Guest Reviews
- joe (8/5): It has all the basics.. - Location is why I like it.
- Terri (8/5): We love Captain John’s. - The only thing offered for breakfast was an apple. 😚 A coffee maker in the room.
- Brian (9/5): Great location, nice cleaning stations, decent rooms - Conveniently located near the bay, it is a great place for people to stay during their fishing trips. They have a nice cleaning station for multiple people and cook pots.
Rooms are basic, but have everything you need. Bed and bedding seamed old and we're not comfortable.

- Glenn (7/5): -
- Tasha & Eric (7/5): - How close it is to good restaurants and to the coast line. The water takes over 20 min to heat up.
- Jeff (7/5): - Great staff. A bit noisy.
- Gary (8/5): We really felt the old school coastal vibe. - Staff was nice , location is close to coast and several beautiful state parks
- Matthew (9/5): - Clean rooms, friendly management
- Janice (9/5): a friendly cute clean motel old school style but a great mattress, clean and inexpensive and safe! - cute place, old school but first rate mattress! room was very clean, it had a nice micro and frig. very safe and a great price. woman who checked us in was very nice and very welcoming. nothing
- Ralph (8/5): - Great location, shops and restaurants close.
- LeRoy (7/5): -

- WhalesWatch (10/5): Great Retro Motel. - We made a last-minute trip to the greater Coos Bay area. I love old school motels, and this filled the bill. The room had been recently re-done and was clean, quiet and comfortable. We walked across the street to the Portside and had drinks and dinner and watched the boat lights come on. The staff was friendly and it didn't cost an arm and the leg we would stay there again. This was rainy winter, so there were only what looked to be 4 rooms occupied.
- Jet14181418902 (10/5): Nice gateway on the coast - Location is perfect, the weather was amazing. Beach and restaurants within a walking distance... Shore Acres State park was close by.
comfortable room and clean, staff is very nice...
- Nita (7/5): - Bed was comfy Bed moves around on the platform when you try to get in. Light in hallway was burnt out
- Luke (6/5): -
- shane (10/5): - Staff were friendly and very personable.

