Guest Reviews
- Kimberly (8/5): Sweet spot - Hard to find and remote from food services after late arrival to Liberia. But host Dwight accommodating. We slept well. Best thing was the lovely garden grounds.
- Jim (10/5): - Good value. Property is older, but clean and well maintained. Convenient to the airport.
- Ernest (10/5): - The place was good value for the money spent. The manager was very personable and helpful with everything we needed
- duane (8/5): - Friendly owner(s), Good value, clean rooms, easy to find and easy commute to airport and good restaurants in Liberia. I wish pool was heated, but nice for the price.
- Rebecca (4/5): - Rodent poop and cockroaches on beds and floors. Changed rooms quickly. Pool unkept- dirty and no chlorine- dogs drinking from it. Shared kitchen not clean. Access from hwy is very difficult and unsafe. Host is very kind and we loved his dogs.
- Name (10/5): - We were greeted by the property owner carrying an umbrella to our car because of a torrential downpour. He walked us to the room, showed us how to work all the amenities, and then took us to the community kitchen to show us around there. The owner/manager is very friendly and helpful and made us feel completely at ease. His efforts felt super helpful after a long night and nearly full day of travel. 10/10 would easily stay again.
- Climaco (8/5): - Near the city
- Muhammad (10/5): - Great place. Dwight was amazing
- Carol (8/5): - Very helpful owner / manager and helped with transportation and dining recommendations. Right off the main road so a bit noisy from traffic, but also felt safe out of town. Bit of a drive to get downtown, but easy with Uber and inexpensive. Room was minimal but clean and had air conditioning.
- Pierre (6/5): - Everything but location. Too noisy because of highway
- daniel (10/5): Best way to crash before a flight - Thank you Dwight for your hospitality. It’s a perfect place and I will highly recommend this location to my corporate colleagues. As for guest if you need a place to stay quite and close tot the airport not in the unsafe city center this is the place 👍
- Andrew (10/5): - The hotel operators were extremely helpful. Really nice people
- Verified traveler (6/5): Isolated, budget hotel - Good for the price, and there is usually someone around. They are friendly and try to be helpful. However, there is no coffee, no other services nearby, 3 kms to Liberia for food. There is a pool and nice landscaping. Best for a transition stop between other places, right by the highway.
- Steve (10/5): - It was very impersonal the owner and the staff were always available to help in any way they could. The place was clean and well maintained. I would stay there again if it was geographically suitable.
- elzbieta (10/5): - Perfect for one night on the way to La Fortuna
- Nashat (8/5): Gracious host - The owner was so friendly and very helpful. Enjoyed our stay. We were leaving at 5:00AM, and he got up to make us coffee and when told that we need to be on the road and if he has to go cups he offered his mugs for us to take.
- Michelle (10/5): Nice place - Nice place, booked at last minute so the room wasn’t freshly cleaned. Dead bugs all over the bathroom and entry floor.
- Zsuzsanna (10/5): Good hotel - Great hotel to stay at. Along the freeway but quiet in the room. Room was huge, comfortable and clean. On site free covered parking. Staff friendly and helpful
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Quaint place
- Daniel (8/5): - Just stayed one night before catching a flight. The owner took us downtown to do some last minute shopping and drop us off at a pub so we could meet up with friends. We bought him a drink. He didn’t charge anything for the ride. The next morning he arranged our ride to the airport. The WiFi was a little weak but the rest of the service and amenities were fantastic.
- CARLOS (10/5): - Quiet, great customer service, very good facilities, free parking
- Douglas (8/5): - Nice place. Clean, and very friendly. Good parking space and centrally located.
To negatives: bad wifi and no coffee in the mornings.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved the variety of fruit trees and flowers. The owners were super welcoming. Did not like that we had to drive out of town and make a U-turn and double back to get to the hotel. One of the few hotels that allowed our dog.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel was very nice. The staff was very friendly. The only issue I had was you had to drive 15 to 20 minutes for food. I would recommend they provide some type food or snacks you can buy
- Cheryl (6/5): - A/C was old and took a long time to cool the room. The pool was green with algae. Internet was spotty. Sign is faded, we passed and had to go back 3 miles to turn around.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - La atención y servicio por parte del dueño fue excelente, nos encantó el lugar y sin duda alguna volveremos a ir.
- Craig (10/5): Nice little stopover - Great stopover for a hot shower and comfortable accommodations for a late arrival or early departure. Very clean and convenient!!!e sure to call ahead for shuttle service prior to arrival. On another note, I found Uber to be just as convenient and a little cheaper!
