in the perfect spot for our needs.
- David (8/5): - The Colton is a low end, low cost motel in Gettysburg, but it is quiet and comfortable. I stay here primarily because of the location.
- Mark (6/5): - Great location for those visiting the National Park and Battlefields. Basic room, no frills. Adequate for single traveler.
- tracey (8/5): - The smell of skunk weed was overwhelming but after turning the air on and opening the door, the smell was less terrible.
The door had clearly been kicked in at some point. The furniture, microwave, and fridge all has a ton of wear but for what it was, it was fine.
We brought our own coffee pot, blow dryer, blankets, and towels. I suggest you do the same.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Weekender - Hotel was clean. TV very small . No electric in bathroom for hair dryer or curling iron. No hair dryer . Air conditioning was very very loud. Poorly lite room.
Coffee was good.
- Danielle (8/5): - Great staff and location! Will stay there again.
- Jessica (2/5): - Upon arrival there was a police raid happening in the room right next to us. The police officer said they frequent this motel. There are some that actually live at the motel. My child was terrified and we tried to get a refund since we literally checked in 5 min prior. The owner gave us a terrible time about it, then after the police officer walked into the office while I was on the phone with him he reluctantly agreed. He wanted to charge me a $25 fee. I fought that and got my money back and left immediately! Also, the room was dingy and smelled. There was a dirty ac unit in the window. The woman at the front desk was nice though.
- Betsy (10/5): - The motel WAS run down, HOWEVER we were looking for a central location in walking
- Michelle (10/5): - I have stayed several times. The staff are very helpful and kind. Its a good place to stay if you are wanting an affordable trip to Gettysburg within walking to a lot of attractions.
- William (10/5): - The staff was very friendly and efficient with a quick and easy check-in. I have read many of the reviews. For the people complaining, I am uncertain what guests were expecting for such a reasonable rate right in the middle of the historical area. The accommodations were nice with a comfortable bed, nice shower, working refrigerator, simple breakfast, and nice TV. The pool was relaxing and the area was quiet enough for a good night's rest. We were able to take a nice walk to get into the center of town to enjoy history, food, and shopping. For a family on a budget, this place worked out just fine.
- Sara (10/5): - It’s affordable, clean and convenient and within walking distance of things it’s not the top of the line place but why pay a lot of money for a room your barley going to be in as long as it’s clean and no bed bed bugs im good everything was nice and I will definitely be staying here again as I have every year I come to Gettysburg
- Robin (4/5): Stay somewhere else - Bed was hard as a rock. The back of the tv remote was held on with a sticky bandaid. The internet was very spotty. The toilet tank lid musymt have broken and the replacement one was thewrong size
- Gillian (4/5): - The property was dirty, stains on the bedding, room was not completely clean. There weren't even any vending machines to get a snack. I would not recommend or stay again!!
- Barry (10/5): Hard as a rock chair - My stay at the motel was fine except the single chair in the room was child size and was as hard as a rock to sit on. I mentioned this condition to the motel staff and they would see that the chair would get replaced.
- Jennifer (10/5): Would stay again - Clean comfortable
- Lynette (8/5): - The pool had clean water and was refreshing. Our room was acceptable. We realized that our bathroom window(ground floor and big enough for a person to get through) had no working latch and was open slightly. Too late to report for office to be open. However, reported in am. Outside of it, lots of cigarette butts and little snippets of trash on ground. Not a clean environment. Provided some packaged muffins and good coffee in am. Felt safe here and walked to Crepe Cottage for breakfast.
- Kevin (4/5): - Less than stellar.
- Jennie (8/5): - We would stay there again. The location was superb walking distance to many shops and the historical party of Gettysburg. It wasn't a for star hotel, but it was decent and as stated previously, we would stay there again.
- Daniel (4/5): - This is a low quality motel, but one should not be surprised given the price and reviews. If you go in with the proper expectations, you shouldn't be too disappointed. The location can't be beat. In the evening we walked across the street to the spot where Lincoln gave his famous address as fireflies danced around us. In the morning we walked a block or so further and stood at the Angle and looked across the fields where Pickett's charge ended the battle (and countless lives). My children enjoyed the pool on a day that broke 100 degrees. They also enjoyed the ease to nearby eateries and ice cream shops. To repeat, though, the room was low quality: run down and minimally cleaned. It smelled of stale cigerettes (despite it's non smoking status). I’ve never complained about a mattress until today as these were like cardboard wrapped in crunchy plastic. The staff were kind and the other guests friendly. I would likely visit again if only here for an evening. I would just spend as little time possible in the room and ignore the ghost stories told by the passing tour guides.
