Guest Reviews
- Bastien (10/5): A unique and beautiful stay! - A truly unique and soulful property with an incredible atmosphere. Beautiful villas with lots of privacy, very warm service, excellent food, and a relaxing energy throughout the entire stay. The team handled everything with elegance and professionalism, and the place feels authentic, artistic, and deeply connected to nature. We were even lucky to be all alone for 2 days. This place is still a hidden gem which we booked at the end of our Mexican trip and this was the best choice. The off-road access is much more intense than expected and guests should be prepared for a real 45–50 minute drive on rough terrain. It is all fine with a good SUV, just be ready. That said, once you arrive, it is absolutely worth it and becomes part of the adventure and charm of the experience. So go for it!!
- David (10/5): -
- Philip (10/5): - Beautiful gardens and pool
- Diana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Abby (10/5): Amazing getaway in a quiet and remote part of Baja. We loved it! - The grounds are stunning and the owners, who are on site, are gems! We absolutely loved our stay. We wanted deep relaxation and that's what we got. The food was delicious!
- Christian (9/5): Superb -
- George (6/5): Great location but in need of an upgrade. - Great location and large rooms. Experienced a Lunar Eclipse on the beach. Can see whales from the room and nice birds around extensive property. Large pool. The property and rooms are now a bit dated and in need of investment. The bed was small and quite uncomfortable. Felt like living in someone's home with fixed meal times and set menu. Odd not to have locks on doors to room
- Jens (10/5): Exceptional - no windows in room
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional - Remote, quiet, gorgeous vistas over the coast, warm professional staff, filled with good books and interesting Mexican folk art, working fireplaces to warm up the cool winter nights, lovely deserted beach, migrating whales, endless stars at night.
- Debra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Claire (9/5): Gorgeous property, lovely accommodations, beautiful native-plant-gardens, ever-so-peaceful retreat -
- Allan (10/5): - Unique beautiful
- frederick (10/5): - Very private and chill. Will go back again!
- Cheryle (10/5): Beautiful and unique property - The property is gorgeous and every detail is perfect. The staff could not be any more accommodating. We stayed in the Penthouse Suite that has an amazing view of the coastline. A very special stay!
- Robin (10/5): Exceptional - This is the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in and I have travelled the world. The staff were supremely kind and helpful, the breakfast a delight and the facility unmatched. Oh, and did I mention the humpback whale show just offshore every day? Exquisite! We will be back.
- Michael (9/5): Superb - this place was amazing I celebrated Christmas here they welcomed me like I was family nothing...I would recommend allowing extra time to drive to place
- Tricia (10/5): - This place is incredible! If you are even contemplating staying here, think no more and book it! We travel all over the world and have found few places that can even compare to this place. It is out of the way and totally worth it.
We stayed in the stone beach cottage, and it was even more perfect than we imagined. It is a truly secluded beach (be prepared for lots of steps, but there is parking close to the cottage). The food is great, and you cannot beat the scenery. The staff is beyond amazing, especially Hector.
I would honestly give this more than 5 stars if it was available. We most certainly will be back.
- Cynthia (9/5): Superb -
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jennifer (10/5): Beyond wonderful! We will return if ever in that part of Baja again. - Our stay at Villa Del Faro was nothing short of magical. The grounds are stunning, with incredible wildlife that made our experience truly unique. We loved seeing all the birds perched on the cacti and were thrilled to spot coyotes and desert foxes running through the area. The landscaping is meticulously maintained, adding to the overall beauty of the property.
The buildings themselves are architectural masterpieces, and the artwork throughout is remarkable. We stayed in the Master Suite Penthouse with our two grown sons, and it provided plenty of space for our family. The serenity and quiet of the place made us feel like we had the entire resort to ourselves, offering a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
The staff was incredible—helpful, friendly, and always available to assist with any request. The food was delicious, with every meal being a delightful experience. Dining with the other guests added a pleasant social element to our stay.
One thing to note is the long drive on the washboard road to get to the villa. It can be a bit rough, and a few more signs would be helpful for navigation. However, this small inconvenience is far outweighed by the exceptional experience that awaits at Villa Del Faro.
We would certainly come again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a serene and beautiful getaway. The long bumpy road to get there was a bit nerve-racking, although it made the space more remarkable to see how they created such an immaculate oasis in the middle of the dry desert. A fair warning and a few more signs would be nice. Also making sure that guest know to bring lunch as they only offer breakfast and dinner. And there isn't much of anything nearby, one restaurant and no stores.
