Patricia and Charles (10/5): - Hotel Sant ‘Anna is in a great location close to Vatican City, the metro, and many restaurants & tourist shops. We were comfortable and had space for our family of four. The hotel is nice, clean, quiet, and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only downside was the annoyance of having to walk past the restaurants hawkers (with their high-pressure sales pitch to lure in you and others) who on the street in front of the hotel, but that was the trade-off for convenience.

Manions (10/5): Perfect base for a relaxed stay in Rome - This was our 4th stay at Hotel Sant'Anna. Obviously, we love this place. The location is perfect. Around the corner from St. Peter's and the Vatican Museums. Castel Gandolfo is at the other end of the street. You're a very comfortable stroll from Piazza Navonna, Trastevere and plenty of other sights. Less than 5 minutes to the nearest taxi stand, and maybe 7 minutes to the nearest Metro stop. The street in front of the hotel is pedestrian-only and filled with restaurants, gelato places, and small shops. The staff is very friendly and always helpful with any requests before and during your stay. The breakfast is just what we need in a nice setting. The rooms are immaculate and a good size. There's a tastefully decorated sitting area in the hotel for when you're worn out from sightseeing and just want to sit and relax. And remember to say hello to Nina, the owner's awesome puppy who hangs out in front most mornings!

If you don't need a gym or a pool or a glitzy restaurant but a friendly, elegant,well-run base very close to the Vatican, this is ideal. This was our second visit and we would not hesitate to return. The lack of an evening restaurant is not a problem. We enjoyed a very good dinner at Arlu which is right next door.

263margaretk (10/5): Lovely hotel near the Vatican - My room was lovely, comfortable and immaculate. The small elevator was a welcome convenience. Breakfast was European plus American items such as nice made to order eggs. Breakfast area was comfortable and is adjacent to a small courtyard with tables. Communication with the staff prior to visitng was excellent and they were very helpful with directions, taxi, recommendations, etc. The street in front of the hotel is pedestrian -only with cafes occupying the space. Many dining options, shops, and of course the Vatican are an easy walk from the hotel. I highly recommend.

theresacatlin (10/5): Highly recommended! - This hotel was perfect for me. The pedestrian-only street is a huge plus. It is literally lined with restaurants, gelato places and souvenir shops. Dinner was a cinch, which was very much appreciated after long days of sightseeing. And best of all - it made this location quiet. I did have a room at the back of the hotel. If you're a light sleeper like me, you might want to ask for that. The location was ideal for me. It was only a 10 min walk to the meeting spot for my 7:15 AM Vatican Museum / Sistine Chapel / St. Peter's tour. It's close to Castel Sant'Angelo and a 2 mile walk to Trastevere, where I had a food tour. Walking "home" at dusk from Trastevere along the Tiber River was memorable. I also walked to and from the Spanish Steps from this hotel - 6 miles round trip and full of unforgettable sites. The hotel staff was helpful, friendly and considerate. This was my sixth hotel in Italy and I found my room to be one of the best I stayed in: it was spotless, and the bed was very comfortable. I appreciated that there was ample open shelving, a good closet with lockbox, plus a little desk. The room was not large, but I didn't need that. I found it cozy and comfortable. I also appreciated that I could open the windows for fresh air. The bathroom was the best I'd experienced during my 2 1/2 weeks traveling in Italy; it was attractive, well equipped, with great lighting and counter space. The breakfast was ample and varied in the attractively decorated lower level. I highly recommend it. Out of all the hundreds of hotels in Rome, I am so glad I chose this one. I would choose it again for its location, cleanliness, amenities and the helpfulness of the staff.

It's on a pedestrian street with a 5 minute walk to St. Peter's Basilica and a short walk to the Vatican Museums. The rooms are spotless and very nice. The staff is wonderful and always ready to answer our questions. It is also reasonably priced. Hotel Sant Anna has become our home away from home every time we come to Rome! We would not stay anywhere else.

Michael (8/5): Good location! - We booked this hotel as it was close to Vatican City and was a recommendation. We enjoyed the hotel. No restaurant or bar but they exist in abundance within walking distance. The one issue for us was no AC and we were facing the busy pedestrian/cafe area and had to keep window open but lights and noise were an issue. Desk staff was very helpful giving directions and scheduling a car for us.