- George (8/5): - Staff very helpful think they deserve a raise
- Ronald (10/5): - This is value for the money. Older? Yes. A bit rough around the edges? Yes. But location here is great, within walking distance along the main drag. Fancy? Certainly not but the rooms were clean, the water hot when needed, the AC was perfect, the pool was clean as well. The staff, top marks for working with what they have. And that by no means is meant as an insult. Book a room at this old school motel, save some dollars, enjoy your stay.
- Jean (10/5): Vintage Motel Next to National Cemetery where Abe - This Vintage property is constantly upgrading. I choose it because of location and because it is a 1950's vintage motel. They have recently painted and upgraded inside and out. There are a few cosmetic upgrades needed: needs indoor lock, weather stripping on the threshold.
- Valerie (8/5): - My kiddo enjoyed the pool a ton. I think my only two complaints were the bed being uncomfortable to my liking, and ants. All the recent rain had driven ants into the room. We had a good stay otherwise and would stay again.
- Claude (10/5): - The location is perfect; easy access to main part of the battlefield and close to excellent dining choices.
- craig (10/5): - Good experience. The 2nd time staying here I have no complaints.
- roger (6/5): Colton is good for the value - The location was great, staff was very courteous and friendly. The room was somewhat clean. The ligjt in the bathroom was filled with bugs, but the hot water was great. There is no breakfast , but for the price paid, who cares. We were only there to sleep and shower.
- Ryan (10/5): - Great place! Stayed here 3 times now I love it
- Kathleen (8/5): - Very basic, budget-priced accommodation, which is exactly what we were looking for on our pass-thru trip to Gettysburg. If you're looking for a reasonably priced place to hang your hat while in town, this fits the bill. The Colton's location is easily accessible to everything- town, shops, eateries, landmarks & sightseeing. It is a dated/vintage property, however it is super-convenient plus safe and kept clean. Staff very helpful. Though we hadn't originally planned to use the pool while there, we gladly ended up cooling down in it during a multi-day heat wave. extra pillows will be provided upon request (we'd brought our own), same holds true for towels. Bath toiletries were provided (shampoo, soap). Would we stay again? We find no reason not to, unless we decided to splurge & upgrade to a higher tier accommodation. Other than that, the Colton's price- in a great location during the high tourist season at that- was a very fair deal.
- MICHAEL (6/5): Don't Expect Much - I've stayed there numerous times.. while on vacation. Great location and good price is why I keep coming back. Parking is a bit cramped if the lot is full. This particular room was nice sized, comfortable bed. Television required two remotes to work. TV available programming was awful. Very little to choose from. Bathroom.. commode water tank had the wrong cover.. about a one inch gap between the tank and the cover. Shower head is mounted too low, kept hitting my head on it. No tissues/wipes in the container. Tiny trash cans filled up fast with trash, started over running. Had to buy trash bags to put excess trash in. Housekeeping never emptied the trash, but did tell me where the dumpster was. Breakfast there... forget it! A tiny single pot is used. One type of powdered creamer, only sugar and Splenda available. You have a choice between a small Danish or honey bun.. sign saying one per person! Absolutely ridiculous! If I go back to Gettysburg again, it might be worth paying a little extra for a better setup and condition.
- Jan and Troy (10/5): - It was a great location, close to the Civil war areas that you’ll want to see. For the price, we were very happy!
- Janneane (8/5): - Love the green and lavender colors in the bathroom!
Wish there was a microwave in the room
- Louis (6/5): -
Our initial room wasn’t cleaned however, the lady at the desk because of the inconvenience gave us the biggest room on the property so thank you
- Doty (6/5): Safe - It was safe which was my concern. It is pretty run down but beds were okay. Bathroom was just functional, towels were awful. Just be prepared
- Eva (8/5): - It was a good and average facility. Great value considering the area. Comfortable, quiet, convenient to downtown and other walkable areas.
I booked and arrived after 10pm. I was concerned about being able to obtain my room due to the office closing at 10pm and not being able to confirm via phone. However, upon arrival, they had a note with key instructions ready for me. This was a great relief and I had no issues getting my room. I am very happy with the accommodations and would stay here again.
