Guest Reviews
- Antonio (10/5): Best choice of location in Austin - The location in SoCo avenue is fantastic, nice walks in the area and plenty of restaurants, bars and stores The shower pressure is too low
- Sapna (7/5): - Mostly good location and nice room Don’t clean room everyday for an expensive hotel seems rather odd to me. Water in the shower was like warm at best and nothing was done about it
- Sophie (9/5): I am sad the hotel won’t be there when we are back later this year. - Design and furniture were great and well considered. It felt independent the team were wonderful The really loud party was very loud as predicted but we’re looked after and given earplugs and an invite
- Amy (6/5): Nice centrally located hotel - Good location, friendly staff, nice pool A bit tired, maintenance issues with doors around the property, feels a bit bare . Rumor is that this hotel is closing and reopening under The Standard brand.
- Cristina (8/5): -
- Patricia (9/5): - Cama comoda, con sabanas y buenas almohadas de pluma, habitación amplia y baño tambien! Cerca del centro
- Karl (7/5): -
- Marinna (8/5): -
- John (10/5): Was good - Great hotel, very clean and comfortable. Would recommend.
- andreamh2 (10/5): Loved it! -- Coming back again - We loved this hotel. The location is unbeatable, within walking distance to everything. The staff was very kind and made us feel truly welcome. We were celebrating a birthday, and they placed a birthday card, some chocolates, and a bottle in the room. The hotel’s aesthetic and design are beautiful as well. There's also plenty of coffee shops, shops, restaurants in the area which is an always a plus. Parking was $45 a night -- which, given the location, we felt was fair.
- Karen (10/5): Love it! Will be back - Great location
Super chic interiors Pool was a mess.
Chairs messy and lots of leaves. Not so nice to look at from balcony
- Linda (7/5): Location is great.Employees were friendly and helpful. Room service food was good . - The location They never picked up my room service trays. I was on the same floor as the fitness center and someone was very loud at 6 am.
- Andria (9/5): Great location and set up for a group - excellent location and great amenities - from pool to restaurants. the bunk rooms were great for a girls trip and bathroom was spacious for getting ready. the front desk was very accommodating to special requests. the rooms were extremely dark. the HVAC didn’t circulate to the bunk room well so it got stuffy at night. showers with a partial glass shower wall are cold, provide no privacy, and make a huge mess.
- Juan R (10/5): -
- Ulani (9/5): The location is superb! - The location was fantastic, what a cool street and great coffee downstairs too. A bit of a hiccup with check-in, but it was acknowledged and dealt with very professionally. The beds are very soft - we understand it is a personal preference. But we really wish it was firmer!
- Gavra (10/5): Conviently chic place to stay on SoCo. - The property was very chic and Austin cool. The shower had a window open to the bed room.
- Stephanie (10/5): -
- Jennifer (9/5): Wonderful stay, no complaints. Would definitely stay there again. - The rooms were very comfortable. It was clean and peaceful. The staff were extremely responsive and helpful. They had a complementary gift waiting for us because it was our anniversary. Every request we made was honored. We were worried about noise because there was an NYE party on the first floor, but we heard nothing. We were a little disappointed with the south congress vibe. It’s gotten very commercial. But that has nothing to do with the hotel.
- Stephen (8/5): -
- Georgina (8/5): -
- Carl (9/5): - No coffee machine in room.
- rita (9/5): Good - It was a lovely priority and the staff were so kind attentive and friendly
Location was so good and close to fabulous restaurants and shopping The bed was amazing and so large but the pillows were too soft and did not suit us at all
- Logan (10/5): -
- Max (7/5): - Incredible location. Overall chic interior. The rooms felt a little rougher up with many scuffs, scrapes, and worn furniture.
- Margaux (9/5): Very cool place - The location is perfect ! The design of the hôtel is very nice The humididty in the rooms
- Rickey (10/5): Love it here! - Love the esthetic and location and size of the rooms. Check in could be quicker
- Azzam (6/5): -
- belle5683 (10/5): Well designed understanding Austin theme - This hotel was well designed understated Austin theme. We checked out the pool deck, but it was too cold for our liking. It’s an unheated pool. We enjoyed the walk ability of this hotel, but it is a distance from downtown Austin. $45 for parking at the hotel. Many food and shopping options located nearby.
