Guest Reviews
- U6328FWkater (6/5): Budget Travel w Security & Basic Accommodations Missing - The Colton Motel was overbooked so we were bumped to their sister motel, the Budget Host Three Crowns just down the street. The cost, with taxes, was just shy of $110/night, which was significantly less than other in-town lodging. We often stay in budget places, we're not expecting anything fancy. The location was fantastic. The room was clean, if worn. The gal we dealt with was lovely.
As a woman who generally travels alone or with my sister, security is important. Traveling from NC we knew we'd likely arrive after the 10pm office closing time. Fortunately I phoned as we were on our way. That is when I discovered we'd been moved & that our key would be waiting by the office. After several long traffic delays we arrived at almost midnight.
A note was taped to the office door with my name & room number & direction that the key was under the door mat...something that anyone could have taken advantage of. I checked the whole room before bringing anything in. It was fine but that was a lack of security awareness I was not impressed by.
There was only one chair which was worn & had a metal piece poking through the upholstery into the sitter's leg. There was no where else to sit but the beds and the lobby where the coffee & honey buns were set out was not an option for spending any downtime.
The mattresses are worn & the towels were not absorbent. There are not enough electrical outlets and none available at the sink & mirror where one is most needed.
- KathyS699 (2/5): Very old and poor accommodation - This hotel is old filthy and shady. Please read the low reviews because they are hidden. This place is housing for people on public aid. They have a 3 day in advance cancelation policy. I had to pay for this place and also pay for a new place. I did not feel safe because the locks barely worked. The beds and furniture were 20 years old. They should not be on hotels.com. Beware!
- Kristen (8/5): - I have a great experience at the hotel this weekend during Apple festival. Staff was friendly from the guy the checked me in to the 2 house keepers. My room was clean and smelled great. Great restaurants and shopping options in walking distance as well as the battlefield and visitors center. Transportation through the battlefield was available my only negative was my room was very close to a side street and they were doing construction this weekend which woke us up with the sounds of a jackhammer. .
- Gary (6/5): - Parking fine.. AC was not working. Lucky it was not terribly warm temperatures.
- Cara (6/5): - The sheets were stretched out and wouldn’t remain in bed. It was gross sleeping on the mattress like that. There were stains and yuck. The floors were also dirty. My partner wore his socks around and they were brown after a few minutes. The place needs a deep clean. But love the location.
- vicki (10/5): - Staff were great and parking was great right at the door
- Glenn (4/5): - The was fair for the price. Bed needed to have new mattress as i felt the spring in my back all night. Ac needed a good cleaning as you could see filter hasn't been done in a long time. Shower needed a good scrubbing. Had to remake the bed as fitted sheet was not on properly.
- Bruce (6/5): - Very convenient place to stay, easy parking
- Izzy (6/5): - Fine
- John (4/5): - Floor was so dirty we had to scrub our feet! Mattress sank way down, shower didn’t work correctly, and air conditioner was lousy. We stayed one night and checked out early losing our paid days. Do not recommend!
- James (2/5): - Fabuloso. YUCK!! I had to sleep in the car!
- Brian (8/5): - Friendly staff and convenient motel
- Michael (6/5): - Very good access to town and shops, close to all battlefields and monuments, the hotel is in need of upgrades , you step back in time to the late 70’s at this place , but it accommodates pets at a cost of $30.00 per day , and is in a great location,
- Andrew (8/5): Good value for money. - Bear in mind this is a budget motel.
I was a bit dubious when booking but was pleasantly surprised.
Good value for money, polite and friendly staff and a good location in Gettysburg.
- Cori (4/5): - I decided to book this hotel after seeing the rating as “Good” I should have read the reviews. We booked for two nights but decided to move on after the first night. I will say it is in a great location….. that is the good. The bad… it is not clean. The bottom of the toilet was horrible and looked like it had not been cleaned in a long time (No excuse for it to look like it looked) The room needs a good deep clean for sure. We asked for extra towels and they never came. The next time we visit we will be sure to spend the extra $50-100 to ensure our room is at least clean. I took pictures of the toilet and will attach if can. If you absolutely have to stay here I would bring cleaners and throw away rags and give it a wipe down.
- JANE (8/5): - There was supposed to be coffee from 4-10 in morning, but office was not open either day we were there.
- Ralph (6/5): - Not very clean. Breakfast was a Walmart type honey bun. Just very shabby. Worked because it was pet friendly though$30 a night for a pet is high. Web site said$15.
- John (8/5): - Great location, great price
- Glenn (8/5): NP visit - Battlefield visit.
