Its like stepping back in time which ads a charm to it. Overall it was a place to bunk for the night and that's it. So with that, and the overall price, it was perfect for me.

A drawback of being in downtown is the surrounding noise from the streets at night. Breakfast was typical and good. I'd definitely stay there again!

• Verified traveler (8/5): Really ok for a night or 2 - This is a very old hotel. You can see pictures of it back in the day on the walls. Its hard to find and in a very run down building, but its like being in a time warp. The beds were clean and comfortable. It looks dirty because its old, but i wiped at some places and they were clean, just stained over time, like in the bathroom. Check-in was tedious, filling out a paper with your home address and profession, bad exchange rate given and you must pay cash. Charged me $8 to wash a load of laundry and hang it out to dry. Wifi in reception only. This hotel is fine for a night or two passing through, but if you book it gor your whole vacation, you may be unhappy. Its very close to the museum and tahrir square!
• Verified traveler (2/5): Filthy bathroom - Dirtiest toilet I have ever seen in a hotel. Had to clean the toilet before using. Would not use the bathroom here unless I was desperate. Otherwise the hotel seemed okay but the filthy bathroom alone pulled down the grade. The shower was nasty too. ⁷

• Verified traveler (2/5): Terrible place - An trash film. It’s on 7 floor of an old building. Elevator has no door. No one in the reception helps you to get a taxi. No towel for shower just small one for face. No mini bar in the room. No fan. Room completely dirty. The ceiling is falling. Full of flies. Breakfast ridiculous. Not joking: I was afraid the building falls down every night. I prayed a lot. Except for an old gentleman in the reception, all others are rude. See the pictures. Run from here!
• Sarah Jane (10/5): - The hotel has lots of character and has retained its mid-twentieth century charm. The staff were unfailingly helpful and pleasant. Our room was large, comfortable and air conditioned, and the bathroom had been modernised and was good.
• Lutz Andreas (8/5): - Das Hotel liegt in einigen oberen Etagen eines Hochhauses. Es ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen, aber insgesamt in einem recht guten Erhaltungszustand. Lediglich die sanitären Anlagen würden eine Erneuerung brauchen. Allerdings sind sie grundsätzlich funktionstüchtig. Die Betten sind bequem, die Zimmer sind mit modernen Klimaanlagen ausgestattet. Das Personal ist freundlich hilfsbereit. Das Hotel ist günstig in der Innenstadt gelegen, so dass in der Umgebung gute Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und eine Anbindung an den öffentlichen Nahverkehr gegeben sind.

• Philip_H1964 (10/5): Thoroughly recommend staying here! - The Lotus Hotel is an excellent place to stay in downtown Cairo, depending on what you want. If you want to stay in same-same sterile modern international standard accommodation, you wouldn’t choose the Lotus Hotel. If, however, you seek old-world charm (without the fancy makeover that has arguably spoilt so many of the old-world hotels in Egypt), the Lotus is a really great choice. The rooms are simply furnished, very clean, & very adequate. The highlight of the hotel is the staff, who are wonderfully kind, helpful, welcoming, & 100% genuine in their care of their guests. The hotel is in a great downtown location, with plenty of local cafés, bars, restaurants, & shops in easy walking distance. I stayed at the Lotus on 3 occasions during my recent visit to Egypt. It will be my preferred choice on my next visit too.
• andreacA2021RP (10/5): Very Unique Place to Stay in Cairo and Great Location! + Egypt Tour Guide - Mina & Samir Fayek - It's hard to put into words how special my time was Lotus Hotel. As a single and first-time traveler to Cairo, it was the perfect place to stay for a week, and understand what daily life is like. I was able to walk to so many places once I felt confident with the rhythm of the streets (thanks to Samir Fayek). This place has so much character and warmth to share even if it's not a "luxurious" hotel. (Personally, I'm more interested in the depth and a story -- if you're looking for that, you will find it here. ) Ayman, Emad, Abeer, Ibrahim, and Adel (and others that I know I'm forgetting, sorry!) made me feel so welcome and couldn't have been more gracious. On my next trip to Egypt, no matter where I am, I will go out of my way to return to Lotus to say hello to everyone there. Mr. Wafik Doss (owner of the hotel) is a gem and a true professional in the world of hospitality, and I will continue to stay at his hotels in the future when I'm back in Cairo. Mr. Doss kindly introduced me to Mina and Samir Fayek (tour guide experts) that I highly recommend using if you're staying at Lotus or Windor. (They've been working together for ~40 years.) Wafik and the Fayek Tour Guides work from their hearts; I was lucky enough to experience it and will be forever grateful.