- Carla (10/5): - This place is an older motel. It could use some updating. Bring your own pillows. The door to our room stuck. You had to push very hard to get the open to get in. But for the price it is what to expect. The room was clean and the staff was friendly. I would still stay here again.
- Robert (8/5): - Enjoyed my stay. When I needed to extend they were very accommodating
- Robert (8/5): - Older, but clean
- Jean (10/5): - This vintage motel has been doing extensive renovation. The outside is refreshed as are many rooms. The room I had was nicely decorated, mattress was outstanding, fridge, new carpet and room-darkening curtains; TV and a/c worked perfectly..overall a perfect room for my needs.
- Noel (10/5): - I always stay here and it's great . It gets better every year as constantly updating . It perfect the location as you can walk to everything. If I could I would give it 10 stars instead of 5 .
- Michael (8/5): - Well, one bed was too hard and another was to to soft, but overall for the price, outstanding and great location!
- John (8/5): - Nice older motel. Has everything you need and an easy walk to a lot of food/drink options. Can get to everything pretty quickly
- craig (10/5): - Good experience. Room was clean and quiet.
- Erin (8/5): - Staff was nice
- Kacie (10/5): - Adorable, clean, simple- right in the heart of Gettysburg. Owners/staff were extremely friendly. Would stay again !
- Joann (6/5): - Motel is a bit run down
- Jeffrey (2/5): - Ok here we go. Arrived Friday afternoon. Within 2 hours some dude came riding a bike across the parking lot with his entire ass hanging out and the worker yelled at him to pull his pants up to which he replied F YOU. the other workers now yelled at him to leave then properly which he also replied with F YOU. There was a screaming match for about 20 minutes while the one female worker was telling the guy to hit her. Very unprofessional and I pondered calling the cops. The next day a worker came to our room and apologized for what happened. Apparently the guy is the town drunk. The location of this property is amazing but now i understand why it was vacant. The place is absolutely disgusting and dirty. Dirty sheets dirty pillows just disgusting. The WiFi doesn’t work at all. Couldn’t stay connected for more than 5 mins. Was told at check in that “we offer complimentary pastries and coffee from 7-11” we went over at 715 and the place was locked and nobody around. The workers all live there so that was weird as well, guess they were still sleeping. Most rooms are “live in” rooms for some shady people. It’s more of a halfway house then a motel. People were hanging out outside all hours of the night talking. I seen one couple check in and go to their room only to check out and leave 25 mins later. This place is absolutely disgusting. Go somewhere else.
- Tracy (4/5): Run down but convenient location - Very run down, but seemed to be clean. People I the office were very friendly. Very convenient to Gettysburg
- Frank (8/5): - The room was clean and comfortable, although lighting was low, preventing me from being able to read.
- Ryan (10/5): - Staff was super friendly and helpful! Great location
- Mary (8/5): - Staff was friendly & accommodating, asked for extra pillows & received them!
- Steve (10/5): - Very convenient and comfortable
- Jan (10/5): - This property is no-frills, but it is reasonably priced and serves it's purpose. The location can't be beat.
- Ian (6/5): - Mattress wasn't very comfortable, bathroom toilet was very low to ground. The staff was very friendly whenever I needed to go to the office for something. I would still recommend it to people.
- Dennis (10/5): - Nice little old-school motel right in the heart of Gettysburg. Room was clean. Staff was very friendly and attentive. We’ll stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Vintage Motel in Prime Historic Location - Good points: room recently refurbished with new carpet and paint. New mattress was just right. Great ice machine! Outside currently being repainted.
Curtains need to be replaced; needs a few more clothes hooks in the bathroom, and also a small table or fold-up luggage rack. But as a budget-priced motel in a prime location, it served my purpose. I do wish people would not smoke or gather outside of rooms...needs a designated outdoor smoke area. They are preparing the pool for the season. A microwave in the room would be great. Delightful staff.
- Michael (10/5): - Freshly painted and new carpets.
- Steve (10/5): - Comfortable
- Candy (10/5): Amazing location. Friendly staff - This was not our first stay at the Colton. We love coming here because the people are so friendly. The rooms are clean, rates are reasonable and the location is unbeatable.
- Stephanie (8/5): - Great staff, but outdated. It worked for just sleeping there though.
