Guest Reviews
- DHIRAJ (8/5): Ok. New management needs to make improvements - We stayed here for 4 nights during Envision festival. Hotel is under new management now and I felt like cleaning service was lacking. Our mattress kept sinking in. Our room was not cleaned every day. We ran out of shower gel and toilet paper. Rooms did not have any luggage rack or hangers or closet. Restaurant and the breakfast was excellent and is still managed by the old owner (Philippe). The staff was very friendly. Hopefully the hotels new management takes this feedback and makes improvements.
- Dori (8/5): - This little gem nestled in the heart of Uvita is the brain-child of Jade and Tyler; two millennials who have both energy and vision. Since taking over in early January, they have made major changes to the facility. It's clean, unpretentious and ticks all the boxes. They have teamed with Roxie, the proprietor of the restaurant 'La Fogata' next door where you can enjoy a huge and wholesome breakfast. Actually having dinner there was also an excellent option. Very good food!
The only thing we missed was a bar fridge in our room... which I was assured has been ordered and is on a truck somewhere moving slowly along those Costa Rican roads! Oh well.... Next time!
- Etienne (8/5): Escale Uvita beach - Très bon accueil.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The breakfast is amazing and the lady cation ideal
- Verified traveler (10/5): Uvita - Great place, pool, nice restaurant and food.
Very close to Ballenas State park.
- Jose Andrés (2/5): Evitar a toda costa.
Atienden bien. Las habitaciones son un poco pequeñas
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lived the property and the service! Everyone and everything was just wonderful. ❤️
- Chey (10/5): - A real gem. Stayed here for the second time for envision festival. The owners are so nice and helpful. The breakfast spread was amazing and FREE. The mattresses are comfy and the rooms are clean. We will be staying here again. Highly highly recommended if you’re in the Uvita area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice stay. Amazing owner!! - Excellent hotel. The owners are super friendly and very accommodating. Location is fantastic 5 mins walk to the city center. They serve delicious breakfast. Highly recommended.
- Anthony (10/5): Quiet, affordable, and clean...all you can need! - Hotel Luz de Luna is a really small, quaint hotel on a side street in Uvita. It is clean, but simple. Good room, secure, and staffed by VERY nice people. The restaurant next door is also ran by the hotel owners and has fantastic food. Not really walkable to the beach, but a short drive on a quiet, untraveled road and you're there. The bed is not very comfortable, unless you are into REALLY firm mattresses. The mattress is fine, but it sits on a concrete block base, which hardens the mattress a little too much. But there is free WiFi and breakfast and it is not expensive at all. I cannot emphasize how accommodating and nice the staff is. Anything you need, including a late check in, and it was taken care of. I would definitely stay there again.
- Gail (6/5): OK Lodgings in a Great Place - This is a nondescript motel with a god restaurant in a great area. The bed wasn't very comfortable and the WiFi barely worked. Neither did the light outside our room. On the plus side, it had a god bathroom and the restaurant is a deservedly popular and lively place. Overall it seemed a bit overpriced for what we got, but Uvita is great with lovely beaches and access to all that this fantastic part of Costa Rica offers. Try to do better than this motel, but if you can't stay here and enjoy the Costa de Ballena.
- Susan (6/5): Simple beach motel with amazing restaurant - This hotel was more like an American motel, very basic but clean with tiny rooms and particularly comfortable beds. Fit our needs for a one night stay just to sleep, as it was close to the beach and had a (fabulous) pizza restaurant attached to it. Breakfast at the restaurant (included in our reservation) was the best we had on our entire trip.
- Gregory (6/5): - Filipe, the owner, was very nice and is in the process of improving the property. He has a ways to go. The rooms are small, with limited amenities, but very clean. No coffee maker (but breakfast is included), no seating in the room other than the bed (but no room for chairs anyway). The AC was great, which is nice in Uvita at this time of year. Filipe gave us detailed information on things to do in the area. We are pulling for him to make this place a big success. One other thing, the food at the attached restaurant is really good, especially the pizza.
- Marla (8/5): - The hotel is difficult to find using GPS (Garmin) which does not think it exists and there are no signs along the road to direct you. Even the locals walking along the unpaved road nearby did not know it existed. Management agreed they need signs. The service we got was great, and the food was the best we ate in our two week stay traveling around Costa Rica. Their restaurant, Fogata, was well known to the locals who came as couples and families to especially enjoy their pizzas, spit roasted chicken, and other great offerings including the best corvina and mussels we have ever eaten in our travels! The room was very small but the bed, AC, and bathroom were good, and there is only space for a couple of cars to park in their lot and the rest must park on the dirt road. We would stay here again or recommend it to friends. A special person was Rosanna, "Roxy," who served our food and helped us with whatever we needed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): basic and clean - March 2018
Hotel is on a dirt road a quarter a mile from the main road. Its a basic, small, clean room with exposed shelf and no where to hang clothes. No safe in the room. Swimming pool on premised but did not use it. We had memory foam bed. Not my favorite but adequate. Hot water and air conditioning worked. We were on second floor which had a table and chairs on the balcony away from the room. Nice to sit there and watch birds. Good breakfast and nice staff. The hotel is on the road to Whale's Tail about one and half mile from the hotel. Little to far to walk in the heat. Parking is available at park entrance, $4 for the day. The beach is hot, large and beautiful with shade at the forest edge. The ocean is like a lake and in the upper 80s. Beach towels where not supplied by the hotel. There are no chairs or umbrellas at the beach.
