Guest Reviews
- Jane (10/5): Perfect home from home to explore this incredible place. - Beautiful suite. Fabulous location. Fitted us in a day early too Nothing it was great
- Jeffrey (5/5): -
- Alyssa (10/5): Great spot, great location, great facilities and great host! - It was a great middle point for our New Zealand adventure. We were allowed to use their laundry facilities which was awesome as we got soaked in the rain and felt really gross. They also had a wood burning fire place which was amazing to use. If we planned to stay longer we would have hung out in the communal areas and even used their sauna. Wish we stayed longer! Nothing it was great
- Jay (10/5): Quiet and tranquil stay! - It’s such a calm and relaxing place to stay. There are only 4-6 rooms so there aren’t many other people around. You feel like you’re in a tranquil space. The rooms are lovely, you can enjoy a hot tub soak, cosy up infront of a fire and watch the sun set on Mount Ruapehu! Minzy and Mi cook all of the meals for you - it feels very special.
- Miriy (10/5): מלון מקסים - מלון מקסים, שקט, מתוחזק ברמה גבוהה. הבעלים איכפתי מאוד ודואג לכל.
ארוחת ערב טעימה ומשביעה

- Julie (9/5): Spoilt ourselves with a little country luxury. And we’re lucky to glimpse Mt Ruapehu - Beautiful location. Lucky to glimpse the mountain in the morning. Friendly staff. Car parking available. Large rooms with all conveniences and very comfy bed. But not near a town if wanting that convenience. Only one option for a meal. Worked for us but you would need to travel to Ohakune for an alternative.
- James (10/5): - Very clean room and luxury amenities. Staff is
- alex (8/5): Good rooms but needs some small improvements - The location and the quality of the rooms The shower needs to be maintained. The hot water several times became freezing and then hot again. And the breakfast must be rethinked.
- Christopher (10/5): Truly special stay, highly recommended - Location is wonderful, very peaceful with views of the mountain. Has all the amenities you could ask for, hot tub, sauna etc. Room was well finished and very comfortable. What makes this please truly special though is the hosts, absolutely wonderful people who went well above and beyond what was required, even made the most amazing dumplings. Would highly recommend/
- GEORGES (7/5): - Petit déjeuner, bien en dessous de la prestation attendu pour ce type d'hébergement. Dommage Accès chaînes télé
- Nishant (9/5): - The location is stunning. Wifi signal in Ruapehu room is not great at times but is doable.
- Asha (9/5): -
- Ariana (10/5): Exceptional - The room was lovely - had everything we needed and was warm. Great outdoor setting. CJ was very friendly and helpful.
- Janice (8/5): The owner was lovely and had given us an upgrade. The property is finished to a very high standard, very comfortable, wo - Very well appointed and comfortable The room was very cold inside on arrival and in common areas. Given location bathroom or bathroom floor or towel rail heating would make it a 10
- Taela (10/5): Exceptional -
- 3 (9/5): Superb -
- Lucas (7/5): Good - Comfy bed, clean room, beautiful views and quite place. Great Starlink free WIFI. Smelly bathroom/toilet. Breakfast is in the room, you have to prepare it yourself. Not EV charger available.
- Kath (10/5): Gorgeous stay! - Beautiful location, unfortunately cloudy so hard to see the views. Lovely welcome on arrival, room was lovely decorated, everything we needed, breakfast was set up in our room which we loved, even got a little knock in the morning to ask if we'd like eggs cooking. Such lovely people. Bed comfortable, bath gorgeous wished we were staying longer. Nothing.
- Nat (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jacqueline (9/5): Superb -
- Krunoslav (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pelly (7/5): Good -
- Michael (5/5): Passable - Location Not really clean, very little breakfast in room
- John (8/5): A nice, relaxing place - The location; the cleanliness; the comfy bed; the accommodating host; the stars; the continental breakfast in our room: apples, oranges, oatmeal, cold cereal, milk, cookies, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fresh squeezed orange juice. We had use of the well equipped kitchen. The host also offered a cooked dinner for an additional price. It looked and smelled delicious, however we did not partake. Nothing
- Mitchell (5/5): Passable - Quiet location Breakfast was space, I really didn't appreciate the fact that there was the kitchenette area next to the bed. It was very awkward.