- Mike (10/5): - Our stay was great. The owner and his son were both very helpful and went out of their way for us. The hotel was very very clean.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Everything was clean and a/c and TV worked fine, however owner lady said I couldn’t leave my small dog in the room when I went out for an appointment. If I’d have known that I wouldn’t have booked the room there.
- Michael (10/5): Convenient and priced right. Nice pool! - Rafael, the owner, is super nice and helpful. Definitely recommend this hotel. And the pool was wonderful! The bathroom sink faucet in room 12 was trickling a bit. But I believe it just needs a new washer (or removing the one there now.) The wifi is not strong in the room but is available on the property.
- Betsy (8/5): - The owners were amazing...charming and would go out of their way to be helpful. Rooms and property a bit on older side but clean and serviceable.
- Sharyn (6/5): Keeping it simple - Everything worked.Room although old was fresh.Bathroom ceiling needed repair.Shuttle service to airport is a friend of the manager, who was polite.CNN in english.Would have been nice to have morning coffee option.
- Suzi (8/5): - The price was right for a one night stay after a long day of travel and the owner was extremely friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Driving south through Liberia, watch for the quiet signage in front of the hotel on OPPOSITE side of highway. Continue close to a mile in order to make the u-turn to go back north to La Arena. Watch VERY carefully for the one, steep driveway the fabulous highway department left them as an entrance. (They are suing.) But Arena is worth it, especially if you like to swim! Family-built & operated.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very layed back and friendly. It was a perfect place to overnight.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - For an overnight stay, this place is decent. The people were friendly and helpful. Only real criticism, they advertise the pool, but it is poorly maintained. At the price, we were not expecting any luxuries, but when I read that the pool existed, we thought that we might use it. I suggest deleting any reference to the pool until the maintenance improves.
- Naomi (10/5): A great affordable stay! - We love Dwight, the owner. He made our stay comfortable, friendly and like a home away from home. His English and Spanish are impeccable. We enjoyed our first visit so much we booked another stay. Overall a great experience for a very fair price.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Fair to ok - This was a stay for one night after arriving in on a late flight. The room was reasonably clean but the shower backed up quickly and the pool in the hotel's pictures was tiny and green with algae. Ok for a quick, inexpensive over night stay but nothing special.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The only thing not up to par was the wifi and breakfast.
- Terry (8/5): Hotel quick stop - The hotel was a cheap and convenient stop close to Liberia's airport on the way to Monteverde. It was well priced for the level of amenities. The owner was very welcoming and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Friendly,accomodating staff.
- robbyp (6/5): Great welcome - La Arena is a very well presented, clean and tidy motel. Host Dwight super friendly and helpful.
Room clean with A/C and comfy bed.
Secure UNDER COVER parking😊😊😊
A couple of downers:
Some noise from the highway.
Woken at 4am with a yapping dog.
Difficult to fully darken our room...not a concern for everybody of course.
- Christine (8/5): Nice Sheets & Peasant Inn Keeper - For the price this was OK. + were sateen sheets and pretty fluffy towels + teeny bird aviary- were road traffic noisy and no food except take out of Chinese or pizza
- Jason (10/5): Owner was fantastic and very helpful. The grounds - I liked it a lot. Staff very helpful, room very clean with air conditioning and very spacious. Not too far from downtown Liberia either. I wouldn't hesitate to return.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Mean owners, nice hotel - The hotel was nice and clean and the pool was decent. The owners however were either bipolar or just don't care at all about customer service. Online their listing says the hotel is pet friendly. When I arrived the owners began yelling at me for having a pet and she's fed up with pets so we should find somewhere else to go. Well if there hotel wasn't in the middle of nowhere, we would've! Then they wouldn't let us use their phone and were plain mean.
- Kenneth (8/5): Good Owners, Good Airport Layover - The Duartes are great hosts. Dwight shuttled us from the airport for $25. There were some cobwebs up high and a loose electrical outlet. The price was right though. Nice aviary on the grounds.
- Lucas (8/5): Nice hotel close to a lot of parks - Nice hotel close to the city of Liberia (5 min drive) and the "Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport" (15 min). The hotel is close to a lot of interesting parks which make the stay very adventurous.
The hotel has a shelter for the car which is perfect when the temperature is high. The car won't be transformed into an oven.
The rooms are big and spacious. The beds and sheets are clean. The staffs, specially the owners, are very friendly.
But I did not like 3 things :
- internet was very slow. I could not do anything.
- the hotel is located in the highway. So you are driving in a highway speed and you have to break in 10 or 20 km/h to enter the hotel.
- the room I had did not have a lot of light.
- Curtis (8/5): - Very quaint little hotel where the people make you feel right at home wonderful atmosphere
- Pierre (10/5): - Very nice stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Arrived late and needed food. Helpful staff arranged food to be delivered!
