• Lorraine (8/5): Very comfortable and beautiful grounds, however, the lighting in the rooms and around the property need improvement. - The uniqueness , the beautiful grounds. We were in a cottage which was loved. However, the lighting in the room was really lacking. Our friends were in the main house and they also said the lighting was inadequate. The stairs for our cottage were wooden and extremely slippery. Again, no lighting. My husband slipped and fell when we were leaving our room to go to dinner.

Modest, clean rooms, not luxurious but well-enough appointed. Lovely option of a full dining room with a good dinner menu. Also a great bar to lounge in with coffee, wine or drinks. Romantic for a couples retreat!
• amywE3389EA (10/5): The perfect place to stay in Healdsburg - We have stayed in many Hotels including the Montage (a big disappointment) and hotels n the Square. A friend of ours recommended the Madrona and we’ve never looked back. This is our place and will be every time we visit Healdsburg. We’ve stayed in a variety of rooms and each one is a new delight. All the creature comforts you could ask for. The hospitality and attention to guests is outstanding. There is a gym, pool, restaurant and the best bar around. Breakfast is always delicious and included. The Madrona is also dog friendly. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. What is not to love. Thank you to the Madrona staff. You always make us feel like family. Proximity to winery’s and downtown is perfect and the staff is so willing to make great recommendations on anything you want to do.

The entire space had a perfect balance of maintaining the charm of the aged manor while bringing modern finishes and amenities to the guest experience. The food and cocktails were wonderful, too. We were delighted by the caviar and onion dip and the crudo. My wife is literally still talking about the duck a few days later.

The room amenities were on point, and the easy-to-use fireplace was a brilliant way to make a cozy space on a chilly Sonoma morning. The rooms are flamboyant, making for an unique experience, while the main building juxtaposes its historic exterior, southern-charm feel with a modern interior that showcases world-class art works of all different types & sizes. It's like spending time in a gallery, but a super friendly one, with great drinks from the intimate bar. I love that your not greated with a hotel desk, it's like walking into someones (fancy) house. You have to search for the typical hospitality elements, making it feel far more approachable to be honest. It's obvious this team cares, and that the General Manager leads by example in attention to detail & hotel culture. I can't recommend this place enough for how many ways it flips the script on the typical, even for luxury, hotel experience.

Fantastic interior design, attentive and friendly staff, it felt as if I had known everyone there for years. Very close to downtown Healdsburg while also feeling like you escape to the remote countryside, Madrona really caters to everything. The availability of the bikes for quick jaunts into town and also the valet vehicle for going out to dinner made getting around without needing to drive an absolute A+. Could not recommend this place more!
• blearyTrip (10/5): A hidden oasis supremely located in Healdsburg - The Madrona is uniquely located at the intersection of the Russian River and Dry Creek Valleys AVA - serving as a hidden oasis of 24 rooms amid the very best pinot noirs, chardonnays and zinfandels arguably in the world. A stone's throw from Healdsburg's charming plaza and with easy access to all of Sonoma, The Madrona's countless accolades for design and service leave little room to highlight is absolute perfect positioning.
• T4519QXsamanthae (6/5): Elegant Escape Let Down by Comfort and Cuisine - We stayed for two nights and three days at The Madrone. It’s a beautiful estate with an excellent porch, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee. The hotel staff were exceptionally attentive and kind, and the valet, Michael, was an absolute gem. The rooms were charming and picturesque. Another highlight is the location, two wineries are within easy walking distance, making The Madrone not only convenient with its own in-house bar and restaurant but also a premium choice for wine lovers looking to enjoy tastings without the need to drive. Unfortunately, the biggest drawback was the rock-hard beds. I quite literally left with back pain. Thankfully, Healdsburg has plenty of spas to help remedy that. The Madrone Bar was lovely, with talented bartenders who clearly take pride in their craft. The restaurant, however, was hit or miss. While it offered a beautifully curated wine list sure to please any sommelier, the food itself was inconsistent. The duck dish and halibut crudo were excellent, but the remaining courses fell flat, particularly the “caviar,” which turned out to be little more than roe. Our dining experience was quiet and calm, likely due to the off-season of November, but our waitress seemed on edge and somewhat inattentive, which detracted from what could have been a more polished service experience. My partner, a wagyu enthusiast who has enjoyed authentic wagyu in Japan, found their version over-salted and charred, more reminiscent of a standard steak. For a $400 meal, the experience didn’t live up to expectations. Overall, while The Madrone is undeniably elegant and the service staff generally warm, the comfort and dining experience left much to be desired. The convenient access to nearby wineries adds undeniable appeal, but the overall stay was somewhat a disappointing experience for what was meant to be a special birthday getaway.