We would love to stay there again when we travel back. The location is so convenient to the Vatican and the streets are so filled with Roman life happening.

Linda (10/5): - Excellent location to walk to the Vatican, Castel Sant'Angelo and even across the bridge of the river Tiber. Right next to many delicious restaurants, Gelato and pizza. McDonalds is right on the corner which makes it a great location for Uber pick up. Rooms are nice and spacious enough.

225alexandrep (10/5): Beautiful hotel just outside Vatican City limits - Me and my family stayed on this hotel for a short vacation during the second week of February. The hotel is located in Borgo Pio, a few hundred meters from St. Peter’s Square. And just a 20 min. walk to the center of Rome. The building is lovely, clearly restored from an ancient building, preserving nice architecture signs from a past century. The decoration does not fail as well to transport you to those times. Rooms are clean, with just the right size. The breakfast is good having nice pastries to taste from. All the staff were really friendly to us and very keen to assist you. Thank you! Ciao

They allowed us to store our bags for a few hours after check-out when our flight out of Rome got delayed, which was greatly appreciated. The room itself was clean and well-appointed with a comfortable bed, and the bathroom was modern! The hotel itself had a lot of character and was close to the Vatican and tons of restaurants and shops. Grazie mille!

TravelinMousie (10/5): Clean & Comfortable Stay Around the corner from The Vatican! - I chose this hotel based off of its reviews and because it was located within hopping distance of Vatican City. I didn't know what to expect but from the moment I entered the hotel, I could tell it was something special. When I got into my room I was surprised at how spacious it was! I should also mention it was SUPER CLEAN. This is a 3 star hotel, it does not have "bells and whistles" but you really don't need that. Everything you truly need, you have here (plenty of space, a clean room and bathroom, towels, and a comfortable bed) and there are plenty of great restaurants and souvenir places nearby. A bit of a walk to get to the major tourist attractions, but that's part of the fun, right? I thought so, and enjoyed my walks. It gives you a way to explore more the town. I found the staff at the hotel to be pleasant and helpful and have absolutely no complaints. They also arranged transportation for me to collect me and drop me off at the airport.
stevesvm (8/5): Comfortable mid-price hotel in a great location - The period between Christmas and New Year is peak busy time in Rome. So, a price of 240EUR/206GBP (inc taxes) per night for a small double is not unreasonable. Bedroom was very clean and comfortable (although lots of mirrors!); staff were all helpful and friendly, and the breakfasts had lots of choice. If we were here in summer we would definitely have used the small patio garden. Location, right by Vatican, is excellent, although buses and metro always involved a longish walk one end or the other. We really enjoyed the local restaurants (Passepartout, Passetto di Borgo and Tonnarello around the corner). Plus tea time treats from the Gelateria just next door and Caffeteria di Borgio. As we had visited Rome a couple of times previously we avoided the 'big' attractions - highlights for us were our day trips out to Tivoli and Ostia Antica, and our morning walk in Villa Borghese was just heavenly, compared to the nightmare crowds later in the day around Trevi, Pantheon, and Piazza Navone.

LenaMichele111 (10/5): "Take That" in Rome! - My friend and I recently spent a fantastic few days in this beautiful city. Loved everything about the hotel. Our room was bright and clean and had a lovely bathroom. All staff were friendly and welcoming, and the gentlemen on reception were always helpful and polite. Breakfast is served in a basement room that is very pretty, and there's a good variety to choose from. The hotel is within walking distance of Vatican City and St Angelo castle. The Coloseum is a good taxi ride away. There are a few restaurants along the street where the hotel is situated, so it's quite busy during the day, but by night, everything is completely closed and extremely quiet. If you're looking for any kind of nightlife,it's definitely a taxi ride away! Having said that, help was always on hand. We were given advice on where to go, and a taxi was called for us whenever needed one. Highlights...Vatican City, breathtaking! Trevi fountain, walking the city and the people of Rome in general. Had a wonderful time at this pretty, intimate hotel. Thank you Sant' Anna for a fantastic stay!

