- Aaron (5/5): Left at 2am. - Check in. Woke up to a party at 1230am, couldnt call anyone couldnt complain. No help, walls are like paper. Door between rooms lets light through from the other room. Can hear the tv and a party next door. Nothing around the hotel for 20miles to eat or drink. The "restaurant" =Pizza/ calzone etc, with a 20% gratuity included at the "restaurant". sorry Im not eating any place where im forced to pay gratuity and looks rundown with nobody there, no pictures, no ambiance. You should just include that gratuity in the price and if people dont like that then they can not eat there, but to call it gratuity? I just wanted something to take to my room, and im going to wait for them to make it then take it to my room after paying 20% for what? You should just pay your employees a proper wage for what they do. Rather than make your customers pay your employees for what they dont do? Whole place looks rundown, low light and no care. Didnt know if i was walking into the restaurant or the lobby, whole place looks lack luster, a whole room by the front that looked like it was a store or something with nothing but empty refrigerators and displays? Left this place at 2am! Couldn't stand it! Waste of $.
- Dolores (8/5): We will be back again and have some of that Stromboli - We love the simplicity of the property, reminded us of the 1960s Lodge. Our dinner was the Stromboli, which was excellent and very affordable and we had a nice breakfast as well. The other bonus is it’s very close to Monarch ski Mountain. The bed could’ve been firmer

- Marina (1/5): Horrible. Do not stay here. - Nothing. The staff were unfriendly. It took forever to get into our room and when we finally did, it was completely uncleaned. The sheets hadn’t been washed and there were poop and blood stains all over them. There was also bloodstains on the trashcan and on the bathroom floor. I took videos of everything and left after 10 minutes of being there. I am still waiting for someone to return my call to get a refund as the front desk staff were nowhere to be found when we left.

TV was broken, mold on the shower curtain and on the bathroom ceiling. One of the rooms I rented wasn't cleaned at all, Absolute ripoff.
- Kelseyjd (4/5): Dirty - The location was convenient to Monarch Pass The room was dirty when we arrived. Linens etc. had been changed, but there was obvious dirt on the bathroom floor and trash in the coffee bin. The tub drain backed up immediately and left scum and muck in the tub.
- B4164ANchristinem (2/5): Worst motel stay ever - SLUM LORDS OWN THIS PLACE - We came to Monarch Mountain Lodge with our out of state family in hopes to have a great vacation. We had kids and adults who were looking forward to enjoying the pool and hot tub. Unfortunately neither were actually warm and or working properly. The front desk staff stated that they had not worked in 4 months. I was given the number of the general manager/owner named Kelly Ritz, who very rudely yelled and hung up on me when I told her of our disappointment. Sadly this hotel is very run down and unsanitary. We had a mouse run across the floor and decided to end our prepaid 3 day stay. The owners/property management of this hotel are slum Lords and this hotel could needs a huge uplift. There were multiple other issues/hazards with our 1 night stay, such as TV's not working, mold in bathrooms and doors locking children inside of adjoining rooms. Beautiful location but horrible building conditions! The staff was nice, but unfortunately they cannot do anything about the conditions of this place. Please do not waste your money on this rundown motel as you'll be very disappointed, and possibly hurt or sick!!
- aceyh2021 (8/5): Great (though dated) spot - It’s no luxury resort, but it doesn’t claim to be. Staff was kind and helpful. It’s clean - my room was spotless, the bed was comfortable. There was very warm water in the shower and sink, no it wasn’t scalding hot, but it wasn’t cold. My room had a microwave and small fridge. I brought an extra blanket and I’m glad I did, so maybe consider that. I always sleep with an eye mask, and I use earplugs when I stay at any hotel. I did notice a fairly sizable gap under the door to the hallway so I rolled up some towels to block that light and sound coming in. I didn’t have any issues with sound throughout the night. If you’re skiing Monarch - I highly recommend this very adorable and convenient spot.

Pokoj bohužel neměl skoro žádné vybavení a v hotelu nefungovaly mimo sezónu žádné služby a vzhledem k tomu, že se nacházel uprostřed ničeho, tak to bylo celkem škoda. Ani kávovar nefungoval.

I wouldn’t doubt that she beats her children and elderly parents. She fraudulently charged my credit card and would not return my money. I’m going to report this place to the BBB. Absolutely nothing. Stay away.

