- Bruce (7/5): We truly enjoyed the close proximity to the downtown square so close to many local highlights. Good - The advertising said breakfast included but the final booking with Bookings .com sent the confirmation without this so an additional fee. Able to do a late check out but again an additional fee to accommodate our morning activity. Staff were friendly but did not follow through when asked for an a extra pillow, may have been a language issue.

Staff is very friendly and check-in was very smooth. They also provide you with the option of leaving your luggage before checking in or checking out. The size of the bed was able to fit 4 people; therefore, you can't go wrong with space. I really enjoyed my stay.

- pulcino3 (4/5): Overpriced, noisy, unpleasant - The few positive aspects of this hotel are negligible against the numerous negatives, as detailed below.
Whenever I travel, I try to book direct because eliminating the middle man, so to speak, should be a win-win situation, as the hotel wouldn't have to pay booking fees to a 3rd party, and I could get a better rate.
Apparently the management of this hotel lacks common sense though.
In Jan 2025 I contacted Hotel Real de la Sierra in Mazamitla in order to book direct. They quoted a 25% higher price than that offered for the same room via a 3rd party! Moreover, they tried to pressure me to book at the higher rate right away by saying there was only one room left, when in fact the 3rd party website showed that all their double rooms were unoccupied! Lying to my face, and doing it stupidly.
So obviously I booked the room via a 3rd party website, with payment at the hotel (757 Mxp vs 941 Mxp quoted by the hotel). Then I contacted the hotel asking if credit cards are accepted. The person who responded said s/he only deals with quotes and reservation, and gave me another number to inquire about forms of payment. Clearly the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Completely disorganized.
Upon my visit , I repeatedly tried to get a logical explanation for the lack of common sense from the management, to no avail. I tried to negotiate a better rate for longer stays, and was told they would honor the price offered by the 3rd party booking site. But for the same price the 3rd party booking site offers bonus points, so why would I book directly with the hotel??? Makes no sense at all.
Rosalia, the hotel manager, and her husband are simple but shrewd people , and they obviously believe that foreigners are dumb. I asked if there was a bus to Valle de Juarez; the manager's husband told me there was no public transportation to Valle de Juarez and told me to hire a taxi (250 Mxp), when in fact there are many buses going back and forth daily for a fraction of the price (30 Mxp).
I admit they gave me one of their best rooms, but it's still shabby, with an odor of insecticide. The room door locks are flimsy privacy latches like those used for bathrooms, not proper door locks. The window didn't close properly, and at night, when temperatures dropped to 45 F in January, it felt as cold as sleeping outside.
There was A LOT of noise at night, and when I mentioned it to the manager, she shrugged. I didn't sleep more than a couple of hours a night, every night. And that was not even during the weekend, when I expect the noise levels increase.
The Internet disconnected continously, couldn't even access my email without interruptions.
I tried to be as friendly as possible with the staff, but I didn't feel welcome. Their smiles were forced, more like grimaces. The smile didn't reach their eyes, which regarded my every move with suspicion. They obviously dislike, or envy, "gringos".
Marcos, the night receptioning was the most unpleasant, frowning all the time; never looked me in the eye, never greeted me despite my efforts to be pleasant and courteous. He should really get out of the hospitality business!
Before checking out, I took photos of the room, bedsheets, and towels because I read reviews from people who were charged for damages, and I also requested that the maid check the room, to make sure that everything was in order, because I didn't want any surprises. I advise you to do the same if you choose to stay there.
This was my first visit to Mazamitla, where I'll need to return often for personal reasons, so I inquired at other hotels in town, and sure enough, Real de la Sierra is overpriced. I made note of a few other hotels that offer much better quality accommodation at cheaper rates because I will only return to this hotel when the hell freezes over.

- Robintravels (6/5): Pleasant - Very central and reasonably priced. It's right on a noisy street making it difficult to sleep. There was a strong sewage odour coming from the pipes when we stayed the night which was not pleasant.
- Oscar (10/5): - Excelente hotel. Accesible en precios
- Diana (9/5): Great place! - Location No elevator. Is hard when you are on the third floor w luggage
- America (10/5): - Muy agusto y limpio
- Elisabeth❤ (7/5): Good - The location of hotel is really close to the plaza. Which is where you can find memoirs and the big letters. As well as really yummy food. We went into a small plaza that had several mini restaurants and had breakfast there. Only thing we disliked is that the property does not have parking. It has a small parking area to the right of the building, but you have to pay 100 pesos per day, since it does not belong to the hotel.
- Manuel (9/5): Superb - Excellent location
- Yolanda (8/5): - Buena