- Pumpman2 (8/5): Good location older motel - We stayed 2 nights others were sold out. Great central location. The motel is older. Shower worked great. Checkin was fast. Coffee and danish in AM. It’s right in heart of Gettysburg and was $99 night during prime season. I would pay a bit more if another location if available
- Brad (6/5): - The property is very rundown. The window air conditioner installed in the wall had all the markings for the buttons worn off. Somebody had marked them with them sharpie but most of that had worn off. The door opens to the outside and you can see light around it
- Rachel (8/5): - It was a great time. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of, was how low the bed was.
- Daniel (8/5): - We have stayed many times and the staff is what makes the stay a good one. The owner/s could make some updates and it would even be better
- Jane (10/5): - Outdated, but clean and close to everything
- Sue (2/5): Stay elsewhere - The motel is well past its expiration date. Old furnishings from the 1960s, poor lightning, the bathroom was filthy (see photos) and smelled moldy. The mattress was awful, it sagged as i sat on it, and had a terrible night's sleep. I brought flat sheets from home and used one as a fitted sheet and a top sheet.
The employee at the office during check in was not friendly in the least.
There are long term residents that live there, and i really didn't want to go to my car for something I forgot, the place has a slum feeling to it.
The motel could be a uniquely retro property, but the long term residents would need to go elsewhere, and every single room would need to be taken to the studs and be brought up to 22st century standards.
- Vickie (2/5): - Was dirty didnt look like its been cleaned in a long time staff was lazy, rude .
- Ben (2/5): - I would not recommend staying in the motel. Room was dirty, sheets were think and worn, bed had bed bugs which gave me issues thereafter, breakfast was merely a muffin and coffee. Overall, not a great offering unfortunately and I will not be returning.
- susanhB1635TE (2/5): Avoid this hovel - If I could give this review a "0" star rating,
I would.
The room is atrocious, old furnishings from the mid 20th century the mattress has outlived its lifespan. It literally sagged when I sat down on it, and had the worst night sleep in a long time. I went to Walmart and bought two flat sheets to place on the mattress and to use as a cover, I'm glad I took a shower before I left home because I wouldn't step into the tub/shower, it was awful.
Soundproofing is non-existent. You can hear everything from the adjacent rooms. I wear earplugs, so that didn't really bother me as I tried to sleep.
I was on my way to Gettysburg after work, and as I was on the Pennsylvania turnpike I received a call from this motel asking me what time I was going to arrive, I said about 7:15pm. I arrived into town at 7pm, and when I walked into the office there were two other guests waiting to check in, however there was no one around, one guest called the phone number given to reach an employee, but it rang and rang into the office phone. Another couple came in behind me. It turned out we all received the "what is your ETA" phone call. I left and came back a bit later, the employee was less than pleasant during my interaction with them. I parked my car and saw one of the other guests from earlier, I told him "wasn't the check in ofgice person pleasant?"....he said "oh no they weren't."
- Teddy1081 (4/5): See comments. - Was "doable" for one night, however, would not stay more than that and will most likely not stay here when we return to G-burg. It is a low budget motel that has some permanent residents. They advertise as having a free breakfast, but do not have a breakfast. The room seemed to be clean, although the motel is dated and the room was dark. The fitted sheet was very worn, kept coming off the mattress during the night, and we ended up sleeping directly on the mattress (which sank in towards the center). In the morning, we saw that the mattress was stained. The check-in and check-out staff were friendly.
- Ted (6/5): - Is close (walking distance) to stores and businesses in the south side of G-burg. Less expensive, BUT....
They advertise "free breakfast", but there isn't anything. The sheet for the mattress lost it's elastic and kept coming off all night so we ended up sleeping directly on a mattress that had stains.
Was clean. Was ok for one night.
- 3333sharon (6/5): Room was decent. - Too many permanent residents. Teenagers had key to pool gate, brought in out side girlfriends. I would not go in that water.
- Sara (10/5): Lovely place - Everything about the place was nice. The service, the room, friendly employees. The price point is also very affordable.
- Brittany (6/5): - Check in was super easy and fast with a good price, the room was okay, mattress covered in cheap plastic and sheets slipped off easily when tossing and turn on very firm mattress. None of the outlets would charge our devices but other than that average for an older property. Had a VERY UNCOMFORTABLE interaction at the pool with what I'm guessing is a long term stay guest, lady came up to pool gate on video call and showed my teenage daughter and myself in the pool and said about the color of our swimsuits, weirdest part she wanted for my husband to go back into our room to get something, we got out and felt very unsafe at the pool area.Sadly the outstanding reviews and recommendations, we won't be staying here again on our next trip.