- Laura (4/5): - When I first looked at the photo of the exterior , I was reminded of the hotel in ‘The Shining’ The desk clerk had the vibe of a stoned elderly hippy and had to call someone else to take my credit card info. The lovely views of the mountain were a plus. The 1970’s decor did distract from dingy towels, etc The construction has a wrap around balcony which can be entered from any room but definitely did not feel secure. The graffiti by the entrance is off putting I’m sure this is an affordable ski lodging base for groups of young people and families. On arrival and departure other putative guests stopped us to ask if the hotel ‘was okay’ … of course we knew why the gentleman who asked upon our arrival was asking after meeting the desk clerk. On departure, we answered by saying ‘we’re still alive’

- Chastity (6/5): - The evening staff was friendly and professional. The morning staff was non existent. If you want breakfast it is a limited menu for about $13 + per person plus a 20% gratuity added. The room was not clean. There was sticky stuff all over the night stand that looked like spilled soda. The bed was not comfortable and room stuffy. The hot water was Luke warm at best. However, the location and views are wonderful. We loved the area. The hotel is in bad need of maintenance and renovation. Also note there are no options to purchase or get milk or other vending items or snacks. We were traveling with a toddler and asked for milk but was told they did not have any. We would stay again for an overnight stay because we love nature and like the location, but I would not recommend for longer stays or if you are looking for comfort.
- sarahrW4087OQ (10/5): Cool Nostalgia…Comfortable…Great food. - We didn’t know what to expect. We booked this last minute on a motorcycle trip from Arkansas. We had no idea Salida would be completely booked this time of year. This hotel is like a walk back into the 1980s. We are loving the cozy nostalgic feel and although we do see where some repairs could be made we hope they don’t remove the 70s/80s vibe. The staff has been excellent, the bed was super comfortable and the food at the restaurant was great. We enjoyed the respite from town after the end of a long day. I do workout on trips and the gym has 1st generation Nautilus equipment that I’m sure has been here since the lodge opened. I loved every second of working out on it. I’m just sad I didn’t know to bring my leg warmers! The pool looked nice and clean. The laundry facilities were down as well as the hot tubs. We just washed clothes with the locals in Salida while having coffee. We loved every second of our stay and we sure hope this lode makes it another 50 years with a few upgrades.
- Jeremy (4/5): - Seemed straight outta 1988 and hadn't had much for maintenance or updating. The whole Lodge smelled of Marijuana, there were cameras everywhere, making us uncomfortable. Hot tubs were out of order. Awkward ceiling access panels. There was a breaker panel in the room and was missing breakers so sometime could touch the buss bars if they tried. The elevator lcd panel was missing and many lights flickering throughout. No receptacles available in the room to charge devices. Parking was OK, but there seemed to be parking out back that might've been more secure but we were told "No" about parking back there.

- 131kanem (6/5): Nice Hotel, clean - Nice hotel. It’s a bit dated, older generation may find some nostalgia in the layout and atmosphere. Staff was nice, rooms and hotel were very clean. My family enjoyed their stay, but unless your mountain biking, hiking, or star gazing in the area, it’s bit far from town (Salida). We stayed during the summer, winter may be different if you’re skiing.
- Brianna (10/5): Enjoyed our stay! - clean rooms, comfy beds, free kuerig machine for coffee in bed, beautiful backyard area with a pond and bridge that leads to the mountain for a hike. Delicious breakfast and dinner restaurant inside. A bit outdated everywhere but the rooms and dining area. The hot tub was in the process of being fixed when we checked in so we couldn’t use it for our one night.
- Keith (8/5): Good place to stay in a great location. - This was my second time to stay at MML, and it has been good both time. This time I was traveling with my grown son (his first trip to Colorado in the summer), and we had adjoining rooms. Worked out great! A couple of the ice machines weren't working.
- Erik (6/5): If you’re going skiing at Monarch or it’s on your way to another destination it’s good enough to sleep. I just won’t eat - Clean and the location worked well for us for this trip. While the room was clean the property is old and rundown. We had breakfast and my chicken fried steak was inedible. I could barely cut through part of it and the half I couldn’t even cut. On the other hand my wife had a pretty good omelette.