- Lisa (6/5): - Great toiletries! Rooms too dark - need better lighting. No coffee machine in room. Pillows very uncomfortable.
- Peter Headington (8/5): -
- janet (9/5): -
- Koreski (8/5): -
- Margot (10/5): We loved our stay, the staff and facilities were great! The location is bonus for newcomers to TX - We loved our stay! Only issue is, the rooms should have a kettle and coffee machine, that is a very ordinary request for any great hotel room. No coffee machine/ kettle
- Kirk (10/5): highly highly recommended! - Excellent in every way! Right in the center of the south Congress neighborhood, which is vibrant with restaurants, boutiques bars, and easy access to other of the Chi Austin neighborhoods. The hotel is a bit larger than a boutique size but it's still retains the boutique sense of intimacy and luxury. The beds were incredibly comfortable to migrate the light. The staff was consistently helpful. A lovely pool deck. I would highly recommend this and plan to stay here anytime I'm going to Austin. Everything good!
- Jensoid (4/5): Tired - A conundrum. However, one we will not choose to experience again. We have a Love/Meh relationship with SCH. I believe, it's solidly part of the Meh that has overtaken SOCO. Do you really need 3 western themed, boot licking store fronts all next to each other? With SCH celebrating it's 10yr anniversary, I can only say one word regarding the accommodations. Uncomfortable chic. Overpriced, also comes to mind. This time we were in Suite 343, about a grand a night. Ironically, this was less than the SCH website when our travel agent booked this weekend for us with Expedia. However, she may be able to get better rates due to her profession.
Challenges with our room, were numerous. A couch that was impossible to get comfortable on with leather pillows with attachments to the metal frame, torn and non functional. The other couch was cute and in a brick hutch, but heavily worn seat cushions meant it was a challenge getting out off of and not extremely comfy either. Not very functional. No light in the little hallway when entering, created a very dark space where one couldn't really see what you put in the dresser drawers, without the aid of the good ol phone flashlight. Or perhaps there was a light, but have no idea how you would turn it on. In order to enter the suite, the door stuck and you needed to put your shoulder into it to open. And a bit of a heave to open it to get out. In the morning when I went to shower, I turned the handle, the entire handle fell off and crashed to the floor. I did manage to replace it and get it to function, which resulted in a luke warm shower at full on "Hot" setting. Although the faux patinated brass, maybe cool, it's not really efficient in function. TV's were large and there were actually 2 of them, but again, understanding how they worked was puzzling, but we eventually figured it out which remote did what. There was a large, railway tie posing as a table of sorts where the phone lived, but you had to be on your knees to really use it to call down for room service or when we checked out. One tree trunk thingy served as a bedside table, but if you deployed it, from underneath the bedroom area TV, it served somewhat as a obstacle to get out of bed to use the bathroom area. The misses, turned a trash can upside down and put a book on it for a Macgyver inspired table.
Somehow, we managed to book our Birthday Staycation weekend, when there were weddings both Friday and Saturday. The issue with that is both of the events had the wonderful bar lounge area booked for Cocktail hour and not accessible to other guests. The the lounge has been a favorite haunt for us over the past decade, that was a bummer and an item good to check on if you happen to want to book a stay here.
So what worked in the room? Well the bed was comfortable, plush. The view from the bed out of the wrap around windows looking towards the city down Congress Ave, was pleasant and a reminder how much Austin has changed since my move in '77. Little balcony was functional, although we didn't hang on it. The chairs and table could use a wipe down frankly. We enjoy staycations. At this price point, this suite couldn't compare to the quality that the Proper or Hotel Zaza offers, for instance, within the same approx price range.
What else worked? After dinner out, we were able to enjoy the lounge and as usual the barkeepers were wonderful and the place still has a very chill feel. We really enjoyed 7am'ish No Se Breakfast and room service lunch Burgers on Saturday. That space has wonderful light in the morning. The Valet, front desk and wait staff (Hi Emily) at No Se were great. They have good peeps working here, at least the ones' we encountered.. that has always seemed to have been the case.
We will visit the bits we like when we find ourselves on SOCO, although we find ourselves less likely to visit SOCO these past few years and leave it to the tourists who flood the area on the weekend. Things change, we get it.
- Laurel (10/5): Great stay decent price - Everything! Nothing!