- Brigitte (8/5): staying in Uvita at local Hotel - This Hotel is in the center of Uvita, clean and comfortable. Walking distance to town, yet too far for beach, but a short ride in a taxi. The pool is small but a great place to relax. The hotel offers tea in the afternoon, even at the pool side.
Star gazing decks.
Restaurant has local food, great pizza and lovely breakfast - often breakfast buffet
Parking is secure .
- david (2/5): It was a dump - W e got there at 5:00 in the afternoon.the place was a real dump beside a gravel road.
we had paid in Sept. through Expedia. the place was rented to somebody else.
i would never recommend that dump.
the pictures on line are not even the same
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good hotel near the national park beaches. - I'd give this hotel 3.5 stars. My room was quite basic, but clean. The location was good for access to the nearby national park. The associated restaurant was also good and breakfast was free for guests. Fair value for the cost.
- Ramon (10/5): Great Place to Stay - Room was in terrific shape. The hotel and restaurant staff was so nice and friendly. I wish I could have stayed longer!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good Location, Good Pizza - This little hotel has a lot of potential! My partner stayed here 5 years ago and was raving about it so we booked it for this trip. However, the quality is seeming to fall into disrepair due to little to no management. When we arrived no one was at recpetion(and no one was there the next day for check out). We had to go into the resteraunt to find someone to check us in . She was very helpful and checked us in as best she could as we weren‘t even in the book (we had prebooked). Once we got to our room we had to kill a few bugs but the room was clean for the most part, it just seemed that it needed a make over as the water had a hard time draining in the shower. The water was hot though and the bathroom had lovely light coming in through the windows.
We didn’t get to swim in the pool because the lights weren’t on.
The restraunt had great service however, and the staff there were friendly and helpful! The pizza was delicous and prices were decent. Even the reseraunt needed to be cleaned more than it was though. Overall, I would still recommend this to someone. It seems like it just needs someone to put some time into the upkeep again as my partner said his friends wedding was there 5 years ago and that it was such a lovely little place. A few touches here and there and it could be like that again I think. Still worth the stay, and it really is in a good location!
- Kristen (10/5): Perfect for our first stay in Uvita - Staff are amazing, space is just what we need and the meals at the restaurant are delicious. Our stay was great and I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone.
- Dave (2/5): Find another place - Once we found the hotel (No sign, concealed) the office had lost our reservation. Our “garden view” room turned out to be a parking lot view. The shower failed to drain, flooding the entire room, the staff was helpful in moving us to another room, though it was late at night. Sleeping became challenging as the A/C would randomly shut down, making the room very warm and uncomfortable!
On the up side, the pizza was delicious and the breakfast good in the restaurant.
- Mehran (6/5): dustry area - they had overbooked.and started out by saying there is no room and after we insisted that they should write it to us they said there is after all one room available. The breakfast was the best we experienced in this class hotel but the restaurant was right next to a dusty road
- norv (10/5): Close to nice restaurant - Nice pool, excellent breakfast! Very clean, great staff at restaurant! Enjoyed outdoor sitting areas
Tres bon petit dejeuner. Eau chaude matin et soir assuree.
- Eszter (8/5): Nice hotel to go and watch whales from - The hotel was ok and served the purpose we chose it, as it was close (5 min by car) to the whale watching site. Staff was very kind and nice. Breakfast was great!! Room was clean, bed kinda wierd with good pillows. Pool is small with just a few sunbeds. As one side of the room is just glass, it is very loud as you can hear other guests. Overall for a night or two it's ok.
- Oscar (8/5): Pura Vida Experience - Very good trip, the couple who owns the place were super sweet and accommodating. If we return to Ballena we would definitely stay here.
- Pablo (10/5): Nice hotel, totally recommended - A small hotel but really comfortable, with all you need for a vacations trip. The rooms are nice, clean and big. The staff is really nice and collaborator.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had a last minute booking here. The AC works great, nice pool, close to the beach. The staff was wonderful and attentive. Answered all my questions and helped me out with everything.
- John (10/5): Perfect place to stay - This place was wonderful, includes an amazing restaurant with friendly staff and great food. The owner here is a very friendly and makes you feel welcome. Beautiful little pool surround by trees and great rooms. You can also use bikes for a short bike ride to the most amazing beach in that part of CR! Overall wonderful experience!
- Phil (10/5): Clean hotel, nice quiet pool, great breakfasts. - Only one sign on the highway, and then no sign on the site. ??? This was the only negative as everything else was as advertised. The lady who check us in and made breakfast for everyone was great.
- Grubergator (10/5): Nice hotel near Marino Ballena National Park - Luz de Luna is an excellent choice in the Uvita area. The room is clean and comfortable. The AC works well, and there is plenty of hot water for showers. The room has a small patio with a table and chairs as well as a communal lounge area on the second floor. An added treat is the uncovered patio has an incredible view of the stars. The Milky Way is almost overhead and blazes with thousands of stars.
The hotel is about 1 km away from the Marino Ballena National Park. This is by far the nicest beach in the area. There's a natural whale tail shape on the beach, and it is a place where you can actually do whale watching. It also has great access to surfing, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
La Fogata is one of the nicest restaurants in the area and is adjacent to the hotel. The food is good and the prices reasonable. The hotel offers a free buffet breakfast at the restaurant that is excellent in quality and selection.
This establishment is a hidden gem, and if I return to the area, I'll definitely stay here again.
- Julie (10/5): Great Restaurant on way to Ballena Marine Park - The room was OK, but the restaurant was really good. The Wi-Fi in the restaurant was great so we hung out there during breakfast and dinner and used the wifi. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The owner was very friendly and we really enjoyed our time with him. Good Breakfasts