• IrenkaF5 (10/5): Ms Farmilo - This was the second time I stayed at the Lotus with family. The hotel has been around some time, having survived the ups and downs of the tourism industry. It offers good value for money and the staff are all very friendly and helpful and speak English - some well. The beds are comfortable and the hotel gives a choice of western or Egyptian breakfast included in the very reasonable rates. I liked the manager very much and found him very helpful during the difficult 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. I almost had to stay on after the Cairo airport closed and would have felt safe there for weeks if that had happened. The hotel is well located too - close to Tahrir Square, the Egyptian Museum and many restaurants and other amenities.
• 741nicholasm (10/5): Very good stay here - I stayed 3 nights at this place. The location is right where you want to be downtown. It's a ten minute walk to the museum and plenty of eating options close by. The hotel is an old time kind of place but I liked it. It had character. The people who worked there also were friendly and and good banter. There is a bar upstairs where you can get a beer and chill out after the sightseeing during the day. If any criticism maybe the breakfasts could be better. However for the price and the quality of the rooms ,mine with a balcony I found the place to my liking. If I ever go back it will be there. Or possibly the Windsor hotel the one I should of been in which is the sister hotel closed for now. Keep up the good work guys. We will return one day !!
• r0me00g (10/5): Very good - I am Indian and I live in France. Egypt is my first trip. The first five days I went to an hotel very touristic. Walking, I found the Lotus Hotel Restaurant. I went for lunch with my wife. The egyptian food was very good. Not expansive and very tasty. We decide to stay in the Hotel then. The bar, restaurant, room, are very good. Welcome and service too. Very good security. For me it's a very good place to stay in Cairo. After my trip in Assouan, Louxor and Alexandria I booked one more time 4 nights in Lotus Hotel Resturant. We were very happy to come back. We eat very good kochery and very good spaghetti. The atmosphere is super !
• Inspire166475 (8/5): Excellent value, great location! - Vintage Cairo, with much of the decor original to the building. Excellent value, great Downtown location. Staff friendly and most helpful. Fun bar (Polo Bar) at night. I spent several nights at the Lotus Hotel, and I recommend it.
• Clydewhi (6/5): Modest Hotel is Authentic, well located, but modest - The hotel has a great location in Downtown Cairo. It dates to 1950 and has had no major renovation since then. For those on a budget and who are familiar with 1 and 2 star hotels, the Lotus is a great choice. This means weak WiFi, iffy plumbing, thin towels, and simple bkfst. It has a fun bar, a restaurant, they'll do laundry, and you can walk to downtown sites. Some devoted foreign guests (it has its fans) but mostly Egyptian. The bar has a hipster on a budget vibe.
• viaggionelcuore (2/5): Disappointed - I had a reservation from 20 till 23 December and another one from 21 till 22 for a friend , and when i arrived to that place after 18 hours traveling coming from Europe the elevator was not working well, the receptionist after seeing my Egyptian passport didn’t chek me in , the reason is that my passport says that i am from Cairo and cairo citizens are not allowed to stay in hotels at Cairo for security reasons i got shocked, i showed him also my italian ID and i am not living in Egypt and I don’t need to hold another passport in my home country but he said no of i have any foreigner passport i can stay , i have the house in Cairo but i had to book in that poor place for work reasons because its close to Tahrir , I cancelled the two reservations and i went to another hotel they welcomed me and they were so kind and polite with me and I appreciate it
• Mhmdnoh (8/5): Good hotel with nice staff - I slept in Lotus hotel for 4 nights, the staff is nice and every thing was good, break fast need to be improved but with budjet prices you cant expect fancy breakfast ... I encouraging every one to sleep their for good location and safety and its budget prices