- jessengee (10/5): Hip South Congress Lodging - We spent an extended weekend here and could not have been happier with our choice of hotels. This small-ish property is nearly always buzzing with activity. Our second floor room was spacious and featured a patio adjacent to the pool. The staff kept our room spotless during our stay. Our second floor location was quiet and the linens soft and plush. We opted for in-room coffee service, though free coffee is avaialble in the lobby daily. The lobby bar is not to be missed. Ashley and her co-workers are friendly and knowledgeable and fun to be around. They can whip up just about any cocktail you can think of from the fully stocked bar.
- Barbara (10/5): -
- thomrho (10/5): Great and comfortable. - Friendly, Clean, Comfortable in a great location. We stayed in a King room. It was very comfortable compared to most hotels. I wish we had looked to see what mattress they use. We stayed at the Driskill after this and missed the bed from South Congress Hotel. We would enjoy more light in the bathroom and bar soap.
- Katy (10/5): Great location - Located on south congress, close to lots of shops and food. Walkable to 6th street and bat bridge. Lovely roof top pool, nice way to spend the last day of our trip
Room and bathroom were huge!
- michelle (8/5): -
- Jordyn (10/5): - the room and all general areas were extremely clean and well maintained! the staff was overly kind and helpful throughout our 3 night stay - on numerous occasions at random various times of day! we've been raving about them all day on our travels home and would definitely stay again in the future!
- Hayley (10/5): - Amazing hotel right on South Congress! The staff was so friendly and incredibly helpful. The rooms are very comfortable, and we felt right at home. Very dog friendly as well. Parking was easy - valet or self park. Great location and easy walking to many shops/ restaurants/ etc. Highly recommend!
- Donald (9/5): -
- Michael J (8/5): - Love the look of the hotel. Great restaurants. Excellent service in all areas. The hotel is in a prime spot to check out a lot of shops, bars, restaurants and clubs. Safe neighborhood.
One caveat, what’s with the ice? Really missed having ice in the room.
- Melynda (10/5): - We loved our time at South Congress Hotel and highly recommend them! The pool and pool bar were great to have some relaxation and the staff of the hotel made us feel like VIP’s!
- Samantha (10/5): - Stayed at hotel with daughter for a concert. Staff very friendly and accommodating. They gave us great information on dining and shopping. Very attentive to my daughter and made sure she felt comfortable and welcomed. Super happy with overall service
- Tonya (10/5): - Modern hotel with multiple food options. The staff was wonderful!
- Aaron (10/5): - We love this hotel so much we’ve made it an annual tradition to stay when we visit Austin (a city with a LOT of great hotel options). This last visit exceeded our expectations in terms of the room and hospitality of the staff. I highly recommend staying here, especially if you would like to be within walking distance of great dining and shopping.
- María (10/5): -
- Joshua (10/5): - Great place for a staycation if you’re local. Enjoy the vibes of SoCo and east lake access for a walk.
- Marcelo (4/5): Bar Manager was Unprofessional - The bar manager was very unprofessional and tried to intimidate me They also put me in a handicap room and it was very uncomfortable
- Lisa (8/5): The hotel was adequate for our needs. - Location and staff It wasn’t super clean. The furniture in the lobby and room was very worn.
- Hanna (8/5): Great location on iconic main road - Lewis at the reception and Ashley at the bar were exceptional. Superb location, very good pool. Would stay there again
- Romain (10/5): Idéal pour découvrir le quartier branché Soco dans un cadre elegant - Le décor de la chambre, le personnel très serviable et agréable, la localisation. Rien
- Kristin (6/5): It was fine. Would only stay here again because the location is great. The bedrooms need a mirror and more space very c - Love the location, valet staff, check in and out staff The room was so tiny and we were given an ADA room, which the shower sprays everywhere and the floor was oily?
- maryama603 (10/5): Boss team visits on August 2025 - Amazing hotel, Professional team, great service.
We were there For Conclave of BOSS, With Team Members.
Easy checking, All staff smiling, Nice welcoming, Foods great, really quiet, peaceful atmosphere, near by Main Street, easy going to the airport and great location to visit the city, to many bars and restaurants in this area , Most of them have live music Bands.
I have a wonderful time in this hotel with my friends and Team Members.
I 110% recommend to stay in this hotel.
They have wonderful restaurant inside the hotel, Have a pool too on roof top.