There was no seating area inside the unit to eat the breakfast???
Breakfast was rationed to 2 pieces of bread each and some sparce quantity of cereal. Yes I was hungry!! Afterwards
When we arrived after 17.00 was a notice on laundry door that washing machine was unavailable after 15.00, well we were only there one night!
Mighty strange
- Siobhan (4/5): Disappointing - The host The smell the dirt of the kitchen the next morning and the breakfast was awful
- Susan (6/5): Nice idea but too far away from everything - Room was clean and comfortable My room opened directly into public area where food was being prepared and served. It was also too far away from local amenities(15km drive to nearest shop or restaurant) they did have a menu to select from which consisted of only Indian dishes so the lack of choice meant no food available for us.
- Scott (9/5): Superb -
- Joanna (10/5): Exceptional - Cody and the garden
- Hai (7/5): Good -
- Saskia (10/5): Beautiful quiet place to stay with a kind and helpful host - Lovely quiet retreat to relax after a long day of hiking. The rooms and gardens were very beautiful with shared areas available as well. Breakfast included was some continental options available in the room. For us this worked well! But just for awareness of others in case they are expecting cooked options.
- Anne (10/5): Quiet and relaxing retreat close to town and activities - Quiet and relaxing, breakfast setup was very convenient, seems to be tucked away from everything, but still close to town (~15 min drive) and not far from Tongariro Alpine crossing car park (~40 min drive). There are several common spaces available to guests such as the library, hot tub, sitting room and dining room. Nothing
- Kate (7/5): Good -
- Damian (6/5): Nice but could be better. - Great Mountain View. Spacious room. We were checked in by what seemed like the only person who works there. He seemed very disinterested. Didn’t asked any questions. Nothing about the area or if we needed anything. Just didn’t seem to care. Very strange overall.
- Koka (10/5): Exceptional -
- Valerie (10/5): Very nice place - Very nice property and garden. Large suite with comfortable sofa, large bed, bath and shower. Lovely terrace Nothing
- Lesley (9/5): Superb -
- Lesley (8/5): Very good -
- Mike (10/5): Excellent - Very beautiful location! Property is modern, clean, just perfect to spend couple of days in nature! -
- Tina (10/5): If you need to break away from city life and want a bit of me time, this place is perfect just to chill out. A glass of - Peace and quiet N/a
- Andrea (9/5): Great overnight stay -
- Brendan (10/5): Brilliant spot - we'll be recommending to our friends - Private and tucked away off the main road, with a stunning outlook back to the mountains. Fabulous host on the night, Sukhi cooked one of the best curries we've had in a long time. We made a good choice to have him cook rather than drive back to Ohakune in search of a meal. Arrangements, advices, payments all made with the minimum of fuss - thanks and hope to visit again in the months ahead.
- Antony (9/5): Superb -
- Wright (8/5): Very good - Location was perfect for us. Host was very friendly and willing to assist us. Sad we didn't arrive at a good time to enjoy a dinner as the cooking smelled wonderful! Because food was prepared to order there were very strong cooking smells all of the time. Kind of a positive and a negative.
- Jane (5/5): Very disappointing. For a boutique accommodation in such stunning surroundings, it did not deliver. - Great location for our one night stay on the last leg of our trip home after three weeks away.
Stunning view of the mountain and very peaceful.
Comfortable bed and lounge. It was unpleasant to be met on our arrival by overpowering cooking/food smells throughout the entire facility, which lingered overnight.
The provisions left for breakfast were woeful, considering the cost of the accommodation. Cornflakes or weetbix, the “fresh” fruit wasn’t fresh, the scattering of prepackaged bread, butter and preserves in the fridge …. it was all very unprofessionally presented and unappetising. We were grateful we had our own to fall back on.
There was no coffee making equipment, but there was a coffee milk frother!!
While the bathroom looked beautiful, the shower was very difficult to get and maintain a warm temperature without being scalded. The bath salts sachet was wet and had obviously been used before.