- Jean (8/5): Vintage Motel Provides Value and Comfort - My first time at this property, chosen for location and economy. Exteriorbwas very nice for this "vintage motel." Mattress was perfect for me...firm! Room was spacious and quiet. Parking surpasses its "sister property" so it's likely I'll stay there again. A good coat of paint and overall room refresh would be good. Also, a microwave would make it perfect!
- Candice (8/5): Good price and location - Great price. Rooms need updating and bring your own pillow ! Pillows are flat. Great location to walk around Gettysburg. I would definitely stay there again.
- Carl (10/5): - Very convenient with walking distance to most destinations in area. Accommodations a bit spartan but comfortable. Friendly staff and great value.
- Victoria (2/5): - Smoke detector non existent. Smelled of smoke. Window screens didn’t work. Furniture was damaged. No breakfast. Carpet was filthy. Bedsheets were filthy. Never again would I stay here!!
- Sue (2/5): Deplorable conditions, stay away - This establishment needs to be closed down for the deplorable conditions of the room.
No smoke detector. No mattress protector , there were dead bugs on the bathroom and on the shower curtsin. Filth on the baseboards, they drilled holes for cable wiring, couldn't taje the time to vacuum up sawdust. Speaking of dust, there was so much dust on the tv stand, i wrote "dust me" on stand.
If you hsve mobility issues, be awzre that theres a large step to get i to the room. I have said issues and i was afraid i would trip and fall gettin into the room multiply times.
I didnt stay my second night, i took the hot and found another motel to stay at.
I felt as though i was sleeping in a garden shed for all the filth and dead bugs in the room.
- Joseph (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE! - This was by far the WORST hotel! It was dirty and smelly. It probably hasn’t been cleaned in years. Dead bugs and cobwebs everywhere. The mattress was disgusting and stained.
- Douglas (10/5): - Near battlefield
- Matt (4/5): - Was old and dirty. Front door looked like it was kicked in at one point
- Kevin (8/5): - I like the convenience of the location. Close to everything and no need to drive to relax. I read previous reviews and find them accurate. You get what you pay for and accept those conditions. Clean sheets , wifi, and location was good
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not Great - Location is good, near National Park with restaurants within walking distance. It was quiet. Room is shabby. Furniture is banged up, dead bees on window sill. Bathroom clean exceot a cup of water on tub, garbage not empty. Door not heavy and secure, deadbolt not working so would be able to knock down. Front desk friendly. Bed comfortable
- Shalene (4/5): - It was ok for a last min stay but the beds are awful and the rooms even tho they say non smoking still smell like thwy have been smoked in
- Autumn (10/5): - The Colton motel is the only place we stay when we go to Gettysburg! I will continue to stay there and recommend them to anyone who is looking for a nice and friendly hotel
- Lisa (6/5): Close to town but needs cleaned better. - The ladies at the front desk were wonderful. The rooms needed a deep cleaning. The bathroom was very dirty. The towels were very small and rough. It advertised coffee and tea in the common area but there was no tea.
- Jeffrey (6/5): Got what I expected sort of. - First the good. Checking in was quick and staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The room was what I expected for an under $100 a night stay. A bed, tv, fridge, shower & toilet. The location makes walking downtown easy.
The bad. It’s dated. You can tell they have tried to do some diy upgrades but that doesn’t help. Edges of desk, chair, nightstand, corners all chipped. Walls could use a good whip down and fresh coat of paint. Shower had pink slime mildew growing in the grout. We easily wiped it away with a washcloth. The walls had various colored splattered spots about knee high and lower.
In the evening the parking lot is a stop for a ghost tour stop. Pretty entertaining to watch and listen to the tours.
In all like I said at first the room was exactly what I expected. The staff is great and attentive. Just don’t expect luxury on a budget here.
- Donna (2/5): - The room was disgusting. There were stains on the walls, cobwebs and dead bugs in both the bathroom and the baseboard. Never again will i be staying there
- Patrick (10/5): - It is affordable to stay here, and is in a great position to walk just about anywhere.
- Richard (6/5): Great price and location - Great location, within walking distance to The Angle, Copse of Trees, etc. Perfect if you're there to see the battlefield and spend a minimal amount of time in room. Very comfortable beds. Had 2 rooms, only 1 with a microwave but both had fridges. Well worth the money.
- Sharon (8/5): - Great place to rest your head, after a busy day.
- Teja (6/5): - First room had a really bad odor and the front office staff was super nice and changed our room with no extra fee
- Mark (10/5): - It was quite