- Elena (8/5): - Location is the best! Close to everything!
- David (2/5): - The wooden door swelled from humidity and I had to call police to bust it open to escape. My cell phone continuously dialed the desk from 5:15 am to 6:05 am for help getting out of the room but there was no answer. Then I called local Gettysburg police who came and burst the door open.
- Kerry (6/5): - Just a sad little motel; the price was right and it was close to the battlefield, so can k ly recommend if you're on a tight budget.
- Jennifer (6/5): - This property has a great location but the upkeep of the property is lacking over the years. We have stayed there many times before. It is an older motel, but a little maintenance could go a long way. Our room was very dirty- one bed the sheets were not changed between guests, dirty and full of hair. The floors were not cleaned and the shower drain was clogged, and the room smelled like smoke. The people were nice, but the place was very disappointing. It used to be a great place to stay, but we probable will not stay again
- Kristen (8/5): - It was a decent room. Parking lot can be kind of cramped but it had cold AC and a strong stream for the shower!
- Martine (8/5): - Great location and value for for area! The staff was not super friendly but the place served my needs
- Deborah (6/5): - The air conditioning worked very well. One mattress was firm and the other was softer. Unbearable heat for bike week and the outdoor pool helped to cool off when we needed it. TV had many channels however please invest in brackets to hang on wall. Pillows were flat as pancakes. Exhaust fan did not work in bathroom very humid. Furniture needs updating. Please buy chairs or benches for outside rooms and pool area. No where to sit outside of room. Please buy cover for light above sink a safety concern. The staff were very pleasant.
- Mabel (8/5): - i always stay there when in town.
- mac (2/5): Would not recommend - Desk clerk made it out to be an inconvenience because we checked in around 9 pm.had to get hair drier from front desk. Went to get some extra towels was told had to get them between 9 and 11 am. Smell of smoke and Marijuana all hours of the evening and throughout the night. When checking out couldnt get service just had to drop key and and tie hair dryer to door handle because door was locked at front desk at 8am in the morning.
- Mary Jo (8/5): - Very nice older motel and clean. What I liked best was the location, right in the middle of everything and the price was very reasonable. Good AC and staff. Seems like a like of repeat customers and that speaks volumes. Could pay double for a newer motel (and I have in the past here) but am happy I chose this and will stay again. Pool out back that was open and clean, little older but refreshing.
- Rebecca (6/5): - Haunted
- Pamela (10/5): - It’s an older motel but was still very nice and comfortable.
- Scott (4/5): - Bathroom was dirty, Hair all over tub and sink. Mold growing on shower tiles and shower Curtin had mold. Towels and wash cloths were very cheap and very old.
Door knob was so old I had to fight to get key to work.
- Sheila (10/5): Great place - Had no issues with staff or other clientele!! A/C was great a room was clean!! Reserved for next year already
- Kristen (10/5): - This property was great for an inexpensive option in Gettysburg. Each staff member was friendly knowledgeable and helpful! Pool was wonderful for hot days and everything was within walking distance!
- howardform (8/5): Good Budget Motel in middle of Gettysburg - Great Location for a Budget Motel, The motel had an amazing location, Walkable to Downtown Gettysburg and of course the motel had Free parking so you could just walk up and down the town of Gettysburg, which was what I wanted to do. It was very helpful as I was there July 4th and was able to walk to the Fireworks show and get back to motel veryt easily, while everyone was stuck in traffic. I really could not have asked for a better location as I had spent alot of time on this trip in the downtown area
The Rooms were clean and spacious
The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars was the Wifi and the breakfast, The Wifi was so-so and didnt always work. They need to get a booster or something for that.
I also was not such a fan of the breakfast, I get it that it was a budget Motel, but they were kind of stingy on the danishes, they only allowed 1 per person and the coffee was a Mr Coffee machine, they should get a Keurig
- Robert (2/5): Horrible place - Very shady and run down motel. Needs major upgrades. The bed felt like it came from a dollar store. Felt very uncomfortable. Ended up leaving as soon as I saw the room. Staff did not offer a refund. Very disappointing. Stay clear from this motel!!
- Julie (6/5): Wish it could had been cleaner - We have been at this hotel several times before. The staff are always friendly and the beds are comfortable. The furnishings are outdated and they do not have a breakfast like some of the other local hotels. The hotel is inexpensive compared to others. I was a bit disappointed that they did not change the sheets. We had dog fur all over ours.
- Dave (10/5): - We always stay at the Budget Host when we go to Gettysburg, it’s reasonably priced, convenient location and the owner always accommodates our request to stay in our favorite room #116.