Hotel had air conditioning which was great for the warm weather. Many restaurants located right on the street outside the hotel. Check in was easy. Room was very comfortable and clean. We enjoyed our stay for 3 nights.
John (10/5): A lovely old and serene Roman hotel - Sant'Anna is lovely. We had a wonderful stay in this beautifully presented 16th century hotel. Our room was even better than described online. It is very close to the Vatican and only a few minutes stroll from St Peter's. The hotel staff are all really professional and friendly. Marcello made us most welcome and took care of everything we asked about. We loved meeting Nina the dog who calmly dozes near reception and gracefully brings a cozy ambience to the hotel! One of the nicest hotels we've ever stayed in.
kristin (10/5): Excellent service - The customer service is exceptional. Marcello at the front desk helped us arrange for transportation going to the cruise port and back. Everyone was just so nice. The hotel is perfect if you want to stay near the Vatican and many great restaurants around. Thank you so much Marcelo for kindness.
Robert (10/5): Would stay again - Hotel is convenient as to is very close to Vatican and other attractions. Hotel is historic structure built in the 1500s. It was refurbished appt 1970 and has all the modern features a traveler would want. Staff is very accommodating and helpful. Lots of restaurants are close by. Would stay there again.

Valerie (10/5): Great Location! - Great location! Just a short walk to Vatican. Believe our room was upgraded to include a balcony! Faced pedestrian street but very quiet! Great restaurant options on pedestrian street. When used to sleeping with a bed topper, did find bed a little hard at first, but once asleep, didn’t notice it! Great breakfast with all we needed. Service at front desk was awesome!
Gary (10/5): - We were happily surprised with hotel. Great with party larger than 2. Bedroom we stayed in had two twins and a queen. Perfect for us. I had little expectations on the breakfast, but the scrambled eggs made fresh in the kitchen may be the best I have ever tasted & pastries were excellent! We will utilize again in Rome. Perfect location if Vatican is a priority.

352renes (10/5): A gem near St. Peter's - Nice spacious room, very comfortable bed, and spacious shower. We were really surprised and delighted by this hotel! Staff was super friendly. Breakfast was delicious with a lot of variety--eggs and bacon, croissants, toast, jams, cereals, fruit, and coffee made to order. There's a nice interior outdoor garden patio that I know we would have enjoyed if we were not there in winter. This hotel is literally a 1 minute stroll from St. Peter's Square. We would have had to walk farther if we had roomed in the Vatican's guest house! The hotel is on a nice car-free street with a small but delicious gelato shop on one side and a fabulous restaurant, Arlu, on the other side. About a 10-15 minute walk (depending on your pace) to the Metro station.

Sidney (8/5): Nice Friendly Hotel with excellent breakfast - This is a small hotel with nice rooms but not a lot of options. There were very few rooms with bathtubs.Rooms were on the small side and despite being a little warm outside, there was no AC option. We had to open the window. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was wonderful.

Peter (10/5): - The hotel is perfectly positioned only 5 minutes from the Vatican. Admittedly the hotel is slightly tired but doesn’t in anyway distract from everything it offers for a visit to Rome and makes you feel very comfortable. There is an abundance of restaurants and small shops within a few steps so don’t be distracted and give it a try

Verified traveler (6/5): Hotel Near Vatican - Fair hotel for our trip to Italy and specifically for a visit near the Vatican. The hotel does feel aged and could use some updates, but it met our basic needs.
Mark (10/5): A super hotel to stay at - We were very happy with our accommodations. Clean with excellent desk service. In fact. The desk service was super. Arrangements for taxi's and general information was much better than I ever expected. I think the highest compliment I can make is that we would stay there again. No reservations about a return visit.
Kathleen (10/5): - This was a hidden gem! So close to the Vatican and all the wonderful restaurants literally next door! There has also the best gelato shop right next door to the hotel. Room was very clean, AC was nice and cold! Had a wonderful time and if we ever go back to Rome, I would absolutely stay again

Peggy (10/5): - Staff are amazing, food is so delicious. Don’t let the exterior fool you, that is just historic buildings. The interior is so pretty, everything you need is in the room and a complimentary bottle of champagne. Of course it’s Rome so noisy streets at night but the hotel can’t help that, it’s an atmosphere anyway. The beds are way firmer than I’m sure most Americans are used to but after walking around all day that doesn’t even matter! The staff are incredible, really the friendliest and so welcoming. They hold your luggage, help with directions and are happy to chat.
Nicholas (10/5): - Sant Anna is in a fantastic position to explore the city. It’s small and chic. About 2 minute walk to the Vatican and a ten minute walk over the river to the centre. Staff were friendly and helpful. All in all an ideal place to stay when visiting Rome. Would be more than happy to stay there again.