The autumn colors and clear skies created the feeling of "escape from the real world". Elegant job of historic preservation, combined with modern amenities allow for a relaxing getaway. Impeccably clean room and friendly staff. We really enjoyed having a well-crafted cocktail in the fireside bar.

Staff were friendly and attentive, and even mailed us our computer charger when we accidentally forgot it in the room.

• Q2885SXdeniseg (6/5): A Night At The Madrona - My husband and I spent a night at the beautiful Madrona in Healdsburg. The grounds are carefully tended and the main hotel building is quite an interesting and well-maintained inn from the 1800s. Our room was in one of the out-buildings, No.1, and was spacious and private. I was disappointed in some of the features of the room: the bathroom door had a hook missing and a gouge and scrapes all over it; a chunk of the plaster wall in the bathroom was broken off; the shower was difficult to get into due to the high wall one has to step over to access it and the shower floor was slippery with no mat; the coffee maker had cups that were too large to fit under it; the chocolate left at the turndown was a well-known subpar brand. This was not what I expected for $600 a night. We had a lovely dinner in the hotel that night. The food was excellent and the waitstaff attentive and pleasant. All in all, a decent stay but one that could have been better with more attention to the details.
• nomieb396 (10/5): Madrona....Fabulous - Our stay was fabulous. Was like coming home. Every room, private and public was comfy, cozy, entertaining, historical. The artwork amazing and eclectic. The staff very attentive without being intsrusive and were very helpful I can see why Madrona is a Michelin Star property. The gardens simply amazing and to be able to walk around and be with nature in wine country! Hello....just fabulous. The grounds, gym, etc. I could go on for days. Wished we could have stayed longer, but will definitely be back. Thanks for making this such a memorable trip. Madrona truly embodied the Aloha spirit for us.
• jackv2015 (6/5): Great place to stay with a couple of issues to work out - My wife and I were searching for a place to reconnect and get some much needed R&R. We found The Madrona online and from the photos, reviews, and location, thought it would be the perfect little getaway we were looking for. We took 3 days off of work, booked two airline tickets and flew up on a Tuesday. Upon arrival the place was quite charming and the staff was very welcoming. We booked the balcony suite so we can really enjoy the views of the valley and vineyards. They showed us to our room and I have to say we loved the room and all the decor. We made arrangements to have dinner at the restaurant because of the ratings and since we were in the countryside, we ordered the duck. Not what I was expecting and I wish I had tried another dish. Our waitress seemed busy and we were sitting there with empty glasses and waited for our bill for quite a while. After dinner we sat at the bar and really enjoyed the bartender, I think his name was Ryan. He made us some of his signature drinks and we had great conversation. Layed down in the nice comfy bed and was awaken around 4am with loud traffic outside the hotel. Couldn't fall back asleep as the noise continued and got up unrested. Second night, layed down again and woke up around 2am with more loud noise. This time is sounded like leaf blowers out in front of the hotel. I reached out to the hotel staff and they were unsure what the noise was. Around 3:30am they finally figured out that the property next door had a grounds crew that worked through the night and was using dual gas leaf blowers to clean the streets in front of their establishment. The staff said there was nothing they could do about it so I layed there and had to listen to that noise until we got up at 7am, second night no sleep and got up unrested. My wife and I had breakfast downstairs and we really enjoyed the eggs, fresh fruit, and the fresh squeezed orange juice. After breakfast, we decided to use the E-bikes and go for a ride around the neighborhood wineries which was really fun. We took a stroll through Healdsburg and checked the local shops. To spend our last day at The Madrona, we figured we could just lounge by the pool and maybe take a nap. The pool and pool area is quite nice and has lots of lounges. However, ironically enough, the grounds crew was using the leaf blower to clean the sidewalks adjacent to the pool and all we could hear was the whining from the electric leaf blowers. Needless to say, we did not get to rest nor take a nap that day. We loved the house, staff, and grounds, but I'm not sure we can visit again unless they've dealt with the noise issues. We paid for the upgraded (balcony) room and felt as though we didn't get the overall experience we really needed, which was rest.

The property is beautiful, but what impressed me most was the interior design. Every space feels carefully considered--there's a mix of vintage pieces, bold colors, and unique details that give the hotel so much character. It's stylish without feeling overdone, and there's a real sense of personality throughout. My room was comfortable and beautifully decorated, with thoughtful touches that made it feel special. Some of our favorite parts were the wonderful cocktails and bar, we loved the Madrona old-fashioned cocktail. We also loved hanging by the pool and ordering appetizers. They have a wonderful happy hour during the weekday. One of our most fun experiences was taking out the electric bikes and riding to one of our favorite wineries, which was discovered while we were here. One of the staff recommended MacRostie and it was superb!

