De paor (1/5): Worst hotel stay ever!! - The two girls at reception on arrival were nice and friendly, and helped where they could with any questions we had. The food was okay. The bar staff were unhygienic, not particularly friendly and disinterested. The bar/restaurant seating was so worn and damaged and there was broken edging on the timber floor by our seat. Areas of flooring troughout the hotel was also duck tapped in patches. An additional part of the dinning area was under renovation and was not in anyway hidden from paying guest, a piece of timber put up against glass doors keeping them closed over, half tiled floors and buckets and tools everywhere to see. The hallways had a musky smell and there was dust and cobwebs along the walls, windowsills and ceilings. The ceilings in the hallway also had circular holes cut out, which was very strange. The curtains, walls and carpets in our room had lots of stains on them, one curtain was turned the opposite way around with a big stain down it, there was a picture frame on the wall was broken, and a tv mounted very unsafely. Worst of all was the bedroom doors only have handles on the inside, and on a couple of occasions it came away from the door resulting in us being unable to unlock the door and get out for 5 minutes each time. Doors and surfaces were sticky and dirty as if they hadn't been cleaned in quite a while. The tables in the restaurant were the same, and each time I put my glass on the table it stuck to the table. There were peas and chips under our table from the previous guest. There were flies all over the restaurant constantly lingering around the food. The outdoor area could be lovely, but not looked after. Rubbish, leaves and dirt all over the decking area and the seats covered in cobwebs.

The weather was very warm, 21c and 78% humidity. The radiator in the bathroom was boiling hot and it was unbearable to be in there. There was no way to turn it off from the room. I advised the girl at reception when we went down to dinner and she was very helpful and said she would look into it. When we returned after dinner it was still on so I phoned reception and was told they would call the plumber. We heard nothing back from them. We closed the bathroom door to keep the heat out of the room. The next morning going into the bathroom was like being in a sauna, couldn't even bear to use the shower in that heat so we decided to check out early and have a shower at home!

The service at reception on arrival was mediocre..no mention or offer of breakfast facilities.. when we came down at 7am to pay for breakfast we were told it would be late as chef had broken a leg..I think..and alternative staff was needed..so we didn't book it!! Desk staff were always lingering in nearby bar chatting to customers..as we were leaving noone came to us at reception so we left our room key on Counter and left..I might say we vowed never to return to this hotel 2 years ago .on that occasion we had no hot water..or heat.. and when we mentioned it we were told that a member of staff forgot to turn it on!!!! There was also very little self service breakfast as a bus load of people had just checked out. At 8am!!! And we had a long wait for anything. Hotel appears understaffed and service is generally inadequate or unavailable!!! I don't know how this place survives..must be the wedding business that keeps it going!!!
Noel (8/5): My First (Not My Last) Stay at Banville House Hotel - The location is so near to the bus stop. The welcome at reception. The room was on the ground floor with pleasant view to the front The room was spacious with second bed provided to accommodate two male adults in the room. When requested an ironing board and iron were delivered promptly There was a bath, not just a shower The single bed was comfortable and well placed away from the larger bed The dinner was excellent My friend was served a vegetarian meal as arranged prior to arrival ( with Robert) All the staff were courteous and attentive Every small request was met with eagerness and responded to promptly Checkout left me feeling a welcome to come back ( I have already booked for next month) I felt a chill in the air as I went from reception along part of the passageway to the room. ( this was only for seconds , the warm air then met me.) Absolutely nothing else

The setting has potential but the grounds are not landscaped which is a shame because it could have been a real selling point but instead it just feels like staying in a quarry or something, so despite all the countryside it sits within and all the land it owns, the only place to sit outside is a grim smoking area and 2-3 decrepit wooden benches. They have no issue ripping people off. My aunty paid double the price that I did for an “executive room” ,it was next door to me in a carbon copy of a room. Breakfast was not included for her, so she paid double what I did for precisely nothing extra.

Brenda (8/5): My 3 nights were perfect and I liked that it was close to the boulevard outlet shops - It’s a lovely hotel old but very well maintained. The grounds are lovely and rooms very quiet. The food is fab and very good value. I was doing a course in Belfast but travelling with my friend from Newry so we were able to travel together. Everything was fine I should have asked for a walk in shower but I’m returning in 3 weeks and they said it wouldn’t be a problem and noted it. There is no lift to the 2nd floor but I was on a ground floor but when you look out the window it was like you were on an upper level. It was very private and lovely trees and views.

I think someone had a tap dancing competition in my room. I’ve never seen as many cracked tiles in my life. It’s supposed to be non smoking but you could smell smoke down the corridors. The night porter was too busy watching TV to do anything about it

Stephen (10/5): Over the top service - We only booked one night as we didn’t know how long we needed to stay due to a family situation. The hotel kept our room open whether we used it or not and only charge for the days we are here at discounted rates. All staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and hugely empathetic.
Alison (5/5): Nice but room for improvement. - Good food and friendly staff. Rooms need a lot of TLC and updating. A lot of niggling problems such heating issues, taps too big for sinks and trip switch going off.

kermath (7/5): - Always a pleasure to stay would recommend it to anyone. Had a problem with electric sockets, could not dry hair so could not shower in the morning as we left .I am sure it was a blip as been there 2 times before and no problem .

Adrian (8/5): Very pleasant stay, clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay on a future visit to the area - Excellent location with plenty of private parking. Room was spacious and clean, decoration and condition average but very acceptable for the budget. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant was good. Bar area with good choice of draught beer.