- John (8/5): An excellent place to stay if you are using the Charleston boat ramp. - Captain John's is located next to the Charleston boat ramp which is perfect for a jumping off spot for boaters in Coos Bay. Upon return you can use their fish cleaning station which has everything you need. The booking.com reservation could not be found, so we had to pay the regular rate which was about 20% more.
- Kristen (7/5): - The smell of fish.
- Harold (10/5): - Great staff. Super location. Inexpensive.
- KELLY (5/5): It was fare. Not great. The place was very run down. - It's location was close to the camp grounds my family stayed at. Compared to the hotel we stayed at in Depot Bay, it was very run down and more expenseive.
- Jacob (10/5): -
- Ava (10/5): - The state park and beach very close, restaurants within a walking distance. Customer service is excellent. Great recommendations for dining. room was very clean. No Breakfast but some snacks in the morning which was enough for us. And coffee !
- Patty (8/5): -
- Susan (5/5): - The rooms weren’t very sound proof.
- Julie (8/5): I'll be making reservations here next time i come to the coast - comfortable bed, room was clean. nothing
- Justin (8/5): -
- blake (8/5): Good stay overall. The pillows are too thin. Needed 3 of them to make 1 pillow pretty. - good stay! pillows are very thin.
- Teresa (5/5): I will return. - Good coffee, excellent staff, extra clean rooms. Quiet. Staff was excellent. The type of bedsheets used in the pet rooms did nallow dog hair to wash away from fabric. An upgrade in sheets is suggested. My experience has been all cotton sheets do not allow hair to weave into the fabric during washing. An inexpensive cotton bedsheet can be ordered from Ikea. Staff did what they could to accommodate me.
- Ava (10/5): - Love this place! Always clean and comfortable and very close from the beach.
- Dawn (8/5): - It was in a great location for where we needed to be for our mini family vacation And the price was great for two rooms
- Josh (6/5): -
- shawn (10/5): -
- SPERL (9/5): - Comfortable bed and quiet. That it wasn't free. Yeah, I'd like it to be free.🤣
- Erin (9/5): Would definitely stay again in the future. - Very clean, old school quaint. Fit the ticket for a trip to see the lights at shore acres beautifully.
- Robert (7/5): -
- Diane (7/5): It was convenient - location Thin walls
- BALAZS (2/5): i would like to get a refund as i’m very unsatisfied with the service - it was clean at least - the door locker came out from the door
- i was not informed properly how and where to find the check in
- lack of email address on the booking page
- Shannon (10/5): -
- Robert (8/5): - How close the doc where.
- Bonnie (7/5): Comfortable. Would not want to stay if it was full though. - The bed was very good. Could have used a bigger sink. The faucet was placed so the water was barely accessible. But it was clean and well appointed.. Walls WAY too thin. We could hear complete conversations spoken softly from the next room. No nightlight. The clerk though very polite was not familiar with local amenities. No tub. The office only had snacks till 10 am...and pitifull "snacks".
- Marylee (8/5): -
- Connie (6/5): - Good location for what was needed. Curtains missing from some windows and no dish towels.
- Crystal (9/5): - Nice little out of the way location so it was quiet. There was a restaurant right next door. Rooms were super clean. The walls were super thin so you could hear the people next door.
- Aaron (7/5): -
- Perez (10/5): -
- Jeremy Barnes (9/5): - Staff was very helpful and friendly. The facility was great. Has a crab cooking area for your catch. Its covered and out of the wind and weather. The price was very reasonable. Its less than 3 blocks from the marina and crabbing dock. For the price I have no complaints
- Scott (7/5): Nice but not a good value for the price - The location, Keurig in room. Housekeeping gal did a very good job. The guests next door were very loud talkers, and the gap under the adjoining room door was not sealed, I had to turn up the tv to hear it as it sounded as if they were in my room. also, as this is a very old motel i could hear them snoring all night long. Walls were thin. I have stayed here for over 30 years, and sadly, I will stay in Coos Bay next trip.
- Housel (8/5): - Friendly Staff. Easy in and out process. Great location to Shore Acres and Big Waves The bed sheets were showing some age with some discoloration, but they room was clean and looks like some renovations were done and felt comfortable for the stay.
- Siminski (7/5): -
- Omri (8/5): -
- Gary (10/5): -
- lynne (8/5): -
- Betty (10/5): -
- Jordan (7/5): Charming stay - All the staff we met were extremely friendly. We even got a welcome call before arrival to make sure everything was set. The room is spacious and comfortable and clean. There are some places you could easily walk to but also easy to drive into the closer towns, if needed. There is coffee and light snacks in the check-in lobby in the morning. Everything was just fine.
- Patti (8/5): Ok and overpriced - It was definitely a place for fishermen. Guys were in the parking lot with their catch and crab pots ready to cook.
Room was just fair, worn and older but clean. Staff was nice. Price was too high for the property! It was close to the beach and exit to the bay but industrial area. Worn, out of date. Window in front next to the door and exterior walkway. No other window. I was not going to leave the window cracked open for fresh air! So stuffy.
- Richard (6/5): -
- James (10/5): -
- Virginia (10/5): Fantástico - La habitación y el desayuno, había fruta. Se oían mucho los vecinos,
- warino (10/5): -
- Karen (5/5): -
- Richard (8/5): Good place to stay if in the area - For a small independent hotel very nice
- Alyssa (8/5): - Rooms was clean & location is amazing The smell of the cleaner used was pretty strong. Not sure if it was from mopping or just a spray air freshener but it was really strong and took hours to dissipate
- Mahir (7/5): -
- Doyle (5/5): Cute older motel with improvements. Noise level would prevent us from staying again. - Friendly front desk. Overall cleanliness and room condition was good. Microwave and mini fridge was appreciated as were morning coffee/snacks. Very noisy due to traffic and minimal soundproofing. Listened to neighbors coughing and snoring all night. Room had no chair nor rack/hangers for clothing. Soap dispenser in shower didn't work.
- BARBARA (4/5): I know it was a fishing village, but it definitely smelled like a fishy village. - I booked through Booking.com. I entered 2 adults and 1 child. It came back as 2 adults and said kids are always free. When I checked in, they said that was not true. I was charged more for my 8 yr old granddaughter. Still cheaper than Coos Bay, but still.
- Sarah (10/5): - I am not used to motels ranking high on cleanliness, so I was blown away with the cleanliness of this room. The bed was comfortable and the in-room refrigerator was a great size. Check-in and check-out were smooth and fast. Location was fantastic.
- Scott (8/5): -
- Pamela (10/5): -
- Vicki Long (6/5): Just ok - Coffee and muffins only some fruit Motel needs remodeling
- Karen (9/5): -
- Adams (6/5): If you want three beds get an extra room - Close to the pier. Beds in the bedrooms were comfortable. But needed a third bed We had three people and wanted three beds. Couch was worn out and futon was too hard to sleep in.
- Gabriele (9/5): -
- seungwon (1/5): It cannot be deserved 7 points. - No. Really Dirty facility. Terrible.
The owner is not caring this facility . Disgusting Coffee port , Switch .... You can hear next's rooms sound very well....
Too expensive for this facility. I don't understand How this motel can get 7 level grade.
- Cindy (8/5): Short drive to beautiful ocean scenery and beaches. Good seafood options. - Good location for visiting state parks with beautiful ocean views and wildlife within a 5 mile drive. In a small fishing town with fresh seafood and harbor. Friendly staff and other hotel guests.
- Frank (8/5): Top place to stay for keen fisher-folk ! - Helpful and friendly staff, easy parking, a very good seafood restaurant a 2 minute stroll, plus a bakery and groceries also very close. Very good spot for keen fisher-folk with parking for boat and car plus a cleaning room, well sorted. Walls were a bit 'thin' or more likely through the 'shared door' between rooms so noise between rooms was shared, hard with smaller children.
- Hebert (8/5): Overall, very nice - Wonderful stuff and close to boating The rollaway bed was pretty poor for Support
- Parthasarathi Ghosh (9/5): We had a wonderful short stay - The motel is easily accessible. It has adequate parking for cars. Check in was very fast and pleasant. There are a few restaurants around, couple of them are excellent. Receptionist can provide reference based on one's preference. We enjoyed our short stay.
- Hans (8/5): -
- Fred (6/5): -
- bruce (7/5): I'd stay there again - boat ramp close by so enjoyed taking coffee down there too far from golf
- Stuart (8/5): -
- Anna Marie (3/5): -
- Kathryn (8/5): - The property was older but perfectly fine.
- kristincM6484TL (6/5): Bare Bones - We have stayed here many times, and it hasn’t changed much over the years. It is a bare bones motel, the rooms are very dated, threadbare linens. This time we couldn’t use the heater because it kept kicking on and off all night and it sounded like a Jake brake on a Mack truck. The blow dryer was broken and the dumpster outside the door was stinkin to high heaven. But we always come back because we love to go crabbing on the public docks and this place is convenient and has facilities to cook our catch. The area is quite depressed; most of the restaurants have closed down, and Basin tackle is out of business. Sad. Millers by the Cove restaurant across the street is excellent! Best steamers I’ve ever had!
- Richard (7/5): Good location, walking distance to Miller’sPub and 25min drive to Bandon Dunes. - Adjoining room noise bothersome.
- Ansell (10/5): -
- Dail (8/5): Awesome - Very clean