• DK1960 (10/5): A Wonderful Garden Oasis in Healdsburg - My wife and I spent two nights at The Madrona as part of a cross country trip. It was a wonderful oasis in Sonoma. We stayed in the Pool Bungalow which was a great room. The staff was friendly, helpful, and engaging and both breakfast and dinner were very good. There is also a pool which is quiet and well-maintained in a garden setting. We look forward to returning. It is a special spot.

It’s a lovely boutique hotel - you’re met by valets to help with bags are carry them up the steep steps (no elevator so be prepared for many steps at this property). The bar is well stocked, and the dinner was superb so don’t overlook the restaurant- breakfast was rather basic and nothing special oak but it is included in the rate. The bedrooms have no tv but do have a fireplace. The beds are very comfortable and the overall feeling of this property is like staying in someone’s estate home. At $400+ a night it’s a typical fee for the region.

• J_and_A_1 (10/5): A Stunner - Inside and out this special property is a joy to look at. Perhaps some might think the décor is a little bold, but I am sure most will think it is very stylish, chic, and playful. The hotel consists of a beautiful main mansion where all the public spaces are found, a carriage house with the most rooms, and several cottages scattered about. No two rooms are alike and we booked a bungalow studio. Our room was spacious with a smart modern décor with a twist. A beamed ceiling that was wallpapered. The black & white bathroom was large with three frosted windows that helped keep both rooms bright. We thought our room came with some outdoor space so we were a little disappointed it did not, but during breakfast one morning the manager checked in with us and recommended a different room if we returned. I think we will. As for that complimentary breakfast it was very tasty with one hot item each morning along with some pastries, fruit, and typical breakfast beverages. You will enjoy it as long as you like the hot item of the morning. A highlight of our visit for us was the beautiful pool area. During our June stay the Jasmine was blooming and cascading over a wall. There were plenty of other flowering plants and trees nearby. There are comfortable lounging areas and if you want food or drinks, you are able to scan a QR code to see a menu and have it delivered from the main house. The gym was also a nice surprise. It looks good, but does not have much to offer for working out, but I somehow managed to leave satisfied. There are also several Peloton bikes. The grounds are pretty with lots of produce grown on site. The only compliant we have is that the parking lot is in the middle of the property between the two main structures and at times is the staging area for deliveries. The hotel is about a mile from downtown Healdsburg which has a lot to offer. The daily resort fee was $60 per day during our stay. Parking is free.

• Shannon (8/5): - Upon arrival it was a bit unclear where to go for check in. Room on the third floor without an elevator was a bit of a trek. Bed was like a board and quite uncomfortable. Very nice complementary mocktails were crafted in lieu of the complimentary glass of bubbles. Neighboring guests were noisy. Transportation back from town concluded at 9pm on a Thursday night, so we had to drive our own car. Coffee in the morning was delicious. Overall, it was nice, but for the cost we would likely not return for a second visit.

The hotel was a charm of Sonoma County! Décor was intentional and creative, I loved the artfulness and personality of the entire property. Rooms were extremely comfortable, one of which featured a lovely patio that quickly became our go-to spot for morning coffee and evening relaxation. The staff was helpful and attentive. One of the amenities that stood out was the hotel car which proved to be incredibly convenient for getting around town.

It was amazing: the food, the service, the grounds. It was like living in a fairy tale hotel in a botanic garden. We had dinners in the garden and citrus grove, dancing in the outdoor terrace, wedding ceremony on the lawn. The food for each event was excellent. They even took care of our guests with dietary restrictions. I cant wait to return.

As we drove in the valet there showed us where to park and said, I will take your luggage to your room. Signing in we had to wait for the room to be ready because we are arrive early.I went to the bar and ordered a Coke and he said no charge, when the room was ready the concierge explained everything about the room. We needed a ride into Healdsburg for an evening meal, no problem, easily and quickly arranged. If you want to be well careful for and relaxing and delightful sitting and this is the hotel to choose. We brought friends from overseas on this visit and they too cannot wait to come back. The hotel is also very dog friendly, which is important to us. Our pup didn't want to leave!

