Guest Reviews
- O_Araby (2/5): Worst experience ever - Worst service ever even they don't have espresso no one can help you anywhere rooms very old reception can't help anyone at all I will never ever come back no zero services zero hospitality at all even they doesn't welcome guests and they don't answer phones
- Zoeb_aden (4/5): Very bad experience. Avoid this hotel. - The lobby gave good impression but the rooms are terrible. First the key they gave did not work. Had to manually open
The room was small but had great view of river Nile. That’s all about it. Rest was very bad. Dust on tables and lights. Few lights not working. Curtains old and dusty
Safe not working. WiFi never worked
The ultimate was state of toilette. Basin was full of stains. Enamel peeled off. Faucet was without filter. The hand shower was broken. Bath tub shower knob broken. Towels were dirty and lint was peeling off. No exhaust. Hot water in basin took long time to come that too Luke warm.
After a heated discussion manage to change room but it was better but general hygiene was bad.
Elevators took lots of time to come.
The breakfast buffet was limited but milk jar was dirty with fungus. Breads were stale.
One positive was that housekeeping staff was very helpful to resolve the issues.
- johnnieboi84 (2/5): A very poor maintained hotel - From the front entrance you think hey this place ain't to bad, staff are ok but when I reached my room I was shocked with wat I saw. This sweat box of a room tiny bed I would say 3x3 in all bathroom was completely average. I went down stairs and complained advising the room is extremely small and not suitable wat so ever. He kindly changed the room to a much larger room I got in and it looked ok but then realised the only light on the room besides the ones in the bathroom is the lampstand no other lights turned on. Carpets was stained and then we get to the bathroom. The basin was clearly peeling away and so was the counter top. The bath wasn't clean and seemed to be stained. To be honest one of the worst hotels in regards to rooms I have ever stayed in. Then we get to t heir roof top bar. I went up for dinner I was handed a menu and as I flicked through none if the items were in English. I asked for a English menu and was told there was none. I made the wait staff read every single food option on the menu. I found it baffling that there was no English menu. The staff aren't hospitable in comparison other egyptian hotels I have stayed at. I would definitely not stay here again and if your thinking if staying here I would rethink that decision.
- ramia659 (10/5): Very nice location - The hotel location is very nice, room was ok, only the water pressure was not stable, staff very is polite parking is very small but always there is a place for park. Room cleaning was good. Next time i will stay here
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The room very dirty and no hot water no internet carpet dirty Bathroom sink dirty And crack Curtain dirty
- Mido (2/5): - The hotel staff are treated fairly well, but hotel officials always try to defraud and defraud visitors
- Eivlid (4/5): Got your message! - Dear Management! I got your message. You really do not want foreigners to stay at your hotel. The breakfast-coffee was terrible, - just like light brown water. And it's really the first hotel I have stayed at that didn't serve orange juice. The hotel promised wifi, but it didn't work. The room and bathroom were not nice, the curtains almost falling down and the shower almost broken. However, the mattress was good, and I slept well :) One evening I went to the reception and asked for a towel (we found only one towel in the bathroom one of the days). They asked me to go back to my room and wait. After 20 minutes I had to phone and ask. Then all together 3 people brought towels to my room. The last one at midnight when I almost was sleeping. I blame this on the management and not on the servants.
Finally, the view from the room was good! (My wife and I stayed at the hotel for four days.)
- Asad (10/5): Great and wonderful hotel - Great hotel
- dr-majidd (6/5): Average Hotel - Should nt claim 4* . Actually its 3* or less.
Checkin- smooth but room given was very small n change of room request denied as room carpets were dirty n smelly room.
Housekeeping. Perfect and girl was very considerate.
BF - was gud but same menu every day
Staff- was helping generally and guide well.
Ambiance- outlook was ok but if u go to stair side its messy n luk like barren n not maintained at all. Full of smell stairs side.
Lifts- slow n a bit confusing as not every lift go to every floor.
Overall- average hotel
- emirati_nomad (2/5): Horrible - I can't describe enough how this hotel need a change of staff and improvement of rooms windows.
All the staff except for reception keep looking at you and sweet talk so they can get tips. It feels like a video game when you keep trying to avoid people so they don't ask for tips. The most staff that made me uncomfortable were the security guards which I was shocked that they found out what's my name and kept saying hi and pushing a lot of sweet words so they can get tips. It's disgusting really.
I booked the Nile view rooms which were a huge mistake. Even if the windows are closed the horns of the cars will ensure you restless sleepless nights. I asked to change my room and they said they can put me in the city view rooms which are cheaper but they can't refund or compensate me in any way for the balance. Never ever in this hotel again.