- Amber (8/5): - The views were gorgeous!!! The windows opened so we could have the fresh mountain air right in our room. It was an amazing location It was a little outdated. There wasn’t much staff around. We needed help checking out and no one ever actually came. There was a dead mouse floating in the pool.
- neciew2025 (2/5): Horrid - We had reservations at this Lodge thru AAA which meant the AAA age t or us had ever seen the place. We paid 1200 for 6 nights we got there today after an 18 hour drive I go in to check in some man that I had to call on a 2 way radio came up to the desk then he called I’m assuming the woman that owns the place checked with her gave her my credit card number which we had already paid for this in full. So he proceeds to show me the rooms, cracked windows, rooms smelled like urine and there was no air conditioner. I ask him where is the air conditioner he said “your in the mountains you don’t need it” so I go to the truck discuss it with my husband I go back inside and ask for a refund well the man had to call the woman again on the phone she never came to desk I told her that was not the rooms we had paid for and I wanted a refund she said “well since you are not very nice you can call your AAA agent and let them handle any refunds I am not helping you at all, and your AAA agent went thru Expedia” needless to say the place is a dump and needs a match or a bulldozer
- Shawn (3/5): The most expensive dive I’ve ever stayed in. - The coffee. The bed was lumpy, the curtains were broken and I had to jimmy rig them to get them fully closed. The adjoining door between the next room was paper thin.

We left this place as soon as we arrived and decided to reserve a different place in Poncha Springs. Needs to be renovated.

- chane (4/5): Was Good hotel, no front desk staff anymore! - Stayed here 3 times now. Only the first time was great! The hotel itself is nice and has nice mountain views. Good internet. Problem is the past 2 times there is no front desk worker. Some old maintence man eventually comes to the desk, then he has to call someone to check people in. He said he cant operate the computer and check people in. last night took 10 minutes as the person he called did not answer right away. i was going to stay there again next week friday, i booked on there website. today i decided to switch trip to Thursday, found there is no way to cancel or change on there website. I have called this hotel at least a dozen times all through out today and they do no answer, the calls go to a call center and they take my info and no one calls back. i also emailed and no reply. If i ever get ahold of them i just going to cancel now and book my Thursday night stay somewhere else. This place has no front desk staff anymore. first time i stayed a really nice helpful lady was working the desk, past 2 times no one there!
- clloomis1634 (6/5): Worth the price but tired - After a grueling six hour drive {no fault of the resort} I arrived ready to relax and soak in the advertised hot tub. Upon check in I was informed it was broken. Of course it was. The manager said she would deduct ten percent from my bill. I checked my Capital one card and no deduction was made. I did use the pool which was nice, Also the food in the restaurant was good and reasonably priced. It did come with a mandatory 20% tip. The menu is pretty limited. Over all the place has definitely seen better days. The carpet looks ancient and some of the paint is chipped and missing. The ice machine on my floor dd not work so I got ice in the lobby. The room was quiet, clean and has a balcony that extends all the length of the floor so others can walk by your glass door. It has curtains for privacy. It is at 10,790 feet so if you have heart or lung issues it may not be the best for you.

- Rebecca (8/5): - You don’t stay here for the quality of the property, you stay for the amazing view and convenience to great hiking. It’s definitely a facility caught in the 1980s but the views and places to explore are worth it.
- Shelli (8/5): - Property outside was beautiful with Hummingbirds galore!! Room nice and comfy bed...however, I didn't like the check in process where front desk calls someone and reads my credit card info out loud to the person on the phone-in front of other guests-even though we prepaid!!!
- Arla (4/5): - The property is a 1970's gem. Not much has been updated since it was built. It was super quiet and the beds were super comfortable. It recieved such a low rating due to staff. There wasn't any! We got in just after 11pm. There was no one to be seen. We called on their radio, walked around searching for a deak clerk. We tried calling the number to the hotel and spoke with reservations a on the phone who tried multiple times to contact some one to help us check in. It was 1:20am before we got in the room. This morning was not any better. The only employee on site was the chef for the restaurant who told me that no one would be available to hear my complaint until 3pm. Overall if your looking to party and run carelessly around a place this is the one to go to. No one is around to stop you. It would be a great place if the got some caring staff. The view and the bed was worth the money.
- Geoffrey (7/5): Nice location, questionable service. - Good location. Good views. Large, comfortable rooms. The hotel is not signed. I drove past it a few times before I decided to pull in to ask if the building was the Monarch Mountain Lodge. There isn't much staffing. I had use the phone to call someone to come check me in. After a wait of about 5 minutes, a gruff maintenance man finally came up to hand me some keys. I wasn't sure if he really knew how to check people in, but it seems to have worked out okay.
- Katy (2/5): Terrible! - When we arrived, there wasn’t anyone in the lobby front desk area. But however, there was a note to use the walkie talkie to let someone know we were there to check in. We finally were checked in and given a key. A real key. Our room was in the basement. The room was very dirty. The toilet had poop in it. It wouldn’t flush. The bed looked like something out of the 70’s. I strongly suggest rethinking about staying here. It was gross!

