Guest Reviews

- Ahmet Yakup (10/5): - Good place and good staff. arigatoo
- Claudia Eleonora (8/5): -
- magno (10/5): - the atmosphere is wonderful, and the room is very welcoming and characteristic
- Gabriele (6/5): - - clean
- staff very kind - room was very little for 2 people with luggage
- please change the curtains because there is too much light that comes in from surrounding building
- no stairs
- very expensive
- minor thing because was very easy: we thought that futon was already prepared when we checked in while we need to prepare it ourselves
- Ian (10/5): - Great little place.
- talitha (8/5): -
- giovanni (8/5): Nel complesso ci siamo trovati bene.
Prima ontbijt. De grootte van de kamer voor 3 personen. Wisten we wel een beetje van tevoren.
- John (10/5): An Excellent, Authentic Experience - Very small and cozy with the nicest staff who spoke english very well. The futon and tatami were much more comfortable to sleep on than I though they would be, in fact I think it was the best sleep I had the entire trip. The toilet is somewhat outside. Full privacy is still provided, but on a rainy day was a little rough to use.

- Laura (7/5): - Una calle callada y lindisima. Limpio y buenos tatamis.
- Barbora (4/5): - Close to the bus stop, a shop, and a laundromat. If you want to get a good night’s sleep, do not book this accommodation. The noise can be heard all night until morning—especially from outside, from neighbors, and from a room with sliding doors, which is likely occupied by a local who makes noise all night. The windows let in light throughout the night, so the room looks as if it’s already dawn. Everything comes with an extra charge (towel replacement, luggage storage, plus you have to pay an additional tax).

- Visar (10/5): - C'était une superbe expérience. L'hôtel a répondu à toutes nos attentes.
- Shannon (10/5): - We stayed in the four-bedroom apartment. The location was excellent and the size of the rooms was good. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

- Melissa (8/5): -
- Neville (8/5): - Very Traditional; good location Having to pay to store luggage on check out.

- Russell (4/5): I wouldn't stay here again. - An easy 15-20 minute walk from Kyoto Station. Room was clean. The guy on reception sent us to our room in the annex and we got lost. He should have at least accompanied us to the building. We really didn't feel particularly welcome or that anyone was interested. The desk is closed from 10 pm to 9 am. Even though Japanese style, it would be nice to at least have a stool to sit on and something to block out light overnight. I wouldn't stay here again.
- Ben (7/5): -
- Leonie (5/5): Preis-leistung schlecht.
- Ahmat (10/5): Great stay for family on a budget - The reception staff were excellent - prompt communication via email / Booking.com messages & in person. The family room was lovely - plenty of space, comfy futons & functional bathroom. Bonus to have a kettle, fridge, microwave & sink in the kitchenette! The location was good, located 15mins walk to Kyoto Station ... But closer would have been even better! 😉
- Guest (7/5): -
- Doyle (8/5): Maybe my fault, but wasn’t expecting a mattress on the floor. Room up narrow stairs & no offer to assist my carrying - Location was great! Paper thin walls, so everything could be heard.
- LEE (10/5): -
- Charlotte (10/5): - Pas de rideaux dans la chambre
- Wiktor (8/5): A pleasant stay in traditional style hotel close to the heart of Kyoto - The location was very good, just a walk away from the station. The hotel was traditional style, which we really liked. Although this means that any noise is easily heard, but luckily the other guests were very considerate. The futons were very comfortable and room was quite spacious for two people. It wasn't a big issue but our room was close to another building and the light was shining into our window.
- Jonathan (9/5): Super ! J'y retournerai.
- Ander (6/5): -
- Carlos Vinicius (9/5): -
- Jan (9/5): Pokoj hotelového typu s kuchyní, pračkou a koupelnou. -
- Laura (10/5): Très bon ryokan j’y retournerai. - L’ambiance traditionnelle du Japon.
- . (5/5): -
- davidson (8/5): Excellent traditional Japanese lodging experience - Lovely traditional style accomodation, staff communicative and helpful We tried cooking one day in the kitchen but the pans provided require replacing as they are not in great shape
- Elizabeth Catherine (9/5): -
- tegere (10/5): -
- Diego (8/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): Excellent stay in a convenient neighbourhood - Loved my stay at Roman Kan. Spacious room, comfortable futon, warm, excellent location, really lovely staff (who even took my bags to the stay and upstairs from when I was walking down the street!). I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a ryoken in Kyoto. Nil
- Maria (5/5): Great Ryokan Atmosphere, Terrible Experience with Disruptive Guests - Our stay was decent overall, but a specific incident ruined the experience. We expected the firm bedding common in ryokans, but we did not expect the total lack of noise control. On our second night, we were disturbed by guests several rooms away who were being extremely loud and inappropriate.
Even with earplugs, I was woken up three times between 1:00 AM and 4:00 AM by shouting and other disruptive noises. Both the receptionist and I were ignored when we tried to ask them to be quiet. It wasn't until I had to firmly confront them at the door at 3:00 AM that it finally stopped. The staff's inability to handle this situation was disappointing. A place of rest should never feel this chaotic.
- Diego (7/5): -
- Eliza (9/5): Lovely stay! Would recommend if you want to stay at a Ryokan. - Looked like the photos, was very clean and was walking distance to bus stop and metro. It was around 15-20 minute walk to Kyoto main station. The room was bigger than we thought and was very clean. It was near convenience stores and near a delicious restaurant. The walls were very thin but that was expected and did not bother us at all.
- Claire (8/5): Lovely experience for a night or two! - The check-in process was very informative and we really appreciated the additional information shared with us. The building and the room was beautiful - very traditional which is what we wanted.
The location is very quiet which was lovely! We found the sleeping arrangements uncomfortable and didn’t sleep very well due to the firmness of the floor/beds. I appreciate this was part of the traditional experience but for us it was a bit too uncomfortable for two nights.
- Melgar (10/5): -
- Jeffrey (10/5): Super and great location - Didn’t have breakfast.
- Sean (10/5): - Beautiful traditional hotel No heating in toilet
- Lívia (10/5): -
- Paola (5/5): .
- Sophia (10/5): - Loved the rooms Nothing
- selina (8/5): -
- Chiara (3/5): -
- rahayu (10/5): Gorgeous little retreat - I loved the feel of the traditional Ryokan from the entrance all the way to the futon beds.
The staff was super friendly. We also did the tea ceremony and wore kimonos which they organised for us.
Overall our stay was wonderful and we experienced the simplicity and calmness staying here in Kyoto. Nothing
- Beverly (7/5): - The quietness of the location
- Ricardo (8/5): - All the reception and the personal working there
- Morgan (6/5): Too much light - Great location with a lot of local authenticity to the place Next door lights shone into the room all night so it was like daylight - and no way to block. Didn’t get much sleep- awful situation.