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mitzy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Catherine (9/5): Fantastic villa in the middle of nowhere - Peaceful and tranquil location The drive to it is along a very difficult dirt road
- John (10/5): Amazing get away in a stunningly lush and beautiful place; would return in a heart beat - Breakfast was ample and delicious: what a feast! Great coffee, hibiscus juice/tea, and also orange juice was provided. Perfect for fueling us for our outdoor activities of snorkeling and swimming. We were in the Bali Room, and the bed was quite comfortable, the shower heats up faster than mine at home, and the little frig was just large enough to stash our fruit in. The views of the hillsides and the Sea from the room were amazing. Loved having 2 patios: could have morning coffee and quiet time in the shade or the sun.
Everything is beautiful here. The gardens are lush, and there are many sweet little hidden spots to sit and enjoy. The rooms have lots of interesting decor that has been collected over the years. The Pool is large and beautiful, with great views of the Sea. Beach toys are provided, a swimmable beach is within walking distance, and miles of beach to walk or jog down. The staff is delightful and helpful. The elegance and quiet is simply stunning. 1. The drive, but with an SUV and air conditioning, we were good. 2. Some mosquitos, but that's what bug repellant is for and they do provide that throughout the property. Really, folks, there weren't any negatives.
- James (10/5): The perfect break from overcrowded Cabo and a chance to enjoy Cabo the way it use to be - Staff, owners, location, cleanliness, beach walks, watching the whales Nothing
- Anne (10/5): Hard to reach Paradise - Wow! Wow! Wow! No word or picture can make this place justice! To describe the immediate sense of relaxation? Hard. It’s a bit similar to jumping in a warm turquoise sea. Stress is dead upon arrival. (And no, the ocean there is not that warm. Just a comparison).
The place is paradisiac. The views. The art. The drinks. Iciel at the bar, Hector at…everything. There have kayaks and standup boards.
Do not go there, however, if you want ac, WiFi in your room, loud music, crowds, zillion of restaurants nearby. This is NOT that.
This is for people who want to slow down and immerse themselves in pure beauty. Who don’t mind a rough drive to a secluded place.
Rent an SUV! If you book an SUV and the car rental tries to give you BS like Europcar did ( “you are 15 minutes late, your suv is gone”), look for a suv with another car company. Avoid that Europcar, btw.
Anyway, we only had 2 nights and one full day and yet could unplug totally. No car noise. Watch whales jumping out of the ocean all over, tropical flowers, beautiful birds, artfully decorated buildings…
We went kayaking and ended up a few yards from a whale. One a the most magical moment of our lives. We walked on the secluded beach, went in the ocean, took a nap under their rotunda on the beach, watched sunrise, met other travelers, talked to the owners and some staff members…
We want to go back. That ou stay couldn’t last forever
- Daniel (10/5): Not an exaggeration, best place I’ve ever stayed. - Loved learning about the history of the place and the artists who built it. The food was great and we loved the staff. That we couldn’t stay longer
- Tavares (9/5): Perfect spot to disconnect, among nature - incredible location, on a hill with lots of Botanic plants, with spectacular sea views
feeling of being almost alone
good service
nice breakfast to reach the place, is a small adventure with bumpy and dusty roads
weak wifi (which forces you to disconnect, bring a good book ! :-)
- Stephanie (10/5): This is one of those hidden gems! It was created with lots of love and care. - The eco-hotel was beautiful inside and out! The hosts and their staff keep the grounds landscaped with stunning plants around every corner which attract all kinds of native wildlife. The hotel itself is a piece of artwork from the architecture to the decor. It’s different than any other place than we have ever stayed. It was really a treat for the senses! And the meals we ate there were delicious too. This is not an easy place to get to. You have to appreciate adventure to find it, but once you do… you won’t be disappointed! Make sure to rent a four-wheel drive vehicle.
- Martha (10/5): - A Roman Villa-like complex set among pristine beaches, reached by a dirt road. You feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, but are surrounded by luxury.
- Alicia (10/5): Magical villa about an hour from Cabo but a world away - Villa Faro is a family home that has opened its doors to visitors. Every inch of the property is a work of art. From the grounds, art, rugs, hand-carved furniture, tiles, library, swimming pool, food - every detail is stunning.
- Doug (10/5): Perfect romantic getaway - Amazing architecture in the middle of nowhere
- Stephane (2/5): The stone cottage is a just a pure robbery at more than 300 USD per night all included taxes -you can find better view, - The location, the sea view with passing whales every day No cleaning was done at all during 5 days, same sheets same towels, only cold water at the shower, ice was only changed one day when we asked
- Kevin (10/5): Magical retreat - Beautiful and peaceful location. The property is a very special off-grid compound that has been nicely adapted to an eco bed and breakfast. The food was excellent and all staff and fellow guests were lovely. If you like off-the-beaten path experiences you will be well rewarded.
- Gordon (10/5): A perfect place to unplug and relax. - The breakfast was very good, and the dinner was great. They have a four course dinner. The grounds and the beach has so much to see, it takes a couple of days to see it all.
- Charles (10/5): Exceptional - Made us feel like friends and family.