Also one hotel staff was shouting outside in the corridor at his colleague telling them to bring something. I was shocked really I mean can't he go and tell him quietly what he needs I stead of shouting and waking up everyone. This is extreme low class service and I think the whole staff should be changed and get people with manners and courtesy and proper hotel service.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - cleanliness and hotel lacking housekeeping and maintenance
- Datsunville (10/5): Sheherzade hotel stay - great hotel. the hotel is tucked away down an alley way. you are Greeted at the door by friendly staff.
we got breakfast included, omelette with banana, yogurt and bread. the pool is clean and fresh. cheap and easy. the beers are cold and pizza is good too.
- Sam (2/5): - Pictures look beautiful vs the reality is nothing.
- Yusra (6/5): Not bad not great - It was quick one night stay .. staff is good special thanks to Mr Mohamed in the reception he was a great help
Room was ok .. great view & location but unfortunately the cleanliness & the room smell wasnt that great !
Toilet fixtures were old & damaged .. plastic beach chairs in balcony was such a shame for a good place like that .. breakfast was ok would be happier if improved
- Amoore1410 (8/5): Good hospatility at Shahrazad Hotel - I have been there for 7 nights at shahrazad hotel
The staff was cooperative and helping .
Miss Sally from Guest Service was great assistance to prepare and organize the booking and make the room ready ASAP .
The place was good and near the most wanted places in Cairo .
- saashaaa (4/5): Old hotel with old and stained furniture - Even in the lobby. Although they are renovating the lobby. The rooms are big but some of them have no hot water. The hotel is on a main road so on the weekend it is noisy till wee hours of the morning. the carpet and hotel will not provide water even in breakfast. the breakfast is mostly arabic and greasy. The manager Hani is quite accomodating and will try and help is something is wrong but the hotel is not a four star barely one star and should be given a miss
- Sabeh (4/5): Nicht zu empfhelen - Sauberkeit sehr mangelhaft, Fenster bzw. Tür sind nicht isoliert also zu laut. Service ist sehr schlecht.
- Casorohj (4/5): Needs to improve - My travel agency and hotel claim this a 4 star property. BUT IT IS NOT 4 Start property at all till dec 2018. Location is good, they will charge you for water even in buffet breakfast. In room no complementary water, tea, cattle etc. dirty and stained carpets ..
I stayed two nights later I changed to another hotel.
- jinxthanya (6/5): The old room was terrible - On the first night we got the old room. It was terrible. The floor was dirty. The room curtain can only close half the window , thus too much sun from the window when we wish to wake up late. They often miss your towel (always only one in the room ,have to ask for another one and it take ages )
Light sleeper should book the back side room, cause the room facing the street was so noisy.
We have to ask to change to the newer room which was just renovated. The new one was much cleaner. And the curtain work too!
No hair dryer, no complimentary drinking water.
The breakfast was so-so
I would rate my first room 1 star. But i actually rate from my overall experience.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Very bad. Wont return or recommend to any of my friends and family
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bad hotel and dirty bed and old furniture. - The boss are very bad person and he don’t treat the clients a good treatment
- dr-alanood (4/5): فندق مستواه اقل من 4 نجوم - Actually the hotel was not as expected. The internet is terrible. The water in the bathroom is too cold. The room is not clean.
The hotel in general is bad and not a 4 stars hotel as was told.
I will not book there in the future.
- ruth (2/5): - Filthy
- Cirukanini (2/5): Too dirty - The carpet in the room is stained, dirty and dusty. The house keeper cleaned the room as I sat in a corner and I coughed so hard from the dust rising from the carpet as he swept the carpet with a broom. I had to wear shoes inside the room. The bathroom doors and walls are covered with dirty water marks. The light switches are filthy oily and covered by black dirt, the kind that makes one to use tissue before touching.@55 dollars a night I must say I was robbed. The breakfast however is relatively good.
- Boder (2/5): - I Donot recommend it at all . See images thes can talk ....
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It's a bad hotel and rooms not clean also bathroom so dirty and a housekeeping not doing job so good, I well never stay at this hotel again.
why?!?!....When I saw on your site bundle and save it was pictures so nice, Thnks
- Mahmood (4/5): Food - Food was terrible, found hair in food, chicken bone in shish taook sandwich twice, complained but nothing was done, the hotel rooms were run down and old, staff were good and the laundry was the best.
- Ana (6/5): Great Staff, outdated hotel with so much potential - This hotel is outdated, it is not a 4 star -standard- hotel. However, my experience in Egypt tells me that perhaps this 4-star designation is only in comparison to Egyptian Standards.
