Guest Reviews
- eduardo (10/5): - Staff is amazing. its not a high end hotel. for my needs was amazing. is my 2nd time staying here. Solo traveler. Internet signal could be stronger and stable but it works well.
Staff is wonderful. Thanks abuelo Gerardo e to the amazing Manoel
- Jose (6/5): - It’s very outdated it needs a lot of work
- Ken (10/5): - Beautiful place
- Margaret (8/5): - The staff is so very friendly, nice and helpful. The property is extremely clean. They are willing to help with whatever you might need. The rooms are spacious and clean. Hotel is within walking distance of many places to go shopping, eat, etc.
Would definitely recommend!
- David (6/5): - People were friendly and they did have a water dispenser.
- Marilyn (8/5): - It is close to what we wanted.
- Pam (10/5): - Felt very safe and comfortable
- Matthew (8/5): - Nice, quaint, family-owned business. Rooms have everything you need, AC works great which helps with that Isla humidity. Located in the middle of town next to all the restaurants, bars, shopping, and most important the beach! All within short walking distance. Make sure to go Al Natural for the best Al Pastor tacos you will ever have and stop into the market down the street for authentic food stalls and refreshing juices.
The wifi was a little spotty but I wasn't in my room for most of my stay. I also had a small leak in my bathroom ceiling above the sink. They were able to fix the next day and were willing to move me if it didn't get better.
I would definitely stay here again.
- Joseph (10/5): Simple - Nice simple family owned hotel in a great spot
- Phil (8/5): - It is a convenient safe place. Great staff. I will definitely stay there again.
- Andrego (2/5): - No hot water for the whole stay
- Vaman (8/5): - Cute hotel .. advertised as adults only, but we did see some kids for a couple of days, but they weren't a bother. The only issue we had was that we had the smallest room on the top floor. We are older and requested a room on lower floors on the front end of the hotel close to where four of our other friends had rooms and were told they didn't have them. We saw several folks come in after, some alone and they got rooms with two double beds while we had one double bed in a cramped room. Other than that it was fine. The sheets were clean, but the foam on the mattress could have been replaced and the floor under the bed could have been cleaned more often. We were told it had an ocean view, which it did if you sat out on a really SMALL balcony and you barely got to see the ocean past the seawall.
THe owners and the family that ran the place lived on the premises and were pleasant enough. If I had to go back, I would request another room.
- Richard (4/5): - No hot water. Uncomfortable beds. Not very clean. Cheap, but I guess you get what you pay for, not much.
- Rick (10/5): - Nice front desk staff Leana was great ! Good beds showers and Ac was amazing …
Thanks all
- Verified traveler (8/5): Isla - Excellent location older hotel, excellent owner, Jerry. Good place to sleep shower and get cleaned up, needs a little more amenities, like towels and utensils for the kitchenette. Everything worked..ice cold air-conditioning ceiling fan for those hot humid days. We had a view, could see the ocean from the balcony. Would stay here again
- Melissa (8/5): - Everything was fantastic! Family is super accommodating...had a slight problem with shower, but they fixed it immediately...clean, cold AC...beds Ok...perfect location for getting around the island. Will definitely reccommend this very cost effective hotel to friends!! Nothing fancy, but worth every peso!!! Gracias Geraldo!!
- George (10/5): - It is a very beautiful place very close to the water and beach. Was in a very comfortable room and there was plenty of service when needed. Great location to the action as well
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent place in a very good location within Isla Mujeres. All of the touristy areas are within walking distance, and if you want to rent a golf cart, you can do that within walking distance as well. The room was spacious and included everything we needed.
- Rebecca (10/5): - All was wonderful. The family that owns and operates the hotel are very accommodating. My sister and I would highly recommend the Francis Arlene to all looking for a great place to stay while visiting Isla
- Heidi (8/5): - the courtyard was lovely. I wished there was a coffee maker or small kitchenette. And wished for water in the room.