• 455ruthh (8/5): November Cairo break - We stayed here because the Windsor Hotel was closed. The Lotus is cheaper (£22 a night for a double room with ensuite) and there were no attempts to add extra charges. The interior is clean and the staff friendly. It's not a luxury hotel (but then it is £22 a night!) and might not suit people who want a Hilton or even Premier Inn type experience. All buildings in Cairo look like noone has decorated externally since built, and The Lotus is similar. But I loved it. Book by email (the manager was very receptive to my emails) but the original online booking of the Windsor had not worked. Also, if going in summer, it might be worth checking the aircon does work!
• Giford (8/5): Good budget hotel in city centre - We were diverted here because the sister hotel (The Windsor) is temporarily closed (which it really is - we checked!). Hotel is clean, good WiFi, nice bar (popular with the locals) that sells alcohol, staff are friendly. Airport transfer worked, hot water worked, bed was comfortable. Location is spot on. Décor can't keep up with the luxury hotels and someone's built an office block 5 metres in front of the balconies so don't expect a view, but there is a nice faded ambience. Would recommend.
• Fredysan (10/5): Nice and friendly accommodations - The hotel offers good service and friendly staff. Nice hot water and clean rooms. Abeer and Abeer are very good at the receptions. The bar and restaurant offers good drinks very with friendly young staff. It brings the 50s back to life of the future.
• 190judyo (8/5): Excellent, budget hotel in great downtown Cairo location - My originally booked hotel, the Windsor, and owned by the same family, was pre-paid months before I arrived. However, nearby subway construction undermined its foundations and I was shifted to their sister hotel, the Lotus. This ended up being fortuitous as I met some very warm and welcoming staff and owners. The original owner, Mr. William Doss is currently 105! He is cared for by his family who manage both hotels. Speaking with them was a lesson in modern Egyptian history! Pros: —excellent location, across from Felfela restaurant and takeaway which every local knows. Therefore easy cab or Uber ride. —awesome and welcoming staff who will see to your every request (eg, hot coffee at 0530 before 0600 checkout, extra towels, additional toilet paper or soap, replacement shower curtain). Small nominal tips after these requests will insure that the job gets done and/or future needs are anticipated —secure watchman at entrance at all times. As a single woman traveling solo, I felt very safe. —spotlessly clean but antiquated rooms. Bathroom was older but immaculate, with tub shower. —balcony overlooking the thoroughfare Talaat Harb and rooftop views. Not noisy for me as balcony entry had French glass doors as well as outer louvered wood doors, all of which could be left open if desired. Cons: —not a three or four star hotel. For the excellent prices, you should not expect big fluffy towels, shampoo/conditioner, or bottled water in the room. Bedding was spotless and clean, with firm bed and pillows which I prefer. Lighting fine for bedtime reading. No kettle or refrigerator in room (see note below). —air conditioning and plumbing a bit old but worked. Very hot water available at all times with adequate pressure (my room on floor 8, reception on floor 7, breakfast room on 9, with slow lift to all floors. —breakfast was basic with instant coffee, tea, hot milk/water, bread, butter, and laughing cow cheese. I chose to supplement with yogurt, fruit, and Starbucks instant Via— staff let me use the kitchen for prep and their refrigerator as there was none in room. They could also bring hot drinks to your room with prior night request. —somewhat intimidating entry, through a dimly lit short but large passageway to the security guard and the elevator which you take to reception in the 7th floor. Entry is well-signed and every local knows the Felfela takeaway across the street or sit down restaurant around the corner. Summary—great basic place (clean, secure, centrally and easily located, awesome owners and reception manager Emad) if you want to travel in Cairo on a budget. As anywhere in Egypt, service and attentiveness are insured by nominal tips of 5-20 pounds per task, depending on difficulty encountered. I have absolutely no hesitation in coming back, and know I would be warmly welcomed back in return.
• E9808RHrubenr (10/5): Thanks - I think is a very good place for staying here in egypt because is exactly in the downtown, the old details from the hotel makes you feel in another time. You can found everything you looking for because they have all just next to the hotel. The personal here is very nice and always attentive with the clients, the receptionist “Emad” was very nice with us because he answered all the questions and he gave us the transport tips. In the restaurant we found “ali” who tried to speak Spanish with us. Is a nice guy and I’m so happy here. Very good place in cairo i recommend to you.