Enjoy …
- Riccardo (2/5): - Noisy you cannot sleep
- jennifer (8/5): Stylish stay - Stylish and comfortable hotel. Almost too cool, the rooms have definite “mood lighting” and feel a little too dark to me! Nice pool, great bathroom.
- Verified traveler (4/5): An downgraded upgrade - I did not get the room I booked, a pool side room, but instead was told I was automatically given a complimentary upgrade. It sounded great to me until I realized it was the corner room overlooking and loud and busy street. I was told they were fully booked and unable to accommodate a room change until Saturday. On Saturday I wasn’t given enough time to decide or repack myself. Otherwise the pool staff, the bar staff and the housekeeping were highlights. I didn’t sleep much because of the road noise. I just wanted the room I booked.
- Julie (7/5): Really cool hotel in the heart of it all - Location. Very nicely decorated. Friendly staff. Fun bar and good restaurant for breakfast. Cute pool area Would have liked to have been able to cool down the room. We were hot sleeping. Courtyard was loud at night. The situation next to the bed was odd. Had to plug my charger into an extension cord which sparked when I did so.
- Barry Joseph (2/5): - Let’s start with the torn-up leather sofa in the Lobby and the temporary mobile AC. Upstairs the room overlooked an alley with dumpster, room was depressing and all night heard banging and bathroom drain gurgling. I wanted to go use the gym and it was the size of a coat closet, smelled of mold and drywall ceiling repairs were going on. Went to the pool and it looked like the size of a hot tub and that an out of control frat party happened the night before. Pool tiles smashed, missing and safety latter was collapsed and pulled up tiles and concrete! This was NOT the same boutique hotel as depicted in the photos online. I checked out that morning fleeing to a luxury hotel that made my trip to Austin enjoyable.
- Paula (10/5): -
- Laura (10/5): - Very comfortable stay. Checking in was easy, the area is a prime location for food, shopping, and fun, and is very walkable. I will definitely stay here again in the future.
- Trevis (10/5): - Enjoyed my stay, staff were amazing.
- Edward (2/5): -
- Edward (4/5): - Hotel would not assist me with reservation issues
- Niall (9/5): Excellent hotel. Would happily stay there if I were to visit Austin again. - Excellent hotel with a great location on South Congress.
Very friendly staff. nice bar and pool. Room was incredible.
- Eduardo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Burt (6/5): - Had to move rooms because the AC couldn’t cool room. The second room wasn’t much better, as it never got below 72. Get better AC in the rooms, it’s Austin in July. Also, the rectangular toilets were super weird and hard to flush. The staff was lovely and did their best.
- Karen (10/5): - Excellent staff.
- Pinar (10/5): - Very friendly and helpfull staff at all levels.
Housekeeping was excellent.
My only ask would be coffee in the rooms.
Otherwise , wonderful property and stay
- Meighan (10/5): - Love the location, rooms are clean and no funky smells. We changed rooms because the mattress wasn’t comfortable in the first room but the staff was very accommodating and there was zero issues changing rooms. Wish the bathroom lighting was a tiny bit brighter. Pool was lovely. Food at hotel was tasty, drinks potent.
- Christian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Georges-Eric (10/5): - .
- Tommy (8/5): - Good.
- NIEVES (6/5): - Parking 45 dlls at night
The bed was very soft
- Georgianna (6/5): - They charge you a daily fee for amenities (that they do not tell you about), do not clean the room while you are there, but on checkout day start knocking almost every 30 minutes starting at 8am - even though check out is at noon and you put out the do not disturb sign.
- lorena (10/5): Great Stay in the Heart of South Congress - Got it. Here’s the revised version without em dashes:
⸻
Had a great stay at the South Congress Hotel. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Loved the bar with its great selection and lively atmosphere. The common areas are very comfortable and perfect for lounging, working, or socializing.
The gym is well equipped for a hotel, with Peloton bikes and fitness mirrors (I believe from Mirror or a similar brand), which was a nice touch. The pool has a relaxed, low-key vibe that we really enjoyed.
Our room had a good balance of style and function. The only downside was the very dim lighting, which wasn’t ideal on a rainy Fourth of July weekend. Still, everything else more than made up for it.
The location is fantastic, right in the heart of South Congress and within walking distance of great shops and restaurants. Highly recommend.