- Karen (10/5): - My stay was amazing! Such a beautiful hotel & the owners & staff are all lovely people!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, bed was due for replacement. Very clean and quiet.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - The staff was very friendly, make sure you take your own wash cloths, they are not provided. Excellent patios!! Our room could have used some definate updating, because i did see room across from us.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - My air conditioner and tv quit on my first night. I had to spend the entire day on Thursday for air conditioner man. I usually stay somewhere else, but they had no rooms. I believe this hotel is a little overpriced. No glasses in room, no shampoo, and only 2 towels for whole stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We loved this place. They family who rums it lives on site and all of the resisdents we met made us feel like family. older hotel and very quaint, not fancy and maybe not for some, but we loved it so. Our first trip to the island was enhanced by our stay here. Certainly part of the overall neighborhood.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great value for Isla Mujeres - Great location. Friendly staff. Great value. We will be back.
- barrie (8/5): Nice small family hotel - Good little hotel.staff were very friendly.they were not busy and gave us our room really early. Very clean. No hairdryer, even to borrow and an annoying drip in the bathroom were the only drawbacks. Great location
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location. Safe. Owners nice!
- Allan (8/5): - Excellent staff, Close to downtown and all the shops the only negative to the whole stay was the mattress in the room was like sleeping on a rock
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location - GREAT Value - it is always a pleasure to stay at FA................
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice quiet place with a home like atmosphere. - I initially booked just one night but booked one extra night. Very relaxing place. My room overlooked the garden courtyard with the trippy lighting. Has a very Mexican feel with the decorations etc. Staff were good.
- Ronald (8/5): Nice hotel in Centro - Everything was great. The only thing I didn't like were the water marks/stains running down all the walls in my room. I don't know why they don't get someone to wash the walls down
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Needs some TLC, paint and miner repairs. It's tired.
- Margita (8/5): Nice eclectic vibe - The front desk staff went out of their way to help us with whatever came up during our 15 night stay.
- charles (10/5): Amazing - Beautiful well decorated hotel 200 feet from carribean sea wall malecon...staff amazing and friendly..3 storeys no elevator ....amazing hot water tank and great showers...Safe and clean...
- Kevin (8/5): Nice hotel in older part of the Island - Nice hotel in the older area of the island. Had a fun time sitting on the balcony people watching, on the road below, nice friendly staff. I would stay there again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): What you would expect for $100 a night - Staff was great, Location is perfect, Linens filthy and mattresses are brutal. Rooms are a good size and had a TV and a fridge so those we're bonuses. No hot water all four days. No wi-fi in room. Was advertised as 3 double beds were only two. Purified water provided bring your own vessel so you can refill.
- Edwin (2/5): Warning!!! - This is a family run hotel that appears to have been left to be run by two young adults who appear to have no formal training on guest relations and customer service. We had a poor welcome, they hardly spoke to us, the girl on reception who showed us our room ran ahead and was well up the corridor before my husband had retrieved his suitcase from reception, leaving us to find our way.
Our check out was worse then check in. When I said we were checking out, only two words were spoken the young lad on reception simply glanced up and said "OK" took the keys off me then just as we left the door shouted bye!
The room was quite large but in great need of updating, it reminded us of a1970s B&B and the bed and bedding were poor. The bathroom taps were badly lime-scaled and need replacing because they could no longer be cleaned.
Reception is only manned until 2200hrs when all lights in the hotel appear to be turned off.
Having paid over £100.00 for one night we thought this hotel was far overpriced for the poor quality of accommodation and service we received. Having travelled the Yucatan peninsular and staying in many hotels all of which have been far superior and better value we can not in any circumstance recommend this hotel.
- Candice (2/5): Nightmare! - We reserved a room with a KIng bed and ended up with two double beds that were like sleeping on plywood. There was no soap in the bathroom thank g-d I packed my own. The last straw was when I got up in the middle of the night to pee and the toilet seat was loose and fell in the toilet when I was sitting on it!!
- Joan (8/5): Close to most things you'll want - Enjoyed the size and amenities offered in our room; patio was sufficient for two of us providing both sunshine and shade; peaceful although we recommend bringing ear plugs if you prefer to block out late evening music/noise; staff very friendly and able to manage our questions; hotel is convenient to many restaurants & shopping, grocery store, pharmacy, ATM, church, cart/moped rentals, the ferry pier, sports bars (w/multiple TVs), and other late night clubs
- Pamela (4/5): Great location! Disappointed with amenities/beds. - Pros - Excellent location for wanting to be close to the beach and downtown shops and restaurants. The AC was fixed, the staff was very friendly and tried to be as helpful as possible, the room was cleaned daily, and we did not have an issue with any of our items missing during the whole week.