NorrieT (10/5): A GEM OF A PLACE - Lovely, comfortable, hotel right next to the Vatican City and within easy access of many of the city’s other tourist attractions. Restaurants abound nearby (immediately outside on the street) and it has the added advantage of a gelateria (ice-cream shop) right next door. Immaculately clean with large rooms and an excellent bathroom and shower. Very tastefully furnished and decorated with a large comfortable bed. Front desk manned by the loveliest people. Perfect for any kind of stay, but especially if you plan to do a Vatican visit (essential for even non-Catholics). TIP….book an early morning, small (6-people), tour. Cannot recommend this hotel more highly. It made our Rome experience.
Bora (10/5): - Awesome location. Rooms were big and plenty of space. Hard to find this big of a room in an European hotel. Plenty of great restaurants on the same street. We are coming back to Rome in 3 months and will definitely stay here again.
Paul (10/5): - Very convenient to the Vatican, about 10 minutes from both the St. Peters plaza and the "rear" museum entrances. Loved the old charm quality of this boutique hotel. Included breakfast was complete & tasty. Staff was very friendly & helpful. This pedestrian street is lined with multiple restaurants, shops, and delicious gelatto next door! Taxis came right to the corner, 50 feet grom door. Really, it was perfect.
Doreen (10/5): Quaint stay for Vatican Visit - Excellent location for visiting the Vatican. It is a quaint place to stay, with super helpful staff. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, the best scrambled eggs I have ever had! The beds were quite firm. I would definitely stay here again the next time visiting Rome. It is on a street generally closed to traffic with lots of restaurants and shops, so it’s super convenient for most anything you might need. A 2 block walk and you are entering St Peters Square. Really loved it! It is also an easy walk for other sites as well.

Staff was friendly and helpful with local attractions, restaurant options, and tips getting around. Also, best gelato in Rome is next door.

It was still getting good ratings, so we decided to use this as our base in Rome for a return trip with our daughter and granddaughter. We were not disappointed. Every bit as good as the last time: The rooms had all been updated and the staff were as helpful and cheerful as ever. Great place to stay and a very convenient location near St. Peter’s Square.

mauigoer5060 (10/5): Wonderful Stay at Hotel Sant Anna - We had a wonderful 4 night stay at the Hotel Sant Anna. This was our second time staying here and we would not stay anywhere else. The hotel is right near St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museums. Marcello and the rest of his staff were always very helpful when we had any questions. We had a very nice room and a modern bathroom. We also enjoyed the buffet breakfast in the morning. They had a very good selection. We are already planning a stay in Rome next year and we look forward to staying at the Hotel Sant Anna again. Grazie to everyone who made our stay so enjoyable!
EMarq (10/5): Really nice place to stay - Wonderful hotel! The staff is exceptional and kind. The hotel is beautiful and well-appointed. Located just a couple of blocks from Vatican City, we found this to be a wonderful place for us. Additionally, the entire hotel is covered with wonderful smelling flowers which is a nice welcome. (Only thing to note is that there are not USB chargers in the rooms so you will need a convertor if coming from the US. That was the case with the other hotel we stayed at, too.)
Thomas (10/5): - This hotel is a must in the Vatican City area. The property is the embodiment of what you think of with Italy (cute boutique feel, lively outdoor restaurants lining the streets, etc). The staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Overall incredible stay!
Sherpa41232025482 (10/5): Blessed in Vatican - Hotel is very conveniently located...near shops, restaurants, Basilica of St Peter, Sistine Chapel and the likes..it was easy to take taxis to go outside Vatican. Elevator was a bit small but it was otherwise a "useful sight" for us with luggage. Room was spacious and airy..very comfortable. Most of all, staff at reception were super friendly and very helpful.
Peter (8/5): Good on balance - Though the street is pedestrianised it is sometimes noisy. Air con as with other hotels in Italy is not available during the Spring so an open window means sleeping is not so easy. The plus is a fantastic location near the Vatican. We preferred to go out for breakfast rather than the hotel offering in the basement, though that was perfectly adequate.