• Amal (2/5): Horrible - Airport pick up confirmed but no car arrived. Not informed also. Bathroom tap came in hand. Bathroom basin water logged. Horrible sound while opening tap. Bathroom door can not be closed. Reception prefers to say "sorry" instead of fixing the problems. A/C temperature fluctuates from 12 to 26 deg C. On several followup TV problem fixed.No egg in Breakfast. It is unethical to recommend this hotel by all agents

Overall a terrible experience even I only stayed there at night to sleep. I checked out the day after because it was that horrible. Word of advice: Stay away from this hotel!

• AdelAttalla (2/5): - Sorry, I was the worst experience I had ever went through. Everything is so bad. The floor , the walls, the bathroom. I have pictures for everything. I could not stay more the some hours and left at the first ray of light. I had proof that i stayed only one night and left. I need to get my money back because I did not stay more than 5 hours. i arrived on the 6/7/19 at midnight and left at 06/8/19 in the down. I need to get the money you charged me as i stayed only that time.
• dan_rn (10/5): Super nice hotel and staff! - The hotel is central, and the rooms are nice for that price range! But the best thing are Abeer and Emad working at the reception: they are very friendly and helpful, and the typical funny Egyptians any foreigner would wish to meet! It is a great place for a short visit in Cairo, and my friend and I are very happy about our choice. Next time we go to Egypt, we'll definitely stay at lotus again. Daniela & Liliana

• Oliver_wong_quinnell (10/5): Historical hotel! - A brilliant place to stay. Very comfortable, clean rooms and friendly, helpful staff. Inexpensive and wel-located. I like how this hotel was built in the 1950s and seems largely unchanged. The furniture and the rooms give you a sense of history, another aspect of old Cairo. I would love to return.
• Daisyperkins (10/5): Lotus hotel - a gem of a hotel in downtown Cairo - I highly recommend this place for a great value, friendly, comfortable and hugely interesting stay. It’s a bit of an institution with plenty of fascinating guests coming through. It takes pride in its heritage, has oodles of character, and really beautiful old pieces of furniture and equipment that are being restored. It has the polo bar on top which is a lively place to hang out and experience another side of Egyptian culture. Location is excellent, in the heart of Downtown and within walking distance of so much. Local cafes , restaurants and antique shops to explore. Breakfast is simple and traditional and great to have included at this price. This is a gem of a place! Most of all I want to say a special thank you to the staff here. I arrived on my own and quite ill - the hotel management went out of their way to look after me, organise a doctor and sort out my medicine. I was looked after so kindly and with incredible generosity when I most needed it. I feel hugely indebted to this hotel and the staff. Thank you!

• Verified traveler (2/5): Korkunç bir deneyimdi - Dünyanın birçok ülkesinde birçok otelde kaldım. Bu otel, en korkunç olanıydı. 1950'de yapılan otel o yılda kalmış. Temizlik sıfır, oda asla temizlenmiyor. Odadaki klima 70 yıllık. Kırılmış, çalışmıyor, kimsenin umrunda değil. Banyoda havlu yok. Saç kurutma makinesi istediğimizde olmadığını söylediler. Restoranında kullanılan bardak, kaşık ve tabaklar pislik içinde. Bar katından gelen sesler gece 3 e kadar uyutmadı. Tek olumlu yanı, Tahrir Meydanı'na yakınlığı. Asla bu otelin önünden bile geçmeyin.