Cons - We booked a king room and were placed in a room with three full beds. Not at all what we booked. It had a small kitchen area with a frig and a few plastic dishes. No microwave, coffee maker, dish soap, dish cloth or dish towel. They did not provide and do not have washcloths for the bathroom , beach towels or a hair dryer. The beds were hard as a rock and when you sat down on them to put on your shoes, the bed did not budge. Our AC went out twice while there and I ran out of hot water in the shower. Not a lot of storage space in the room for clothing for someone staying a week. We lived out of our suitcases.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quiet and safe, excellent location, friendliest staff, terrace was great
- Rooksana (10/5): Simply perfect. - Small local hotel near to beach and restaurants. Everything that we needed. Lovely staff. Clean. Good a/c. Good wi-fi.
- Terry (8/5): Close to beach - Clean room, cold A/C Hot water. What more you need!
- william (10/5): Simple ,and Clean - Hotel Francis Arlene was our 2nd time there, and we will definitely stay there again!
- Chris (8/5): Authentic Island Gem - Isla Mujeres is a small island off the coast of Cancun that can only be accessed by ferry. When you are ready to step away from the big chain resorts and have an authentic Mexican vacation experience, this is the place to go. A short walk through town to the east side of the island brings you to the Francis Arlene hotel. There is a beautifully carved sign in the buildings stucco, no neon. The tile floors and brightly decorated lobby give a feeling of home more than hotel. Jordy greated is and was very polite and walked us to our room. The courtyard brings the tropics to life with lush greenery. The room was spacious with a small, but adequate balcony. There was a kitchenette with microwave, refridgerator, and sink. A few more utensils would have been nice, but it's a hotel. The hot water was not working at first, but the owner quickly addressed and corrected. They were also upgrading storm shutters and renovating the other half of hotel.
The views of the Caribbean from the rooftop are breathtaking. Catch the sunrise or set for a lasting memory.
Overall Great stay if you want a boutique hotel that captures the essence of architecture and culture of the region. Family run hotel with great staff and owner.
Gracias
- Hillary (8/5): Good place to stay! - I really enjoyed my time here. Didn't spend that much time at the hotel, but the staff was great, the bed was very comfortable, and it had an air conditioner which upped the comfort level. :)
- Verified traveler (4/5): Very convenient location. - Wifi was sporadic. Stingy with toiletries, best bring your own.
- kris (6/5): Adequate - The room itself was fine, after switching rooms after one night. The lack of amenities is my main complaint, no coffee, no beach towels, no hair dryer, and the smallest refrigerator I've ever seen. It's a quaint place just badly in need of some updates
- Thomas R (8/5): great location on isla Mujeres saved a lot on taxi - one of the two beds was rather uncomfortable, otherwise a perfect stay.
- Leslie (8/5): - Great location! Close to beach and Hildago. Rolando at front desk was wonderful and very helpful! Rooms were basic, but clean and comfortable. Only thing lacking was water pressure and hot water. Rolando apologised and explained the water heater broke and was being fixed. Hopefully my next stay here will prove that to be true.
- Blair (8/5): Good stay at the Hotel Francis Arlene - Good stay for one week in Isla Mujeres. Hotel is close to shopping, restaurants and the night life scene in the centro area. Beaches are within walking distance as is the ferry terminal, both about 5-7 blocks away. Front desk was helpful and friendly. The room was clean, if a bit dated. The A/C and fan worked very well and the bed was very comfortable. The fridge and tv both worked well, although they have seen better days. Bathroom was good also, although the sink hardware had seen better days too. Our room had a balcony with resin furniture facing the street which was very nice. If you do not like noise, it would be best to get a room on the side or back of the hotel. It was not too loud at night, but a light sleeper might find it too loud. Also, note the hotel does not have an elevator. If you are expecting a four or five star hotel with lots of amenities, this is not the place for you. However, if you are looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in the town area of Isla Mujeres close to restaurants shopping and the beach, this might be the place for you.