- Ralph (6/5): Other than that, it was really quiet. We slept great great view. - The property was quiet. That was what we really enjoyed. Only thing was no help. If you needed it what made this property enjoyable was the maintenance guy took charge was able to give us everything we needed helped us checked in when there was no reception the whole time we were there. No reception at the property all vending machines were broken. They don’t have air-conditioning, but you’re high enough in the mountains when it was cold, you can open your windows and your room will be cold in the morning, which was great.

- Lara (10/5): - The balcony view was beautiful. It's open, making it easy to connect with other guests. The space is quiet, clean, and faces the mountains at the back of the property. We especially enjoyed watching the many hummingbirds at the active feeders. One downside is that there's no way to control the temperature in the room. One of us slept well, while the other woke up feeling hot. If you prefer a cooler sleeping environment, consider bringing a portable fan—and don’t forget an extension cord. Overall, we would definitely stay here again.

- Kirsten (8/5): Great value, very cute, would stay again - I loved the location as well as the value for the money. It’s hard to fine a hotel for less than $200– especially one that is clean and staffed by nice, normal people. Water didn’t get very hot, no a/c, not very comfortable pillows
- Reda (4/5): - While the check in process was fairly easy and welcoming, make sure to not walk out of the far exit on floors 3-5 to the outdoor stairwell because the doors will lock behind you and you will be stuck outside above the 3rd floor with no phone service. Banged on the door for 30 minutes before I could get someone to let me inside and the front desk lady said that it’s an exit only and then you have to jump off the 4th floor if you wanna get out, so good luck.
- Mary (6/5): - The location is a challenge for anyone running a hotel. Not in a community and at a very high altitude, it's got to be difficult to keep up. It does feel like investment dollars are needed. The only complaint we had was there is ZERO signage for this hotel right now. Not sure why, maybe waiting on a replacement, but not even a piece of paper in the window telling you this is a hotel.

Staff was friendly and informative. The place itself is a little outdated but it was ok! It had a pool, a gym area, a sauna, and hot tubs with a view. Very nice place. 😊

- Sean (7/5): The perfect pre-hike stay - Good location up in the hills, very quiet area. Unbeatable value for a summer pre-hike stay. Came in late and check in was a breeze. Could use some updates and there was a beeping in the hallway throughout the night. But didn’t impact our sleep.

The check in hostess was super friendly and amazing (the biggest redeeming value). I would definitely ask for third floor or above as third was the main. Just a little creepy overall. Sheets were clean. Everything else was pretty old. I was trying to stay near Buena Vista and it comes up on Expedia as if it were in or near Buena Vista but it’s 40 minutes away.

The room was comfortable as was the bed. We checked ice machines on 2 floors, neither one worked. Finally found one that did by the lobby.

- Verified traveler (8/5): Cute and Quite, but outdated - We enjoyed a nice and quiet stay. Rooms and Lodge in general seemed very outdated, but clean. We stayed at a time that was not very busy so staff seemed very minimal, It was hard to find someone when we needed anything. Ice machine did not work. Bed was comfy and water was hot with good pressure. Very much enjoyed wondering around the property and taking in all the natural beauty of the area.

- Erin A (6/5): Used to be a Nice Place - This hotel has so much potential and was probably a wonderful place about 20-30 years ago. It is in much need of repairs. There were ceilings about to collapse due to water damage. It could use a good cleaning (dead flies in the window sills). I understand we were going into the "off-season" but the staff was a skeleton crew. They were however very nice.

- Michael (6/5): If I were to recommend it to a friend I'd say the hotel is so-so, but the proximity is worth it. - Obviously the skiing was great. The room did its job. We just wanted a place to crash so we didn't have to drive back down the mountain and max out our time on the slopes. The hotel was understaffed. I think the maintenance man checked us in after some awkward back and forth with the janitor.