- Jacqui (10/5): Heqven on earth - True paradise, this is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. Peaceful, full of nature and glorious ocean views. It only has 8 unique rooms , all with views and crammed with gorgeous folk art the owner has collected over the years. They offer a homely dinner each evening g and have a small bar/ restaurant overlooking the sea. The rooms are cooked by fans and the ocean breeze- no air con and limited Wi-Fi but you go here for peace and to soak in the stunning views , bird life and other nature which is literally on the doorstep. This is a small and quiet hotel, it’s a drive down a long dirt road and is not close to other hotels/ restaurants. This made for a perfect, quiet escape but don’t chose if you like a lovely resort
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (10/5): - Amazing stay at Villa del Faro. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. The grounds and facilities are amazing. We went snorkeling at the nearby Cabo Pulmo and it was fantastic.
- Angela (10/5): Wonderful and peaceful stay - Beautiful property with nothing but nature all around. The breakfast was generous and delicious. The staff were helpful and available when needed. We didn't order dinner cause of the price but after having breakfast I imagine it was worth it.
- Luane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Clare (10/5): We can't wait to come back again next year - breakfast both days were excellent its hard to improve on perfection
- Donald (10/5): An awesome get away ! - Beautiful Estate, grand views, excellent meals, peace and quiet !
Loved the remote location, viewing the whales, manta rays and orcas. Enjoyed the horseback riding nearby, the snorkeling with sea lions and even the dirt roads were fun. Coffee with a beautiful sunrise from our front porch overlooking the sea of Cortez was memorable. The pool was refreshing if the surf was rough at the picturesque beach. An awesome get away !
- Christopher (10/5): Most amazing place ever - Absolutely everything. The property was amazing. Not a single thing other than we wish we had stayed longer.
- Rob (10/5): Peaceful and Relaxing - Friendly staff. Quiet and peaceful in a beautiful setting. Stayed in Bali room and it was comfortable - excellent view. Breakfast and dinner were delicious and plentiful. Poor wifi. Bring your own snacks as not much nearby for food.
- Kristine (10/5): Exceptional - An incredible place to stay! Beautiful, awesome location, amazing food and staff!!
We would highly recommend!!
- Meaghan (8/5): Very good -
- Brian (9/5): Superb - The place is beautiful, the owner's and host were very welcoming and the food was great. The Bali room was a unique experience and I would definitely go back. Nothing about the place itself - maybe some better directions - we took the inland route through Palo Escopeta as advised but on return we went the coastal route using directions on a blog, it;s much more beautiful and we were able to turn off onto a paved road after about 35 mins, it was much quicker too!
- Catherine (10/5): everything I wanted in a getaway. - the grounds the style comfort beauty and attention to detail. it’s unique and lush and inviting. the stone stairs and terra gotta floors were gorgeous as was the art and craftsmanship. Eddie was warm and generous with time. the bed was divine as was the pool nada
- Sas (10/5): Magical place to relax and unwind in Baja - I found Villa del Faro as a treat for the final nights of our stay in Baja and we were not disappointed. We stayed in the Stone Cottage on the beach and absolutely loved it!! Listening to the waves as you go to sleep is wonderful and being able to step straight out onto the beach for sunrise and whale watching was magical.
We also loved the grounds, the swimming pool, the breakfasts, the dinners, the chat with other guests, the hummingbirds, the list goes on. We could have stayed forever! We loved all of it
- Michael (10/5): We have travelled all over Mexico and the world and this is one of the nicest places - The property is absolutely beautiful and stunning. The views are breathtaking. The property feels like a luxury mansion style compound. The property is very quiet and private It is so vast that you really feel like you are by yourself if you want. The walk to the beach is beautiful amd prestine
- Curt (10/5): Exceptional - Exceptional service and facilities! So surreal and relaxing!
- Julia (9/5): Beautiful relaxing stay in a spectacular setting - spectacular setting, beautiful grounds and lush garden. Generous suite with multiple covered decks,, ocean view, outdoor kitchen. Total privacy. It felt more like visiting friends than staying in a hotel. Our outdoor bedroom had no screens, which made me a little nervous. We had the family suite and that may be particular to it.
- Alex (10/5): unique - unrivalled
- Victoria (10/5): - We LOVED staying in the Beach Cottage at Villa del Faro. The property is absolutely beautiful, the owners and staff friendly and so fun to talk to, and the food and drink amazing. We are planning to come back and bring friends! 10/10 would recommend.
- JOSEPH R (10/5): - Amazing eco-friendly hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Boutique hotel in every sense; there are only 8 casitas and we were the only guests for some nights. The staff attended to anything we needed and the dinners were divine. Can’t recommend this place enough.