- Daniel B. (10/5): - Nice and comfortable
- Lisa (8/5): - Close to most of the walking/bus tours. Easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. Parking was convenient.
- Michele (10/5): - Stayed 4 nights. Room was clean, staff very friendly. Excellent location. Would stay here again.
- Anthony (10/5): - Staff very informative and helpful
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great location in middle of historic district.
Good air conditioning. Allows dogs. Clean pool. Don’t look under or behind beds.
We didn’t spend much time in room, busy sightseeing.
- Melissa (8/5): - Great location, kind staff, family and pet friendly!!
- David (8/5): - Walking distance to shops and restaurants.
- Edmund (8/5): - Room as expected when looking a price. Clean and in excellent location in town.
- Tanya (2/5): - Absolutely filthy... The entire room was something out of a movie as were the ones in the other areas. It's the dirtiest place I've ever stayed. We had dirty sheets, dirty blankets, used washed clothes hangin up in shower! No fridge, no microwave. Property looked like it was housing people who maybe rent rooms by the mo th. No pool, no amenities at all. No central air only a broken loud air conditioner. In no way should this place be renting out rooms! I went off the reviews available to me. They were clearly lies or filtered. This place is a dump! We had to wear shoes not even socks to walk on those dirty floors. Felt disgusting being there! Please don't ruin your trip like I did by staying here! Let's not even talk about the tons of people outside being loud AF all hours of the night! Thank god for the loud broken air conditioner!
- Lexi (10/5): - If your looking for affordability and a great spot to be close to all the shops then this is the place to be!
Its a old building but the beds were comfy, room's were very clean, and the staff was absolutely amazing and so so friendly.
The AC unit during the summer time has a little bit of a hard time keep up with keeping room temp down but it was not terrible by no means.
I would 10/10 recommend staying here!
Thank you motor lodge for a great experience!
- George (8/5): - Friendly staff. Some rooms are not well wired for laptop use. It offers one of the best locations for visiting Gettysburg.
- carterj211 (8/5): Horrible housekeeping great management - I was at the hotel on Friday May 9th in town for Blue grass festival. We stayed 2 nights the first night the room was not cleaned correctly. The manager Harley the cowboy pointed it out to the cleaning lady and man that my room was not properly cleaned when I addressed him about it ,and she refused to come back and fix what was still dirty. I checked in around 3:30 and Harley came down and 5:30 and apologized and cleaned the room himself. He wipe down walls ceilings behind the toilet in the drawers dusted the wood furniture and wipe down my sink area as well as clean behind the toilet.. it was perfect then. He was helpful through my stay but while we were outside smoking the next day we noticed he went into each room the woman and man cleaned. I personally would have giving more stars if my room looked like that in the first place.
- Mary Ann (2/5): - Hair in the tub, dirty floors, food pieces in drawers and on floors, no one at front desk, no hair dryer in room.
- Donald (10/5): - Nice quiet little motel in downtown Gettysburg…walking distance to shops and bars
- Jeffrey (8/5): Great place to stay. - I was looking for a clean room for a one night stay. Got exactly that. Staff was extremely friendly, King beds was an average spring mattress. Room has seen some updates but could have spent more money on a worse hotel. I would definitely stay again.
- susan (10/5): - Everything was mean
- Michael (10/5): Great - Clean and close to the sites
Everything was , food, shops and sites
Nice room very clean
- Steve (6/5): - Great area for a staging point to visit the surrounding area. Easy walk to downtown core and lots of dining choices. Only downfall the services are very limited at the Motel. But saying that, it is a Motel and in general clean and safe.
- SUSAN (6/5): - Unfortunately this place didn't have a microwave. They close the office at 10pm, so we barely made it in time not knowing it closed. FYI, My gueen bed was broke.
- Carolyn (10/5): - It could use a real good cleaning. I liked that there is no carpet, but the floors are very dirty. Mattress had plenty of lumps so could use some new mattress also. Great location to walk around without having to drive everywhere.
- Sara (4/5): - The floors had this greasy feeling on them; you couldn’t walk without shoes. The lamp shades were dusty and look like splattered blood, the curtains had holes. The sheets weren’t great brought my own blankets and pillow.
The best thing was location, and if we got drunk enough it wasn’t a bad sleep.
- Michael (4/5): - Property is really 1 star don't stay here unless you have no option
- Jon (10/5): - Great everything
- Alice (4/5): - No phone no hair dryer had to ask for one. Air conditioner was above the sink had to stand on a chair to trun on and off. After taking a shower and walking on the floor our feet was black from the dirty floors. Had to ask for some to take are trash out and clean the room after three days. The office manager came and clean the room for us.. Will not stay again.