• ThenewGeo (10/5): This is my BIG event luxury hotel - Earlier this month I was planning a surprise get-away and The Madrona was my first choice. I reached out to the Chief Concierge, Rachel, with my idea and she stated she would do some research and come back to me. Luckily, we live in the bay area so driving to Healdsburg is fast-ish, and easy. For the weekend I was planning The Madrona had a 20% Off Spring Getaway special that was perfect. Additionally, Rachel was able to upgrade us to a super nice bungalow near the Palm Terrace (fabo wedding ceremony location!) Upon arrival we had a chilled bottle of Roederer and a delicious seasonal citrus pound cake waiting for us in the room - that was an unexpected delight. We had a lovely romantic dinner in the restaurant inclusive of their exceptional house martini - The Estate Martini. You have to try it - it's the nasturtium oil and sidecar. The next morning we had a lovely wine tasting off-property and were able to use the chauffeur driven house car - comfy Volvo SUV - for the tasting so no need to worry about choosing a DD. Thanks Rachel and hope to see you later this spring for my birthday!
• alexmphillips (10/5): The absolute best option for a wine country trip! - If you're looking at a trip to wine country generally, or Healdsburg specifically, you know there are a lot of options. We've been coming up here from LA a lot over the past 10years and the one place that is our absolute first check (before looking at wineries or restaurants or anything else) is whether we can stay at the Madrona. The property grounds are absolutely gorgeous and you actually feel like you have an oasis to escape to at the end of a day of exploring. We've stayed in most of the rooms at this point, and every single one is special in its own way. If you can get one of the salon rooms, we LOVE those. This isn't just a place to crash at night after a long day of wine tasting. They have e-bikes that you can use in the morning for a ride along Westside road. The complimentary car service - arrange in advance - will ferry you to and from town. We usually make a point of having at least one dinner onsite as both the food and beverage program are great! Finally, the staff really go out of their way to make your stay as special as possible - if it's your first time to the area, be sure to reach out in advance for great suggestions about vineyards, shops, and restaurants to visit in the area.
• 302shirleyp (2/5): Disappointing at Best - I have been here many times. Since 1998 This was my third time visiting since the new ownership. I was appalled at during my welcome ( although the employee was gracious), that it was brought to my attention that I could purchase the horrendous “ art” that filled the old historic walls. Very offensive and the art did not go with the theme of the beautiful mansion. Furthermore in our room was QR codes to purchase everything from a wine opener, cutting board , knife and overpriced wine and spirits. It got worse.. at dinner , service was lacking, and we were ignored for quite sometime while our waitress chatted with others on a not so busy night. Food was overpriced and cold! Guess that’s why they lost their Michelin star. There was also music piped in which was too loud and didn’t fit the mansion theme at all. Service in the bar was lacking as well as we were ignored for quite sometime while only one guest was at the bar. This was not at all how this beautiful historic mansion and grounds used to be or run. My excited anticipation in sharing this beautiful experience was worse than I could have ever imagined and I left sad.
• DavidTraveller2 (10/5): Terrific in every respect! True hopitality. - I can’t say enough good things about the Madrona. They treat you like royalty. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The continental breakfast is terrific: croissants, delicious fresh squeezed orange or grapefruit juice, good coffee or tea, fresh fruit (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, pineapple slices, all quality stuff), high quality granola, rich yogurt, and an excellent selection of soft and hard cheeses. The setting is gorgeous. It’s on a hill with a scenic outlook. Although it’s only a five minute drive from central Healdsburg, it’s an idyllic, rural setting. If you’re a birder lots of interesting birds to see and hear too. While we were there my wife got sick for one day (through no fault of the Madrona). The staff was extremely accommodating. I drove her to an urgent care center in Windsor to be seen around noon. Although that was past checkout time (it was our last scheduled day there) they said not to worry, either we could extend our stay for another day or just have a late checkout at no charge, depending on what we were told at the urgent care center. In the event we decided to stay another day, during which time my wife recovered. They even waived the increased charge for a Friday, and just charged us at the normal weekly rate. So refreshing to be treated as a human being and not just as a walking wallet! Next time we’re in Sonoma (we live across the country) we will without question look forward to staying at the Madrona again!

There were also many included services in our stay, like a free car service to and from wineries and restaurants and really awesome e-bikes. Our room was on the second floor and had tall ceilings, beautiful garden views, a fireplace, and a stunning and huge bathroom with heated floors. The bar also had really delicious, complex drinks. Overall, can’t recommend this hotel enough and we can’t wait to come back!
• 915josieb (4/5): disappointing - For 2 Michelin keys, we expected a bit more from what we experienced. We only stay at 5 star hotels and this one stood out to us because of the Michelin stars. But service, hospitality fell short of what a 5 star hotel should be. Rooms were uncomfortable, and was not thoughtfully designed or configured. The entire sitting area was wrapped in this very busy wallpaper including the ceiling . If you are having your guests feel relaxed and have tranquillity, it did'nt work. We booked a cottage one of the more expensive accomodation , not mentioned any where that there's not TV in the room, There is no place to hang your towels only 2 hooks which is for the robes. Coffee machine is hidden in a cabinet and the entire coffee making was not friendly. No room service. This is not a full service hotel, it felt like we went glamping. Snack that is for sale were expired.

The rooms in the carriage house were slightly more minimal then expected but the bathrooms even better with heated floors that made the mornings extra cozy in november. The main house had plenty of seating for lounging and breakfast and we enjoyed the bar too. Dinner was absolutely delicious, reasonably priced and well paired to local wines. We loved everyone who assisted in our stay- Laura, Arianna, and the bartender on thanksgiving eve who we somehow missed his name. 10/10, have already spread the word!!!!