The rooms are ok, the staff is great.
The breakfast, however, has so much potential to be a great breakfast buffet IF, and only IF they kept the warm dishes actually warm (seriously nobody wants to eat a cold piece of potato that feels like it's been lingering there for days).
Another important thing is the infrastructure. This is why I consider this hotel as outdated. There is leaking in the rooms - at least in the one I stayed -, and old carpets, beds, towels.
All in all, I would still recommend this hotel taking into consideration the options available in Cairo for similar prices.
- helmy48 (8/5): Ok - It was ok. Smoker every where. If were looking for non smoking area is not for you. Clean room and friendly stuff . Good breakfast. Avoid taxi driver in front of hotel they are very expensive . I have to change room twice to get better room. It old hotel need some fixings in carpet and painting and everything. You can go to better hotel for same value of money.
- nancyaF637YN (4/5): Don't ever try this hotel - The bathroom isn't clean and smelly. The hotel is very noisy, it needs sound proof windows. Front office employees are very rude and the managers of the hotel hit each others it's rubbish. This place isn't value for money, worst vacation ever.
- O7521LTstephenp (6/5): Nice hotel.....just hope you dont want to get any sleep. - Not a bad hotel this, situated on the banks of the Nile, but more importantly it’s on a busy main road. I travelled with a group of 13 people. Our room was up on the 9th floor, which I was happy about due to the noise from the traffic being quite loud. The lifts in this place have a mind of their own, so be prepared to wait a good while to both get in the lift and also get to the floor your aiming to go to. The rooms are basic but nice, but we did have to move the beds together, and found a lot of rubbish under the bed. This was hoovered up the next day. The staff are friendly and always tried to help. One issue I found was the noise. Even on the 9th floor, the noise coming from the road below (and the wild dogs barking) was a lot. We could even hear the noise from the Circus close by. Even with the windows and doors closed, you still could hear everything. I would probably try another hotel before returning to this one, only because of the noise issue, might be worth considering a bit of sound proofing? The hotel said there was free Wi-Fi throughout the building, but we could not get a signal on the 9th floor.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Love Egypt - Nice and feel safe....
- Farouk k (2/5): everything was bad - very bad
- 564sidb (6/5): Ok - Not the best place to be but Nile river view was great I most likely would not go to that hotel again as I had to get the room changed twice and the showers were freezing no hot water and the ratings are supposed to be a four star hotel
- travelnkg (8/5): Good Location - The Horizon Shahrazad is in a good location overlooking the Nile River with easy access to restaurants, taxis, the Egyptian Musuem, etc. Some of the front office staff can be very rigid at times. Opt for the river facing rooms as the view from the rooms facing the other side is not good.
- Nehal Kishore (6/5): Convenient Location - The hotel is in a good location but needs to be upgraded for some things. A couple of reception staff were not very co-operative and rather rigid.
- roby (2/5): Dirty used blankets and sheets and floors dirty - Horrible staff, took 30 mins to check me in my room when i came and checked in after 5pm
- Abe (2/5): Very bad experience! - I can say that I had the worst experience ever! The hotel looks old and it is not clean at all. My room was not clean also, the floor carpet is dirty (a lot of spots). Between the room door and the wall there was a space so I heard noises throughout the night (from the street) and I couldn't sleep for this reason. Their food is bad too. Terrible overall experience, will not go there again!
- Crissy (6/5): Caring staff but one "bad apple" - Overall, my experience with Horizon Shahrazad, was good. I was impressed with the treatment and in certain situations that exceeded my expectations.
The phone lines were a problem before my arrival. I spent a couple days struggling to make contact with the hotel to express my requests and check my reservation. I made contact with Expedia over the situation and I didn't receive a response from either the hotel or Expedia until AFTER my check-in. In the end, the issue was left alone and my request wasn't necessary. The hotel manager did try to make things right after I was already unpacked but I didn't find any changes necessary.
Along with the manager's efforts; the maids, kitchen staff serving breakfast, front desk, and security was cautious for my care. I had accidently left a personal item in the lobby and the security staff kept it for 24 hours until I came forward looking for it.
The one issue I will complain about is one security staff member with a mustache who harassed more than one of my friends. I am going to assume it was because my friends were male and I am female. First friend he continued to accuse and question about alternative motives for my friend's visit. A second friend, he questioned OUTSIDE the hotel when really it was none of his business what I did outside the hotel. A third friend accidently left his phone with security and returned to retrieve it. The same man asked my friend for money to get it returned.