The grounds/gardens were overrun with weeds which detracted from what would otherwise have been a very pleasant outlook.
- Jeremy (9/5): Great 1 night stopover - The room was lovely. Very clean and spacious..Bathroom was great. Nothing
- Samantha (10/5): Highly recommend if you’re visiting the nearby national park - The room was gigantic and the view out of our sliding glass door was amazing. The shower was huge with great water pressure. The hotel provided necessities like milk and bread. Very comfortable bed! The hotel hallways were really cold…it seemed like there was no heat outside of the rooms.
- Loren (8/5): Very good -
- Igor (7/5): Good -
- Surjit (8/5): It was good over all… - Should be served in the morning… instead of keeping the bread in the fridge a day before… Breakfast
- Andrew (10/5): Modern and clean - Modern and plenty of space to rest and relax. None
- Mary (9/5): Superb -
- Amber (6/5): Very nice hosts, very welcoming and good sized rooms, could be cleaner and more private - Very large rooms, a library and a little dining area seperate to your room was nice We paid extra for a mountain view, but the trees blocked the mountain view. They also offer a bath infront of a large window, however you have to have the blind down because there is nothing stopping the neighbouring room to see you in the bath, so you don't actually get to enjoy the view from the bath. The bathroom was also quite dirty, it looked like candle wax? On the floor under the bath, hairs around the bathroom and stains on the blinds
- Shivali (6/5): Could have been better - The location was great, and the place was very clean. The bathroom is modern. The breakfast was described as "delicious" in other reviews and was described as "very good breakfast" in the booking. This must have changed- the breakfast is cereal in jars with only enough milk given for two teas (we couldn't even have the cereal), a few slices of plain bread in the fridge, and fruit. This was not my expectation for a "bed and breakfast" and in a relatively remote area, it was annoying to waste time getting breakfast when I thought it was taken care of.
There is no one at the desk- the place feels dead with no hospitality. I rang the desk bell for towels several times as our room had not yet been serviced by 1 PM- no one answered and I had to get towels from the hot tub area. Without service, I felt I should have booked an airB&B.
- Stephanie (6/5): Pleasant - The room was clean. The food was great. The bed was great I didn't like that it was a bedroom in a large house. A sliding door was the only thing between us and the kitchen where the ower was cooking. That's a bit weird.
- Colin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Jichen (4/5): please keep clean - the environment not clean
- Li (9/5): Special experience stay under alpine - The style like a family home, you feel stay like country side big house. That pretty cool and unique . A indicate sign beside highway will more helpful to found.
- Alison (10/5): Beautiful suites. Comfortable bed. Lovely gardens, very welcoming host, unique presentation of suites and lounge areas un - Beautiful suite. Comfortable bed. Great large shower and bath. Loved the jacuzzi. Lovely dinner served in the big kitchen and large comfortable lounge area by the chef host. This place is quite unique with views overlooking Tongariro on your doorstep. Comfort all round. Suki was a fabulous host. Nothing. Wish we could have stayed longer.
- Kay (9/5): Relaxing and very comfortable - Location brilliant. The studio was superb and the service good . The bath had a leak and there could have been a sink in the toilet room .
- Susan (10/5): Excellent Host, excellent stay - it was our wedding anniversary and even though the Tongariro suites did not offer a romance package, the went above and beyond setting up our room to make it a special occasion.
- Maria (8/5): Lovely retreat with potential to be the best - Place had really good bones and great potential. We would stay again when the weather is better. Just needs some attention to detail, and proper hospitality training to make this a winner. Used toilet roll on floor, pencil and rubbish under the tv cabinet, candle unusable in bathroom as it was burnt down to the base. Bathroom needed a better scrub in a few places. The sofa was pretty stained and needed a wash clean, we tried flipping cushions over and they were worse underneath. The Bathroom handsoap was so waterdown it sprayed all over you when you pumped it. Freezer still had frozen food in it from previous guests. Breakfast and toilet paper lasted only one day. Overall if you can overlook these things, and slightly odd way it is run - I would say this is up there with top places to stay in the area as the building and gardens are lovely.