• Robert (10/5): - Let me first say that I had no expectations because I was simply in Egypt for the sights and not so much the people or the hospitality. Both Maged and Ahmed, who work the front desk, far exceeded anything I could have imagined. Any question or concern I had was promptly dealt with and answered. I wanted for nothing. For that, both the Lotus Hotel and its staff have my eternal thanks. The rooms are a bit outdated, sure, but that adds to the charm. When I go back to Egypt, which I will, I will definitely be staying at the Lotus. 5/5
• Guillaume (8/5): Vieillot mais sympa - Hôtel qui a du avoir son heure de gloire en 1950, resté inchangé depuis et confit dans son jus... mais très propre, chambres spacieuses, personnel souriant et agréable. Bien sûr tout est un peu défraîchi, les sommiers des lits sont centenaires et la douche donne un filet d'eau - mais on en a pour son argent et même plus pour un hôtel à 20€ en plein centre du Caire. Nous l'avons utilisé pour un "day use" entre deux avions et avons été fort satisfaits.Wifi fonctionnel.
• JACQUELINE (10/5): HOTEL ART DECO AGREABLE - Beaucoup de clients ne réfléchissent point à la problématique du "CAIRE HAUSSMANNIEN". C e sont des immeubles anciens ,et très difficiles à entretenir Toutefois à LOTUS HOTEL je suis à l'aise , avec sont style ART DECO des années 60 .Le nouveau manager est très senssible au bien-être de chacun mais en respectant ce style, et est toujours à la recherche de pièces anciennes telle la cabine téléphonique dans le longe ,et a dynamisé l'hotel avec un bar très actifs attirant de ce fait beaucoup de jeunes dans une ambiance de club La genèse de cet hôtel des années 50/60 est fameuse car il recevait à l'époque bien des personnalités Ne soyons pas seulement des touristes toujours dans une dynamique de critiques, mes soyons attentifs .......

• Sarra’a (8/5): - I stayed 6 nights at lotus hotel, it was a convenient hotel, a the staff were helpful except a woman that was aggressive and I really hated the way she talked with because a misunderstanding that happened to me here, also i think when they knew that I’m arabic tourist not foreign they started to treat me diffrently, i was supposed to stay in a room with private bathroom and shower but accidentally they gave me a room with private bathroom and bathtub so they told me that I had to pay more and in aggressive way but later a gentleman tried to fix the misunderstanding and told me I could stay in this room without paying extra money so he is really a great man i wished I know his name, the room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast included cheese and jam and beans I didn’t like it so much so i ended up having breakfast in another places which were cheap and the food was tasty, over all I enjoyed my staying here and I think I could return again :) And thanks to Mr.gentleman with the loveliest smile :))))

• Xavi (8/5): Old hotel near Tahrir Square - The staff was always friendly and tried to help as much as they could. The hotel is very old and needs renovation but at least you are not required to go through tedious security measures each time you access it.

• Al (8/5): Good overall experience - Not bad at all for a single traveller. If you are looking to impress a partner, this is not the place. If you are looking for a friendly staff, basic accommodation, and place to rest while you go out all day and do stuff, this is the place. Staff friendly and responsive, facilities old but reasonable. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. I would use it again if I was travelling alone, but not with my family.

'Suncream lotion' lol No hot shower / No proper breakfast There are a lot of better places around the area with similar price.^^

• Y (4/5): タフリール広場周辺のホテル - フロントの方の対応は良かったです。シャワーの温水は、最初の１０分程度しか出ません。朝食は、パン２本と豆のスープ、食後にコーヒーかお茶がでます。