- P. (8/5): - I arrived after the office had closed to find a note on the door telling me which was my room & where I'd find the key, simply asking that I dealt with the checking-in formalities in the morning, before I left.
I was very grateful - & quite impressed.
The Manager told me that's how they do things there.
Only criticism was, as is so often the case in America, "breakfast" meant coffee. Still hope to return some time.
- John (10/5): Vacation - Nice small motel. Park in front of room. Location is great. Place is clean, staff are friendly and helpful.
- Joshua (8/5): - Affordable and location is good
- Bill (10/5): - We loved the proximity to the battlefield and the cleanliness of the room. It was priced nice instead of the extravagant prices of some of the larger hotels.
- John (10/5): - Its a great location
- Pat (8/5): - This is a modest property. The furniture is shabby.
It was very clean, except for the AC unit, which needs to be cleaned.
The bed was comfortable. I slept well and my back did not hurt. The sheets are a bit threadbare, but much mor comfortable than the scatchy sheets I had at Holiday Inn.
The hotel would be great if the owners upgraded with a theme, even shabby chic. Paint that old furniture! Make it bright! Embrace retro!
Since the window would not open, I slept with the door cracked open and security arm engaged.
Great location for walking.
One thing to know: no staff available after hours. What if the toilet overflowed?
Anyway, a clean, affordable option.
- Scott (4/5): - Unfortunately, we did not stay. When we arrived the check-in was good and the lady working the front was friendly. When we got to the room however it was poorly lit, with visible dirt on the floor and there were hairs on the bed when my wife removed the top covers, and the room looked very aged. My wife went to return the key after we booked another place and just told them something came up and we could not stay
- 438scottb (2/5): Not good - Unfortunately, we did not stay.
- Charles (10/5): - Very nice property and cost efficent
- Michael (8/5): - good
- William (2/5): - There were bugs in the drawers and in bed. Blood stains on the sheets. Will not be staying here again.
- Kimberly (10/5): - Staff is very polite and helpful. Always making sure your stay is perfect.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Guy at front desk is rude as hell.
Charged me $30 per night pet fee with no indication there is an additional fee for pets.
Refuse to give fresh towels after 11am.
Stayed for a week. Not once did anyone bother checking on us for house cleaning or anything else.
- Edward (10/5): - Convenient walking distance to dining , attractions and shopping. Was very happy with room cleanliness. Mattress was a little worn, but still got a good night sleep. Check In was a breeze. Room was dated In areas but I expect that at this price point. I will stay here again
- Lisa (4/5): - It has Buget in the name and thats exactly what it is ,smelled weird ,not very clean, fitted sheets to small took foever for it to heat up .Lets just say you get what you pay for .
- Alan (10/5): - Incredibly inexpensive for its ideal location. The hotel is older inside and out but if you’re in Gettysburg the last thing we’re doing is sitting around the hotel.
- Paula (8/5): - For the price it was more than I expected. They are within walking distance of shopping and dinning and the battlefield. Try out Fast Eddie's down the street for good food and atmosphere.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect place for an inexpensive getaway. - The staff was amazing and the hotel was perfect for our needs. A little tired, but very well kept and clean. Location was great and I would definitely stay here again
- Barry (6/5): - Good value. No frills motel. Wifi works great. Bathrooms need updating and towels are low end. That said if you frequent Gettysburg and don't want to pay $100/night, it's a good.deal.
- Jordan (10/5): - Everything
- Dave (10/5): - Best place to stay in Gettysburg, the location is great and being able to park directly in front of your room is wonderful.
- R911XJsandrag (2/5): Worst experience over the last three years of staying here - I have been going to this Inn for the past three years. And it’s been great. This past Thanksgiving weekend was the absolute worst I have ever seen this motel. Upon entering the room, none of the lights worked. I found out that they were all unplugged after I had to pull the bed away from the wall, along with the nightstand and plug the lights in and the three nights that I stayed there I killed several bugs. The stains above the toilet were so gross. I didn’t even want to use it. There seem to be a permanent resident living next to the room I was staying in and they made noise all night long. It seems that the gentleman that used to clean the rooms retired and I’ve noticed that it went straight downhill. The curtains that covered my room window looked like they had bullet holes through them. I used to recommend this place but no longer. Pay the extra money to stay in comfort and cleanliness.
- Michele (10/5): - We had a great time. We always stay there when we go to Gettysburg. Staff are always welcome and friendly.
- Dan (6/5): - We have stayed here many times and have never had a problem.