- Danny (9/5): Superb - Indian chef providing freshly made dinner options and spa with a fantastic mountain outlook. Couldn't get tv to work
- Eng (8/5): Host's thoughtfulness and generosity made our stay truly special. - Peaceful place to stay! No tissue paper and slippers😂
- Kiran (10/5): Great stay with a great view - Great stay! We loved the property. Clean and great view Nothing
- Candice (10/5): Couldn’t fault it. Suki was a generous and genuine host. - Stunning property. Beautifully maintained and spectacular views Nothing
- Jon (9/5): Superb -
- Waters (7/5): Good -
- Jacqbc (10/5): A gem of an accommmodation. Warm, inviting and very comfortable stay! Thank you. - What a gem of an accommodation. The lovely Host greeted us warmly and showed us around the property. The room was spacious, with a very comfortable bed (and electric blanket) and a seating area. There is also heat pump. The bathroom was also very spacious with a fabulous bath (including bath salts and candles to light if one wished) and a separate large shower with two sinks. The views were gorgeous of the garden area with pond. There is a large lounge and kitchen that guests are free to use at anytime and, the host will cook guests a wonderful curry for dinner (there is a menu of options in the room). Thank you for a wonderful stay! Would highly recommend!
- Jorge (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely clean room. Great hot tub. Really nice and accommodating staff
- Alessia (6/5): Overall a good stay except for the dirty shared kitchen. - Great location, great room, the property is very quiet and relaxing. Overall the room, towels and sheets were clean. The shared kitchen was very dirty. Staff was nice but when we were using the shared kitchen we felt like we were being constantly surveilled which made it a bit uncomfortable. The bathroom toilet was not clean with pink/red stains and the lamp in the bathroom heater lamp had a stick holding it together (a bit of a hazard).
- Ryan (8/5): Very good -
- Zoe (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cheryl (9/5): Nice place with quiet surroundings and really friendly hosting. - Nice place and family friendly.
- Claire (8/5): Lovely stay in a part of NZ we had not stayed in before. - Quiet and private location. Short drive to Ohakune and to the Mountain. We enjoyed our stay and were lucky with the weather. For the price the breakfast supplied was underwhelming. We chose to bring our own.
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional - This place is perfect! The view of Mt. Rupehu just outside our room is so beautiful. Also the ammenities are great cause you can cook and they have a hot tub. Just got lost locating the hotel at night. Needed more signage by the road but overall its fine.
- Jane (6/5): Ok but for us it didn't have the expected facilities for the price charged. Wouldn't go back. - The place was super quiet as expected given its location off the beaten track. Perfect for unwinding. The bed was very comfy and it was good to have a nice deep bath available. The kitchenette layout was awful. Access to the fridge was a muddle and there was not enough room to do anything except make a drink. Also set at a strange height which was ok for us as we're both tall but would have been really tricky for shorter folk. The mats on the kitchen table had not been wiped properly when we checked in and there was no cutlery or plates.
- Liam (10/5): A gem of a place. I stayed here last year and this year was even better. Very comfy and friendly. - Friendly service, beautiful surroundings, private, quiet area away from the main road.
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Eric (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pejman (10/5): Had fun and it’s very quiet - The bed was so comfy, and the view from balcony was amazing
- Aishwarya (8/5): Very good -
- Mahin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cynthia (9/5): Superb -
- Hairong (10/5): Hotel level of services. Recommended for a quiet and pleasant holiday. - Staff is great. The room is spacious and clean with nice interior deco. Plenty goodies are available for self helped breakfast .
- Emmaboyce (10/5): Exceptional - The Tongariro Suites are set in beautiful gardens with a superb view of Ruapehu. The rooms are set up with everything you need including breakfast. In addition to that, there are loads of extra areas, including a sun deck with hot tub and barbeque, a lounge with fireplace, and fully fitted kitchen.
Suki was so kind and made us feel really welcome.
Highly recommend.
- Carol (6/5): Adequate - Large room GPS directions took us to the wrong house
Room was very cold on arrival and we had to get staff to provide backup heater. The filters on the heat pump probably need vacuum. Fruit past it’s sell by date