- Alexis (8/5): - Wasn't given my reward credit, although had it in writing.front desk staff wouldn't honor it.gym facility is tiny and not much equipment.Treadmills run-down w/uneven tread.Room service ended @9pm unfortunately.expected more from such a hip area of South Congress in Austin.
- Dena (10/5): - Very nice hotel with great service. Location was perfect.
- Alicia (10/5): - Liked the location. You can walk to bars and restaurants. The pool was nice but calk coming off in the tikes a bit. Great service everywhere. We had snack and drinks at the pool. Room were nice and comfy water pressure not strong in shower but nice to have the soaps and lotions. A little W&T but that is expected. Dt and the lake are a short ride away. Plenty of shopping and food/drinks to walk to. Again service was great everywhere!! Thank you?

- Therese (10/5): magical stay! - all the staff were awesome!
friendly and fun, great travel advice. we needed some extra assistance and received it in plus!
Andy at front desk was a delight
Ashley at the bar was an alchemist making cocktails and made our evening a hoot!
The young woman at the pool was great as well’
- Laura A (10/5): - Wonderful hotel. Great customer service and perfect location! Will stay here again!
- Sara (9/5): Superb - Amazing location and great breakout spaces
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Very easy parking. Convenient location in Austin. Didn’t like the lighting in the room, especially the bathroom, where the lighting is all on one side of the face. No handle bars in the shower. Note that the water is very soft.
- Joseph (6/5): It was fine but will seek alternative in future - Location was great. The number of restaurants on property was perfect. Rooms were dark. Not enough lighting by the door. Bathroom had no exhaust fan. Ice had to be delivered to room. No bucket or ice machine that we could use. No vending machine or market on property.
- Nathan (10/5): - Great amenities like restaurants, bars, pool, location. Rooms are big and nice. Staff was attentive and helpful. Love this place.
- Javier (10/5): Exceptional - Beds are comfortable and spaced out. The bathrooms are great with the best water you can soak and shower with. The main couches of the tv room in several of the rooms from the large pool ones to the other rooms are not to par, they are uncomfortable and the back part slips.
- Helen (8/5): Loved it - Excellent location and spacious room. Lovely roof top pool area. The water never got hot in the shower . Ok for a couple of nights but would of been a problem for a longer stay.
- Randystocklin (1/5): Avoid at all cost - Spacious rooms, a comfortable bed, and the location was good. I travel a lot, and this is one of the worst hotel experiences I've had. I showed up at my room the night before a 4 am wakeup due to an early flight to find super loud music outside my window due to an event (DJ) that apparently happens every Thursday night. I called the front desk to explain my situation and inquire about the possibility of switching rooms. First, I was told that I was staying in one of the quieter areas, but the woman came back and said that the hotel was full tonight. I then asked if I could get a refund for the night so I could stay at another hotel and get a good night's sleep. And I was told that wasn't an option, but they would comp me breakfast. I was also told that an email had gone out announcing an event. An email means nothing unless it provides context around just how disruptive this could be for someone who's looking for a quiet night. How about a text that lets the guests know that for this particular night, it's going to be loud across the entire hotel? That makes a lot more sense to me.Anyway, there was a total lack of empathy and terrible service; I will not be returning to this hotel.
- Dominique (6/5): - Pictures are not representative of hotel condition.
- Jeffrey (10/5): Anniversary - Our 30th Anniversary Trip! Thank you to the staff and everyone that made this a perfect trip!! We’ll be back.
- Umut (9/5): Superb -
- Hugo (10/5): Great stay, lovely hotel, top location - would recommend. - South Congress Hotel was a great hotel. I was greeted by the concierge and made to feel very welcome. The place was nice - rooms were nicely decorated and the bed was big and comfortable. Good fitness centre, very close to the rooms. Fantastic coffee shop on site which was a big plus. Excellent location, right in the centre of South Congress, within walking distance of shops and restaurants. A short scooter ride or around 20-25 minute walk to downtown for sights and more. Would definitely come back. Nothing to complain about!
- Julia (10/5): Loved the location and cool vibe! - The location was great!! The hotel was pricey☹️
- Edmund (8/5): - The property is beautiful and the room was very spacious and stylish. However, the toilet didn’t work properly and the room and the bathroom, in particular, are not well lit.