- PatriciaC870 (8/5): Very good time - The hotel has the perfect location in Cairo. My room had a impressive view to the Nile.
The room was big a clean only the bathroom had small problems.
Breakfast in the hotel is fine maybe I was missing fruits but was ok.
The best thing in the hotel is the staff, really friendly specially innahu ( Mohamed Araafa) but all of them are really wonderful.
Slowly slowly are renovating the hotel so when is totally renovated will be fantastic.
If you are planing to visit Cairo I really recommend Shahrazad hotel
- |Gerry (6/5): Overlooking the River Nile - Very difficult to contact the hotel by either eMail or phone but this was rectified by Expedia. The hotel is in the throws of a make over and when completed will be a great place to stay.
Room service was great and friendly. I felt I could trust the staff implicitly.
Breakfast is more than adequate, catering for all tastes.
- Nisreen Abubakr Zain (10/5): The best service in Cairo hotels - I suggest travelers who want to visit Cairo this hotel has excellent service.. nice and safe area... the staffs are very helpful ... price is
- Verified traveler (2/5): Very very poor hotel. The worst stuff - Poor. Bad and very unrespective stuff. The worst hotel ever in my whole life. I don't know how expedia have such a poor hotel like this in their list. How come no water in this hotle to take shower. Power went off many times while I stayed at the hotle. Unrespansbile stuff to take control at this hotel. Punch of poor stuff don't respect the guest. Never think at all to look at this hotel or stay at it.
- Mohammad (2/5): Run away - Very very unpleasant
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great staff - Staff very very friendly and accommodating
- Fadi (4/5): Need improvement - -Windows did not close well so we can hear noises from street all night
-breakfast can improve a lot
-staff was not helpful when we asked questions ( gave us wrong info)
-washroom is clean but there was a smell
- not a 4 far hotel for sure!
- kiko (8/5): Clise to the nile river - Enjoyed the view of the nile river
I can also see the cairo tower as a far view along with the nile
- Rashid (2/5): Over priced hotel - Over priced hotel and rooms are not clean (dirty carpets and other)
- Stephen (4/5): Shabby and noisy on a dangerous street - The rooms have balconies overlooking the Nile. But they also overlook a road choked with very noisy traffic all day and all night. There are no traffic lights, so it is almost impossible to cross the road. The breakfasts are good. But the rooms and public spaces are shabby. The wi-fi is often unusable. The bottom line: Don't stay here.
- Ashish (8/5): Worth every penny.. - Amazing Staff, Bell Men, Front Desk, Restaurant etc... Great Stay... ESRAA, MARWA, Captan Ashraf, Mohemed...
- D.M.K. (10/5): Don't miss this hotel - Even your visiting Egypt for a once in a life time trip, don't stay anywhere else if you really want to KNOW Egypt. The Staff from Esraa at the reception to Noora in housekeeping or Rahma in the Cafeteria.... You'll be treated by the most professional staff in a hotel.
Back in the US if you want to eat authentic ethnic food, you find a restaurant that people from that nationality eating there ... For example a good Japanese food means you'll find Japanese people eating there...
So if you want to exprience Egypt, stay at this hotel where not only all different nationalities stay but also you'll see professional Egyptians visiting from different regions stay...
- David (10/5): I won't stay anywhere else. - From Reception's Ms. Esraa, Guest Relations Ms. Marwa to the housekeeping staff .... Everone is very nice and tries to accommodate ALL guests (even hard to please ones)
- Kyrillos (10/5): Staff...Staff...Staff - A great central Location, but the staff makes it even better. So if you want to stay in the Ritz that's fine...but you won't get this staff. Friendly, professional, courteous, knowledgeable and down to earth - so you don't have to deal with snobs at the R--Z
- Yassir (2/5): - im not happy
- Kyrillos (10/5): Central Location - If you want to be close to everything without being in the middle of the city, this is the perfect hotel for that. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
- Kyrillos (10/5): Stay in Egypt with REAL Egyptians - From Bellmen to General Manager and everyone in between including HouseKeeping, you will NOT find any hotel that have their kind of sincere service. It is not the fanciest hotel in Egypt, so you won't get the snobby service that goes with that sometimes, neither is it a cheap quality hotel so you won't get the quality of guests that keeps some families away.
The easiest thing to say is that my son when we were leaving, cried and refused to leave and had be carried to the cab....everytime we were out and he said "Let's go home" he mwant the hotel. The staff tried to take care of every little detail....some parts of the hotel are going through renovation....Which I believe will make it even a better choice than any other hotel in Cairo.