- Sally (10/5): - Villa de Faro was 4 days of bliss. The villa and all the suites are breathtakingly beautiful. The level of taste that created the villa is apparent in every detail. It is small, elegantly casual, aesthetically built and decorated. We stayed in two casitas, the stone cottage on the beach for 2 nights, so much fun. And a large suite surrounded by gardens and overlooking the pool and sea. We could hear the whales slap the surface at night. Meals were beautifully prepared and served. The staff was a combination of family members and warm friendly hospitality pros. We were made to feel like honored guests from check in to departure. A real treat we will want to repeat.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Awesome!! If you want to feel like you are in a Hemingway book go here
- Dave (10/5): - Very remote and beautiful hotel. Words cannot describe the beauty of this gem.
Staff is very friendly and the owners make you feel at home
Will not hesitate to stay again. Every room is breathtaking
- Verified traveler (10/5): Gorgeous boutique hotel - I had a wonderful stay at Villa del Faro--I spent one night solo to recuperate after a girl's weekend in Cabo. The pictures don't do the place justice--it is absolutely gorgeous. The staff was friendly and helpful, the food and drinks were great, and my suite (Casa Azul) was private and comfortable. Unfortunately when I stay the weather didn't allow for much swimming, but I enjoyed relaxing by the beach with a book and listening to the waves. Note that this is in a remote area with no restaurants/entertainment in walking distance, if that's what you're looking for. I'd recommend Villa del Faro to anyone who want a beautiful and unique getaway.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel is amazing -- rooms are almost all private casas. Basically as good as a suite in a normal hotel, but with your own outdoor space. they have amazing plants and birds -- we had a hummingbird feeder outside our room, and the bird was so tame that it happily ate 12 inches away from me. Quick walk down to the beach. It's a bit tough to swim right from in front of the hotel, but you can easily walk to swimmable spots. Easy access to cabo pulmo and all the surrounding beaches and arroyos. Main drawback is that there aren't really many dining options nearby, especially as driving to cabo pulmo at night would take a while (dirt road, no street lights). I was incredibly happy with the stay, and it's really amazing if you're looking for something more isolated.
- Ken (10/5): Worth driving the road - Same as most of the other reviews, we were blown away by the villa. The road is an issue. I’m used to driving back roads in Canada and thought an ordinary front wheel drive compact would be fine. Turned out we made it in and out ok but it took twice as long as suggested and we were quite rattled on arrival. Should have rented a Jeep. That said, the place is magnificent and the food stellar. Good value too.
- Deborah (10/5): beautiful, remote, one-of-a-kind villa - If you love beauty, quiet, stunning night skies, sunrises over the ocean, and open air living, this place is worth the hour's drive on a bumpy dirt road. The Italian-Mexican style villa is a group of structures stitched together by pools and walkways and filled with excellent art. We chose the elegant palapa-style Alberca house with its large open-air living area and kitchen, enclosed bedroom, and 2 separate baths. Be prepared for off-the-grid remoteness (with internet), simple well-prepared food, and more sandy roads to swimmable beaches on the way to Cabo Pulmo, Arbolitos, and Frailes. The gracious hosts make it all work.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The environment was excellent. It was relaxing and unique. The staff was professional and made us feel like home.
- Russell (10/5): Wonderful Getaway - Very beautiful secluded location on Sea of Cortez in a very nice comfortable room. It is an hour's drive north above San Jose del Cabo, most of the drive on a dirt or gravel road. It is truly off the grid so very limited internet. Breakfast included and optional dinner very tasty. If you want the Cabo party scene or shopping do not come here. There are 8 units so you meet other guests and know their names. The units are in separate buildings with nice landscaping and several inviting places to sit outside. The place was built with a nice design that is tasteful and interesting, like a Spanish villa. Staff provides excellent service and are very friendly and welcoming. Our only regret is that we only stayed 2 nights.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A wonderful vacation destination - We just spent our entire spring vacation week at this wonderful "B&B - resort" - and returned home rejuvenated and with wonderful memories - all of them tied to this very special property and its beautiful surrounding landscapes and beaches.
This very small and remotely located property surprised us with many amenities typically provided by larger 4 star properties. Providing water, power and even Wifi in this remote location is amazing enough already, but beautiful architecture, tasteful decoration and lush gardens made our stay particularly wonderful and we enjoyed every minute there. The big pool and the beaches kept it interesting for our 2 kids.
The drive from the airport took us about an hour via the unimproved road - it is in decent condition, but I'd probably wouldn't want to drive it at night for the very first time.
Overall - Villa del Faro was a very special place for us and we might be back next year.
- Timothy (10/5): Villa del Faro is amazing. - I wish we had spent our whole trip here. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to experience this beautiful place. The staff was great, the food was delicious, and the views of the mountains and the sea were breathtaking. I felt relaxed and at home as soon as we arrived. I'd like to keep it a secret, but I can't. It is the perfect place to unplug, watch the whales and all the birds.
